Sakura Kinomoto was sitting in bed, a book in her lap, bored out of her mind. She'd played cell phone games, she'd watched tv, now she was onto books. She. Was. So. Bored. She wanted a card. A distraction. A -ANYTHING-.
It didn't help that she was a good girl and now that she was completely healed, thanks to Mamoru, she wasn't even taking her medication and was instead using illusion to pretend she was.
All in all, the normally active girl was going out of her mind and wanted this whole ordeal to be over. Because oh my gosh she was considering jumping out the window(to escape, she had magic jumping card.)
Though, Touya had come by... with ~Yukito~, so she wasn't completely miserable. He'd fluffed her pillow and given her a stuffed teddy bear.
Oh Yukito...
Kukai has no real idea about any of Sakura's friends, but he's been meaning to go visit her for the past few days and now he's finally got a chance. The thing is, this chance intersects with his being so tired he can't manage even a patrol or anything today. He's sort of hoping he can handle sitting around without falling asleep.
Still, he should've visited Sakura much earlier than now. He's just been distracted. Chasing clowns has occupied his time. He trudges along the hall towards her room, looking around for the right one, and finally gets to the right number. Pushing open the door, Kukai summoned up his stamina and walks in, looking around. "Hey... Sakura? Is this the right room?"
Sakura Kinomoto glanced over and her face lit up so much you'd think he was carrying a three layer ice cream cake and a side of fancy donuts. "Yes! In here, hi Kukai-kun!" she called out. She slammed the book shut and put it on the bed besides herself.
"What are you doing here? Are you okay? How is everything? Have you seen anybody? Did you ever find those clowns? Are you still on patrols?" Oh my gosh she was going a mile a minute and obviously bored out of her mind.
Kukai raises both hands, waving them at Sakura, and sits down on the chair next to the bed, looking at Sakura and grinning. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, down, girl. Geez." He reaches over, patting her hand. "I came because I hadn't visited you yet since you'd been in the hospital. You certainly look really good for somebody who was apparently hit by a truck."
Kukai shrugs. "Everything is.. well, not all right. I'm still looking for the clown whatever, but honestly I am so tired I can't bring myself to look like I have been. I'm exhausted. And that's not good. I want to go more, but I can't manage it." He rubs his head. "As for patrols, no, I haven't been, which is doubly bad. I'm ... too tired."
Kukai shakes his head, then rubs his temples with one hand. "But anyway, no reason to talk about my troubles. Let's talk about yours. What happened to put you in here, anyway?"
Sakura Kinomoto nodded. "Yeah. Mamoru-sempai healed me up. I wanna go back home, but, well... I think they'll notice if I go from half the bones in my body shattered, to not a single scrape on me. I appreciate it, I really do, though! I was in a LOT of pain! Mamoru-sempai is the best!"
She then blinked. "you're too... tired? Aren't you sleeping?" Then, gently, her hand reached out and cupped his cheek and she looked almost motherly. An odd thing coming from the kid. "Is it that nightmare? Is it still bothering you? I'm so, so sorry Kukai-kun. If you want, you can rest in one of the beds? I can hide you with illusion, no one will notice. I have this room to myself, usually."
She then gulped. "Err..." Looking away. "A truck hit me. It was... dark and it just came out of nowhere. I can barely remember anything about it..."
Kukai ooohs. "Mamoru, huh? Yeah... that's good. I'm glad you're all right." He leans up, hugging the smaller girl again. "And yeah, I sort of had the same thing happen - I had a coma, then I didn't have a coma, and it was weird. And yeah." He chuckles. "Pain is a common occurence in our job, though."
Kukai shrugs. "A few hours a night. It's hard." He shakes his head. "No, actually. No more nightmares. I'm just.. out at all hours, searching the town for the clowns. They've vanished. I'm getting to the point where I think they've left town."
Kukai looks up at Sakura for a moment, leaning on the side of the bed, then shakes his head. "No, it's all right. Nagihiko, Nadeshiko, you, my brothers, everybody wants me to rest more and have all made room for me. It's just not .. I haven't let myself. Yet. But I got to." He yawns, then shakes his head, looking down. "Musta been a fast truck. I've never been hit by a truck. You gotta look better."
Sakura Kinomoto nodded. "You were in a coma? did you get out?" Then... blinked. "Wait. Don't answer that. sorry. I've been stuck here a long, long time."
"You should try to get more sleep. Other people can look for them, too. You don't need to do everything yourself, you can ask for help." ... Sakura. Was giving. This lecture.
Then she nodded, quickly looking away. "U-uh huh. It was.... big and mean. Just came out of nowhere..." She was the worst liar in the world. She kept tugging on her blanket as if she might be able to pull it apart.
Kukai shrugs. "I attacked Miss White's big building since she stole a particularly valuable X-Egg, and she punched me into an abandoned diner. Unfortunately the gas wasn't disconnected and the diner blew up around me. If I hadn't been in henshin, I'd have been dead. I still spent a week unconscious out of my mind, and then another two weeks in bed, weak as dishwater. I just got lucky waking back up, that's all. It was just the effect of the magic."
Kukai groans and leans forward. "I would look for them but it's such a personal thing. As far as I know they haven't bothered anybody else, and honestly they didn't hurt Nagihiko or Nadeshiko, just... frustrated them. So I hate to ask anyone to look for them."
Kukai yawns, leaning more on his arms now and listening. "Big mean truck. Mm. Sounds bad. Gotta stay out of the road kid." He mmphs, looking at her without really hearing the words..
Sakura Kinomoto went wide eyed. "H-Hannah-sempai did that to you? Why? What'd you do? Were you okay? A-are you two friends again?" Then... "Does... she do thingsl ike that... often? Fight people?" She was definitely not looking at him at all, chewing on her lower lip, looking at everything but him now.
She took a deep breath and, for the first time... looked him in the eyes. "Don't do it for yourself, then. Do it for your friends. Because all of them can see what you're doing to yourself and a few patrols for you would hurt a lot less than watching you do this to yourself... a lot, lot less..."
Kukai shakes his head slightly, yawning more. "hmm-mm. I punched her inna stomach the other day. Why my shoulder was messed up. An' she's a rotten kid. She always fights everybody. I dunno if we're friends."
Kukai's eyes are only half open as he fights sleep, trying to resist. "Yeah... s'ok. I'm gonna stop. Real goose. Soft and going home. Gotta pachinko." Kukai's eyes are fully closed now as he mumbles himself into unconsciousness, slumped forward on the side of Sakura's bed.
Sakura Kinomoto nodded, opening her mouth to respond. Then... he passed out. She blinked a few times before grinning. She pulled out her key and whispered the incantation. Using wind to gently close the door, then climbing out, using float to lift him up and make him weightless.
She then gently guided him to a bed, laying him down on it and covering him up, playing her stuffed animal to his chest so he had something to cuddle. Once she was sure he was comfy, she used illusion to quickly hide him, so no one could see.
She was happy he was finally getting the rest he needed.
