Unmei Tama was sitting in the diner, an empty plate pushed ahead of her, as well as a milkshake cup, a pie plate and a sundae cup. It was pretty obvious she was pity partying, fairly hard. Her arms were crossed over the table and her head was laying on it.
Since Kukai had seen her last, she'd improved dramatically. Her makeup was done well, her hair was a lot less... wild. It had been dyed blue. Her clothes actually fit and she had this weird kind of... punk rocker look going on, tight pants, black tank top, furred coat.
But she looked absolutely miserable. In fact, she had some pie around her lips and looked like she'd been crying, her eyes a bit puffy. She was also missing her hair pin today.
The coffee cafe on the north side of KPP had always been one of Kukai's favorite places in Tokyo, and only in part for the extra-strong coffee. The other part was the litany of memories he'd made with Nagihiko here - dates, break ups, make ups, all sorts of things. But still, he wouldn't come back on his own if it wasn't for the tasty coffee and the excellent pies and pastries.
So today, Kukai enters the cafe and heads to the counter, ordering a small cup of house blend and a tiger tail pastry. Waiting for his coffee, he looks around at the tables. Most of them are empty, with a few random people... but only one table is filled with half-empty plates in front of it, and a milkshake cup? And behind it all is that girl, the sort-of frizzy looking one that was playing in the arcade the other day. Huh.
Kukai picks up his coffee and pastry and walks over towards the table, stopping nearby. "Hey... mind if I sit here with you? You look kinda like you need some company."
Unmei Tama blinked and glanced up with bleary eyes. "Huh? Oh! Ummm... um ummm..." She wiped her face and then blinked. "Oh, what's the point... I look awful anyway," she grumbled softly, collapsing back on the table with a sigh. "Hi... Kukai, right? What... ummmm... brings you here today?" she asked.
Then glanced to the chara. Did he know? Did they all know? Were they all plotting against her? Was this a trap? Was he going to soccer ball her in the face in a few seconds? They were the good guys, right? That meant no just... stabbing her, right? .... right?
Daichi, for his part, is slowly carrying over a large hunk of what appears to be a fudge brownie, landing on Kukai's shoulder and practically burying his face into it, only sparing a grin and a glance at Unmei. If he knows something he isn't saying it. Kukai then grins slightly and sits down, nodding. "Yeah. And you're Unmei, right? You.. well, no you don't look great but you look kinda like you've been crying." He eyes the line of plates around her. "Well, I know this place and I like it, so I come back around from time to time."
He sets his coffee cup down and reaches over the table to pat Unmei's hand. "Look. Whatever's going on in your life, you have to understand that crying and moping over it will only get you so far. Once you've had a good cry, you have to wipe your eyes, stand up, and get back to the fight. You can't stop feeling upset, but the days are gonna keep coming." He leans in a little. "Do you wanna talk about whatever's wrong?" If he knows, he's doing a fantastic job about not showing it. Or he's oblivious as usual.
Unmei Tama looked up for a few moments, before nodding. "Y-yeah. I'm..." She sighed, scratching her hair. "But... but I look better than I did, don't I? I mean, it's all thanks to her. She... she took me out and everything. Said I was pretty and nice a-and she liked me and..." She sniffled and wiped her eyes. "Even though I'm weird. She's even an upperclassman! I mean, isn't that taboo?" Then she gave another sigh. "She even said we could date multiple people so I could try all kinds of different things and she would too and she was so much prettier than me and hers was normal and wasn't fake like mine..."
She sighed and laid her head down and... "You're magic too, aren't you? Can... can a person who's bad... date someone who's... not... bad? Who's a good person? I mean, I-I'm not hurting anyone. Much. A-and I'm not evil. I just.... I don't... have much choice and I... I don't want to go back to being alone because she's awesome..."
Kukai smiles and listens attentively, letting Unmei talk and get it out of her system. She was taken out by somebody? Oh, on a date. Apparently? And she thought Unmei was pretty and nice? Sure, ok. The weird bit goes right over Kukai's head and he waves a hand. "Everybody's weird, don't get hung up on that." He continues listening, then shrugs. "Well I mean as long as she's not like 3 or 4 years older. That might be kinda weird." He hums, then shrugs. "I dunno, dating whomever you want seems interesting. I tried that once, but it didn't exactly work out for me." The part about 'hers being normal' makes one eyebrow raise - if she was fake anywhere, he was surprised. She actually looked amazing, much better than she did the other day. Really pretty.
When she lays her head down and starts talking about magic, Kukai erks, blinking. "Um." He looks down at Daichi, who's looking back up at him and at Unmei curiously. "Well yeah. And... yeah, there's a lot of that that's going around. I can think of two or three couples like that offhand." He rubs his chin. "It kinda tends to bleed over, one way or another, though. And as for choice, you always have a choice, even if it doesn't look like it."
Kukai leans back for a moment. "To.. be honest, I don't know what being alone would be like. I've only been dating a few months, and once I sort of locked in on one person, I spent all of a week apart from 'em. Although that week sucked about as much as anything ever has. I was miserable. So.. I guess I understand not wanting to be miserable."
Unmei Tama nodded and crossed her arms, nodding slowly and then covering her face again. "Yeah. You did seem like the type. The cool, popular type. I bet you had dozens of girls trying to be around you. I... I'm not... like that. I'm not... cool or good or nice and there really is nothing... good about me. to attract people to them. I mean, even this whole body thing? It's not even real."
She gestured to herself. "It's just... altered. It's fake. Just like the rest of me. And now Pin either won't talk to me or he says he's going to give my identity away from now on because I was being too nice with the other magical girls. I mean, I saved the blue sailor moon girl, but... we were having a truce, they were saving me, too. I couldn't just let her die. and that grief thing... well, kyouko needed it. She was dying. I couldn't just let her die, you know? That's NOT how a truce works!"
She growled and slammed her head down. "But now they know. They're going to know the bad things I've done and what if they try to kill me while I'm going to school or something? I mean, I knew when I came here I might die! Heck, I figured I wouldn't make it to my eighteenth! Take over the world? Come on, I can barely even pass basic geomatry! And they think I can help rule the world?"she gave a snort of derision.
Then sighed. "But... but I thought these years would at least be happy. That... that I'd make friends. I was feeling happy, you know? I had a girl friend. and... and the other magical girls, well, even f they were my enemies they didn't want me dead. They just wanted me to stop being bad. I even had a place I could go if I needed to get away for a bit. And now Pin is just ruining everything. But... but I can't do this without him. I'll die. I really will. You know?"
Poor Kukai probably hadn't expected any of this.
Kukai shifts, turning a bit to one side, his back to the cafe, one leg up in the booth, taking a few sips of his coffee while Unmei talks. This isn't the first 'bad girl' to open up to him, so he knows it can take a minute to get it all out. He grins a little. "Kinda. I'm one of the Guardians of Seiyou High, the Jack of Guardians. It's sort of like a cross between the class council and the assistants to all the other kids in the school. I... may have a fan club." Kukai says this last bit with a wide, embarrassed grin, rubbing the back of his head.
Kukai shakes it off and then leans in. "Well you gotta realize, there has to be somebody out there who liked you for you. They may have never said anything about it, though." He cocks his head, thinking. "And... as for your body, real is... subjective, I think is the word? It is what you think of it. When I henshin, that is both me and not me. It isn't the normal everyday me, but it's still me. If you changed yourself somehow, that's still you. It's just not the everyday you. So you should still think of yourself as yourself. And your partner, Pin? Sounds like a jerk."
He sits forward as she talks more. "You saved Mercury and Kyouko? Man, you don't sound very much like an evil person. I mean I know an evil girl who just sucks the energy outta people willy-nilly unless somebody gives her energy, and she annoys the crap outta me. You don't sound nearly as bad as that. I mean have you killed anybody or anything?" He eyes Unmei closely as she slams her hands down. "For the most part nobody attacks anybody while they're at school or doing their daily things. That doesn't happen. And... as for dying? I..." He thinks. "I don't actually think anybody has died in a year or so, and that was against a... very big youma." Trying to describe Walpurgisnacht without a lot of context seems outside the scope of the discussion for now.
Kukai sighs and then reaches over again (coffee hand, having set the cup down on his side of the table) and with what is probably untoward forwardness pats the top of Unmei's head. "I dunno what to say about that. I..." He sighs. "I don't like saying it, but I've been beaten within an inch of my life, put into a coma, and outright killed, once. It was some kinda powerful magic to come back from that. But what I figured out and what I told the person I'm dating now is that we only get so much time, and there's so much crazy and sometimes awful stuff in being magical. You have to do what you can to enjoy and celebrate the things you love because otherwise you can get wrapped up in the sadness. You can't ever lose hope. Hope is the most important thing in your life right now."
He sighs and then looks at her. "...I don't know what to say. If the difference is 'I hurt a few people without killing them or I die outright.' that's not really a argument at all. You'll hurt people. Which is awful. If I could help you find a third way, I will. I don't know what I can do to help, though." His hand is warm and comforting on the back of her head, patting gently.
Unmei Tama blinked a few times, staring at him. "A fan club? Really? Oh my gosh you really are on a different league." She then blinked and slammed her hands on the table. "I don't want to be me, though," she growled. "That was the whole point of coming here. It's why I'm doing any of this! It would have defeated the whole purpose if I could just be me. The reason I was even chosen was because the me I was had no future. Nothing at all."
She sighed and laid her head down again. "I don't even exist... and I want to keep not existing... ratherthan be me..."
She then shuddered. "N-no. I haven't... killed anybody. I don't want to kill anybody. I just want to... do what I'm told. That's all I have to do, right? Follow orders. Then I can be happy. But I keep not following orders..."
The pat makes her look up in confusion. And then he tells her that and she smiles. "I... so... you think if I tell her, it'll be okay? With me being one of the bad guys, we can still be happy until, well... if something bad happens?"
She then cringed. "Yes. I-I'm not going to kill anyone. Pin wants me to but... but I can't... you know? I mean, most of them are so... nice. I just have to beat them up a bit. And... and then... I-I don't kill anyone. I don't even really hurt them. Well, I might hurt them a little. But they get better! They can just sleep it off. I get the magical energy, people nap a bit, no one really gets hurt, you know? And..." She trailed off. "The... alternative... is a lot worse than death. so, so many times worse."
Kukai blushes again and grins, then leans back as she slams her hands on the table. "Well... I mean, how can you know you had no future? You'd never seen your future." He rubs his head, then shrugs. "I suppose it's your choice, though. I mean it's no different from a lot of other people I know who have made wishes or please for powers. Heck, it may not be that different from me."
Kukai leans back, looking at her for a moment, then gets up, making sure his hands were clean, and comes around to put an arm around her back. "... You sound really, really sad. I wish I knew what to say. I've never not wanted to exist, so..." All he can do is hug her with one arm, brotherly and comforting.
He nods, listening to her, and then pats her back. "I don't know what to say. Maybe in your heart you know how bad some of the things they want you to do are? It's hard to say."
She smiles and he grins back. "Yeah, I think so. Telling the truth and talking to people is always better than keeping secrets. And..." He frowns. "Pin is... wrong. You never want to kill anybody. I might want to punch a few people into a drooling mess from time to time, but I don't want to kill them. There's always another way. At least you're not like some of the people I know who go crazy if they don't get their magical energy..." He frowns again, thinking, then pats her back again. "It'll be ok, Unmei. I'll help you when I can."
Unmei Tama nodded and, when he came around, she leaned against him. "Why can't it just be like the books or the movies? Everyone is always happy in the end, or smiling, or... just...good. It's always good in the end..." she whispered, closing her eyes and nuzzling against him a little.
"You're my enemy, right? I mean... you're supposed to be. But... but I mean, even if we have to be enemies, does it mean we can't be friends? What if... it turns out Yuzu is a magical girl too, and we have to fight? What if it turns out she's one I fought?" Then shuddered. "Oh gosh. What if she's scary sword girl who tried to off me? I mean, she had murder in her eyes."
"And... I know I'm not doing good. But... the good guys always win, right? So... it's not like I'm doing anything really bad. and... and if we do win? Then... then I'll be one of the rulers of the world, you know? I can still help people then, right? I mean, it's not like everyone who rules now is good..."
She sighed and then groaned. "I'm not fit for this, you know? I don't even know why they chose me. I'm not like... some powerful person who just... is smart and clever or tough or cool. I'm just some loser who doesn't have any idea how to do any of this. Pin says it's not about being strong, it's about have the potential to be strong, but that all comes from Clotho, not me. Imagine if she'd chosen someone who was... good at this." Though, her hand went up to her chest. "Y-you can't tell anyone about this, okay? I mean... m-magic girl and guy's code, right? No talking."
There is a faint derisive snort from Kukai as she leans against him and mentions the books and movies. "Oh I wish. Believe me. Even as one of the good guys I still get fussed at because I sort of... It's like a hill, you know? You have to do a lot to get me mad at you, and push all the way to the top of the hill, but then you're on the other side and I get people telling me 'no, don't punch her any more, she doesn't deserve it!' and I'm standing there thinking 'seriously she nearly killed one of my friends and was actually trying to kill you lot earlier and you're telling me not to give her an instructable moment?'" He shakes his head. "No, it's not like the books. And a lot of us are only mostly good or mostly bad. I do think it'll be good in the end, though, but it's how much work you put into it to get there."
Kukai rolls his eyes. "Honestly at the moment you don't sound like much of an enemy. Seriously you could just take like a nap or two from everybody in Tokyo and as long as it didn't interfere with anybody I don't think most of us would look at you twice. And even if Yuzu is a good magical girl, here's the secret - like I said earlier, I know two pairings of 'good guy/bad guy' at least. Probably more floating around that I'm not aware of."
Kukai leans across her plates to pick up his coffee, taking a sip and listening. "Well. No, the good guys don't always win. I have lost my fair share of fights. In the end I expect we'll win, but it may not be without our share of loss and pain. And the really bad stuff sticks around sometimes. We gotta think about that. As for being a ruler of the world..." He looks down at her. "...I dunno about that."
He leans back in the booth for a moment, then smiles. "One of my best friends in this thing has no idea why she got picked. She's not smart or clever or tough or cool, but she fakes it at the right moments and everybody thinks she's super awesome. So... maybe take a cue from her? Even if you don't really believe you're something, if you need to be something, pretend you are for a bit, try to make everybody else think it, and then go through with things. That may help. And the..."
Kukai suddenly blinks. ....Oh, well. Crap. That's who this is. And she's looking up into his eyes begging him not to tell anybody about any of this. "Uh." He blinks for a minute, then grins. "Well only if I absolutely have to, like if I have to stop you from eating a stadium full of people or something. Otherwise it's safe with me." Understanding why she was so down in the dumps was a lot easier now. As far as he knew she'd been on a losing streak for a while - it's not like the Virtue forums hadn't mentioned somebody trying to ambush Kyouko and getting nearly hamburgered. The grin on his face is probably quite real and happy.
Unmei Tama nods and lays a little firmer against him, listening to each and every word. "So... you're saying... really? Ohhhh, that makes me soooo happy to know. I promise, I won't try to kill you, ever! So, ummm, if I ever almost kill you, just tell me, okay? I'll stop," she said with a grin. "And... I'm not a killer. Is all. I don't think my powers are... meant for that. But they're not really meant to... save people, either. I think they're meant to... give me... the choice," she mumbled. "And I wish it was like the books. i'd have a whole plethora of girls and guys who found me to be sexy and charming and inviting me over to slumber parties," she grouched.
Then looked up. "I know, right? It's just a nap! I mean, sure, it's in the middle of the day, but it's just a little magic! Really, you guys would all be better off if you just ignored me, you know? My whole youma thing? That wears off. Well, I can end it. After a bit. Probably. No need to like... cut me or anything. The person I infect doesn't even remember anything, either!"
That made her perk up. "R-really? So there are good and bad pairings? Yes! That's soooo cooool! I'm going to get super pretty girl friend and it's awesome! She even likes me, you know? She said she's HAPPY to have me around! No one says that about me! Heck, my own parents never even said that about me! But then, I guess they sucked too, so... but back home, no one."
That next bit made her pause. "Wait, you've... died?" She reached out and touched his shoulder. "You said that. Right. I'm... sorry. I... I do hope you guys all win in the end, okay? I know I have to try to stop you but... really, I think you'll beat me, so... and if not... I'll make sure you're well taken care of as prisoners, okay?"
She then snorted it. "Faking it? As if that'd ever work. I mean, you'd have to be a real good liar to be able to fake being cool. She doesn't sound like a very honest person." She paused. "as if I'm one to talk."
She blinked and game him a little smile. "I wouldn't eat that many people. I try to keep my devouring of human flesh to a three person minimum," she joked. She glanced up at him and stared.
She cocked her head to the side. "Kukai... you're... really nice. I'm happy you're one of the good guys." And then she hugged him, arms going around his neck.
He probably expected that. What he likely didn't expect was her pushing up and kissing him on the mouth. But then again, he DID have a fan club. So girls probably tried this all the time. What he probably really, really, really REALLY didn't expect was her trying to slip him the tongue.
Depending on what evil girls kissed him, THAT was likely new.
Kukai blushes a bit as she leans more against him. He laughs and then shrugs. "Aaah... ok. If you ever almost kill me I'll say stop." He grins back at her. "It sounds like you have the choice to do things and you don't want to hurt people. It's a good thing. I... you might be able to turn them to good, at least." He arches an eyebrow, then grins. "Um. I dunno what to say about that. I mean I sort of ... well. I dunno if Na-chan finds me sexy or not. Probably...?" He looks thoughtful.
Kukai looks at her for a second. "Wait. Wait, wait. Youma thing? That's a little different. Are you turning people into youma? Do they hurt people?" He pokes her side, but then after a moment nods. "Sure, there are good and bad pairings. They can be kinda crazy, though. But yeah, hopefully you can get along with her. And I'm sorry about your parents. My parents haven't been able to talk with me for a while, but my brothers at least tell me they like having me around." He makes a grinning face. "Mostly after I carry stuff home from the store for them."
He nods and then shrugs. "It was... a thing. I don't talk about the specifics a lot. But it was a good thing in the end." He eyes her and then grins. "Oh, right, and you'll have your own pet magical boy, huh?" His nose goes in the air, pointy, as he grins.
He looks sidelong at her, then shrugs. "It's more that she wants to be all those things but she doesn't think she is, so she tries to make herself be. And you better keep it to a zero person minimum."
He shrugs and grins down at her. "Well. I try to be, Unmei." He acks, as she hugs him, and he smiles, giving her a brotherly pat on the back. Which means he's wide open for the smooch and absolutely didn't expect it. He tries to get a hand in between her and him, but he ends up just slapping her side for a moment as her tongue slips into his mouth! He tastes like coffee and tiger tail and probably healthy things. Maybe a touch like chocolate.
He's not really had any evil girls kiss him. At least not evil at the time, if you count Sora. Eventually he gets the brain back to scoot away - off the booth seat, falling into the floor. He just knows the people behind the counter saw it all and will probably tell Nagihiko. His face feels like it's on fire.
The worst thing about it? Unmei was a good kisser - eager, at least.
Unmei Tama was most definitely eager. And when it ended, she had this kind of... dreamy look on her face. She smiled at him, a grin on her face. "Wow... I knocked you off the chair, right? That means I did a good job, right?" she asked, a tad too eager. "Would you believe I've never even kissed anyone before? I gotta say, for a first kiss that... was kind of nice. I don't suppose you'd be interested in being one of those pet magical boys, would you? I mean, Yuzu said she's totally okay with having a boy in the relationship. And honestly, I wanna experience all the different kinds of relationships I can as a girl," she said with a great grin, before holding her hand out.
"I won't do it again. Probably. But that really was nice. You have a unique flavor." she probably wasn't helping matters at all for him. "And... I do feel a bit better so... thank you."
Once he was seated again. "In fact, it was so good I think I will keep my devouring of human flesh to a zero person maxiumum. Oh, and minimum!" She then blinked a few times. "Tries to... make herself be? That... sounds... it's not an easy thing to do," she muttered gently. "Not everyone can be... good at faking it, right?"
She chuckled softly. "Honestly, ehhh. When it comes to parents, there's one thing I've learned. They all suck. They only see their kids as a means by which to push their own goals and agendas. As if we're all just big make up dolls they can dress up, tell to do x or y, then live through us. If you don't see yours very often, it's probably for the best. Frankly, Yuzu is all the.... family I need. Does a girl friend count as family?"
"And the youma... don't. They drain people. Well, mostly. They'll hurt people if people try to stop them. But otherwise they just kind of... revel in their sin. They might make a bit of property damage, but that's what insurance is for. That's why I always target the bigger places owned by people with money. They can afford to pay for it and get the insurance. I wouldn't target somewhere small that couldn't."
She then blinked. "Wait, Na-chan? Oh... do you already have a girl friend? Errr, you're not going to get in trouble for that, are you? I'm sorry. I mean, you're so cute and nice. I figured you were single. You know. The whole 'Everyone's best frien but never actually gets any dates' type. Well, that or gay. I guess if you're gay, I'm sorry about that too. Cause, frankly, that'd just be rude. Unless you liked it. In that case, well, go me."
Kukai tried to get to his feet, but first had the good sense to back away from Unmei, feeling eyes boring into him from all over. "I was surprised, is all! And no, I mean, I've got somebody!" He sits back down across from her. "I don't want to be involved in ... in something when I've got somebody I care about!" He coughs and then looks at her. "Ah... good. Good."
He shrugs a little at the comment about faking it. "I... dunno. I just... do what I can to help her and support her." He starts to lean back but then stays upright, a little nervous around her now. "And my parents don't suck. They're trying to work and do things out of the country to make a good life for me and my brothers. I've never felt like my parents were pushing me in any direction. And family is who we make of it."
He frowns a little, listening to her. "I've never heard of a youma that was so nice and friendly as these. I'm not sure what I think.... but I'd probably have to help banish them if I saw them."
He nods after a minute. "I.. well we come here a lot so I might get into trouble, yeah. I dunno. And I get plenty of dates if I want them! And~" He seizes up just a little. He doesn't exactly know how to answer that. Is he gay? No. He very much likes girls. And feminine guys. And guys that dress up like girls. "I think I'm too new to dating and romance and all that to know exactly what I am, but I do like girls. But seriously what the heck does that have to do with anything?" He's speaking quietly now, trying not to yelp. Part of him thinks he needs to bail, quickly and politely, at least...
Unmei Tama stared at him. And then she grinned. "Oh my gosh. You're... you're embarrassed, aren't you? Right now. You're practically shaking. Was my little kiss that much to you? Mmmmmm. I must have been reallllly good," she said with just a hint of pride. "And that's good! If you really like this girl, then yeah. Don't jeapordize it. If you want, I can talk to her. Let her know I was just... feeling bad and you helped cheer me up. If she wants, I can kiss her too, to make things even. Would you like that?" she asked, with just a hint of tease. Oh, she was cutthroat when she had the advantage.
She frowned. "Your... parents sound nice. They sound... like parents are supposed to be. Like they are in the movies. You're... really lucky. Having parents like that. Ones who... care about you. And I'm sure your friend appreciates your support."
"Well, they aren't nice or friendly. They just, you know, keep absorbing magical energy. Most of them aren't really like... evil youma, either. They're just... themselves. Like this one guy? He was really proud of his cooking. So I upped his pride and he wanted to make EVERYONE eat his cooking, you know? And that was it. He didn't try to hurt anyone until this weird orange girl popped up. Such a dork," she rolled her eyes.
"And you don't need to get in trouble. I could tell her what happened. And I'd be more than happy to give her a little kiss too~ Especially if she's cute. Is she cute? Cuter than me?" she asked. Oh gosh she had no idea. If she met nades she'd probably try to steal her.
Kukai glares at Unmei across the table. "Well since this is the same cafe where the two of us have had a lot of our best memories then yeah, I am a little embarrassed. She's going to come in and hear about this from one of the servers, I just know it, and then I'm going to be sunk. And no, I'll tell her, you shouldn't tell her anything, it'll be ok. And no, I don't want you to kiss her!"
He rubs his head and then sighs. "My parents are pretty good, I guess. They've never done anything I thought was bad, anyway. And yeah, thanks." He finds his coffee and takes a sip while she talks. And successfully doesn't choke on it because he remembers the golden cook. He'd actually been a problem... "That doesn't sound so bad." He hopes he gets that across without sounding like he knows more than he did.
Kukai shakes his head again. "No. Absolutely not. You are not giving Na-chan any kisses. And yes, she's much cuter than you." He looks around for a second, then shrugs. "I think I need to get outta here for now... it was... it was a thing, meeting you again."
Unmei Tama nods slightly and gives a little giggle. "I'm sorry for getting you in trouble, then. My advice? Just tell her. Text her or something. So she doesn't find out from someone else. I kissed you after all, so it's not like she can get mad about it. Well, she could, but it'd be kind of a waist."
"Really? Nothing? That's.... nice. And yeah, most of them aren't so bad. And I mean... come on. Sometimes a person just has to let go, you know? People are always telling them where to go or what to do or who to be. t's probably nice for them to get out and just... act. To just do it. Without getting in trouble."
Then blinked. "Oh, she is? Yeah. Much... cuter. Right... a lot..." And then she looked a little mopey. She lowered her eyes and sighed, looking a little... sad. "You don't like me now, do you?" she asked softly. "Was I that bad? It't just... that's the kind of person I am. People don't... want... to be near me. The me I am. My own parents didn't want to. Only... only Yuzu seems to like how I am..." It was as if she'd suddenly lost half a foot of height and just... shrunk in place. nudging her food. "You... you can go. I won't make you stay..."
Kukai nods slowly. That was the same information he'd given her earlier, and there wasn't much reason he'd ignore it. "Yeah. Yeah, I'll tell her. And I.. don't think she'll get mad." At him, at least. Unmei might be staring down the barrel of Yamato Maihime.
He then nods and then shrugs. "I... well, I guess not. But you're the one getting in trouble, if anybody puts two and two together, you know? That's probably a good pounding in itself."
Kukai shrugs as she visibly deflates. Oops. "Well.. I'm biased. She was my first kiss, after all. Sooo.." He raises a hand. "No, no, I think you're fine! Just... a little forward. And kinda aggressive and maybe need some help with some real issues. So... no, you're ok. Just.. I dunno. Maybe feeling yourself. And your parents..." He shakes his head. "I'm sorry about your parents. They actually sound kinda like butts, to be honest. Or just not paying attention."
He watches her shrink into herself, then shakes his head. "Iiii.. Well. I'll stick around a little longer as long as you don't try to kiss me again, ok?" He can still taste milkshake on his tongue - mostly because she'd still had some on hers.
Unmei Tama nodded. "Right. Good! then ummm... all is good. I don't want to get you in trouble. I just felt... you know..." She frowned. "A year ago I hated guys, you know? I thought they were icky and disgusting. But... lately? I think i like them too. Not as much as girls, though."
She then shrugged. "If I get in trouble, I get in trouble. I mean... I already pretty much expected I'd end up dead from all this. So someone beating me up or slamming me into the ground? That's... fine." She shivered. "Though... the sword girl trying to kill me. That... that was really scared. She... was going to finish me off. I think if she'd caught me, she would have."
"Too forward and aggressive. Ugh." Face plant. "I'm the worst at this. I'm not supposed to do stuff like that, right? I am the worst possible girl. What if Yuzu hates it too? What if I kiss her and she dumps me because it's awful?" It had been a chocolate milk shake. It was nice. Though Nade's were probably far sweeter. "I won't kiss you again. Magical girl's honor."
Kukai nods and then laughs. "Oh. Well. Half a year ago or so I didn't even think anything about guys or girls. These days, well, it's part of the brain space." He shrugs.
Kukai hmms and then looks over. "...I don't think anybody should expect to die from having their greatest wish fulfilled. And getting hurt should never be 'fine'. I think..." He hmms. "Yeah. I dunno. Maybe if you could show more people that you're not actually causing harm, just random chaos, they'd be more inclined to let you go in peace? I dunno."
He winces and then nods. "Iii.. well, yeah. I'm sorry. I mean there's probably guys who'd enjoy that." He sits for a moment, then shakes his head. "Ok, no. If I were single and looking for somebody to be with, I'd probably still be kissing you and my head would be disconnected from my neck and flying up through the roof from the effect. Bad timing, I guess. If you kiss Yuzu I'm sure she'd like it a ton." He nods seriously. "And... well, ok. Mahou shoujo's honor." It may be just a bit of a dissapointment but not as much as the idea of not getting any more Nades-Nagi kisses is even worse.
Unmei Tama nods. "I liked girls then. Just.... guys were soooo ick. Now, I actually think some are kind of cute, like you. I say in a totally non-flirty way," she added quickly.
"Shouldn't have to... I guess. But, well, the people who gave it to me..." She frowned. "I'm not going to lie. I know they're not nice people. Not... mafia, I hope. But... they said once I turned eighteen, I'm free to go. But I'm pretty sure that's a lie. I doubt they expect me to make it that far. Even if I do, well, I still don't trust them. But..." She glanced to him. "... It's... worth it, you know? I'm a lot happier now than I was a few years back. A day doesn't go by that I've ever regretted this decision. If I have to get beat up once in a while for that? So be it. I'll just avoid scary sword girl."
Then her eyes lit up. "Oh my gosh, really? She will? Ohhhh, that's it! Next time I see her I'm totally going to kiss her! It'll be so sweet and romantic and oh my gosh I bet she's a really good kisser, too, I bet boys kiss her all the time! And girls! Eeeeee!" She wiggled excitedly in her seat.
A waitress nearby glanced up and just glared. had she heard the 'still kissing her' part? Oh dear.
Kukai snorts at that last bit of the first statement. "A-yeah-uhuh. I'm sure you mean it in the most non-flirty way ever. Just like that was the most non-flirty kiss ever." He grins faintly for a moment.
"Probably some... oh, heck, I dunno. Maybe somebody like Eclipse or something. I'd expect something like this from them." He hmms. "How old are you now? You look like... 14, 15? Maybe 16? But that's only a couple years. Hopefully you can manage it without causing too much trouble. By that point maybe you'll be strong enough to get away from them without letting them steal your powers or gifts?" He shrugs again and then smiles, a small, faint smile. "Well. If you're happy. That's a good thing. You can just avoid the worst and strongest magical girls and guys, I guess. I promise not to kill you either."
He blinks, then laughs. He'd been completely forgotten. That's probably a good thing. "Well. I guess so. You'll have to find her and find out." It's probably a good thing Kukai misses the waitress glaring at him, otherwise he'd be in misery.
Unmei Tama giggles and shakes her head. "Oh, not at all. The comment was non-flirty. The kiss was my way of saying I thought you were really sweet, cute, and I'd be all over you if you were single. Well, if Yuzu liked you too. If your girlfriend likes that kind of thing, still might~" she teased. Okay, that evil side was beginning to leak through.
Then she urked and nodded. "Y-yeah. Kinda... them," she muttered, poking her fingers together. "F-fifteen. And... yeah. A few years. I think... I hope I can do it. Though... I think... Pin's going to get mad at me if I have any more 'truces'. But honestly, that witch was scary. Also, I was sooooo cooooool! I totally finished off the witch!" No she didn't. "With a bit of help." Kyouko finished it. "But I was totally awesome."
She then nodded. "I wonder if it's too late to go see her. You know, Kukai, you're really good at cheering a girl up, you know? I was so miserable earlier. Now... I actually feel kind of... good."
Kukai sighs and then shrugs. "Well, thank you, Unmei." He coughs. "I'm... not entirely sure how Na-chan would take you. I'm a little afraid to find out. She might be madder at you than the orange sword girl." Ooor not. Lord, who knew.
He nodded after a few moments, then shakes his head. "Look. Tell Pin either you can make truces or you can get murdered by somebody being overzealous about 'preventing you from your evils.' Also yeah, there are bigger evils out there like witches and things. Those need to get got, no matter who does it."
Kukai looks at his phone, then shakes his head. "Nah, it's probably fine. You could go see her if you wanted." And at that last bit, he grins. "Well I'm glad. And thank you!" He stands up, draining the last of his coffee. "I guess I'll see you around." He considers Unmei for a moment. "Do you want my phone number, in case you happen to need it for something?"
Unmei Tama giggled softly., "Well, she can be as mad as she likes as long as she doesn't try to kill me," she said with a grin. Then blinked. "Hopefully she doesn't try to kill me." She shuddered at that thought.
She nodded. "Sometimes I wonder if Pin wants me to get murdered. I mean, sometimeslike... it feels like it doesn't care at all what happens to me. Then other times it seems like it's trying to protect me and that it does care and... I can never quite say which it is. Though yeah. The witch was terrifying. I thought I was going to die."
She nodded, getting to her feet. "Yeah. Having your number would be..." She paused. Then giggled. "You gave it to me last time we talked, remember silly?" She got up as well. Then paused... and hugged him again. No kiss this time. "Thank you, Kukai. For everything. You really put my mind at ease. Your girlfriend is really lucky."
Kukai laughs and then shrugs. "I... I will keep her from killing you. Everything else is up in the air." He sees that shudder and shudders himself. Then he sighs. "I'm telling you, Pin sounds like somebody I wouldn't have anything to do with. But then again he didn't grant my most heartfelt wish. I don't know what to tell you, Unmei. Just follow your heart. That's the best thing to do."
He stands as well, picking up both their items onto a tray and carrying them over to a depositry for later collection and washing. "Oh. I did? OK. Well, ok." He erks as she hugs him, but then nods and hugs her back, patting. "You're welcome. I hope you can get along ok. If you need me call me. I gotta get going." He makes a rueful face. "Gotta go youma patrolling. See you around." He nods to her, then heads for the door, leaving Unmei to her afternoon.
