It hasn't been a great couple of weeks for Nightbell. When Dr. Murano, still on her hospital bed, contacted Bell about one of Eclipse's scientists who wanted to check her out, Bell was actually interested in having a second pair of eyes looking at her before she actually joined UMBRA.

Nightbell sent Tarnished the location of the meeting place: on top of the roof of Infinity University's administrative building. She's sitting against a rooftop vent, keeping it between herself and the door to the roof, with Rubindorn ready to inform her of anyone's approach. She relaxes, casually sipping from an energy drink, which has been her go-to distraction from her dark urges lately.

(Well ... at least in this form. But she and Dr. Murano agreed that Tarnished doesn't have need-to-know regarding Akari. When an Eclipse scientist isn't backed by a greater organization like UMBRA, you need all the help you can get, and that includes keeping whatever secrets you don't need to give away.)

Tarnished had been very, very, verrrrry busy. Becoming the head of a division, suddenly having a ton of resources available. Other scientists. People who worked FOR her. It was a bit overwhelming. Okay it was incredibly overwhelming.

Then on top of it, learning how to properly use dark energy. Considering it composed some of her organs now, learning to control it was the paramount importance. Which was why she was using it today to teleport. Walking to the center of her office, about five minutes before she was set to arrive... She formed a portal of darkness and then stepped through it.

Oh gosh oh gosh no no no noooo! She fell over to her knees as the portal closed behind her. She dry heaved a few times, closing her eyes as she tried to calm her stomach. Ugh. That... that was rough. she just sat there for a moment, thankful she portaled in about half a mile from the location. Slowly she recovered... But now she was late. Fudge. She climbed to her feet and started making her way towards the woman. She'd arrive... Three minutes late, shrouded in dark energy to fly. It wasn't the most... it was a bit awkward. "Hello... Nightbell, I presume?" she asked, walking forward and trying to calm her stomach. "My name is Tarnished, head of the medical research division of Eclipse. A pleasure," she said, holding out her hand.

Rubindorn pings. <<TARNISHED IST ANGEKOMMEN!>>

Nightbell looks over at the disheveled looking woman and sets down her energy drink. "Hi, yep!" she says, getting to her feet and frowning as she takes the shorter girl's hand. "Whoa, are you okay?" All thoughts of making snide remarks like well who ELSE do you know with glowing red eyes and face-markings? are pushed out of her head. "No offense, but you're looking kinda like you might wanna take today off."

To Tarnished's empathy, Nightbell's emotions are strangely fogged, but visible. Her concern is genuine, but there's a bit of an undercurrent of suspicion.

Tarnished nodded. "I am f-fine," she said, before shaking her hair and reaching up to brush down her hair. "Please do not worry. This meeting is about you. I am currently performing research on dark energy and, more importantly, how it can be harnessed for medical purposes. You are one of the few cases where dark energy and... other things have formed a symiotic connection. I ask that you allow me to study you, and perform some tests. If you are unwilling, I will accept that. But know that your assistance may very well save the lives of others down the road. So please make your decision carefully."

Nightbell watches her for a moment, then puts aside her concern and grins. "Sounds good to me!" she says. "I mean, first off, I can recommend that you compare notes with Lacrima from UMBRA, she's kind of ... an expert on how dark energy affects people." Understatement of the day.

"As for my nature ..." She considers this. "I'm basically a humanlike artifiical intelligence with a synthetic Linker Core, running on a spell that's sort of like a mage's familiar or a guardian beast except that I don't have a base form. My biology works at a glance, but everything's fake." She shrugs. "So, dunno how far you can generalize it from my stuff, but I'd still like to help however I can."

Tarnished nodded a few times, holding up her left hand and the strange... device on it? "I'm familiar, somewhat, with those words. Though I'm still learning quite a bit. And I've heard of Lacrima, a colleague of mine intends to introduce us soon. Her case seems absolutely fascinating."

"Now... How much manipulation do you have over the dark energy portions of your body? Would you mind if I take your vitals?" she asked as she held out her left hand and a stethoscope appeared. "Enter recording mode."

There was a beep from her device. "And fake doesn't matter. What's important is that it works. If we can synthesize it, learn to make similar things... Well... the leaps it could give us are boundless..." She mumbled. With permission, she'd begin running tests and... IT was... Well. Blood pressure, heart beat, all of that. It was oddly precise. "Can you tell me any noticable effects from this? Any differences, if any, from before the dark energy?"

Bell blinks, looking around on the rooftop. "Right here? All righty, then." She chuckles, calm and slightly amused. "Well, of course the Linker Core is ... you can think of it as the organ which produces your mana, which is the energy you expend when you use magic. Mine also produces Dark Energy."

She seems to have more-or-less ordinary vitals for a human girl in her late teens who's been consuming concentrated caffeine recently, has literally superhuman strength, and has an unusually high mana output. And a Linker Core which produces Dark Energy; she doesn't seem to have any specific parts of her which are made of darkness, there's just enough of it overall that it's hard to see exactly how much of her body is made out of it. "I can't really 'manipulate' it, aside from dusk-stepping and firing bullets of darkness. It's just ... a part of me, basically."

Tarnished nodded, recording all she could and... "Would you relent to a more in depth examination?" she asked with a smile. "Here." She pulled out a... business card? "Come to this address. It's currently closed down, but I assure you that if you show this card it will allow you to enter. There will be more tools and assistants of mine who will perform all necessary tests. If, at any time, you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you may leave," she said firmly.

"But any aid you offer will be greatly appreciated and... I suspect it is something you'd enjoy."
Rosalie Janus 2018-08-19 19:20:24 94960
At that, Bell smiles. "Sure!" she says, accepting the card. She's no stranger to unusual business cards or odd means of getting access to Eclipse's facilities; she has her own stack of Eclipse-cards. "And, yeah." She hesitates, then says, "The Doctor might have already told you this, but I was originally created on Belka to bring order, and I decided that Eclipse was the best way to apply that to Earth. And medical applications are just another way of going for that, y'know?" (She doesn't notice anything odd about Tarnished's remarks on her enjoyment.)

Tarnished nodded. "I've seen part of your file, though I need to study it more in depth. I thought a face to face meeting would tell me all I need to know." She then reached out and placed a hand on hers.

"You are right. It is the best way to keep order. More importantly, our medical applications can save lives. They already have saved lives. And while I am not directly connected to any of their order operations... well... My goals are the health and way being of all. And I have trust that you will be pivotal in this. Thank you for your assistance. But... I should leave now. It was a pleasure meeting you."

She'd then form a portal of darkness, disappearing into it...

And reappearing a few feet above her office floor. Thankfully, the portal didn't show what was on the other side so Bell wouldn't be able to see the girl flail a bit before crashing to the ground. The portal disappeared and... she just laid there, waiting for the nausea to fade.

At least it wasn't as bad as last time.

Bell smiles and nods. "Exactly!" she says. "See you around, then!" She waves as Tarnished dusk-steps away, and sits back down, picking her energy drink, oblivious to the girl's troubles with teleportation. Looks like she's gonna be helping out in some capacity, even before she joins UMBRA ...
