Maria Hanazawa was supposedly the new transfer student. From Spain, no less! And it was lunchtime. and early spring. Which means that the girl adjusted her glasses, grabbed the pail that contained her lunch- and went out to enjoy the nice weather.

It rained yesterday, so some puddles still persisted here or there, but overall, there we're plenty of dry patches of the grass to lay down on and eat.

She opened her pail, to a lunch of what appeared to be rice, and a bunch of tiny hotdogs.

And also three donuts piled on top.

Never, ever forget the donuts.

While she was ostensibly alone- she was not going out of her way to be alone. There we're other students around here who had similar ideas. Which gave the impression she was approachable for the moment.

Meanwhile, a source of darkness and light in equal measure draws near!

... To be precise, Miho Kagami, an *actual* new transfer student, is coming by with a lunch pail in one hand and what appears to be a map of the school in the other. She glances around with a faintly nervous expression; she's not exactly trying to keep away from the other students, but it's clear that there's something generally ... lost about her bearing. Or perhaps merely unanchored.

She sits down some distance away at another dry spot, and she opens her lunch and starts eating in a somewhat hurried fashion.
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 19:16:44 90249
And then there's that nerd who lives on a compound with her extended family, she notices the new face and since her book is in her backpack doesn't get any advance warning. So, Sora heads that way, passing by Maria on the way. "Just saying hi to the new face, save a seat for me?" She asks, then reaches Miho. "Hi. I'm Sora Hisakata." She hands over a business card, it's simple, offering tutoring services in physics, maths and chemistry. It's including a phone number and e-mail address. "Haven't seen you around before."

Maria is eating tiny hot dogs. She has a huge wealth of them in that lunch pail. When one eats a lot, one adapts to tiny spaces. Also there's the rice. And donuts. One gets eaten fairly quickly as she eyes Sora.

When Sora passes by she has to do that 'chew quickly to talk thing' and says. "Okay!" she says. "But where you going?" she asks.

Oh, she's going to meet um... she squints. She doesn't know that girl. Huh. She must be new then, so she shrugs a moment and goes back to eating her rice and tiny hot dogs from her lunch pail.

.....she should get business cards. 'Maria Hanzawa, Professional Transfer Student'. She nods matter of factly.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 19:31:01 90251
Miho blinks as she looks up at Sora. "Huh? Oh! Hi!" she says. Her voice is a bit scratchy, and sounds faintly androgynous. "Yeah, uh, my name's Miho Kagami. I just moved into Tokyo, ah, the other day." She manages a smile as she takes the business card, and adjusts her glasses. "Oh, you do tutoring? Um, nice! I, I might have to, to check that out."

She folds the already-well-creased map around the card, and slips it back under the lunch pail. "Yeah. Uh." She seems to lose momentum, and deflates slightly. "Sorry, Miss Hisakata, um, I'm just kind of ... recovering, kinda, from the move in general."
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 19:38:46 90252
And that's why Sora gets all the business. Aggressive advertising. She smiles when Miho mentions she might have to check that out, "Well, miss Kagami. If you just move in I bet you're eager to get to know some people. Why don't you join me and my friend?" Because Sora is going to get 'Maria' some more social contacts, perhaps it'll help. She heads back to sit next to her friend, and pushes a chair on the other side of the table with her feet to welcome Miho, then asides softly so Miho can't easily overhear it. "I think I got her."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 19:42:28 90253
Maria Hanazawa eyes Sora as she invites the new girl over. She doesn't make any faces about this, just a neutral look. She's eating her tiny hot dogs and slightly seasoned rice still. Also she's two donuts down with one remaining. This one is plain sugar!

She gently purses her lips as Sora walks over and says that, and she gasps, scandalously, placing a hand to her chest. "Oh, Jia-chan will be so sad to hear you got someone else." she says, fluttering her eyelashes.

She says this more in a fashion that only Sora can hear her. As not to also completely utterly embarrass Miho either.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 19:47:30 90254
"Meeting new people sounds, um, good!" says Miho, and a nervous expression briefly crosses her face as soon as Sora is facing away from her. Still, she gets up to join the other two without hesitation. On the ride into Tokyo, her father had specifically brought up the prospect of getting new friends, so that'll be one thing accomplished.

She frowns and furrows her brow at the mostly-unheard comments. "Umm ... pardon?" she says as she sits down. Hey, she actually sounded somewhat wry there instead of like a completely shy nervous wreck!
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 19:50:09 90255
Sora shoves Maria in the side on that comment /and/ blushes. For no good reason. "So this is Maria Hanazewa, and that's Miho Kagami." She introduces the two to eachother. "Maria's a relatively recent transfer student." She's not making any further comment on the whole exchange with Maria. "So where are you from, miss Kagami?"
Lacrima 2018-04-12 19:55:21 90256
Maria Hanazawa gives a wry smirk at the shove. She was giving her friend guff. So she says. "I was just giving my friend guff." she says coyly. She then gently settles down. "Yes, I am Maria Hanazawa. I am a transfer student from Spain. My... family." a lie. "Decided I needed to learn about my more Japanese roots on my mother's side so I am here for a bit." she says softly.

More tiny hot dogs. She's out of rice now though.

She gently purses her lips, as she waits to hear the reply to Sora's question first before she potentially levies her own.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 20:00:48 90257
Miho nods, mollified by the comment about guff-giving. "Pleased to meet you both," she says. "I'm from Nishimura, it's this small village that's ... an hour's drive in the other direction from Kyoto. It's, it's one of those places that you can sort of ... if someone says 'where's that?' then you can say 'exactly.'" She seems to lose steam again after that mouthful, and reopens her lunch to take another literal mouthful.
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 20:04:07 90258
"And I'm from the Hisakata compound." Sora pauses, "Which is right here in Tokyo." She gets out her own lunchbox and starts to pick away at her rice slowly, she looks a bit thin, maybe she doesn't like eating. Or maybe she's just not hungry. "Why'd you come to Tokyo? I mean, you don't have to answer, just curious."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 20:10:31 90259
Maria Hanazawa purses her lips. "Hrm..." she says softly. She gently nods a bit. "That's what I was going to ask. What brings you to Tokyo?" she asks. She gently taps her lunch pail a moment as she eyes inside. She frowns. She can actually see the bottom of the box past the slowly dwindling pile of tiny hot dogs.

More next time, she thinks. She looks back.

"Better schooling?" she asks curiously.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 20:15:02 90260
Miho shakes her head in response to Maria, and puts down her lunch as she swallows. "My dad's job," she says. "He got, um, transferred here from Tokyo. Got him a raise, too, I think." She sighs. "Still exhausting, though."

Unconsciously, she crosses her arms, grasping her left arm with her right in a way that totally isn't a subconscious expression of the conflicting energies within her. "Moving is one big mess," she adds. "I'm, uh ... I've been trying to look on the bright side, but ... yeah."
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 20:21:38 90261
"I imagine it can be." Sora answers Miho in a tone of 'I have no practical experience with moving but it sounds like a pain.' She gkances towards the emptying box of Lacrima's and gently shoves her still mostly full lunchbox over that way. No comments of any kind. "Just take your time, get settled in. Get caught up when you have more energy." Unstated: Pay me to help with that.
Lacrima 2018-04-12 20:29:49 90262
Maria shakes her head at Sora's offer. She isn't going to starve. Sora might because she's human. She can deal with feeling unsatisfied because she can eat 'all the donuts' when she gets back to her spooky manor.

She nods. "....Dealing with a change like that can be difficult." she says. "I miss home." she says. A half truth. She does indeed miss home. Just not 'Maria's' home in this context.

"But it can be easy to catch up. With help." she says. "Sora-chan gave you one of her cards, right?" she asks.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 20:38:09 90264
Miho glances between the two at the lunch-shoving between Sora and Maria. "Ah, yeah," she says, managing a faint smile and looking like she's running on empty. "Well, um, at least I don't have to worry about ... being the only one who moved recently."

She nods in response to Maria's other comment. "Oh! Yes, she did." She gives her left arm a brief squeeze, then reaches down to unfold the school map, revealing the card once again. Then she turns her attention back to her own lunch, which is comparatively only lightly touched at this point, and does her best to get in a few more bites.
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 20:41:22 90265
Sora doesn't take her lunchbox back, and instead pushes it a little closer to Maria. "I'm not hungry." She insists, glossing over the context of missing home, being a problem she's never really had. Closest was when she left home to go on a dark quest to purge the world of all injustice. "There's a fair number of transfer students we get. Tokyo is a big city, and I think our school is actively advertising being tranfer-friendly. I can't see how else we'd get so many, at least."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 20:54:38 90266
Maria Hanazawa says "I can." she says coyly. But She's more privy to some of the inner workings of 'magic' and how Tokyo is some sort of magnet. She gently purses her lips, but finally accepts Sora's lunch, gently going to nibble at that as she's finished her tiny hot dogs.

Ohhh tiny hot dogs, whom does the bell toll? It tolls for thee, tiny hot dogs.

She gently head tilts. "Have you considered Clubs, yet?" she asks Miho softly. "I'm in the Dance Club." she says softly.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 20:57:44 90267
Miho frowns at the continued lunch-shoving, which ... doesn't quite seem to be something between relative strangers. Well, it's clear enough that Maria has been here longer than Miho herself, so the two have probably had time to become friends, so never mind that train of thought.

"Yeah," she says in response to Sora, shrugging. "I guess this place is just the cheapest, or something? Or ... easiest to get into? Or something, I dunno." She smiles weakly.

She blinks at Maria's cryptic comment, then shrugs at the next question. "I, uh, I've looked, but, but I haven't ... quite found anything that really feels like it, um, fits yet." And there she goes, starting to unravel again ...
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 21:01:34 90268
In the category of make up total and complete bullhockey to explain actions, "Maria and I have been pen pals since well before she came here. I'm sure that's why she picked this school." Combined with a shove and a glance of of 'yes I know what you're getting at' towards Maria. "Take your time to join a club, they're not mandatory. But if you're curious, I'm on the volleyball team."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 21:07:07 90269
Maria Hanazawa says. "I like dancing a lot. We use an instrument called a castanet in Spain in it." she says softly. She nods a lot at Sora's shove. "Mmmhhhmmm. Pen pals." she says naturally. "I've also been here a few months." she says gently.

"-and my mother prepared me a lot for customs here." she insists. "Before I left."

"What things do you like to do, Miho?" she asks. "There's a lot of fun places nearby. Like the Game Crown down the way." she says. "Or the Mall in the city." she says.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 21:14:21 90270
Miho blushes faintly and nods at Sora's explanation, which is even more reasonable than the one she'd come up with herself. "Oh, okay," she says, mentally backing away from that *whole subject*. "Sorry."

She hurriedly steers her mental energy towards clubs. "Yeah, um, I don't think athletics clubs are going to be my, um, my thing. Or ... energetic ones? Do dances fall into that category?" She shrugs in response to Maria's other suggestion. "I might have to stop by the Game Crown some time ... I'm not, um, a noisy-crowds sort of person either, but I can do arcades in small doses."

She thinks for a moment. "Are there any parks around here? I might go for, for strolls and things."
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 21:18:28 90271
"I tend to go to King Penguin Park when I need to think. There's a library, some museums and a zoo in it, so it's not like the quietest park, but it's fairly big so you can usually find a quiet spot." Sora answers Miho's question without even thinking, clearly speaking truth to it. "There's some other parks too, but they're not as nice."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 21:22:22 90272
Maria nods matter of factly. "King Penguin park is the bigger park in the city." she says softly. "It has a large wooded area, on the edge of the city." she says softly. She gently purses her lips.

She is halfway through Sora's own lunch now. Nomnomnonom.

"Dancing is an art. But it can be physically demanding. It's more performance dancing I'm interested in." she says softly. "But I'm versed in a lot of dancing." she says.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 21:26:35 90273
Miho blinks at Sora and Maria's shared suggestion. It's an odd name, but she nods. "Got it," she says. "I'll have to check that one out." She smiles weakly. "I guess in the end, I'm just not used to being in the city, ahaha ..."

She nods to Maria's description of dancing. "Yeah," she says. "I guess that kind of thing won't be for me, I guess. Um, sorry." She takes another couple of bites from her lunch, which she's only managed to get halfway through so far.
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 21:41:43 90274
Sora takes a strange book out of her backpack, it's only really visible for a moment as she hides it behind her backpack, but it looked old. Leatherbound and with a glimpse of metal. The girl then takes out a pan and writes down something, then pauses and sort of nods, before writing another note, reading that one, and quickly putting the book back. "I'm sure you'll find a club you like."
Lacrima 2018-04-12 21:47:22 90275
Maria mmmphhs a bit. "Well, not everyone needs to be in a club." she says. "But I'm sure you may find something you'll like." she says. "...and why sorry? It isn't offensive. Not everyone likes dancing. I just happen to do." she says with a wry coy little smile. But not big.

She slides Sora's lunch box back. "Thanks." she says softly.

"I should get going before class gets back in session. I have to clean out my pail- and contact someone briefly." she says as she starts to stand up.

"I'm sure we'll meet again." she says to Miho. In no particular threating tone. It is merely a statement.
Miho Kagami 2018-04-12 21:51:22 90276
Miho blinks at the sight of the book. Okay, /that's/ weird. She doesn't comment, though; she just nods to each of them in turn, and says, "Okay, sure." She glances down at her meal and laughs nervously. "And I should just, um, hurry up and finish, huh?" She shakes her head. "Wow, um, this is actually ... I think it might be the longest conversation I've had in middle school." Her voice takes a downturn in the enthusiasm department as the sentence goes on, however. 'Wow, way to over-share!' she thinks to herself.

And that last remark from Maria? Hmm. Her suspicions are giving her a slight poke again.
Sora Hisakata 2018-04-12 21:53:55 90277
"Well it's a new school, a new start. A new chance to make friends, right?" Sora answers Miho with an encouraging smile, then closes her lunchbox without even checking if there's anything left. "I should go check up on something real quick. I hope to hear from you soon, okay?"
