A Small Issue

Sora and Kunzite discuss the book she's currently working with. Or trying to. It isn't behaving. (Unfinished scene)

The phone number that Kunzite had given Sora actually worked. And when she asked him to meet, he noted that technically, the place where he lives has an open invitation --

-- but there were a number of reasons that might be less advisable for a quiet meeting. Like the multiple housemates.

Therefore he suggested a particularly quiet corner of a local park. (Unstated: while it is one that would be suspiciously good for mugging people for their energy, for some reason, it's not one that to his knowledge a certain Shadow Witch ever targeted.)

He may, perhaps, have arrived half an hour early. Which very likely puts a white-haired, casually-dressed college student paying half-attention to a textbook at the site before Sora arrives.

Sora has brought a book with her, it's wrapped in silver chains and it's leaking little drips of liquid shadow, so all in all this is likely to be forebodinh. She stops when she notices him and his textbook, but she closes in and waves, "Takeba-san." She greets, sitting down near him with the book in her lap. "I hope I'm not keeping you from anything important?"
Kunzite 2017-05-24 18:55:24 77048
If he picked up on her approach, he's polite enough not to admit it till she greets him; then he lifts his head and nods to her, marking his place with a slip of paper and closing the book. "Hisakata-san. Not at all. I've done this year before; I needed to start over for a change of schools, that's all. Good afternoon. Are you doing well?"
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 18:57:53 77049
"I'm doing fine, I've just got a small issue." She pats the book on her lap, to indicate that it's related to that. "I thought I needed some external perspectives, from someone who isn't going to overreact." She explains, without going into any detail whatsoever just yet, "I hope you don't mind?"
Kunzite 2017-05-24 18:58:58 77050
"Not at all. Though, of course, my perspectives may or may not be colored in a way useful to you." The possibility of Kazuo or anyone else having a really unbiased perspective is dismissed out of hand, too unlikely even to need accounting for.
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 19:04:32 77051
Fortunately, Sora is not looking for an unbiased perspective, just one that isn't going to leap to useless conclusions. "This is the Boreal Tome, sister to the Umbral Tome." She explains to begin with, "It was meant to constrain the power of the Umbral Tome, but the Umbral Tome's managed to inflict a festering wound. Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to help it without undoing the seal, which is all that stops it from sending lethal waves to everything in its vicinity." She explains.
Kunzite 2017-05-24 19:08:12 77052
"I recall the library," Kazuo agrees. "Its perceptions, if we may attribute those to a book, appeared to be warped by the Umbral Tome's influence. The obvious next questions, which you may well already have answered for yourself, would seem to be 'what is the nature of the wound?', 'what is the nature of the seal?', and 'is it possible either to avoid those lethal waves being unleashed, or to contain or redirect them temporarily?'"
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 19:11:33 77053
"The easiest part is the nature of the seal. It's sealed by a chain of blessed silver, wrapped tightly to restrict its movements." Sora explains, the seal is made using her own cleverness, after all. "The wound I'm still working on, and I'm afraid I can't get a proper look without at least partially undoing the seal, and I don't know if we could avoid those thins if I do."
Kunzite 2017-05-24 19:18:26 77054
Kazuo inclines his head to Sora, gravely. "One question, then, would be finding a place in which it might be possible to avoid collateral damage. There are certain mages - Devices users - who can create what they call barriers, which are ... pocket worlds of a sort, spaces that resemble the world around them without permitting that actual world and the innocents in it to be damaged. That seems the most likely possibility. The question of protecting you and the Device user and any others with you from the wind, and of sealing the tome again if need be, remains. For that - I don't know who might control wind. Miss White is not a presently advisable option; among a number of other reasons, some of which would contaminate your results, she has been hunting Device users and they are unlikely to cooperate with her. Sailor Jupiter has an affinity with storms, but not wind directly. My own shields could blunt and redirect it to a degree, but I believe you're already aware that they're less effective against kinetic energy."
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 19:22:23 77055
"Why would Miss White do such a thing?" Sora seems genuinely confused, perhaps her early interactions with WPS has left her biased, or perhaps it's simply a lack of familiarity with the person. The other things, she merely nods along, commenting only on the barrier thing, "That does sound like it would be useful. If not Miss White, can you recommend someone else?"
Kunzite 2017-05-24 19:29:21 77057
There's a brief shake of Kazuo's head. "It's not something that's mine to talk about. Other than to say I believe that she is partially incorrect, and partially chasing a potentially correct idea in one of the more self-defeating ways possible." He shrugs one shoulder, then says, "The only other one I know with wind powers directly is Cure Gull, but I'm not certain whether she can keep up against a sustained assault. There are undoubtedly others I don't know of. I can ask around if you like."
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 19:47:59 77058
"Well that doesn't tell me anything." Sora complains, of course she knows that was kind of the point of that phrasing, and doesn't press the point, instead going on to the other topic. "Please do ask around, and please do ask Cure Gull." She requests, seeming to have no better ideas than that, "And maybe ask around for a device user, too? Miss White is only one of two I know, and the other one is even more likely to drive people away."
Kunzite 2017-05-24 19:50:41 77059
"I've run across a handful," Kazuo says mildly. "But some of them are ... very new." One way or another. Either just getting used to things, or, well.

Very short so far. Time will take care of that part.

"I wouldn't recommend Riventon either, no. The tome might not be happy to have that much dark energy around. We'll see who we can find."
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 19:55:59 77060
"If they can do the barrier thing, at worst they'll be at as much rusk as I will be, wouldn't they?" Sora suggests about the newness of some of the candidates, glossing entirely over the mention of Riventon, though the look on her face makes it clear that Kazuo guessed right. "Another issue. It's not one that was of much concern before, because the Umbral Tome gave me the strength to deal with that, but..." She pauses, "There's others after these books."
Kunzite 2017-05-24 19:59:18 77061
"It's the possibility of adverse reactions," Kazuo says, but he doesn't sound particularly concerned; willing to gloss over that as she is over Riventon. Not that there seemed to be any particular animosity there, either. Oddly enough.

The mention of others after the books makes his eyebrows twitch upward. "But not after them enough to have raided the library. Then again, perhaps they hadn't identified the location. Now, I take it, is different. In which case opening the seal..."
Sora Hisakata 2017-05-24 20:03:25 77062
"May attract their attention." Sora finishes Kazuo's sentence, with a faintly grim tone in her voice. "I hope they won't, but it's better to be safe than sorry, so I would like some people on hand to help me in case that turns out to be a genuine issue." She sighs, "This is all so rough."
Kunzite 2017-05-24 20:05:44 77063
"The more people in the area when the seal is opened, the more difficult it will be to protect them from the results of opening it." Kazuo exhales. "Still. What do you know about the people pursuing the book? Particularly, do you know whether they know about or use the Dusk Zone in any way?"
