It was the morning after the Warehouse incident, and Millie felt like doing anything BUT going to school. Last night had been a real eye-opener in terms of what she could expect to be lurking out there in this crazy magical world she now found herself a part of. She had barely landed a single hit before being taken down... not only that but she had failed to protect both Nanoha and Akari, and had almost gotten her shield broken. What a mess...

The foreigner dragged herself through her day at school, doing her best to act like she normally did. That was a little difficult considering sudden movement sent pain shooting through her torso. Luckily Pretty Cure had accelerated healing and she wouldn't have to deal with it for very long. It was currently lunch period at Verone Academy, and she had sat herself at the table she usually met Alexis at. Her posture was a little hunched as she took out her bento with a grunt. Stupid Wolkenritter... Stupid dog-eared shield knight...

How on earth did Alexis end up routinely seeing Millie, lately? The canadian had somehow just inserted herself into his life, which is... very weird. Extremely. But not bad, necessarily!
So this means he's showing up for lunch again, too. Incidentally, the other people in school have noticed this too, and as it happens, the table has been given.. a pretty wide berth. It's like some manner of Hot Zone as far as the student body is concerned. The Raskoph Hot Zone, if you will.
And so, soon enough, she hears his voice murmur from the side, "Somebody's been in a fight," right before he deposits himself into the seat opposite from her, with a trayful of food brought in from the school cafeteria. "You wanna tell me about it, or would you rather I start gathering clues from your behaviour and such?"
Millie White 2018-11-21 16:58:42 100727
She should be used to Alexis just suddenly appearing, but today she was a little on edge. Millie jumped a bit when he spoke quietly from the side, regretting it immediately and inhaling sharply. To her credit, she hid it well with a grin.

"W-What? Nah, you're imagining things." She said, waving him off with a hand as if to prove her point. Technically it was true. It wasn't so much a fight as it was a complete embarrassment. The Canadian dug into her lunch then to ward off having to answer any more questions before surfacing with questions of her own.

"Do you eat cafeteria food all the time, Raskoph?" She asked with amusement in her tone. Today Millie had packed her lunch a little bigger, as if she had somehow known she would be hungrier today as opposed to other days. She ate ravenously yet politely, however that worked.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 17:03:16 100728
Alexis gave Millie a look. The exact kind of look one gives to someone when they don't believe one iota of what the other person is saying. It's coupled with a deliberately sloooooow blink of his eyes directed at her.
"Millie," he says, while slowly cutting into the food in front of him. "What was literally the first thing that you found out about me?" The question is coupled with a slight arch of one brow, right before she presents her own question.
"Kind of," he admits. "It's cheap and it's close. And I don't cook myself, so, you know."
Millie White 2018-11-21 17:14:00 100729
Millie blinked at the weird look Alexis was giving her. She knew exactly what it meant, and internally she swore. Damnit... she hated lying. Lying made her feel gross and worthless, but she couldn't exactly just spill the beans. Her expression darkened at his question and she let out a tired sigh.

"I was just helping a kid, that's it. It's not a big deal." She says under her breath so only Alexis can hear her. TECHNICALLY she wasn't lying. Nanoha Takamachi could be classified as a kid, and she had been trying to help her. She left out the part where she was Cure Shield and got punched by what felt like a truck. When he commented on the food, Millie's expression lightened a bit.

"Oi, trade me." She said suddenly, reaching out and switching their meals. Now Alexis had a home cooked bento that consisted of cooked teriyaki salmon on rice, hard boiled eggs, and some steamed veggies like broccoli. Before he could protest, she tucked into the cafeteria food. "Oh man you're right, this is cheap. Yet oddly satisfying." She noted when her mouth wasn't full.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 17:23:16 100730
"It's always a big deal," points out Alexis with a scoff. "I know because I kept saying that way back when too, and it was always bullshit anyway. It might not be a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to the others involved. Especially the kid there-- you helping them out. And I can tell for a fact that you got beat up while you were at it, so I wanna try and help figure out how to make that less likely to happen. So--"
He taps the side of his fork - because of course the european wouldn't eat with chopsticks - against the corner of the tray. "Tell me. Was it some kid getting bullied, or was it some piece of shit human trafficers or something? There used to be some real lowlife sorts who did that around here like half a year ago." Why does he even know that and is able to speak so casually about it?!
When she suddenly switches out the positions of the tray and the bentou, he... blinks slowly, and kind of just stays completely still, with his fork left comedically hovering over where his plate used to be. "...That stuff is some industrialized dime-by-dozen frozen food. Why... why would you do that to yourself?"
Millie White 2018-11-21 17:36:20 100731
Why did she feel like she was being scolded? In a way, wasn't she? Millie grimaced slightly at his tone. He was right and she knew it, but she couldn't come out and say that. She didn't appreciate that Alexis was analyzing her, but if their situations were reversed, wouldn't she be doing the same thing? The Canuck dragged the palm of one hand down her face.

"I don't know who they were. Never seen 'em before." She said truthfully. She hadn't even known of the Wolkenritter's existence as more than a legend until last night. At his comment about the food, she actually grinned a little. "Reminds me of the industrialized dime-by-dozen frozen food from back home I suppose."
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 17:46:40 100732
Alexis snorts audibly at her assessment on the food. "SUppose school kitchen food is the same all over the world, huh?" He suggests, tone filled with amusement while he turns his fork down to pick a piece of the salmon she had in her bentou.
Come to think of it. Why does the son of two multi-billionaires eat stuff from the school cafeteria, anyway?
"Okay, well," he lets out then, in response to her actually saying something about her little... scuffle. "Normally I would say that rules out Yakuza since they tend to like to know who people are messing with, but there are things where evven they want to keep a low profile, and child-trafficing sure as shit would be one of those. Though I guess it might not have been something particularly serious either. Bullies, then? What kind of sense did you get from them? And for that matter..."
He tilts his head slightly to the side while he considers her. "How *did* you go about dealing with them?"
Millie White 2018-11-21 18:02:34 100733
Millie quietly continued to eat the cafeteria food as Alexis went on about the Yakuza and child-trafficking. That was weird that he knew that stuff, but not as weird as the actual truth of the matter being 'Magical beings have arrived to drain linker cores, also yeah magic exists whoops'. Her frown deepened the longer he talked until he finally hit the nail on the head and asked what happened.

"Bullies probably, yeah." She said in a guarded manner, a hand subconsciously moving to just below her ribs. Her voice was lower now, almost a hiss. "I just... fought them okay? They got a shot at my ribs before they left, that's all." Again it wasn't a lie, but it was frustratingly not the truth either. There was something else she wanted to say just at the tip of her tongue, but she held it back and scowled instead.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 18:36:38 100734
There's a very specific look on Alexis again. THe disbelieving sort. But this time, it's more focused. More digging. Trying to figure something or the other out, from what little she is saying. BEcause he damned well knows she is holding something back, but what...?
"Alright, fine," he lets out eventually, with a sigh, and pops a piece of salmon into his mouth. "You have some reason you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. We all have our secrets and reasons, what have you not."
"But you know..." Another piece of salmon, and a pause to chew and swallow, as Alexis' eyes slowly drift to look directly into Millie's own. "You know I will help, right?"
Millie White 2018-11-21 18:52:27 100735
Don't offer to help, don't offer to help, don't offer to-- Damnit. Millie's shoulders tensed ever so slightly. The thought of dragging Alexis into this whole mess was not a pleasant one, and she winced. She couldn't involve him, that was certain, but then what was she supposed to do? What was she supposed to tell him? The Canuck was fairly frustrated by now. She knew what she had to do; she had to get stronger. Strong enough that she wouldn't be a liability during a fight.

"I failed." She blurted suddenly, looking at the cafeteria food. "The kid still got hurt, and I didn't prevent a damn thing." She growled. "I need to get stronger so that doesn't happen again."
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 18:57:01 100736
At first, Alexis remains silent. Eyes firmly on her, taking in every little bit in her presence while all those words sink in her. ANd when she says all that. He remains silent for a moment after she's said it all, too.
"Well, first," he says, voice calm and even in comparison to her frustrated growling, and he pushes the bentou back towards her. "You should eat your own food. This stuff has way more protein than that processed junk, and you're going to need as much of it as you can get for recovery."
"Secondly..." His fingers drag the tray of cafeteria food back towards himself. "Tell me about how you fight."
Millie White 2018-11-21 19:03:00 100737
Millie blinked as the trays were reversed again. She looked down at the salmon and then back up at Alexis. As much as she wanted to argue, she knew he was right. So instead of wasting her breath, she huffed and started eating her bento again. At the question of how she fought, she had to take a few moments to figure out how she was going to explain it without saying 'I turn into a magical shield wielding warrior of love and justice'.

"Defensively. I know how to fight with a sword and shield because of combat reenactments, and I've taken up kendo to supplement those skills. I guess I sorta also know how to joust." She said rather succinctly. That was vague enough while giving enough information to go on, right? She sure hoped so.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 19:13:04 100738
"...I see." Alexis' eyes narrow. That might not be a very strange skillset for a student who is into things like that to have, but it is strange for someone who actually gives off the vibe of being in fights to have without any mention of actual self defense styles.
"Well, how about you recover right and proper, and once you're in full capacity, I'll teach you a couple tricks. Get you a bit of a training regiment, hm?"
    Oh dear.
Millie White 2018-11-21 19:28:26 100739
Millie looked at her lunch for a long moment, wrestling with her emotions. Deep down she knew there was no getting out of this. She knew because she and Alexis were the same in that regard. The Cure let out one last defeated sigh before nodding her head.

"Yeah... alright. I'll be fine in a day or two, Saturday at latest." She said confidently, beginning to polish off the remainder of her bento. "What kind of tricks?" She asked curiously between mouthfuls.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 19:33:48 100740
"Some hand to hand moves I've picked up along the years," Alexis offers in a way of explanation, with a shrug, eyes now drifted down to the trayful of processed cafeteria food before him, unenthusiastically picking at it with his fork. "And some... mm. Guidelines, if you will. I've spent most of my life fighting, you know, so I know a thing or two about how to get the upper hand in a fight. Even if it menas not fighting in a strictly... honorable manner."
Millie White 2018-11-21 19:43:07 100741
Millie nodded slowly as Alexis spoke. Hand to hand would be incredibly useful. Sure she had managed to create a sword last night, but the shield knight had all but shattered it in one blow. In those instances, hand to hand experience would be very useful. Her gaze narrowed gently at the mention of techniques that might not exactly be honourable, but she said nothing.

"...Thanks. You know you don't have to do this, right?" She asked, quirking a brow. He was offering his time and expertise, it was a little surprising.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 19:48:20 100742
"There's a lot of shit that I don't have to do according to a lot of people," Alexis says with a snort. "Doesn't stop me from doing them anyway. Would you just ratehr I don't do this at all?" That last question from him is accompanied by a poignant arch of his dark brow. "I mean, personally I'd rather just get in there straight and stomp on your problem myself, but you're not really letting me have that option, so I'm doing the next best thing."
Millie White 2018-11-21 19:53:26 100743
He did have a point. She had put him in an unfair position, all things considered. There was a small stretch of silence after his question as the gears spun in Millie's head. Quietly, she put her chopsticks away and packed her empty bento up. When she looked up at Alexis, she was grinning.

"You're a good guy, Raskoph. I look forward to working with you." She said with a shrewd smile.
Stahlritter 2018-11-21 19:59:01 100744
"Alexis," the older boy suddenly snaps out, with his brows knitting together in a frown. "It's Alexis. Or Alex. Either or." He almost *growls* when he says that, too. For *some* reason.
Millie White 2018-11-21 20:03:02 100745
Millie tensed at Alexis' sudden outburst, regretting it with a wince. Apparently she had struck a nerve, and expression was apologetic when she spoke to correct herself.

"Sorry. Alexis." She affirmed, making it clear that it wouldn't happen again. Curious... perhaps he wasn't as fond of his family name as first anticipated. That was actually a good thing, a tally in the evidence folder that The Raskoph's son might not be involved with their Eclipse shenanigans.
