Miku would likely begin to learn something. Being a singer was hard work. Very, very hard work. In fact, within a few days, most of the girls had already quit.

Granted, she was a hard worker as well, so she was at least doing well. And one of the other girls were sticking around. They'd also discovered something else.

Sumire was a freaking robot. She had to be. The girl NEVER turned off. There was never a time where they wouldn't see her either practicing or studying. Her books were laid out on the table all the time, during breaks where she had to drink to maintain her voice, that's where she was. The other girl had tried to talk to her then, but Sumire... while she seemed friendly enough, she didn't seem very good at small talk. In fact, she was a little sort about it.

On the up side, the girls were treated very well. Drinks were supplied, there were coaches on staff, there was food. Nothing too salty, of course, and nothing that might hurt their voices. But they were treated very well. The biggest problem was Sumire. They'd practice, but if it wasn't perfect, she refused to continue. If one note was off, if one step was wrong, if one strand of hair was out of place, they'd have to do it all over again.

Judging by some of the looks the staff were giving her often, this was a normal thing. At least she was dedicated. Of course, after a particularly grueling day, she was sitting at one of the tables, her books out in front of her. The other girl had gone home and Miku would be getting a ride back to the school with Sumire(limos were awesome). But first they were cleaning up a bit. Sumire seemed frustrated(fairly obvious by the fact she'd accidentally snapped one of her pencils in half.)

Miku's work ethic is, if anything, akin to Sumire's. Her one guilty pleasure is stargazing, but even that is only a few times a year. The rest of the time, she's either studying, reading, practicing, or composing her own music. That or, of course, attending school.

At Sumire's rehersals, Miku has been as dedicated as anyone. The exacting attitude doesn't bother her in the slightest; nor does t he gruelling pace or the constant restarts. This may be far more work than Miku's ever had to put into her music, but it's not even close to as much as she's willing to put in.

Music is everything.

When the crew have wrapped for the day and the other girl stormed off, Miku sits on the edge of the stage, still dressed in her Lydian uniform, one foot tucked under the opposite knee, with her songbook in hand. They may be done rehearsing, but apparently she isn't done practicing her own part. So she's singing, quietly to herself, memorizing and rememorizing the songs she's supposed to sing.

Sumire's frustration may be concerning, but it's also not her problem. She has her own part to play.

Sumire Tenshi was quiet for a long, long moment, staring at the problem. Finally... she got up and... "Kohinata-sempai?" she asked softly, walking up to the girl. She still called her that, despite her objections. "Could you help me with something? How is your math?" she asked softly.

Well, Sumire was known as being a bit of a genius(because why attribute success to hard work when it's easier to just say they're gifted?). But she was also quite a few years, and classes, below Miku. Things she was still learning to master Miku had probably gone over years ago.

On the other hand, Miku had likely never seen Sumire ask someone for help. Sure, she did have tutors, but they rarely, if ever, came to these sessions. And while there were other adults, she seemed a bit... distant to them. She was friendly, of course. But there was this separation between her and them. This gap.

But she honestly didn't feel that way with Miku. She saw something special in Miku. Someone who was willing to work hard and not give up. There may have been more talented girls out there, but Sumire didn't care. This girl was like her.

Miku is mid-note when Sumire calls her name. She looks up with a quiet, "Hnh?" cutting off the song. She looks genuinely surprised that the young girl is addressing her.

"Ah," she replies thoughtfully when Sumire explains what she wants. "Mathematics ... I'm okay at. It's not my best subject, but you're only in 4th grade, right? Multiplication, long division, and geometry, right? Oh, and I guess factoring. What's hte problem?"
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 09:00:48 75701
Sumire Tenshi nodded. "Ummm, it's pre-algebra," she said softly, drawing back to her math problem. She quickly explained her issue. It wasn't a complex one, thankfully. It was a word problem that was supposed to be written out in a 'find the missing number' variance. But the wording was written in a very confusing manner which... frankly, it was easy to see why a child of her age might have issues.

"Sorry," she mumbled, looking a bit dejected at her failure. "I know the answer is six, but I can't figure out how it's supposed to be six." Oh, right, she's studying, not actually doing homework. So she probably checked her answer once she was done.
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 09:22:10 75702
Miku blinks in surprise at the response. "Pre-algebra?" she asks uncertainly. Leaning forward, she reads over the problem once, twice, then makes a soft, impressed noise. "Well," she says, then reaches for Sumire's notepad. "Let me borrow your pencil and I'll show you," says the grunette.

Hastily, she rewrites the word problem in mathematical form: 42 / x = 7. "So," Miku explains. "It's worded pretty badly, but as it says, Johnny has fourty two coins, and seven people to divide the coins by. He needs to figure out how many coins to give to each friend. So that's 42 divided by X equals seven." Miku scratches down the next line: 42 = 7x. "If we multiply both sides by x, we can move x to the right. And then, we divide both sides by 7 to move that to the left." She writes down the next line: 42/7 = x. "Simplify, and solve." 6 = x.

She looks up to Sumire, then slides the paper back to her. "Make sense?"
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 09:27:05 75703
Sumire Tenshi stared at it for a few, long moments. "Wait, that's what it..." Her cheeks turned bright red. "Y-yeah. Thank you. It makes a lot more sense than how I thought I was doing it." She chuckled a little, before sighing.

She then glanced up at her, and looked towards the stage. "Are you enjoying your time here, Kohinata-sempai? Have you ever been on a stage like this before?" she asked with a small smile before pulling open her books again and going onto her next question as she talked. Nope, she never shut down.

Miku might notice that Sumire's agent was watching them as they worked, but he didn't say anything.
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 09:28:32 75704
Miku glances back at the stage, then shrugs a little. "Nothing quite this grand," she admits, "but I've put on a lot of performances. You have to, to get the scholarship I got through the Lydian program. Verone's expensive," she explains with a sigh. "But we have a really great theatre program, and that means a lot of shows and competitions; even in other cities like Hokaido. There's a lot more lights and dancing and production for my outfit than I've done before, but ... I'm enjoying it," she finally admits. "Mostly."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 09:34:47 75705
Sumire Tenshi nodded, writing down on the paper as she worked. "You shouldn't give up on it, then. You work hard. That's really the most important thing. There are a lot of really talented people who do this. But they never end up getting anywhere, because they won't put in the work. They just give up too easy."

She cocked her head to the side as she read a question, her lips moving with it, before she started writing again. "It's hard sometimes. But it's worth it. When you're on the stage and they're all calling your name and everyone thinks you're the most amazing person in the world..." she trailed off, grinning wide before shaking her head.

"If you want, when you feel more up to it, I'll talk to my agent about possibly letting you intern with us. It might mean more travel, but once you're ready, it can be there. So long as you keep working hard. It's worth it in the end!"
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 09:53:56 75706
Miku's eyes widen a bit, and she blushes as she looks away. "I... I mean. I told you," she says, looking back to Sumire, "I can't just ... give up my responsibilities for a career like this. There are people here who depend on me. Not just for school, but for ... um. Other things. Personal things."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 09:58:09 75707
Sumire Tenshi nodded as she kept writing. "I know. But you don't plan to spend every day on those responsibilities, do you?" Write write write. "You said before this was your dream, isn't it? Unless you'd already given up on it?"

She lowered her pencil and glanced up. "I can understand having to do things, first. But I can't imagine why you'd want to just give up on something if it means that much to you."
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 09:59:38 75708
"Well ... not .. not quite," Miku replies with a faint frown. "I mean, I love to sing, and to play the piano. But I don't think I want to be an idol," she explains. "I want to be a producer. Or maybe a teacher. I like to perform, but I just don't think I want to devote my whole life to being what other people fantasize about becoming. That just doesn't feel right to me. I want to be able to be me, all the time, no matter who I'm with."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:03:27 75709
Sumire Tenshi nodded as she worked. "Okay. Well... if that's what you want to be, then don't give up! I can't help you in those, though. I don't do much with teachers. In fact, most of them I've found really..." She coughed. "They're just... worrisome," she said, trying to be tactful.

"Do you like movies? I've never done much work with producers. My agent has talked about having me do a movie before, but nothing important enough has come up yet."
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 10:05:44 75710
"Mmm, well, I like to watch movies," Miku replies with a faint smile. "But I wouldn't know the first thing about producing one. Although, I guess maybe it could be fun to score one. Maybe some anime where the piece is very heartfelt and emotional; with piano accompaniment. That could be a lot of fun."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:10:24 75712
Sumire Tenshi gave a light giggle, before glancing up. "Are you sure you know what you want to be? Your choices keep changing. I figured someone like you would know exactly what she wants to be."

She cocked her head to the side, then frowned. "Or is it someone else you're doing it for, and they don't know what they want you to be?" she asked. There was an odd glimmer to her eyes when she said that.
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 10:13:31 75713
"Well," Miku replies with a frown, "I know I want to work in music. I know that I love to sing, to play the piano, to write songs, and to help others improve." She glances up at Sumire, then arches her brows at that glimmer. "I don't ... know what you mean by someone else."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:18:54 75714
Sumire Tenshi nodded. "So you want to be a music teacher? You should ask the teacher if you can be a teacher's aid, then," she said encouragingly. "You really do have a wonderful voice and I'm sure you'll make a great teacher! You explain math well," she said with a big, cheerful smile.

"Well... probably not, then. It's not important. But if that's what you want to do, you should work your hardest to do it! I hope being one of my backups helps you, too!"
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 10:20:41 75715
"It's teaching me a lot about how much work it is to do your job," Miku tells Sumire with a faint nod of her head. "I'm still not entirely sure if I really want to be a teacher, but ... I've still got another two years of high school to decide what college I want to go to. I'll figure it out."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:26:59 75716
Sumire Tenshi nodded rapidly. 'Oh, it really ,really is! But..." She glanced off to the side. "It really is. All of my fans are just so nice. And I'm so grateful for all the opportunities they've given me to pursue my dream. So... I have to always make sure to work extra hard to be worthy."

She gave that small, innocent smile that she had mastered over the years.
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 10:30:01 75717
Miku rubs her chin a little, then smiles and reaches up to fondly pat Sumire on the head. "Yeah," she says quietly, "yeah, you do work very hard. I know your fans appreciate it. If Hibiki were here, she'd be so excited to meet you. She buys your albums every day they come out, and comes home to squeal at me about how absolutely amazing they are."
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:36:08 75718
Sumire Tenshi blinked a few times, cocking her head to the side. "Really? Hee hee. Reiko-chan does the same thing. She was so happy to see me too. I--"

"Tenshi-chan?" her agent said, cutting her off. She glanced up and smiled. "Yes?" "I just got off the phone with your parents. They won't be home tonight. We're about ready to pack up, did you want to get anything to eat on the way home?"

There was a slight twitch to her eye. Just for a second. "Oh, not at all. I actually have been meaning to use up the spinach in the fridge, I think I'll make a soup." She cooks, she cleans, she sings on stage! She's the Tenshi! Either way, she begins to pack up her books. "I guess it's time for us to get ready, isn't it?" A lot of the energy from her voice was just... gone now. She sounded softer, less energized.
Miku Kohinata 2017-05-03 10:37:52 75719
"Mmm," Miku agrees quietly, watching the girl's sudden lethargy with a bit of sadness. "But the sooner we get home and to sleep, the sooner we can face tomorrow," she replies quietly. Sliding off the stage, Miku grabs her bookbag and places her song book in it. "We'll just have to do our best, Tenshi-chan. Right?"
Sumire Tenshi 2017-05-03 10:40:14 75720
Sumire Tenshi nodded. "Right. Of course. Tomorrow is fencing practice. Mmmm..." she mumbled, before grabbing her backs and now, once again, all ready to go! And once again... limo rides were awesome.
