The past few days had been unpleasant at best, and unbearable at worst for Millie. The pain wasn't the problem, really. Okay, so it was a bit of a problem, but Millie had a surprisingly high pain tolerance. The issue was that, without magic, she couldn't do what she had been doing for the last month. That meant no patrols and no fighting youma. What was a magical girl to do?

The Canadian found herself at the ECFH, cross legged on the couch with a textbook open on her lap. her left arm was in a sling while she used her right side to flip pages and scribble notes. her usual faded green long sleeved shirt was missing today, and she wore only her dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt. Overall the girl looked haggard but most people did when they were recovering. The book on her lap was entitled "The Forge and You: A Reference Guide" and for all intents and purposes, it appeared that Millie was attempting to learn how to become a blacksmith while lounging on the ECFH couch. Huh.

"Dunno where I'd even find a forge..." She mumbled under her breath, tired eyes all but glaring at the text in her lap as if it were its fault.

Miho hasn't visited the ECFH in a while, and she's decided that today's the day to break that streak. One quick jump into her new henshin later, she flies up to the balcony to see if anyone's here.

Whatever way a henshin-magic disguise works, it doesn't seem to distinguish between her current appearance and her old frilly mint-green sailor uniform; she's just instantly recognizable as Life Mahou Joy, except wearing a white and jade-green witch costume.

She blinks as she sees Millie there. "Oh, hey, Millie-san!" she says in her clear and bright voice. "What happened to you!?" Or, well, it's obvious what happened: Millie got hurt in the course of the usual magical girl business ...

Millie looked up towards the balcony entrance when she heard a commotion, only to see... Wait, that was Miho, right? She recognized her but at the same time she looked different. A warm but tired smile immediately eased onto her expression and she nodded her head in greeting. At the exclamation, she did her best to look sheepish instead of disheartened.

"Afternoon, Joy-san, it's nice to see you again." Millie greeted her kindly, shifting over so the girl could sit on the couch if she wanted. Even when in a relaxed setting, Millie couldn't seem to drop the strict naming conventions she had placed for herself. Even though no one else was around and she COULD call her friend by her name, Millie didn't. "I uh... I met Tarnished a few days ago." Her voice was clearly trying to remain positive, but there was a gruff undertone. Easing back to lean on the cushions, Millie looked up at her friend quizzically.

"You...look different." Her eyes widened when she realized how that could sound. "I mean, good different, not bad different!" The words tumbled out of her mouth and she rubbed at the bridge of her nose with her good hand. Words were hard sometimes.

Miho smiles, walking over to Millie. "You can just call me Miho here," she says. "Unless, like, there's someone from Eclipse visiting or whatever. Uh, aside from my friend Lacrima."

But then her smile vanishes and she groans as soon as Millie mentions Tarnished. "Oh, jeez, her," she says. "Yeah, she's ... kind of a pain in the butt, and she's also this self-absorbed self-righteous jerk?" She shrugs. "Anyway! Want me to heal you? This looks less ... gratuitous than Rashmi-chan, so it'll prolly be quicker."

She brightens and nods. "Yeah, basically I figured out that the Life Blessing is kind of malleable, which is sort of in line with Noroiko calling me Life Mage Joy," she says, "so I decided I wanted to become Life Witch Joy because ... uh ..." She blinks. "Oh, right. First of all, I'm trans, and I have a more correct body when I'm in henshin. Which is why my voice is so different."

Millie couldn't stop the hint of red that coloured the tips of her ears when Miho cheerfully told her to call her Miho. Part of the reason she was so careful with names was because of the Magical Girl(tm) stuff, but also because of Japan. She was a guest in an esteemed country, she just wanted to do right by them. The Canuck's smile eased slightly, but soon disappeared when Miho began speaking of Tarnished. Her emerald gaze sharpened marginally.

"Hayabusa-san and I thwarted her mining operation. She called you annoying and said she wanted to study Hayabusa-san, there was a Chimera-youma, and...." She trailed off, flexing her left hand as if missing the weight of her shield. At the offer of healing, Millie looked a bit conflicted.

"You... shouldn't have to waste magic to heal me. I'm not in a hurry and it's not like it matters anyway... I can't henshin." It was clearly a sore subject for her, but there was something else, like something she wanted to say but chose not to.

The reveal of Miho's new form and the reason for it gave Millie pause for a moment. Honestly she hadn't even picked up on the voice thing since she had spent her own life having a lower and raspier voice than typical girl. Gender was both a big and inconsequential thing for Millie, but a gentle smile that reached her eyes slowly spread across her face. This clearly made Miho happy, so that meant it made Millie happy.

"I'm glad you're figuring things out, Miho-san. Life Witch Joy is a great name for a powerful magical girl." Her gaze flickered only briefly to Miho's shadow, almost as if challenging it to disagree.

Miho also blushes slightly! Wait, no, none of that, she has a date with someone else in another week! She shakes her head. "I don't know a Hayabusa-san," she says. "But yeah, I guess I left an impression on Tarnished cuz I ran into her a couple times and fought her off both times? Dunno." She shrugs.

At Millie's protestations, she immediately blows a raspberry. "Okay, look," she says firmly. "I'm a doctor, or I mean like, a magical doctor, and ... I don't know why you can't henshin, but my number one rule is, you don't just tough it out if it's worse than just a scratch." She sighs theatrically. "No wonder you made friends with Alex-kun so easily." She sits down next to Millie, and pauses. "... And also, nothing's actually, like, 'expended'? I mean I don't have anything I'd do with my magic that I can't do because I'm healing you." She holds her hands over Millie's arm, privately taking note of the apparent soreness of the subject as she starts putting in the necessary focus for healing.

She can't help but smile at the commends about the gender issue, though.

'Leaving an impression' was putting it mildly, to the point where Tarnished almost EXPECTED Miho to appear when she started causing trouble. Millie did her best to chuckle, but it came out sounding half-hearted.

What caught her off guard was the way Miho immediately chastised her. Millie was almost indignant; she hadn't said that because she was trying to 'tough it out'! Though, the comment about Alex did make a lot of sense now that she thought about it. The Canadian's brows furrowed slightly; it looked like Miho was going to heal her whether she wanted to or not. A small suffering sigh escaped her, but she didn't object. Instead, she made Miho's job easier by carefully removing her arm from the sling so the medical mahou could work her magic.

When the arm came out of the sling, one thing was apparent; the sling had been hiding most of the bruising. It was mostly concentrated at her forearm, wrist, and elbow, but there was some bruising peeking from beneath the sleeve of her t-shirt to indicate injury at the shoulder as well. They were mostly fresh and red, but there were smatterings of blues and purples to indicate the healing process had begun.

"It looks worse than it is." Millie said softly before doing her best to put on a sheepish grin. "You reckon your minty freshness can heal dark energy blasts to the ribs?" She asked, her voice light and humorous, yet tinged with a hint of apology.
Miho Kagami 2018-12-05 03:48:44 101416
Miho looks over Millie's arm. Truth be told, she really doesn't know her way around injuries the way, say, Mamoru does. But that's part of what the Life Blessing is for. "Yeah, and, like, if there's any darkness left over, it'll heal that too," she says distractedly.

A moment later, and the jade-and-mint energy wafts over Millie, instantly easing her pain. Soon, the bruises start to fade, and the injuries slowly disappear.

After a moment (much more quickly than Rashmi), the glow fades, and Miho lowers her hands. "Okay," she says. "You can go back to school and nobody'll notice anything, but, like. No vigorous activity for a few days after this. I'd say no magical girl stuff, but if you can't henshin ..." She hesitates. "Actually, uh ... what was bugging you before, when you were talking?"

Millie had a high pain tolerance. She had been involved in different sports her whole life, and actively participated in full-contact medieval combat. The foreigner was no stranger to pain, but even she seemed to relax as Miho's healing magic worked its way into her damaged muscles. Her shoulders eased, the furrow in her brow disappeared, and probably since the night that it happened, Millie truly relaxed. Her eyes tracked the bruises as they disappeared, realizing how utterly crazy this was. All of this would have taken weeks if not a months to heal properly, and just like that, Miho had told the laws of biology to shut up and sit down.

The Canadian lifted her shirt on the left side to expose her torso, eyes and fingers inspecting the wound that had been just below her ribs... only there wasn't really anything there anymore except the Cure's toned and now fully healed physique. There was a reason they called it magic, she figured as she let her shirt fall back down.

Miho might not have been a doctor but she gave orders like one. Millie grinned and nodded to show she understood about not overdoing it for a few days. The last part caused her smile to fade just as quickly as her bruises had. Millie couldn't just brush off Miho's question, not after she had just kindly healed her sorry magicless ass. The frown returned.

"First, thanks for the healing. I really appreciate it." She said earnestly before continuing to answer Miho's question. "...I really hurt Tarnished, Miho-san. I figured she'd be susceptible to purification, but I didn't want..." She trailed off and let out a sigh. "Lacrima-san told me not to feel bad about it, but I don't like hurting people. I guess I felt like I didn't deserve the easy way out after what happened." She finished lamely but truthfully.

Miho's eyes widen as Millie tells her tale. She knows exactly how full-of-darkness Tarnished is; her first direct encounter with her (as far as she knows), she could sense her in the Life Blessing all the way in the back room of the pharmacy they were in.

And then she sighs softly, looking away. As if she was somehow responsible too. "The ... first time I met Lacchan," she says quietly, "we were at school, and she was disguised as this human named Maria Hanazawa." She looks at Millie. "Uh, that's ... public knowledge. She's not hiding being Lacrima from magic-people, just mundane-people." And then she goes back to staring forward. "The next time I met her ... I came here after Mamoru-kun explained all the magic stuff to me, and I wanted someone to talk to. And she and Alex-kun and Rashmi-chan helped me feel better about all this. And told me not to be afraid of the whole vampire thing." She shrugs. "And now I'm ... she's my best friend. I dunno if I'm her best friend, I mean I think she has people she's closer with and stuff, but ... and I mean I've been following her when she goes to ... to drain people, so I can heal and purify her ... victims." She feels kind of awkward admitting this. "... and like ... I feel awful about the fact that I can't heal her when she gets hurt, because even my healing is purification ..."

She shakes her head. "... I ... dunno where I was going with this, but, like ..." She puts a hand on Millie's shoulder, now that there isn't any danger of hurting it. "... I know how you feel."

Learning all these things about Lacrima had Millie paying attention, even if she didn't understand the context. From the sounds of it, Lacrima really didn't like hurting people either, and she was technically a bad guy. Not that Millie would ever classify her as such; Lacrima was important to Akari and now, as she found out, Miho. Lacrima was Miho's best friend, she had helped Akari and had even helped her the night Akari had teleported them here after the fight. Even if she didn't like Lacrima, which she did, that meant Lacrima was to be protected. Well... for someone else. She couldn't do much protecting without her shield...

"I guess most everyone feels awful about hurting people." She said with a sigh, looking up at Miho when she placed a hand on her shoulder. Millie didn't move away, and even let out a grateful hum. After a few moments, she leaned back on the couch. "I can't henshin because Tarnished broke my shield and it... 'knocked me out of henshin', I think was the way Hayabusa-san said it." She gestured lamely at the textbooks and reference material she was working through. "I have no access to any of my magical abilities, like accelerated healing and even mana scent. So I've been... trying to figure out how to fix it. It's going about as well as you'd expect, by the way." She added a little wryly.
Miho Kagami 2018-12-05 05:07:46 101420
Miho nods slowly, and shrugs. "I mean, 'knocked out of henshin' is one way to describe it," she says, as if she's never really thought about the idea before.

She peers at the books. "Do you know any other Pretty Cures?" she says. "-- Oh right, you mentioned Kurosawa-san." She pauses, and looks at Millie. "I, uh, have a date with Aki-san next week, by the way," she says -- slightly red-faced, but she's smiling now. "Don't tell Blue-san." She shakes her head. "But anyway, uh ... talking with another Cure, or with like Blue-san or whatever, that might be a better idea than trying to go through ..." She looks down at the books. "... well, uh, mundane' resources."
Millie White 2018-12-05 05:18:13 101421
Millie nodded; what Miho said made sense. "Things have been kinda hectic so I hadn't gotten the chance. This is probably the first time since Sunday that I've had to relax so I wanted to do something to... turn my brain off, I guess." Her tone was grim but there was a smile on her face. The mention of a date had the smile widening, and she let out a genuine laugh. It rumbled pleasantly from her chest.

"I won't say a thing to Blue-sama, Miho-san, no need to worry. The only one who should have any right to confirm that kind of stuff are you and Kurosawa-san." Millie blinked when she realized that of course Aki would have the same surname as Haruna, they were sisters. "Uh, I mean, Aki-san."
Miho Kagami 2018-12-05 05:26:55 101422
Miho nods. "Stuff like that happens," she says. "Things get ... hectic. Especially with those Wolkenritter guys causing trouble, and also the second term is gonna end in a couple weeks."

She giggles at the name confusion. "Oh, yeah," she says. "Like, that's literally happened before, hasn't it? Like when you and I first met." She blinks, and then giggles again. "... you know what, it's kind of hilarious because I actually met her as Cure Tide once before, but we didn't tell each other our real names, and I didn't find out until last week when we fought a Terribad and then she asked me out?" She shrugs. "But, uh, yeah."

She pats Millie's shoulder. "Basically, like ..." She smiles. "I can't heal magic stuff, only physical stuff," she says. "But I wanna say, don't worry. I feel like you're gonna get better."
Millie White 2018-12-05 05:36:59 101423
The thought of 'not getting better' hadn't crossed her mind, at least not until now. What would she do if she couldn't get her magic back? Was that it? Did she just... pack her bags and go home? That wouldn't feel right, not even in a hypothetical situation. If she stayed, though, she would just be in the way... The potentially defunct Cure clamped down on that train of thought. She REFUSED to entertain it. Instead the Canuck looked up at Miho and grinned.

"That did happen, didn't it? It.. kinda feels like a while ago even though it really wasn't. Time moves fast when everything is always hectic, I guess." She mused before stretching a bit now that she could move without pain. "And I am not going to let a broken shield stop me. Too stubborn for that." She offered a lopsided grin before she got to her feet. Aaah... full range of motion again felt wonderful.

"I should probably get going. I've wasted enough time sulking, I think. Thanks for healing me, Miho-san, and for talking. I... feel a lot better." Millie said warmly before moving to collect her textbooks and papers.
Miho Kagami 2018-12-05 05:42:36 101424
Miho smiles and nods, remaining seated. "No problem!" she says. "Like, I mean that. I like helping people, and healing is a great way to do that. Mamoru-kun actually offered to let me borrow his medical textbooks to see if I wanted to be a doctor as a career, too. I've been distracted training with the Life Blessing, though."

She looks around. "I'm gonna stay here," she says. "This is, like, one of the only places I can just hang around in this form? It's just, like, a little bit of extra comfort there." She smiles up at Millie. "So, I'll see you later!"
Millie White 2018-12-05 05:46:53 101425
The Canadian nodded. In Miho's situation, she could understand the need to just... hang out in a form she was comfortable in. Millie smiled, but her eyes were serious.

"Take care Miho-san, and don't stay out too late. I know I don't need to tell you it's been dangerous lately." There, worrying done. Millie hefted her backpack over both shoulders again, relishing how it evened the weight instead of dragging it down on one side. With a polite nod, she left through the front door.
