I Wouldn't Handle It Better

Ikiko checks in on what's making Lacrima upset. No, Ikiko did not turn Alexis into a werewolf.

Lacrima had noted that Ikiko wanted to talk to her about something specific it sounded like so, Lacrima picked a silent spot that was not a park. It was the bench right outside Hanasaki flowers. She was waiting patiently, her heard in that same downward turn she mostly kept at Ariel's party earlier in the game.

There were thoughts sort of shifting through her head. Who organized the party. What did Ikiko want to talk about? Who would want her worthless self as family? She grated her teeth together just a bit in frustration.

Ikiko Hisakata arrives, carrying a small bag with a familiar scent: donuts from Kaoru! As she sits down, she opens the bag and offers Lacrima first pick of the two donuts inside.

"You looked like something was upsetting you," Ikiko finally says. "Would you feel better if you talked about it with me?"

Lacrima takes one. She just chooses randomly. She doesn't care. She starts eating it as she listens to Ikiko answer her question. "I..."

"Rashmi-chan. And I. Spoke to my brother about. Me being a vampire. Because I wanted to repair that relationship. Because he remembers that I attacked him. He was. The first victim. He walked in to wake me up the first day I woke like this." she says.

"He rejected me. It.. it hurt bad. But I still. I still had. I dunno. If you'd call it hope. Not. From me but. I didn't. Give up..."

"Then that girl.. that.. that blind girl who walked in shortly after I did. She showed me... the cords of fate. That bind everyone together and... and the ones between me and my family were so weak.... the one to my brother is nearly broken." she says quietly.

"S--she said that. It wasn't my destiny to be with them! That. That it's /EASY/ to find a new family! So---SO..."

"/EASY!/" she yells out, catching the attention of a person walking a dog on the other side of the road as she nerely blins, then blushes herself into quiet and looking back down at the ground.

"I..I spent two years! Wasting my time! Hoping things could be okay again! What's the point!? I..I'm so sick. Of people telling me that. Things are easy. Like. Like....!" she seethes a bit. She can't even finish the sentence.

Ikiko nibbles on her donut as Lacrima tells her story. There's a slight frown at the explanation of the cords of fate, but the brown-haired girl doesn't say anything until afterwards.

When the seething peters out into frustrated silence, Ikiko leans over and gives Lacrima a one-armed side-hug. "Nothing can replace the family you grew up with," she murmurs. "Even if you go by the saying 'friends are the family you choose', there's still a place in your heart for your actual relatives."

Lacrima shifts a bit uncomfortably. "I don't know what to do anymore." she says quietly. "The last time I was this frustrated. It was early on in what I was." she says gently. She gently bites her lip. "I wish I knew it was Ariel's birthday. I'd had wanted to get her. Something. I felt stupid." she says softly.

"You said you had questions for me or ... something like that? Sorry. I forget. My mind hasn't been really focused since.. the other day." she says quietly. "I've been really doing nothing but. Crying. Really." she mutters.

"Other than Rashmi, I'm not sure anybody knew it was Ariel's birthday," Ikiko points out. "Which is why nobody brought any gifts. The best any of us will be able to do is belated gifts, so don't beat yourself up over it."

She gives Lacrima another hug. "Well, concern about what had you upset was the big thing," the sometimes-wolfgirl admits. "Although I did have a 'is this person talking about who I think they're talking about?' moment earlier in the week. I was in the park, and I happened to meet and talk with a guy named Alexis Raskoph...?"

Not a tone of accusation; rather, she sounds more curious than anything else.

Lacrima makes this long suffering face the moment Ikiko says 'Alexis Raskoph' and she only has one reply.

"What did the idiot do this time?" she asks. "You didn't turn him into a werewolf. Did you?" she asks, hesitantly.

Ikiko Hisakata giggles. "No, he wasn't that badly injured," she reassures Lacrima. "Besides, I'm pretty sure I'm diluted enough that my bite isn't infectious, anyway."

She shakes her head. "From what the strays I was feeding could tell, he had been fighting a color gang. Bruised and slightly bleeding, but apparently in good enough shape that he didn't think he needed to go to a clinic." Whether or not he actually needed to go to one is left unspoken.

"Still, the topic of magic came up when a different stray came by and asked to be petted, and Alex mentioned that he had been a vampire for a while due to someone saving his life from a youma attack."

Ikiko shrugs. "He didn't mention names, but vampires that would try to save lives aren't exactly common," she notes pointedly.

Lacrima sighs. "A monster attacked us a while ago. He was an idiot and didn't listen so he almost died so I... turned... him..." she mutters. "I didn't have a choice. Or much of one. Between... loose my friend. or. don't loose him." she says quietly.

"Mercury was able to fix him." she says. "Apparently. This makes me really useful to her. I can. Save people by turning them and she can fix them." she rolls her eyes. "Meh."

"Sorry I didn't. Tell you I could do that. I don't like discussing it. For obvious reasons." she says lightly.

"But. Turning is weird. I imbue the person. They. become like me. But not completely. More like. Riventon-sama. Than. 'What I am'. A human still. but. not... it's odd." she says.

Another shrug. "Can't say I blame you for keeping it quiet," Ikiko admits. "It's not a bad we-are-out-of-options backup, but it's not exactly something I'd base an initial plan on."

Her expression grows thoughtful at Lacrima's description of turning. "Sounds kinda similar to how lycanthropy works," she muses. "Or at least, it has enough parallels to seem that way. Crammed souls instead of human/dark energy hybrids, but definitely still based on a form of infusion."

Lacrima sighs and nods. "I just don't want people think I'm going to turn them into a vampire out of the blue." she says softly. She sighs a bit and looks back down. She's finished her donut and shifts. "Ariel invited me over to her place where she lives-- well. Her mothers live." she says.

"A dream place. It's nice there." she says.

She shifts against. "Brother told me I was dead to him. That I died. and I just..."

"I almost laughed. Because. Well. Vampire... it's true. I did. That's... that's what /undead/ is..." she mutters.

That last bit gets Ikiko to crack a small smile. "Sometimes the unwitting truths are the funniest," she agrees. "But, honestly, if I was in your place..."

She sighs. "If my family disowned me, I'm not sure I'd handle it any better than you," the sometimes-wolfgirl admits. "I mean, I love them, and I'd want to keep them safe and happy... but if they kicked me out for being Tsukiko? I'd be heartbroken."
