Tokyo is hot. Hot, hazy and humid. The park is a hope for a breeze already the harbour would be even more of a hope. Still, it's more comfortable than most indoor places that don't have AC. Naru is under a tree, settled on the grass, claiming a patch of shade to sit and sketch into her notebook. There's plenty of people, but the heat and humidity have things more low key than it might usually be for a day during school break. She reaches for her iced coffee, sipping as she considers the work in her sketchbook.

Sitting in that very tree is a white spirit, holding a sketchbook of her own as she is drawing something. Icela pauses to look at something when she notices Naru beneath 'her' tree. "Do you make it a habit to sit beneath other people's trees uninvited?" She asks in a mildly accusatory tone, it doesn't seem genuine however. Upon noticing the sketchbook, she especially tries to take a peek at what's there.

There's not even a glance up at that imperious query as Naru continues to look at her sketchbook. It's very rough, what's there, a roughing out of a very large landscape piece, wiht trees and a waterfall and the harbour and Tokyo skyline. Mythical, as there's no where in the city that looks quite like that, but there's one spot along an edge that's getting more detail.

"Yes, actually. I do." Is the reply. Another sip of coffee and then she looks up to see who she's speaking with.
Icela 2018-08-28 15:40:31 96308
"You should be grateful I'm a generous soul, then, and am willing to share my tree even with people as rude as you." Icela smirks as she says that, the creases that forms in her inhumanly pale face contrasting with those pitch black irises. She's obviously not human, "I like what you're going for there. I should draw more landscapes, I've been neglecting those."
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 15:42:48 96309
"What made you pick this tree?" Naru asks conversationally as she sets the coffee down, and goes back to drawing. A lack of humanity doesn't seem to phase her any more than the rudeness at claiming a tree in a public park. "Thank you. I'm unreasonably fond of landscapes, they are underappreciated. Good perspective practice, depending on one's style."
Icela 2018-08-28 15:51:08 96310
"I decided I liked it." Icela answers that question as though that this is all that matters, then flips over a new page in her sketchbook and begins to draw. Comfortable, confident strokes of her pencil make it clear she's used to drawing and not worried about accidentally getting a stroke wrong somewhere. "And if I want to become a mangaka, I'll need to be able to draw decent backgrounds for my scenes."
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 15:54:09 96311
"It's as valid a reason as any." Naru agrees, giving another look up into the tree, and to Icela herself. "It is a nice tree. In my top five of trees, certainly." She is doodling, trying out ideas, with similar confidence in her skills not to be concerned that things are going wrong. She's trying out additions to the giant piece, in theory at least. "I presume that's what you'd like to do for a living, then? Be a mangaka?"
Icela 2018-08-28 16:07:19 96312
"I thought so." Icela smiles when Naru approves of her tastes, and keeps on sketching. It's not quite possible to see what she's working on from down there, however. "Maybe, I don't know yet. I do like to draw, though, and I used to be part of the manga club." She doesn't bother to explain why she no longer is. "How about you?"
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 16:11:11 96313
"What school do you go to?" Naru asks, although there's some serious benefit of the doubt being offered in assuming that Icela goes to school. "I've heard that it's quite competative, although I don't know if that's merely from people who didn't make a go of it and sour grapes about that fact." She gives a little shrug at the question. "I don't know yet. I might try the whole fine art route, selling at galleries and the like. Although I'm fond of eating and being able to pay rent, so that might kybosh that notion fairly quickly."
Icela 2018-08-28 16:28:25 96315
"Seishou-ish." Icela doesn't bother to explain the 'ish.' She nods at the mention of it being competitive, "I don't mind it being competitive, I'm sure I could make it if I tried." She sounds confident, and she giggles a bit at the notion of eating and rent, "Starving artist lifestyle not for you, then? Maybe you should find a rich benefactor, I heard that's how they did it in the olden days."
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 16:52:36 96318
"Mmm." Naru answers to the reply of what school. Seeing as how she goes to Seishou, it piques the interest, but she doesn't poke at it. "I'm sure you could. Determination counts for a lot. As does being willing to work crazy hours, I dare say. I'd rather do that for myself." She laughs softly and nods. "A patron.. I've often wondered how horribly guilt riddled that choice was back then. Was it stressful, knowing you had to create on demand for someone? I'd find that stressful.. but I've done commissions before, so it doens't seem quite so wholly unlikely that I might not starve." She grins. "Especially if friends are willing to feed me now and then."
Icela 2018-08-28 16:58:52 96320
"I don't think I'd feel guilty about accepting a patronage. As long as I'd have enough time for my own projects, I'd be able to earn a living doing what I love; isn't that what everyone wants?" Icela responds to that pondering with a faint shrug, "I mean I'd try to make sure that what my patron wants is at least in the same general vein of what I'd like to produce; but that's mostly because I don't know if I could make anything good if my heart wasn't in it."
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 17:04:54 96322
"I fear that'd be even worse.. drawing without your heart in it, when you are drawing other people's stories. Be it manga, or anime, or working as an illustrator." Naru mmms softly and reaches for her coffee again. "Most accounts of patrons from medieval times seemed to imply that it was a mix of 'do this art for me' and 'make good art, I'm likely to like it'." She gives another shrug. "I've a bit of time to decide. Nothing is set in stone about my future anyhow."
Icela 2018-08-28 17:19:26 96325
"Yeah." Icela puts her focus into her art for a bit, working hard as she thinks over things. She's peeking down past her art at Naru a few times, but doesn't add anything quite yet, just being quiet and drawing.

And so silence reigns. Naru is quite content to doodle.. the edge of the mural. A happy dog leaping to catch a frisbee thrown by someone wiht more energy than either of them. The tree that's across the walking path in the park. All are subject to her doodling, sketching and general mind wandering. The park is getting a bit busier, in spite of the heat, but no one's moving quickly. It's a languid pace, full of parasols and icy drinks, pauses in the shade.
Icela 2018-08-28 19:14:02 96334
Icela keeps working on her sketch until she's done. And then she jumps out of the tree, landing without sound. It's even more obvious how much her body doesn't quite play by physics, she looks a lot like some kind of ghost. She turns her sketchbook towards Naru, it's a landscape alright; even if it's not one that's physically possible. A floating mountain with a river flowing down the side, and a city next to the river. The mountaintop has volcano-like crater, but does not appear to be active. "What do you think?"
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 19:24:39 96335
Naru looks up from what she's doodling as Icela hops down, and she braces just a bit, as if uncertain how the other girl being closer is going to go. Not agressive, just a shade wary. She smiles as she looks at the sketchbook. "Ooh, I like it. Have you been there?" The fact that it could be possible is just accepted as true.
Icela 2018-08-28 19:56:16 96336
"Nope, don't even know if exists." Icela answers, and then begins to climb back into her tree. "Thanks though. I think I'm going to vanish for a bit, but it was nice talking to you. My name is Icela, what's yours?"
Naru Osaka 2018-08-28 20:22:20 96337
"I'm Naru." Naru waves as Icela climbs back up into the tree. "Take care, enjoy your time in the tree." She gets to her feet as well, brushing grass of the back of her skirt as she does, before tucking her sketchbook into her bag.
