Two Worlds at Once, and Failing

Takashi takes Lacrima to visit ... well. Maybe the Crone is someone. Maybe she's just something the Dusk Zone uses to talk through. Either way, this chat can't possibly have any terrible consequences, can it?

Takashi Agera walked through the strange landscape, marveling to himself at how it was both familiar and alien at the same time, how he felt like he belonged here even though it was decidedly also wierd to him. He'd been in a lot of situations like this recently - feeling like he was both in the right and wrong place, doing the right but wrong thing - it was safe to say he felt a little bit off kilter. And that was the reason he found himself making the slow trek up the mountainside, in the twisted landscape of the Dusk Zone. The place moved and shifted and it was rare that this particular topography would be so close, and he had need of one of its residents.

But he wasn't alone, and as they made the trek, he turned to look over his shoulder at Lacrima, his traveling companion for the time being. "Don't try to fly or anything, it doesn't go well." He warns, pointing up to the sky to indicate the clouds - that weren't clouds, but resting, floating curled up crow-like monster birds, watching them with red eyes just visible in the shadows. "Gotta do this the hard way or it gets more difficult."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 01:07:46 81112
Lacrima had henshined some point before traveling with Takashi. Not the pretty mundane dress, it was the dress with the more sharper adornments. The one that appeared when she transformed. She walked along without issue, she was used to the Dusk Zone, though this part was especially more awful than the regular weather or environment.

There were clouds in the sky. Wait no clouds. Something else as Takashi pointed out. She frowned. She'd keep to light footed hopping if it came to it.

"What are we doing all the way out here for, anyways, Riven-sama?" she asked softly. Was there something here? Someone? Who knew. She just kept walking behind, making sure nothing crept up from behind to attack them.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 01:19:46 81113
Takashi turns to look at Lacrima. "We're going to see the Crone." He stops and decides he needs to elucidate a bit. "She's an old inhabitant of this world. As far as I can figure, been around longer than we've really known about it. I've seen her in person a couple of times and caught her watching more than that."

"You might've noticed it too, but maybe not. Her presence is really dim, you have to be focusing to feel it - otherwise she just seems like part of the Dusk Zone itself. As much a part of it as the black sun up there, and a creation of shadows too."

"My mother's research team talks about her too. I think she may be one of the manifestations of the Zone's will, or maybe she's just some human that got stuck here eons ago, I'm not sure. But she's... like a wise woman. She can see things others can't, times others can't. I have some questions. You probably do too."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 01:32:07 81114
Lacrima blinks. "I've never read your mother's research. But if you let me, I'd like to." she says as she purses her lips. "I've never encountered anyone like that. At least anyone I'd call a crone. I see a lot of things. But if she's intelligent. She may not have let on to me. Perhaps I will find out tonight." she says as she follows.

She purses her lips. Could a human survive that long? Maybe mutated. Misshapen. But would you even be human then? She could be a manifestation. But that means a lot of metaphors and non-answers that she usually expects from beings.

"She chooses a dangerous place to live." she mutters.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 01:46:24 81115
Takashi reaches into the pack he's slung over a shoulder and pulls out two of the six Duskfruit inside the pack - one for Lacrima, one for himself. The rest stay in the pack for the Crone. Before responding to Lacrima, he bites into it - the fruit fizzing as the strange jelly-like liquid that filled it found the air.

"I'm sure there are times I've missed her watching me, too. You're also more... naturally talented than trained which might make it hard to seperate her from the background of the Zone itself. Her energy is almost the same."

Takashi sidestepped a shifting blade-like rock that slithered down the mountain, like a snake. "Seeing her in person is wierd. She kinda gives off this grandmotherly vibe to me, but I think that's just my Dark Energy pulling on it."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 02:01:33 81116
Lacrima purses her lips. A grandmotherly vibe? She wonders if she'd feel that way too. She has no idea. But that'd be nice wouldn't. Dusk Zone grandma? She takes a bite of the duskfruit. "Thanks." she says after it fizzles into the bite. She hops a moment over that same blade like rock that she has to double check to make sure it actually /wasn't/ a snake and not just a rock. She frowns a bit.

She purses her lips. She makes a few hypothesis in her head about what Takashi says. Is it just the dark energy pulling? Or is it what the crone wants you to think? Or maybe that's just what she is in the Dusk Zone.

"I wonder what she's thinking when she watches you or me." she says.

"'Get out my place.'" she says. "'Or I want to know more...'". She mutters.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 02:24:26 81117
Takashi shrugs. "She doesn't seem hostile to me. I bet she won't be to you. We're like... natives of this place. Or naturalized citizens, at least. So whatever her connection to it is, we should be close to her. She gave me some advice once and... it was right." He doesn't go further into that.

"We're almost there so you should think about a couple questions you want answered. Last time she told me the more questions you ask in a short time the less accurate she can be, so to keep it to like.. one or two."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 02:37:06 81118
Lacrima purses her lips. She has a few questions yes. She has many actually. But only two? She frowns. Maybe another visit in the future somewhere else. "Oh, you've met with her before?" she asks with a series of blinks. Now that was unexpected. She follows along as she looks up ahead. Questions... nrg. Which ones are more important.

She doesn't know.

She's finished her duskfruit,

She also kind of nervously begins patting down her dress. It's immaculate. It's magic of course, but well. Nervous is still a thing she can VERY much feel.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 02:44:39 81119
Takashi looks up and breathes out. "Phew, I thought after all this buildup I was gonna have to sheepishly explain we couldn't see her today." He points up ahead to the ridge, where if one squints - and looks with magical senses and just eyes - the outline of a small hut shimmers. "You can't see it if she doesn't want you to see her, as far as I know. Kinda stereotypically wise-woman, but I don't think we're the stereotypical participants in the hero's journey."

"I've met with her twice before. I didn't listen as well as I should've, or perhaps... I didn't hear what I wanted." he says, shrugging. "But she /was/ right."

Up ahead the shadows seem to ebb and flow, a pathway up to the door of the house, and Takashi takes the pack off his shoulder and knocks on the door - which opens to an empty-looking house with bare walls and shelves, and a single round table. But all around the presence of some Dusk being is heavy like a wool blanket. Takashi makes a slight bow and then with an exaggerated arm gesture points Lacrima in first.
Lacrima 2017-08-04 03:02:49 81120
Lacrima can see the shape of the hit. She blinks and looks to Takashi but doesn't say anything as she follows along to the ... empty looking hut. She enters and looks around. There's nothing here. She expected something like a witches hut. It's like that bit there's nothing there. Just this heavy prescene as she turns around to face Takashi and motion him in. She assumes she was sent in first as a precaution. Probably not because of 'ladies first'.

She doesn't often think in such terms when she's goal minded.

"Hello....?" she calls softly out into the hut, as she grabs at the sides of her skirt a moment as she purses her lips.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 03:18:06 81121
In truth, it was 'Ladies' first - he doesn't consider the Crone to be a threat - or at least, he figures he'd have warning if she was. Instead, he moves forward as the door shuts - and suddenly the hut is no longer empty, and it's much bigger than it appeared at first glance - there's a hallway that seems to extend into forever, and the shelves fill with little knicknacks - although they all absolutely have a very Dark Energy/Dusk Zone tint to them with spines and strange faces. There are now two chairs - the three, and the shadows of the room seem to all converge on the third chair, sitting opposite the ones intended for Takashi and Lacrima - until they take on a vaguely humanoid form, although distorted as like watching scrambled cable.

"Oh, it's the Vampire and the Lost Child come to see me." The voice is quiet, whispering, nonthreatening - but there's still an odd distinct power in it, and both Takashi and Lacrima are aware it'd be frightening so easily."

"You've brought the ingredients..." and Takashi's pack is swallowed up by shadows and vanishes - only to return empty, and the shapes on the wall seem to now include the various things he'd put inside. "...that's good."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 03:35:12 81122
Lacrima's first thought is: Takashi was tricked into doing Dusk Zone grocery shopping for an old Dusk Zone Old Woman. She ALMOST finds that situation amusing as she looks around at the now, obviously filled place as she moves to sit down at the table as she settles herself.

"So you have seen me." she says flatly. She softly head tilts as she looks over to Takashi. If she has questions, she seems to be willing to wait until Takashi-sama gets his out of the way first.

"I am... La Vampira. Yes. My name is Lacrima." she says softly.

She watches for now, looking between the two. She gently looks around the room idly. One wonders why it hides itself- if there's no danger. Not that they're here to cause her danger. She has no intentions to at least.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 03:49:38 81123
The Crone nods. "I hide because it's the nature of the shadows to conceal and shift." she says, answering the question Lacrima didn't even voice aloud. "And because it wouldn't do to be found when I don't want to be." Her voice crackles and shifts in tone, and it's more an emotional sense of connection it creates in the two across from her than anything by the soundwaves themselves.

"But today I've been found by two lost children of the Dusk Zone who could be so much more if they weren't so fettered by their own spirits." The ingredients that floated through the air are manipulated - chopped, squished, peeled - by shadowy wisps before they are poured into cups that suddenly go from flat shadows to three dimensional ones, then into physical creations of purple crystal with a tea mixture inside them. Three, one for each of them.

Takashi reaches out, nods to Lacrima, and takes his in his hand. "I'd tell you we're here to seek insight, but that seems superfluous since you already know that."

She leans back in her chair, then suddenly melts into shadows and appears behind them, still holding that tea. "Well, I can only provide the insight, it's up to you two to do something useful for yourselves with it."
Lacrima 2017-08-04 03:55:28 81124
Lacrima accepts the tea as she frowns. So she can read into minds. Or she's good at predicting what new people may be thinking- at least the kind of people who can survive the Dusk Zone, let alone the travel up here. She nods. 'thank you." she says, because oddity is no reason to forget bad manners.

"Yes. Taka-sama has insight he needs. I imagine." she says. She frowns. Lost children of the Dusk Zone. Is she lost? She has to ponder that. She also eyes the Crone suspiciously as she thinks. Are her thoughts her own for now or are they being shared. She doesn't know. And attempt to mentally block may be seen as hostile to whatever this entity is. If she could even do so to begin.

She sips the tea. And then makes this face about it. It's hard to tell if it's a good taste face or a bad taste face. More like 'it's an intresting taste' face.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 04:24:30 81125
Takashi nods, and - well, the Crone's tea takes some getting used to. It's bitter and sweet, salty and sour, and it leaves a tingling sensation on your tongue. So it takes him a moment to speak, and in that moment The Crone returns to her chair. Via walking, this time.

"The last time you told me to seek my past, and I have, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right past." he says, quietly. The Crone's shadowy hand extends across the table and a single finger 'shh's Takashi. "No, I told you to seek THE past. You assumed I meant yours. I mean humanity's. You want to understand things, you must understand the past, and not the kind you see in books. But you've already created the tool you need." She returns her hand to herself and crosses her arms - then looks with one eye at Lacrima as though waiting.
Lacrima 2017-08-04 04:56:01 81126
Lacrima sips her tea. "I don't know if you're talking about that vague time before time, or something else." she says to the Crone. She shifts a bit uncomfortably as she sighs a bit. She continues to sip and sip her tea and it's like she's trying to avoid anything.

"What tool?" she asks curiously. She looks around and blinks a moment. She hasn't made anything THAT useful recently. She purses her lips a bit.

She sighs and shakes her head as she looks to the Crone.

"I have a question for you. I suppose it is a stupidly mundane one to yours." she says softly. "Is it. Normal. For things like me. To be unable to feel positive feelings?" she asks curtly.
Takashi Agera 2017-08-04 05:23:42 81127
"Oh I just wanted your question." The Crone replies. "The thing that can give the Lost Boy his answer isn't necessarily you." She sips the tea. "But the thing that you're asking... it depends on your opinion of what emotions are positive. Anger to defend what you love is positive and you have that. You have some emotions that are dulled, and others you could tap into more strongly. But... it varies, from creature to creature and different situations." she explains.

"Both of you... are trying to live in two worlds at once, and failing in both cases." she whispers and takes another drink.
Lacrima 2017-10-16 14:48:40 84865
Lacrima listens to her answer and keeps her pleasantly neutral resting face as much as she can. That just sounds like the 'mental gymnastics' she uses to convince herself of things, or how Mamoru telling her that worrying heavily about someone because that's part of only what you can feel is 'some sort of love'. She just blinks rapidly.

She frowns. "So what you're saying is we need to choose one or the other? That's nonsense." she says, in a quickly dismissive fashion.

She eyes Takashi a moment as she looks back to the Crone with a softer frown now. It's not huge, but perhaps this line of thought makes her intensely uncomfortable.
Takashi Agera 2017-10-16 15:00:57 84866
Takashi, also, frowns a bit. His is more pronounced, and he takes a drink of the tea and closes his eyes and relaxes before he speaks. "But I am a creature of both worlds. I can't stay in the Zone, and I can't stay out of it. But it's a strength... not a weakness." He says that firmly.

The Crone leans back. "You asked me for advice, and I gave it to both of you. But just because you're currently failing doesn't mean it's impossible. It just means it's difficult. I won't fill your head with those lies that your opposition is so fond of. You've both chosen difficult paths, trying to take on all the troubles of both sides of you. Reclaim what you've lost, as the Little Bat, or claim what you never had, as the Lost Boy."

"It's within your grasp but you straddle difficult lines, and you reach so high the falls could be catastrophic."
Lacrima 2017-10-16 15:23:51 84867
Lacrima crosses her arms. She hasn't been taking huge risks trying to reclaim 'humanity'. Has she? She starts searching her head. Haven't made a deal with a horrible otherworldly horror. Nope. Tried a mass drain attack? Nope. Has she tried to summon T'znech, changer of ways. Nope. So she makes a pursed frown still.

She wouldn't call those lies. So much as 'the opposition has no idea how to handle things like her or Taka so use what 'works for them'. But maybe it is lying in a way. Are they lying? Ugh. More. Stupid dark energy mental gymnastics but in the other direction.

She tries to get her head out of the loop. "If it's not impossible, then what's the starting point if what we're trying now isn't working?" she asks confusedly.
Takashi Agera 2017-10-16 15:55:27 84868
The Crone turns to face Lacrima more directly. "If I tell you, then it doesn't do as much good. I can only point you in a direction. So let me say that the power that you can harness - both of you - is of a nature that can lift you up, but if you shun it, it'll drag you down."

"The starting point, and the information I'm giving you today, is to prepare for a war, not a battle, to achieve your goals."
Lacrima 2017-10-16 16:02:32 84869
Lacrima softly purses her lips as she frowns. Of course. The magical mysterious dusk zone... person thing isn't just going to give her the answer. She's not even a little surprised. But then the Crone promises information. About some war for her goals. "Information." she says. "About a war."

"A figure of speech. Or literal?" she asks raising a brow.
Takashi Agera 2017-10-16 16:23:10 84870
The Crone looks at the both of them and closes her eyes. "The war that's already going on. Between worlds. Between spirits. Between desires. It's all around you, it's in you, it is you." She leans back.

"I am weary now, and my tea is gone. You should both finish yours before this place returns to where it came."
Lacrima 2017-10-16 16:29:51 84871
Lacrima sighs and finishes the tea, because what can it possibly hurt? It's tea. Strange. Dusk Zone Crone tea and this person isn't exactly coming off as someone who wants to rule the world of the living. She shuts up, and drinks tea and then lowers the cup.

Ugh she has so many questions. How does this woman sustain herself? Is she even a woman? Is she a youma or a manifestation?

.....are they gonna need to walk all the back down the treacherous mountainside?
