Lullaby for a lost soul

Sayaka brings an upset Sachiko to rest at her home after an incident in the park, and attempts to comfort her, after learning more about her tragic past.

Fortunately, Sayaka's house wasn't far from the playground, at least when she leapt from building top to building top. Having super powers was sometimes convenient in the way that she didnt have to wait all night for a slow bus!

Of course, she was slightly hampered with Sachiko on her back, and with a portion of her energy drained..She'll probably feel the consequences later on. Hopefully, Saya still has some grief cubes laying around, maybe even a grief seed.

The warm, inviting lights of her familiar house soon appear over the horizon a good ten minutes later, and she leaps into through one of the open windows, one she deliberately left open that leads directly to her room.

It's important to have a quick escape and entry route when you're operating as a secret superheroine. Fortunately her parents are not home tonight, nor tomorrow. Having wealthy - albeit busy - parents made it easier for her to sneak around and be up at all crazy hours of the night.

Reaching her room, she gently settles Sachiko on her warm bed, turning on the bedside lamp so it's not totally dark in her room. Little kids tended to be afraid of the dark in her experience. "Stay here and rest, Sachi-chan. I'll be right back. I just need to grab your walker for you, okay?"

By the time they reach Sayaka's house, Sachiko is, more-or-less, well past the point of argument or disagreement. Grief, exhaustion, and trauma have all made for a cocktail of sleepy child. There's hardly even an effort for the girl to get under the covers, although she does slip off her child-sized slippers, leaving her toes clad in nothing more than a pair of white tights.

As Sayaka rushes off to retrieve the last of Sachiko's accoutrements, the little girl rests her head on a pillow that smells simultaneously familiar and utterly foreign.

She should fall asleep easily, and yet she doesn't. All the while Sayaka is away, Sachiko shifts and turns and twists until her cute petticoats and the lace of her dress are all rumpled and distorted. Such things were not made for little girls to wear to bed, and perhaps it is the outfit constraining her from comfort. But probably not.
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 05:12:12 72251
Sayaka returns about 15 minutes later, although when she does she is awkwardly trying to shove the walker through the window. Fortunately the window is big enough that she is able to make it fit, but phew, what a pain! It's not exactly a convenient shape or size. She probably ended up scratching the window but that's the least of her worries right now.

With a tired sigh, Saya sits on the edge of the bed, glancing over at Sachiko. "Hey, are you comfy? Oh! That's right. You're still wearing your dress..Lemme see if I can find something that might work.."

She hops up from the bed again, and searches through her drawer, eventually coming back with a loose but comfy looking t-shirt, which would probably fall a bit further down on the younger girl. It's white with little pinks frills along the edges, a pink ribbon near the top and pink ponies painted all over it. There's probably a good reason why the mostly blue, tomboyish girl doesnt wear it much.

"Here! Try this on for size! It'll probably be a bit more comfy for you. Can I get you anything to eat or drink? Hot chocolate or cookies?"
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 05:15:30 72252
For most children, 'cookies' is a magical word.

Sachiko is no exception. All her cares and worries of the moment are abandoned at the offer, and her eyes light up hopefully. "Cookies?" she asks.

Sitting upright, Sachiko slides to the edge of the bed and starts trying to figure out how to undo her dress. There are laces in the back, and ribbons in the front and at her sleeves, and another about her waist; so much effort must go into putting this child in clothing, and she looks vaguely lost.

"After cookies, will you help me change?" Sachiko asks curiously. Usually she has a nanny for this effort.
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 05:35:19 72255
Sayaka peers thoughtfully at the girl's dress. "Wow, that really is a very pretty but complex looking dress. It's a wonder you got into it in the first place!" She doesn't know much about the girl's home life, unfortunately.

"Alright, lemme fix you some hot chocolate and cookies, then I'll help you with your dress! Feel free to look around!" and she quickly shuts the window before hurrying downstairs to make the snack.

Her room is pretty generous, though probably not what Sachi is used to. There's a bit stereo system with tons of music CDs in one corner, lots of music posters and even a little music box on the bedside table.
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 05:37:22 72257
More like what Sachiko is used to than Sayaka might realise. While Sayaka is off playing hostess, Sachiko limps her way about the room, prefering to lean on furniture and walls to using her walker. She studies the musical pieces--mostly more contemporary than anything she's used to herself, then turns up things on Sayaka's desk.

It's the stereo that draws Sachiko's last and most attention, though, and here that Sayaka finds her upon her return. The little girl is standing with her hand on the stereo, finger near the button to turn it on ... but not touching it. She seems hesitating, as if debating for herself whether to push it or not.
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 05:44:51 72258
The scent of delicious baked cookies and hot chocolate soon wafts through the room as Sayaka returns with a large tray and dishes and mugs.

"Hey! I'm back! My mom bakes a lot so she had lots of left overs! Help yourself, I'll just set them down here.." and she rests the tray on the bedside table, peering over at the stereo.

"Do you like music, Sachi? Have a favorite singer or composer? I listen mostly to classical music, although lately, a friend's been getting me into more contemporary rock songs.." There's a recent Pink Floyd album there, in between Mozart and Beethoven. Odd.
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 05:48:09 72260
Sachiko startles at the sound of Sayaka's voice. She turns to look over her shoulder, then catches herself on the wall. Slowly, the little girl sinks to a seat next to the stereo, legs before her on the floor.

"Mmm," she agrees, quietly, to the question of music. "Maybe," she alters the response after a moment of thought. "I used to want to be a ballerina. That was my dream," she explains softly. "An-chi ..." she starts to say, then makes an unhappy face as she tries to work through the memories. "An-chi wanted me to be primadonna at the Tokyo Ballet."
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 05:59:33 72263
Sayaka chuckles, "Sorry! Did I startle you? We're the only ones here so.." She peers over at the stereo, arching a brow, "No, really, it's okay. Feel free to look over my stuff. It's not like I have many guests here all the time. I mean, when we were younger, Hitomi-chan, Madoka-chan and I used to play dress up and have tea parties, and later on cops and robbers..But I guess when you grow up, peolpe change.." she sighs quietly, thinking of her childhood friends.

"Anyway, I haven't had visitors around in a long time, so it's nice to have you over, even if it's under these circumstances..Here.." She pulls out the pink floyd CD that Alex had bought for her, slipping it into the player, "Let's try this one.." Hmm, upbeat rock music, but not like, crazy rock. Not bad. She smirks.

"Not my typical cup of tea but.."

Peering thoughtfully at Sachi, Saya smiles, "Really? A ballerina? That would be nice. I could see you dancing in a beautiful outfit, you probably have the moves and the grace for that..Why did you change your mind? Do you have a new dream?"

There's that name again, the one that she cant help but feel guilty about. Afterall, Sayaka was one of the ones who..Defeated her, as a witch. Anshi..She sighs, "I'm sorry..Maybe you should still hold onto that dream. I'm sure it'd make her happy. But only if it made you happy too.."
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 06:05:21 72264
Sachiko watches Sayaka quietly, demonstrating the curiosity--but none of the insatiable talking--of any other eight year old. When the music is put in, she winces and stares at the stereo uncertainly, then wrinkles her nose. "It sounds ..." she starts to say, then shakes her head. "I don't think I like it. It's too harsh," she says.

But there are other questions, and there are cookies. Sachiko carefully pushes herself back up to her feet, then wobbles her way carefully across the room to the bedside table. There, she collapses back onto the bed to rest a few moments. Cookies will have to wait another minute.

"After she--" Sachiko trails off, trying to find a better word than the obvious. She finds none. "--died," she settles on, "I couldn't go because my foster parents didn't have the money. And then, when they did have the money, they weren't good at getting me there on time. My case worker hated taking me. And then, when the Senator adopted me I got to go more regularly, but then ... Norie-chan made me have a coma, and now I can't really dance anymore. It was a stupid dream, anyways. If An-chi can't see me dance, then what's the point?"
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 06:12:54 72266
Sayaka hmms, sitting back a moment to listen to the music. It's definitely..Different, from what she's used to, but she's determined to open her mind to new things. However, considering she has a guest over, perhaps something a bit less...Harsh would be in order.

"No worries, how about this one?" she flips on a Chopin, playing his raindrop movements, "This one is a little gentler. Do you like classical music, Sachi-chan?"

She offers the younger girl the tray of cookies and pours her some hot chocolate, tossing in some marshmallows for good measure before handing it to her. There are even little cute dishes - royal doulton with handpainted blue periwinkles on the bottoms. Definitely she's trying to impress the girl to some extent.

What she says next however, definitely blows Saya away. The subject of An-chi chan is always a touchy one, and she is careful about how she picks her words. "I'm sorry that you had to go through that, and at such a young age. But somehow, you survived. You made it." she is a little surprised to hear that the Senator had adopted her. So she must be pretty well-off, moreso than even Sayaka's doctor parents.

She tries not to look too surprised however, but it begs the question, "Wow, so are you happy with the senator? I hope he treats you well..Perhaps someday..."

Ugh. Oh no. It's HER again, Norie. Sayaka's eyes narrow at the name, hands clenched tightly. And she was just starting to like the girl, too! "Wait....WHAT!? Norie-chan put you in a COMA?!" Okay. NOW she's really mad.
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 06:19:16 72269
Cookies still work to bring Sachiko out of her deepest funk. She reaches for the offered foods and nibbles on them happily, but glances up at Sayaka's bluster and fury--fittingly in time with the thunderclouds of Chopin's raindrops.

"I think so," Sachiko answers uncertainly, as the rain and thunder interact around them. She tilts her head inthought, then admits, "I'm not entirely sure. But I remember ... I used to let her feed on me a lot. I probably shouldn't have, but she was hurting. She needed someone to care for her, and she seemed to care for me like An-chi did. We danced together," she remembers. "Momo-chan didn't like that. But I wanted to dance with her, because Norie-chan understood me. She ... she knew why I wanted to dance. Why I needed to dance."

And now what? Her first cookie gone, Sachiko admits quietly, "I don't know if I like the senator. I barely got to know him. I almost never see him. It's a big and empty house, with only my nanny who doesn't want to watch over me, most of the time. I have all the toys and clothes I could want, and my friends are always allowed to come visit. But ... I miss ..." Anshi, of course. Being a little sister to someone so doted and devoted. She doesn't finish the thought. Instead, Sachiko dwells in awkwardness for a moment longer, then sighs and reaches for the hot chocolate.
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 06:29:55 72273
Sayaka pours some hot chocolate and dips a gingersnap cookie in the warm liquid, watching it melt in the soft creamy concoction for a minute. Dipping the warm cookie in her mouth makes her relax a bit. But her hands still clench as she thinks of what Norie did. Dammit!

"I..Didn't realize. That girl..Just like him.." she sighs. Is she doing a foolish thing, allowing both Norie and Alex to feed off of her? But, isnt that what heroes do? Helping people? Maybe it's her burden to bear. AT least Saya can recharge with grief cubes, but her energy is bound to burn faster even because of the curse of the Puella. She'll need to be careful.

"Sorry. I guess it was your choice. You wanted to help her, tot make her happy. I know how it is when you're alone, when you want someone to care about you. when you want to help someone.."

Sayaka glances thoughtfully towards the walker again. So that's why, but.."But, maybe some day, you can dance again? Maybe your body just needs time to heal, and if not..Maybe I can heal you.." but not now, she's still tired from that last feeding.

"I'm sorry that you're lonely at home. But you're welcome here anytime you want. I'm not Anshi, and I could never replace her. But I'll do my best to watch out for you, and to help you whenever you need it. I promise!" she smiles, gently rubbing the girl's back if she'll let her, trying to offer her comfort.

Sipping cocoa and eating cookies has quite the consoling effect on an eight-year-old. Backrubs only make things all the more irresistable. Yet some great pall must hang over this child, for all the effort and attention, she still seems morose rather than pleased.

Sachiko leans against Sayaka as the bluenette rubs her back, closes her eyes and lets out a sigh. Her second cookie down, she holds her mug of cocoa primly in her lap like a little well-trained princess might, and does not spill it on her nice dress.

After a few moments of silence, Sachiko admits very quietly, "I wish she hadn't stopped. I wish she'd drained me all up. Then maybe I could be with An-chi."
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 06:39:59 72276
Sayaka sighs, wishing she could take all the pain away from this poor girl. What a sad, lonely life she must have lived. She rests her hot chocolate back on the tray, wrapping a warm, protective arm around the girl. And cringes again, at the girl's name. Why? Why did she have to die? Why did Sayaka have to be the one to kill her?

She swallows, trying to find the right words, anything that could take the girl's pain away, that could make things better.

"I'm sorry..If there was anything I could have done, I would have. I just..." she shakes her head, "She's up there, watching you all the time you know. Making sure you behave yourself. But I dont think she'd be happy if you..Went before your time. I'm sure she just wants you to be happy as you are now."

"To live your life like you should have, and remember her as she was, happy, strong. Like your big sister. So please dont say that you want to die. I think...A lot of peole would miss you if you had. Including me. You're a very sweet and kind girl, and as hard as it is to keep on living, I guess all we can do is keep on trying our best, and keep on walking, doing our best to honour and remember those we've lost. But never giving up on everything that life has to offer."
Sachiko Hayakawa 2017-03-01 06:44:44 72278
Sachiko has cried over this topic so many times. It would be easy to do so one more time, less than an hour after the last time. But she doesn't. Maybe she's lost the will to cry, or maybe her tears have all dried up. Instead, she leans forward and sets her cocoa--only half drunk--on the bedside table.

Sachiko leaves the conversation where it sits, unaddressed and unresolved, and instead turns to curl up on the bed still in that awkward beautiful dress, using Sayaka's lap as a pillow, instead of the fluffy things designed for it. She closes her eyes and wraps her arms as far around Sayaka as they will reach (which isn't nearly all the way) and tries desperately to block out the bad. But how do you block out that which only exists from within?/
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 06:59:40 72285
Sayaka sighs softly, as she holds the girl against her, uncertain of what else she could say that could possibly help the situation any. Such a touchy subject is something that Sayaka has never experienced herself.

Sure, she's lost friends, even had her heart broken over the closest thing she ever came to love. Saya's nearly lose herself to despair even..But she's never once experienced the death of a loved one, which is a frightenning thing.

All she can think of to do, is what she's always done when she felt sad and alone. She has always turned to music for comfort, the only medium she knows that she truly stir her soul. And she begins to gently rock the girl in her arms as she sings a beautiful lullaby that her mom used to sing to her as a little girl.

Sayaka MikiLay down your head and I'll sing you a lullaby
Back to the years of loo-li lai-lay
And I'll sing you to sleep and I'll sing you tomorrow
Bless you with love for the road that you go

May you sail far to the far fields of fortune
With diamonds and pearls at your head and your feet
And may you need never to banish misfortune
May you find kindness in all that you meet

May there always be angels to watch over you
To guide you each step of the way
To guard you and keep you safe from all harm
Loo-li, loo-li, lai-lay

May you bring love and may you bring happiness
Be loved in return to the end of your days
Now fall off to sleep, I'm not meaning to keep you...~

Sachiko shifts, uncomfortable in her dress, as Sayaka sings to her. But slowly the shifting grows less, and the settling grows more. Exhausted, overwhelmed, and emotionally devestated, the eight-year-old finds it nearly impossible to resist the beautiful song sung just for her and with such a passion.

Somewhere in the midst of it all, the shifting stills entirely, and Sayaka transitions from singing a lullaby to a melancholy child, to singing a lullaby to a sleeping child. The rest of the verses don't wake Sachiko; instead, her sleep only grows less disturbed as Sayaka sings.

When the song reaches its conclusion, Sachiko's soft breathing is regular and calm, where she lays in the bluenette's lap. Perhaps she's not brought Sachiko release from the pain of her loss, but at least she has bought her a few moments of peace. She's still not dressed for the sleeping, but sleeping she is nonetheless.
Sayaka Miki 2017-03-01 07:15:10 72288
Sayaka smiles softly, watching the sleeping girl, relieved that she finally managed to get her to fall asleep. Very carefully, she undoes her dress, not wanting her to stop breathing in the night or something, and once she's undone all the ribbons, marvelling at how she gets dressed in these beautiful yet ridiculously elaborate dresses all the time, Sayaka carefully slips her into the more simply yet way more comfy pink t-shirt.

All the while, she's fearful of even breathing, of disturbing the girl too much, as she very gently moves her from her lap onto the bed. Fortunately, Saya's bed is pretty big, and she quickly changes out of her own Puella outfit and into a set of simple yet comfy pale blue pyjamas with white piping, flopping down exhausted next to the girl.

"Good night, Sachi-chan.." she leans over to kiss her on the forehead. "I know I can never be Anshi-chan, but I hope I can at least be a big sister to you..I promise I will always protect you. And maybe one day, I can convince you that your life is still worth living." with that, she turns off the light, falling into a near-instant sleep.

Phew, what a night it's been, and she's got herself another innocent to save. Well, a heroine's work is never done, is it?
