No Reason To Fight

Lacrima finds Riventon draining some poor soul, and starts to wonder if she hasn't found a kindred spirit.

Dusk is just now falling over the southern part of Pikarigaoka. While Riventon is out on Eclipse's orders searching for the missing Compendium of Infinite Worlds, he's also out for his own purposes. And, frankly, there's always a use for more energy.

And, particularly, when that energy can maybe be gotten without needing to promptly be spent shooting heroes in the face. The secret to success is suplementing big, attention drawing plans with smaller plans.

Smaller plans, like wrapping a hand around some poor guy in an alley who was just out for a walk to think about his problems, lifting him up, and starting to pull his energy out of him.

"It's all just a nightmare, kid. Close your eyes and you'll wake up later. I'm not even after your money." he chides, the hand around his throat cutting off any chance for screams that might draw unwarranted magical attention. While this sort've thing always made him feel like a common mugger, it was a bit of a necessary evil.

Norie Okana was mostly still 'okay' energy wise. She wasn't feeling 'hungry', she had most of her coherency. This is about as 'good' as it got for her right now--- so thusly, she decided to go out and treat herself to something-- because she suddenly had a craving for a cinnamon roll. She enjoyed it. Not as much as she used to-- something. Felt off.. whenever she expected to feel a certain way- it felt weird.

She's walking by that alley on her way home, minding her own bussiness, arms crossed across her chest guardinly when she felt--- something. Something dark. She blinked slowly. She could hear nothing from this side of the alley on the street, so she ducked into the alleyway. She creeps up beside a dumpster and peeks from just the side of it---

There's a man, holding another man, and draining his energy. Noire's eyes went a little wide. Her manner of thought is... 'Other people drain energy!?' then '...is a vampire too?' then '...what do I do?'

Probably drop the disguise because this hinders our abilities when he decides to come to us next.. Ugh-- she let herself get perperturbed. So of course. That voice was there. She wanted to yell and scream at it internally... and externally- but she understand the inherent undertone of what that internal voice meant. She /needed/ her energy and she couldn't let someone else just come up and take it from her, right!?

So she closes her eyes--- thinks a moment-- her eyes shift-- her hair grows a little longer- and both get nice and deep purple in color. Those clothes of hers shift into a more elaborate corset-like top with parted skirt and black body suit-- and oddly white heels.

She watched with a bated breath. Of course, that shift would be very obviously felt. Not that she'd know-- as she resumed to keep watching quietly from just behind the dumpster.

It's the dropping of the disguise - the change in her energy - that gets Riventon's attention. He turns slowly to her as he lets the now unconscious teenager slump to the ground. He's not looking for a fight, and the way she 'feels' - the way that release of energy seemed to be - he's not entirely sure the presence near him is anything more than a youma. Or it might be a leftover from the Dark Kingdom, or any sort of Dusk Zone denzien. But he's not entirely sure that she's a threat. Or that she's not.

And, frankly, today he's not out for a fight. Still looking for the book, and trying to get his own reserves together, it'd be good if he could get out without a waste of strength. His booted heels click together as he finishes that turn.

"This one was mine and he's already out of energy. You'd just be picking at bones, whatever you are." he says to the presence behind the dumpster. "So there's nothing really worth fighting over here." he adds, complete with a noncomittal shrug. "Let's not make a big deal out of this."
Lacrima 2016-03-23 00:11:23 35357
Whatever you are.

That makes her twitch for some reason--- just a moment. She didn't like hearing that. Is she.. a what now? Does she talk? Does she just keep quiet and not act.

She can just shift away if she's in danger, right?

At least the voice isn't peanut gallerying right now. She takes a sharp breath.

"I--I don't need energy right now." she says out.

"Are you a vampire too? Whatever you did felt a little like what I do. I was just walking home... when I felt that..."

This most certainly doesn't sound like some sort of youma, more like a little girl.

"I'm over here...um. I'm.. coming out." she says. She carefully slips out from behind the dumpster. Not quite shy in her demeanor. Maybe uncertain and cautious.

"I'm...." she has to fight a little to say it, because she doesn't want to.. "Lacrima."
Takashi Agera 2016-03-23 00:14:38 35358
Riventon's eyebrows shoot up a little bit at seeing the girl come out, but he doesn't make a huge deal out of it verbally. "Not what I was expecting, with the kind of energy I was picking up." he says, still stepping back and leaving just a bit more distance between the two of them.

"I'm... no, I'm not a vampire." he says, shaking his head. "I need this energy more than he does, though." Riventon adds, derisively indicating the crumpled heap of human on the floor next to him. "He wasn't using it for anything important, anyways."

"I'm Riventon." he says, not entirely relaxing, but he's moved out of anything akin to a combat stance now. "Do you work for Eclipse, Miss Lacrima?" he asks, bluntly. It's not like they have a super-secret handshake (or if they do, it's not like the magical types use it.) "Or anyone else?"
Lacrima 2016-03-23 00:30:41 35362
Lacrima blinks. "What were you... expecting then?" she asks curiously. She doesn't seem to quite catch on to that. She head tilts. Not a vampire? Then why take the energy? What use is it? Should she ask? Is it important to know?

"I don't work for anyone..."

A pause.

"I haven't been doing this very long..."

"I've just been um... draining people. To survive. And try to continue being normal."

"..so I guess just myself.."

Then another pause. "Do you get attacked too?"

The girl just seems to be a font of questions it seems! "I got attacked the other day. One of them hurt a lot. Felt really terrible."
Takashi Agera 2016-03-23 00:45:27 35369
Riventon shrugs. It's a reasonable question. "Not sure. It's not everyday another dark energy wielder sneaks up on me like you did." he says, honestly. "But I was kinda expecting a youma, or an enemy. You don't seem to be either."

"Oh, to survive?" he asks. It's not unheard of - a lot of youma don't do well if they don't get energy, after all.

"Well, you should be careful." he says when she mentions not doing it much - and then she explains about the attacks, and he nods. "Yeah, I get attacked a fair bit."

"That's why I wear this armor." While the lab coat he's wearing doesn't look like armor, magically inclined people can tell the strength of the barrier jacket-lab-coat.

"Anytime they catch me taking energy. They think they have the right to tell me how to live my life." he says, with a sneer. "Or that they know why I do what I do. Ingrates."
Lacrima 2016-03-23 01:00:09 35375
Lacrima listens and stands there. Her hands are clasped in front of her, kept where they can be seen, but she seems sort of nervous, careful. "Yeah... I need it--or..." she says. "I don't know what happens, because everytime I've tried to 'starve' myself I just go into some sort of frenzy and I don't quite... remember...?"

She just shakes her head and takes a few steps forward.

"...That boy I met.. he was one some sort of hoverboard. He said things like that too-- I guess-- I guess I can get why he was upset. I don't like hurting people either."

"But I can't just walk up to people and ask to... feed from them." she says frustratedly. "He said that-- like--like it was so easy...!" her voice picks up a bit-- as if she was getting upset or angry. "To just do that...! What's worse is-- the person he was upset about me draining... said I could drain her! And he didn't care!" she says.

"It's like they want to help but they don't actually want to and it's stupid." she says crossing her arms.

She blinks. "I think you're the first one that hasn't attacked me yet.. because of the way I look or-- 'feel'. 'I feel wrong'. I don't really know what that means but I feel wrong all the time nowadays I guess..."
Takashi Agera 2016-03-23 01:09:30 35383
Riventon nods a bit. "Sounds like it's better for everyone if you keep yourself topped up on energy, then." he muses. "Not the first time I've heard of someone going feral from a lack of energy." he adds.

"I think I know the boy. You know, though... you're wrong. You can just feed from them. You have a power they don't have. I'm sure if you worked at it, you could unlock even more. That's how things work. You don't see people mourning the wheat used in their bread. And... people get energy back. There's nothing really wrong with repurposing it temporarily."

"Not, anyways, as long as you have a good reason. And it seems like you do... so I wouldn't listen to them. You don't feel wrong, Lacrima. You feel powerful. And that's what scares people."
Lacrima 2016-03-23 01:22:40 35392
Lacrima is conflicted as she listens to Riventon...

Part of the argument is one she already uses to justify her actions to herself and others-- she needs energy to live. She doesn't kill the people. They go to sleep for a few good hours. They wake up groggy. She's not.. /actually/ hurting people then, right? That's what she's told herself the past months.

It lets her rest at night.

The part about power thought.. feels a lot like the dreams she has. That's not her. It's not what she wishes she was.

"..Powerful? I'm not so sure about that." she says honestly.

"I..I wasn't always like this. Something happened to me. I don't really know what or why. Just it had something to do with my necklace---"

"... you sound a lot like the voice in my head..." she says. "I'm not crazy...!" she insists. "It's-- not a person or anything.. it's... me but not..? I don't know..." she says looking down.

"It says I should do what I want. That I should stop trying to be myself.. and just be Lacrima because it's a drain on my energy...."

"B--but that's not me-- me is..! Myself! Nrg--I mean.. Not this---the..."

She seems to be confusing herself or perturbing herself or maybe a mix of both.
Takashi Agera 2016-03-23 01:39:26 35401
Riventon smiles. "I'm sure you are. Or at least, you could be, if you stopped worrying so much about what other people think of you." he says, quietly.

"Well, you should be grateful you got such a gift. Otherwise you might just be one of so many wandering in the world with no idea of all the magic, all the power, that surrounds them every day. Like robots in a haze while the real world, the magical world, bursts into being all around them." he says with a dramatic arm motion.

"You're probably not crazy, just home to a second spirit." he says, as though it's the most natural, normal thing in the world. "It's probably got your best interests in mind - no reason for it to hurt you if it needs you." he muses.

"It seems like you're in denial about what you are. Self doubt, self-hate... it's bad for you. Psychologically, I mean."
Lacrima 2016-03-24 04:17:21 35564
Lacrima listens... in her own confused state for a moment as she listens. "I--I'm not sure if I 'care' what people think about me... I don't feel a lot of things I think I should but---"

"That boy-- asked me why I wasn't using my powers for 'good' and-- I didn't really know how to respond." she admits.

She listens... "I'm not sure if it's a spirit. I just know that---that.."

"It's saying stuff you're saying..." she looks down. Can--that can't actually... be a coincidence can it? It frightens her. It frightens her because she doesn't actually want it to be true- and it shows on her face as she wraps her arms a little around herself.

"That if I just--- 'gave in' I wouldn't get confused and think clearer." she mutters silently. She has no partiuclar understanding on why she's telling Riventon this.

Then she realizes this is kind of the first time she's actually been able to talk about this to well, /anyone/ that also wasn't screaming at her at her to stop.

"S-sorry I bet you find this not very intresting..."

"How--are you the way you are?" she asks. "I mean.. you-- feel like when I do things. It's why I peeked in."
Takashi Agera 2016-03-24 04:30:51 35568
Riventon leans in a bit, less defensive now. "Well, look. You have a gift. Something most people don't. I'm not sure what happened to give it to you, but I understand feeling conflicted about it sometimes." he says, a rare moment of honesty in this henshin. "But you have to understand, Lacrima, that your power is not a curse."

"It elevates you, it makes you stronger than those around you. You just have to let it. It's up to you if you want to hide on the outskirts, or take hold of your strength, accept it, and become what you should be."

"The way you were talking about it... it sounds like you're ashamed of it. Like you think the people harassing you are correct."

"I was born like this." he says, quietly. "I have reasons for not going into more detail, but I know what it's like to be on the edge."
Lacrima 2016-03-24 04:58:33 35582
Lacrima thinks about this. She sort of bites her teeth a bit in exasperation. Not at Riventon, but at the predicament and these words as she sort of looks down. "I-- maybe I am..." she looks down. "I hurt plenty of my friends... trying to see how long I could go without-- hurting others. My first 'victim' was my brother who... is avoiding me now.. I think he remembers... but he doesn't? -- my parents are running ragged trying to--- 'find out what's wrong with me'. I see this therapist once a week even though I know he can't help me because that isn't the problem." she says.

"But maybe I'm not... because.. I still go out every other night and hurt people."

She looks back up. "You were born like this?" she nods a bit. "Okay." she says. More an affirmative that she understands why he's not going into detail.

"...You know.. you're the first to actually...." she pauses. "Talk...?" she says. "To me."

"...I'm scared." she finally admits.

"...because you /are/ saying the same things that voice is to me. I don't want to.. be this. I just. Want to just be Norie again--and--and see people again and-- dance..." she mutters.

"...Even... if... I do give in. What about Norie? Does she just dissapear...? What about my parents and my brother? Will they even care? I don't even know anymore. I feel like I used to. But everything is fogged."

She sort of falls a bit limp. "What would I do? Where would I even go?"

"I think I'm going in circles a little..."

"Just a stupid cat chasing it's tail. I've thought this over so many times before. But in my head. Never out loud..."

"You make it seem like it's stupid to not give in..."
Takashi Agera 2016-03-24 05:37:11 35602
Riventon shakes his head. "Look, you keep saying it like you're giving up. It's everyone else who wants you to give up. Give up on your gifts. Give up on who you are. You said you needed to steal energy to survive, right? They're literally asking you to lie down and die. For what? For people who can't handle their own problems?"

"You can still be Norie, you can just... accept that Lacrima is part of Norie." he says, quietly. "You don't have to choose one or the other. I refused to."

"What's causing you to hurt people is listening to those around you who'd tell you to deny your nature." Riventon says, firmly. "You're trying to minimize the damage, so you don't turn into a monster. It's only because they interfere that problems arise. If they'd just let you do what you need to... less people would be hurt."

"It's just the weak trying to impose rules on a strength they don't understand. If you need someone to watch over you, you could join Eclipse. They understand people like us. And our strength."
Lacrima 2016-03-24 05:48:56 35607
Lacrima looks down, she thinks about this, for a long few moment's she's quiet...

It's true, everytime--she's been 'caught' thus far-- people cry out, tell her to stop-- despite relating that she does this to survive. Then tell her things like... to ask. Like it's so easy. Like anyone has a reason to say 'yes'. Like she can just walk up to random people on the street...

"..It gets harder to keep up the apperance." she quietly admits. She doesn't use the term 'Disguise' She isn't a disguise, she refuses to use this word.

"I--I need to think more on this." she quietly admits.

She just stands there quietly. Like she doesn't know how to end an awkward conversation.

Like she stinks at it.

Then she finally talks. "Um--thank you. For talking to me. I do mean that. Um..."

Another one of those awkward pauses.

"Do you have a way... to contact you..or anyone...if..if I have questions..or anything like that?..."

"Sorry if this is a bother. I know you were out--- doing... that." she motions to the still unconcious boy.
Takashi Agera 2016-03-24 06:04:40 35612
Riventon shakes his head. "Don't worry about it. You seem confused. I'm happy to shine some light on the situation." he says, calmly. He reaches into his barrier labcoat and pulls out a small black card. It's nothing more than a stylized golden eclipse on the black card, and a phone number that seems to be in a very unusual fashion.

"You can call that from any phone in Tokyo and it'll get to me. Trust me, the number works." he says with a smile.

"And if you decide to stop letting all of these weaker people push you around, I'm sure I can provide a place to stay, a salary, comeraderie." he adds, looking clearly at her. "Instead of creeping around in the shadows for energy, you can live the life you deserve. With people who understand your gift."

"Remember - it's okay to be both parts of yourself. Don't sacrifice either one for the other. I do it, so you can too."
Lacrima 2016-03-24 06:18:42 35617
Lacrima softly takes the card and looks at it with a blink. "Okay." she says. She looks over herself and realizes she doesn't have pockets on this thing. She scrunches her nose at this almost comically as she chooses to hold onto the card for now.

A place to stay and comeraderie? Are there really others like her? With the same powers? Riventon seems close. Doesn't he?...

She nods. "I don't know if you'll hear from me or not. I have a lot to think about. I-- things are..."

"Things are different for me Riventon. It gets--harder and harder. To remain 'normal'. Sometimes... I.. I drift off and don't even hear my own name. M--maybe we can talk .. later? About how you do it?--I.."

"It's very uncomfortable for me to talk about it-- so I'm sure you'd be hesitant. I guess."

"I should.. get going then." she moves to turn around. She's already said thanks so she begins to leave----then she turns the corner. Unless Riventon stops her, she shifts back to Norie-- concentrating a little and takes back down the road.
