Care and Feeding of Cardcaptors

Post-Harvest, Mamoru heals an unconscious Sakura, and discusses with Kunzite and Zoisite who the girl is and how he knows her.

Somewhere, Tomoyo is probably panicking.

That place is not here. Kunzite and Sakura never actually reached the ground; he received orders ahead of that, after all (though Mamoru would probably protest that they weren't orders, per se). So the bubble of shadow containing them drifted to a nearby rooftop and dissipated for just long enough for Kunzite to crouch and secure the wand as well as the unconscious girl. (He did not try to touch it. He settled her hand on it.)

Then a column of darkness took both of them.

By the time Tuxedo Kamen reaches the apartment, the lights are on in one of the guest rooms, and Sakura is settled on the bed there with her shoes neatly on the floor beside it. Kunzite, still in uniform, is leaning against the wall by the door, undoubtedly mentally composing either a report to Virtue or a note to write for the girl when she wakes up. Or something.

And then there he is, not back in civvies just in case she wakes up -- for a magical girl in Tokyo, waking up in a strange place with a strange civilian and a scary cape guy is probably more worrisome than waking up in a strange place with pretty obviously Tuxedo Kamen and a scary cape guy, who in context isn't necessarily as scary. So, the mask remains.

And the little girl's still out. Mamoru frowns a little as he comes in and sees that, but he does slow his steps long enough to lean over and up a little and kiss Kunzite's cheek.

The masked prince is carting the first aid kit (again for appearances, more or less -- identifiable things for identifiable purposes matching probable aches), but it gets put down on the nightstand next to the bed, right in sight of her, open. "What kind of energy did she get hit with? Was it energy? I didn't see at all, I was putting someone..." he trails off, and it's because he's got a bare hand on Sakura's forehead, and he can listen and search at the same time, but talking and searching at the same time is a little too complicated.

That kiss to Kunzite's cheek is met with fingertips tracing the far side of Mamoru's jaw -- light contact, but still contact redoubled, and the silent confirmation that he is, in fact, just fine. One fewer thing for Tuxedo Kamen to worry about; he has enough right now already.

"Perry turned half of her Device temporarily into a self-guided energy beam," Kunzite replies. "The impact sent the girl into a wall; I'm not certain which hit knocked her out." He considers for a moment before adding, "She used a related but lower-power version to attack several of us simultaneously, at Seiyou. And a much lower-power version to make herself an exit route. The Device did form itself back into matter again; it isn't still resident."

Because exactly what Mamoru needs right now is the mental image of one of Madison Perry's knives waiting to pop back into existence inside someone.

Thankfully, Mamoru doesn't know quite enough about Devices to be able to figure out that that's even possibly a thing. He gets down on one knee next to the bed, hand on Sakura's forehead already starting to glow. "Well, at least the whack against the wall's easy enough to fix," he murmurs. "She's already healing herself from the energy damage; I guess whatever her power is prioritized it. I'm just going to help it a little." He's silent for a second, eyes closing to cut down on extraneous input.

After that, the glow brightens for a moment then dims, and it's clear he's just feeding her energy. He glances over his shoulder. "This is Sakura, she's a Cardcaptor. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I've met her before. Haven't seen her in... I haven't seen her since Scorn turned into Cure Gull, wow." Then his hand slips away, and Mamoru sits back on his heels. "Either way, if you post to Virtue that we've collected her and she didn't have a tag that said 'if found, return to so-and-so' I'm sure someone will show up."

"A Cardcaptor," Knzite repeats. Someone Mamoru last knew was active in Tokyo ... before Kunzite started being. That might explain the next thing he says: "Not something I've heard of, either." Maybe her powers are gambling-based, and that's why she had trouble sustaining her flight? ... probably better not to try speculating. "I'll leave something in case she wakes up first, too, as usual."

He does not go to collect that something. He paces forward a couple of steps, instead, and sets a hand on Mamoru's shoulder.
Zoisite 2016-12-03 06:14:44 62339
There's a sound of voices and presence, something that gets Zoisite's attention. He walks into the room, green eyes narrowed as he takes in the scene. He purses his lips vaguely, blinking briefly out of existence and walking back with a jug of water and a few stacked cups. He sets the water jug on the nearest horizontal surface, sitting near Mamoru and shooting a brief, concerned look between Mamoru and the small girl on the bed, one eyebrow raised in an unspoken question. Who is this?

"Yeah," Tuxedo Kamen agrees, because there really isn't anything else to say. He contemplates the little girl as Kunzite comes over, but his train of thought's broken twice in quick succession. He looks up at Kunzite at the hand on his shoulder, and the smile's only hit his eyes when the door opens and Zoisite frowns and vanishes. He blinks and reaches to take Kunzite's arm for a hand up, and Zoisite's back, with water.

Mamoru blinks again, sort of frozen to the spot, and then he lowers his arm, hand brushing over Kunzite's in mild, unworried reassurance, and watches Zoi put things down and then sit and look expectant. Then he laughs, stifling it to keep from waking the girl up, and he shakes his head. "Magical girl who got hurt-- knocked out-- fighting Madison Perry. I haven't seen her in over a year. She'll be okay, we just have to make sure her people know where she is. And make sure she doesn't freak out when she wakes up. Her name's Sakura, she's a Cardcaptor."

A beat.

"Neither of us has any idea what that is."
Kazuo Takeba 2016-12-03 06:43:38 62341
The hand up is given, automatic and unthought; Kunzite's conscious attention is on finding Zoisite's second entry, and nodding wordlessly to the water-bringing. He lets Mamoru do the lion's share of the explaining, adding at the end only, "Don't ask me. All I did was catch her."

He catches Zoi after a fashion, too, hand resting lightly on his arm for a moment or two. A different kind of silent reassurance: the unspoken statement that neither he nor Mamoru were injured in whatever happened. Or there wouldn't have been time for that moment or two, not yet.
Zoisite 2016-12-03 06:53:48 62342
Zoisite nods at the hand on his arm, inclining his head with a small smile. He snorts softly at Mamoru's statement at what the girl is, shrugging and making a mental note to start investigating what the heck a 'cardcaptor' is. He huffs a soft breath out, raising an eyebrow and pulling his phone out. What are we doing with her? Watching her until she wakes up? Instead of sending the message, he shows it to Mamoru and Kunzite.
Kazuo Takeba 2016-12-03 07:11:16 62343
"More or less," Kunzite answers. "Now that she's less likely to be heavily concussed. Which leaves the problem of reassuring her on waking that she hasn't been kidnapped. Sugar will probably help, and I'll leave her a note, but -- given her age, we should expect anything up to and including panic, anyhow. The last she'll remember, she was ten stories up and in a good deal of pain."
