It's nearly Halloween! In recent years, Halloween has been kinda a big thing in Japan, so of course the conbenie is getting in on the action, which is why today Kyouko is engaged in setting up decorations around the shop. It is also why she has drafted Naru to come and lend her a hand, because she has to be able to pause and help customers if any should arrive. Having another person on-hand to continue the decorating without the frequent interruptions will make the whole thing go a lot more seamlessly.

Getting into the spirit a bit, Kyouko is all Halloweened, which is to say, she is wearing black lipstick and dark eyeshadow, and has her short red hair spiked up and has even gone so far as to replace her little red stud earrings with dangling metal spiders. Otherwise, she's still in her usual jeans-and-t-shirt with orange work apron.

Currently, she is stretching fake cobwebs across the lintel above the sliding glass doors at the front of the shop, balancing precariously, but with her usual preternatural agility, on a few stacked empty crates.

"If you fall on your head, I am going to laugh my butt off." Naru comments as she glances over from where she's settled at the counter folding little origami bats to string along. Because when you bring an artist, she's not very good at following the easy path. The bats fold up quickly at least.

"If you catch the corner of it on that little box for the mechanism, I think it'll spread out better." Naru isn't above doing some back seat decorating as she folds, not that she's up there helping or anything.

It really isn't that high. There's only three crates stacked on top of each other, although they do shift and wobble alarmingly as Kyouko stretches to reach one end of the door. She's like a cat, though, adjusting her balance without really thinking about it. "I won't fall." She says, confidently, as she hooks the edge of the cotton cobweb over the mechanism, frowning slightly as she adjusts it so it won't tangle in anything when the door opens.

That accomplished, she hops back down onto the floor and pushes the crates out of the way, stepping back with hands upon hips to survey her handiwork. "Not bad." She says, grinning as she turns to eye Naru and her work. "Those are cool." Regarding the bats. She steps over and picks one up, turning it around in her hand to examine it. "We can put these up across the fridges in the back."

"Looks good." Naru declares as she watches Kyouko admire her handidwork. "It'd be even better if you could make it dark, and people would just get the feel of it in their faces.. which would be horrible for business to have them flee screaming rather than shopping." She laughs softly and nudges paper towards Kyouko.

"I printed out instructions for the bats, and the ghosts. Everything else looked dumb, or too complicated." Naru mmms softly and nods. "Across the fridges would be good. What are you going to have on the counter? Anything, or is it too in the way to put stuff there?"

Kyouko makes a face. "The idea is to make the place more appealing to customers, not less." She says, knowing full-well that Naru is aware and just giving her a hard time. "If we want money to buy halloween candy, we need the shop to have customers." She eyes the paper which is nudged in her direction.

"I'm terrible at this kind of stuff." She grumbles as she takes the paper and turns to look at the directions. Not strictly true- Kyouko has fingers as nimble as the rest of her. Creative pursuits are not, however, something often in her headspace. She makes a few experimental folds anyway, with moderate success.

"On the counter?" She repeats, as she works on that. "Well, we can't block the space where people put stuff, but maybe like, a plastic jack-o-lantern on the display here.." She muses, pointing to the spot on top of some piled boxes of product.

"Half price candy, on the first." Naru has her priorities straight.

"You are not terrible at it. It's just following the steps and being careful." Naru protests with a soft pfft. "See? That's fine. Nothing wrong with that half a ghost. Now you just need to do the other side."

Naru pauses in her bat creation to consider where Kyouko has pointed. "Or a skeleton dude just lounging on the boxes, hanging out. Although I'm not sure we've got any in the decorations."
Kyouko Sakura 2018-10-30 14:18:22 99434
"Yes dear." Kyouko says, with only a little glumness in her voice. She's thrifty enough to agree on principle even if it delays acquisition of candy.

"It's not as good as yours." Kyouko counter-protests, as she flips the half-made ghost over to do the other side. Which is unreasonable, because Naru has a lot more practice, but she steadfastly refuses to accept that she is good at art, even when it's just origami.

She considers the place Naru indicates as a possible skeleton-location. "That could work. The big department store down the street probably has some for cheap. I was in there the other day and they had a whole big display of halloween decorations and stuff. I just don't want to go too overboard. The old lady gave me a budget for decorations and it's.. not much." She chuckles. "Not that I blame her, but."

"I'm on bat like 6.. bat number one was not awesome." Naru digs through to hold up a moderately wonky Bat the First. Practice is a Thing. "If you did more of them, they'd get better." Which is a tacit acceptance that Kyouko is probably only going to make a single ghost, and not a garland of them.

"Well, if they aren't that expensive, we could get it, and just keep it after halloween, rather than it be the stores." Naru points out and then grins. "Not too overboard is probably good, though. We do need to leave room for the customers."
Kyouko Sakura 2018-10-30 14:26:24 99436
"Bah." Kyouko examines Bat the First. "He's cute. Nobody likes somebody who's too perfect." She sniffs, as if to say this is common knowledge, before turning to her ghost. She finishes it, and perhaps just to spite Naru and her assumptions, takes a second piece of white paper to make another one. If there will be a third is an even bet, though.

"I guess we could take it back to the ECFH and put it there after it's done it's duty here. I'm assuming Mamoru is going to throw a halloween party. Or maybe a Halloween party will just break out, irrespective of our intentions." Kyouko snorts, as she shrugs her shoulders.

"It'll be fine." She then states, pausing in her ghost-making to look around the store. "We're still at minimum Halloween spirit. There can be a little more before people start deciding we're too creepy. A skeleton and a jack-o-lantern won't hurt." Apparently she has decided that 'both' was the appropriate decision to make.

The look from Naru, complete with arched brow speaks volumes and basically says 'yes, exactly' at Kyouko's assessment of the bat could be placed upon the ghost too. Stubborn wins again, two ghosts that she's not folding!

"I haven't heard of anything, but I also haven't asked." Naru mmms softly. "We could just turn up there Wednesday night with halloween cupcakes and decorations and inflict a super mellow party upon them all. I think all of us are kinda swarmed with school, but it's an excuse to make cupcakes."

Naru grins as the either/or question apparently got answered with 'yes'. "So skeleton hanging out here.. jack-o-lantern over on that side of the cash?" She gestures to the display boxes on the other side.
Kyouko Sakura 2018-10-30 14:55:26 99438
Kyouko even finishes the second ghost! She eyes the two of them, which really are perfectly suitable, then grins to Naru. "That's not much different than any random night, although with Halloween-theming. Still, sounds like a pretty good idea. You know I can never say no to cupcakes."

She turns to view the two indicated spots, and nods her head. "Yeah, I think that'll be perfect." She glances up at the clock. "I can't really leave the store while I'm the only one on the clock, but I have a break coming up in a short while, so I'll run down the street and see if I can find a skeleton to hang out there."

She smiles. "Thanks for coming and helping out. I know you're busy with your own schoolwork and stuff."

"The orange icing makes it special?" Naru offers and then laughs. "Alright, so yeah.. it's really just Wednesday, but with better theme and a few decorations." She pauses and then hunhs softly. "We could put together silly little treat bags for all of the guys. Candy, and stupid stuff."

"Or I can run down if it gets busy." Naru looks at the normal and predictable quiet of the daytime, when most are at work or school.. and one of them is! "I'm letting my schoolwork and current art percolate in the back of my mind while doing other stuff. It's an important part, and totally not at all completely procrastinating on writing a history report." She grins. "Besides, this is fun. I'm glad to help."
Kyouko Sakura 2018-10-30 15:08:00 99440
"We could do that." Kyouko says, on the topic of treat-bags, "On the condition that I count as one of the guys, so I get one too." She grins. "I'm sure they'd like that though. I mean, who can say no to candy, stupid or otherwise?"

"I just don't want to make you do my errand-running. It's for my job, after all." She shrugs. "But if it comes to that, I will happily accept your assistance, as always." She leans over and gives Naru a cheek-smooch, to shoe her appreciation.

Then she nods. "Fair enough. Procrastinating is an important part of the creative process." She grins, leaning back on the counter and crossing her arms. "And I'm glad you consider it fun. I kinda like it too. We were never allowed to do this kinda thing when I was little, so.."
Naru Osaka 2018-10-30 15:40:54 99441
"Yes, love.. you'd get a treat bag too. If I'm making them, then making another couple isn't exactly a hardship." Naru mmms softly, clearly considering what's going to go into the, now a given, treat bags for everyone.

"It's for your job, but customers are a bigger part of your job than decor. And besides, now I'm picking things up for treat bags." She laughs, having clearly given herself that errand. Naru smiles warmly at that cheek smooch, reaching over to give Kyouko's hand a squeeze, lest they devolve into snuggling at Kyouko's job. Not ideal.

"Halloween wasnt' really much of a thing when I was little." Naru shakes her head and then shrugs. "Western influences, and all that. So it wasn't not allowed, just not a thing. Decorating for holidays was totally a thing, though. I totally learned origami in school, though. I preferred drawing on the paper to folding it, although now I have to admit to sitting here wanting to paint it and then fold it."
Kyouko Sakura 2018-10-30 17:10:48 99442
"Well, if you don't mind.." Kyouko says, clearly willing to hand the task of shopping runs over to Naru, especially when she's on the job. She squeezes Naru's hand back, then turns back to the counter, frowning as she considers the upcoming decorations.

She eyes Naru at her own talk of Halloween as a kid. "It's gotten more popular the past few years, anyway." She points out. "Never used to be big parties downtown, but that sort of thing is pretty common now." She grins at the mention of Naru wanting to paint the origami. "No bringing the origami animals to life, dear. We have enough issues getting them in the right place as it is."
