The night is young, with the sun just teetering on the horizon, so there isn't that much business at the Kaoru's. But the night is also warm and clear and otherwise beautiful so there are still enough people milling about for the baker to keep his stand open for just a little while longer, as the smell of freshly baked donuts temps people into a delicious late afternoon snack.

Watching from behind a tall trashcan is Lamya, crouched and peering with intent as she spies on the people. Red eyes watch like a hawk as people exchange small pieces of paper in return for this strange, round bit of bread. Curious. She will need to get her hands on some of those papers, for she hungers for this.... donut.
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 02:01:30 80262
Near the stand itself, a small fortress of books has been built to stand sentinel over Rashmi, as she does her homework. Within the literary redoubt, a bottle of bright pinky-red Ramune stands watch over a small stack of frosted, heart-centered donuts. Pausing in the copying of vital -- for her, at least -- information, she lifts the Ramune to her lips... and pauses upon seeing a girl about her age, hiding behind the trashcans nearby. Not just hiding, but giving off every indicator that if she had a tail, it would be twitching like a cat on the hunt.

Blinking owlishly for a moment, she sets her bottle down, and clears her throat. "...Excuse me? Are you waiting for someone?"
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 02:09:04 80265
Sora is also doing her homework here, near Rashmi though not really co-operating. The girl used to be somewhat isolated from her class, only really interacting with classmates when getting paid for tutoring, and though she's been trying to be more social ever after she got really sick for a few months, this behavior has been hard to shake. Trying does not lead to succeeding, after all.

Still, the former magical girl also picks up on the girl that behaves strangely, "Huh." She glances towards Rashmi, "I don't think people generally hide among the garbage when waiting for someone, Terios-san."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 02:18:14 80266
"WAUGH!" Lamya lets out a frightened shriek as she's spoken to! Reflexively her mouth hinges open and stream of acid spits out in a stream which covers the upper half of the schoolgirl. The liquid is... sticky, to say the least. It hisses and eats away at any metal and clothing that it touches, but oddly, the only thing it seems to do against actual living skin is to give it a slight burning sensation and, otherwise, just feel oogy.

Recovering from the itnitial surprise, Lamya leaps back and points an accusing finger at Rashmi. "H-How did you see through my glamor! No mere mortal should have noticed my presence!" Indeed, it was kind of odd that none of the regular people payed her any attention.
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 02:25:41 80270
Whatever puzzled, half-blase reaction Rashmi might have given is cut off as clothes-eating, oogy-making spit-slime douses her facefirst. "AUGH!" she cries, crossing her arms over her chest and leaping for the cover of some nearby bushes. "YOU BETTER NOT HAVE GOTTEN ANY OF THAT ON MY BOOKS!"

Once under the modesty-preserving safety of cover, she seens to start having a hushed conversation with.... her phone? Whatever is answering her sounds like a custom-programmed Siri, at any rate, and while the words may not be audible -- or intelligible, as it's in brokenish English -- it does sound like she's talking to a wise elder.

Then the bushes start to glow faintly, as if someone had lit a yellow-orange glowstick inside.
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 02:52:46 80274
Sora seems a bit surprised and pulls her books back when that happens, they're important. Then she looks towards Rashmi, "Are you alright?" Deciding it's clear enough that Rashmi is, Sora gets up and starts to walk over there, glancing aside to what Rashmi is up to with the weird language thing once, "Well I'm no mere mortal then, clearly. Or perhaps you underestimate us mere mortals."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 02:56:33 80275
Lamya's finger swivels to point accusingly at Sora. "Then are you one of these Princesses I've heard about!" Her tone is accusitory with, perhaps, an undertone of hopefulnes. "I have heard that this city is overrun with them!"
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 03:00:50 80276
"Who are you?" Rashmi blurts, popping back up from the bushes with a stern glare on her face.

And if she's now wearing a slightly more elaborate version of her school uniform, well... perhaps she keeps a spare in her bookbag?

So what if the bookbag is next to her set, far out of reach. Ignore these things.

"What d'you want a Princess for and what was that stuff and why did you spit it on me."
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 03:02:53 80277
"Some kind of mucus." Sora suggests in answer to Rashmi, "And probably because she thought you look tasty or scary." This all said entirely in deadpan, and then Sora shakes her head at Lamya, "Nope, not a princess, nor a queen, nor a legendary warrior, nor even a witch. Just a member of a long line of curse hunters, and not even a particularly good one."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 03:08:42 80279
Lamya's finger lowers so she can place her hands on her hips, stance wide and proud. "I am Lamya, Great Wurm of Silene Lake!" Like people are supposed to recognize that. "Why, I attacked you with the Mighty Breath of Lamya! You should know better than to startle a Great Wurm like me. You are lucky to have survived my breath." Sora, however, catches her attention. She walkes up to her, "Curse... hunter? You hunt curses? What fortune! I so happen to be under a curse, so I require your aid."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 03:11:23 80280
"Will you keep it down?" Rashmi hisses, tugging her way free of the bushes, with an ornate, armored, and jeweled tome tucked under one arm about the size of a dictionary. "People are only able to ignore so much, and you really don't want to attract that kind of attention! What were you even hiding for anyway?" Looking to Sora, Rashmi looks like she's going to ask a question, but pauses, thinking better of it.
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 03:16:07 80281
"You can file a request for curse hunting services at" And Sora lists off an anonymous PO box, "I don't do independent work anymore." Otherwise she's not too worried about Lamya's loud statements, and glances to Rashmi, "Her glamour is making it so most people aren't noticing her, only people with magical potential." She's keeping her tone level. "Which makes me curious, Terios-san."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 03:26:37 80282
"Oh ho ho ho ho!" laughs Lamya. "Your friend is smart," she says to Rashmi, and waves a hand towards the people who are, indeed, not really paying them any attention. "To them, we are but regular girls having a regular discussion about whatever girls talk about." As for why she was hiding she explains, "I was studying this strange hut and the delicious smells that was coming from it. My glamor may be strong, but if I were to merely knock it over and devour the contents it would break the spell and cause me undue attention." She squints uncertainly at Sora. "Do you have this... Peeooh box on you?"
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 03:30:00 80283
"Oh I'm a Device User," Rashmi says, waving the hand not supporting the book neglegintly. "It's not like it's any big secret around the community, I just don't advertise it."

Pausing, she glances at what Lamya was staring at, and tilts her head, one eyebrow rising. "...It's a food truck," she says diffidently. "The guy there makes donuts and sells them. They're actually pretty good, and if you didn't get any glop on them I have a couple you could have, if you want."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 03:36:40 80285
Lamya's eyes narrow. "Dough.... nut?" One can almost see that the dragoness is imagining a lump of uncooked dough with a single unshelled walnut stuck in the top. Still. That smell though. It's divine. "Yes. I will try this 'doughnut'"
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 03:38:20 80286
"You put your request in writing, then seal this writing inside an envelope, then write the details on the envelope, and then go to the post office and pay them to get the request delivered." Sora explains in slow, measured tones, to Lamya. Then towards Rashmi, "I don't really have much in the way of magic personally, but I know a fair number of people who do."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 03:44:15 80287
Rashmi Terios bobs her head at Sora, then smiles briefly at Lamya, trotting back over to her study-fortress -- and breathing a deep, relieved sigh to see the books undamaged -- and picks up one of the stack. "Basically you take a special kind of dough, fry it in oil, and put glaze on top. Here; this one's got strawberry icing." And what she hands over to Lamya is, indeed, a cake-like circle with a heart cut out of the middle. "You're.... not from this world, are you? Like, you have no idea how things work around here?"
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 03:49:43 80289
"Of course I'm from this world," Lamya says huffily, taking the donut and sniffing at it cautiously. She turns it around in her hand and even looks through the hole at one point before stuffing the entirety of it in her mouth. "Iff waf a aang fime ago," she mumbles around the donut. Once the taste hits her eyes light up in delight. "Another!" she demands, before turning her attention to Sorah. "That seems like an awful lot of work. Why would I do... all that... when you are standing right there?"
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-10 03:53:03 80290
"Because I'm not very strong and I don't handle payments, so it's important to go through proper channels." And also, to be frank, because Sora isn't going to take requests for help from random magical people without at least some attempt at vetting the whole thing. She's learned that lesson, "My guess is she got cursed by someone to be an idiot, Terios-san, that explains everything."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-10 03:56:07 80291
"Iff waf... 'It was a long time ago?'" Rashmi murmurs, translating Lamya's sudden dip into Foodmouthinese. "So wait like... No, Hisakata-san, I think she's from the past. Which... hoooo boy." Lifting her spectacles, Rashmi rubs at the bridge of her nose. "...This is going to be a headache."

Loosing a sigh, she gestures toward her bench. "C'mon, let's sit down, and you can tell us what you're doing here, um... Lamya-san? I've got another donut there you can have."

What sacrifices we make to keep the peace...
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-10 04:01:42 80292
Indeed, Rashmi knows how to bargain well with dragons; appeal to their greed. Right now, to Lamya, a donut is worth more than it's weight in gold. She walks past Sora, giving her a dirty look for calling her an idiot, before sitting down. "If you mean what I am doing here I am merely looking for something to eat," she explains. "This city doesn't have very many sheep or cows I can snack on, after all."

She looks at Rashmi expectantly before continuing, and only speaks again after she's devoured another donut. "If you mean why am I heere in this city then I am looking for the princess... or rather, the ancestor of one, that can lift the curse I have been placed under."
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-13 22:10:31 80395
Sora shrugs a little, "There's lots of princesses and the like here. Good luck finding the one you need." She doesn't really seem impressed or all that much interested in helping Lamya, and does little to hide her contempt. "If you want to have something to eat you'll have to convince others to give it to you, the best way to do so is to pay them money. To get money you'll need a job. It's that simple." She glances towards Rashmi, "Being from the past doesn't change the way money works, unless she's from the prehistory. Pretty sure they didn't have princesses back then."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-13 22:16:31 80396
"Yeah but if she's talking snacking of sheep and cows..." Rashmi trails off, massaging the bridge of her nose for awhile, then replaces her spectacles. "All right, um... Lamya-san. The world's changed a lot since... whenever you were from. Money's mostly paper now, when it's in your hands at all. Getting food to eat without stealing is going to be... kind of tricky, if you don't have money, and getting money's going to be trickier if you don't have a job... and you look too young to get more than part-time work at best, honestly."
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-13 22:27:58 80397
The only kind of response Sora gets from the dragon is a haughty harrumph. "Oh, so thats what those papers were," Lamya says to Rashmi. "I take it this is some form of currency, too?" She rummages through a pocket in her skirt and pulls out a credit card that looks like it's been.... chewed. "Though I don't understand how it works. Usually one barters by the exchange of goods, but many people have these... strange things.. and they hand them to the shopkeeper who then hands them back." She eyes the plastic card with some amount of frustration before just letting it fall to the ground with a sigh. "I tried using this one," she confesses, "But the shopkeeper said that it had been stolen. I don't know how he knew. Perhaps magic?"

When Rashmi mentions how young she looks, Lamya just laughs. "Oh, this? This just seemed the most defenseless thing I could look like," she admits. There's a sound like the popping of water balloon and a puff of smoke *POOF* and suddenly Lamya has been replaced by a woman in her mid twenties, stunningly beautiful veeeeery well endowed and wearing an European period dress that does little to hide it. She leans closer to Rashmi to give her a very good look and says, in a sultry voice that nearly purrs, "Is this any better?"
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-13 22:36:54 80398
Sora rolls her eyes, "The cards contain a special code that can let a machine know which card it is, and communicate with the bank which issued it. It's not the card that is important, it's the bank account which matches it. If the bank knows the card is stolen, the card won't work anymore." She pauses, "The bank holds onto people's money and keeps track of the money they spend using one of these cards. It's more convenient."

Then the stranger changes her form, and Sora sighs, "So you're a shapechanger? Let me guess, you're evil and trying to help you just means unleashing yet another villain on Tokyo." She glances towards Rashmi, "Terios-san, we probably should just leave her to her own devices."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-13 22:50:25 80399
"...My head hurts," Rashmi says in reply, closing her eyes for a moment. "Look just... Have my last donut, try not to cause any crimes until I see you again, Lamya-san, and I should probably talk to some people about you. THey probably don't know who you're looking for, but they'll be better at finding out where to start than I am. I just.... ow. Does this happen often, Hisakata-san?"
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-13 23:31:22 80400
The eyeroll that Lamya gives Sora conveys her contempt at being constantly called 'evil.' "Dragons are not evil," she says huffily. "And I am not a shapechanger! I am born to a long line of proud and noble dragons who study the mystic arts! It's how I am able to speak this..." she pauses and waves a hand in the air in distaste "... strange language you speak instead of Latin."

Then Rashmi distracts her with the offer of the last donut. "OOH!" she squeals in delight, the loss of concentration making her go *poof* back into a schoolgirl. "Dough-nut!" When Rashmi commands her to be good there's a brief look of disappointment, which she quickly hides. "I have no idea what constitutes a crime in this city," she admits. "But I swear to you that no 'evil' will come from me."

"Especially if there's more dough-nuts."
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-13 23:47:00 80402
"I didn't say dragons were evil, I said you give off all the warning signs of being evil. There's a difference." Sora rolls her eyes at Lamya, "But hey, if you want to prove me wrong, I encourage you to. I'd rather be proven wrong than right in this, but I have to say, making your non-evil contingent on being given snacks is kind of a warning sign to me." Sora shrugs, and then glances to Rashmi, "There's plenty villains, some aren't around anymore, but there's plenty still around. This kind of thing specifically? Not as common as villains in general, but more common than I'd like."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-13 23:51:54 80403
Rashmi glances at Sora, and shrugs helplessly. "Well," she says to Lamya, "I'm pretty sure there aren't any donuts in prison, so... yeah." Sighing, the redhead tucks a lock of hair behind one ear. "Okay, so... I guess I can see if someone connected to Virtue can dig up anything related to a princess in, um..." Pausing, she eyes Lamya's 'dress,' arcing an eyebrow. "...Unno, anywhere from Roman times to the Holy Roman Empire. A thousand years is a wide enough net, right...?"
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-14 00:06:22 80404
The dragon girl mostly ignores Sora, as she licks frosting off her fingers. "What year is it?" Lamya asks, seeing an opportunity come along to get more information, "Assuming that you still use Caesar's calendar?"
Sora Hisakata 2017-07-14 00:22:01 80407
Sora shrugs and heads back towards her homework, if the crazy dragon girl wants to ignore her, she'll just go back to doing stuff that's actually important to her, personally. There's only one parting shot, "We never used it, but we use the Gregorian one which is based upon it, and converting between the two isn't exactly hard."
Rashmi Terios 2017-07-14 00:26:39 80409
"Yeah hang on a second," Rashmi says, digging in her bookbag and extracting her smartphone. Poking at a few icons, then tapping out a short search phrase, she summons up the information. "...So okay, the Julian calendar was swapped over for the Gregorian one about four hundred forty years ago, give or take... According to the Julian calendar it'd be 2770." lipping the phone into a pocket, she looks after Sora. "Hey Hisakata-chan, d'you want to do a study group some time?"
Dragon Lamya 2017-07-14 00:35:58 80410
Lamya eyes go wide at the mention of what year it is. "That's.... that's.... over two thousand years!" There a moment of candor when her guards drop at this realization, her despair at her situation etched so clearly on her face. She stands suddenly. "I.... have to go. Somewhere. And think." There's that popping sound again, and the puff of mist, and where she was is this tiny little dragon frog thing about the size of a cat, which unfurls its wings and lifts off into the night.
