Siu is searching for magical girls. She already tried three plausible results out of the 10 or so results that has a concrete location visitable, out of the hundreds of plausible claims, out of thousands of implusible ones. Strangely most of them is in Tokyo, probably the results of the search engine customizing the results to Japanese and basing my location in Tokyo. That's good, because she can't be visiting magicals in Osaka or Hong Kong or New York.
She follows the instruction on her map app to turn to the left from the street to a back alley. It is much dimmer lit and the red lantern of most shops here dysfunctional. And there's noises coming out of it. Siu walks carefully over trash deeper into the alley.
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 15:29:07 104669
THere's noise down the alleyway, yes. It doesn't seem anything too out of place at first. Normal city life, right? But it intensifies steadily, and not just because Siu happens to be moving closer to it. THere's an odd sound mixed in-- metal hitting metal, and a more alien high pitched sound, almost like something being heated up but not quite.

ANd the apex of it all is reached explosively. WIth a loud sound, a shockwave of pressure blows out, shaking the ground and sending loose items flying through the air

But perhaps more important than that, is the fact that something flies from just around the corner into her view and slams against a wall with enough force to severely damage the masonry, sending a spiderweb of cracks running across a good length of the wall with a massive hole left behind on the first layer of it where a large, vaguely humanoid-shaped robot got smacked into.

A robot. It's easy enough to recognize it as such, with all the gunmetal armor plating covering it-- and wiring and more intricate machinery exposed where the armor is broken, with oddly-colored sparks flickering out while the machine twitches this way and that in an effort to move.

Just a split second after that, another figure follows. A figure almost as large speeds over from around the corner and slams a large, black-and-red gauntlet open-palmed against the robot's chest to pin it in place, while another hand drives in through the broken plating. In the next instant, the robot falls completely still, slumped between the wall and the armored man in a sleeveless longcoat.

"...?" Some realization within situational awareness sinks in in that figure, then. And without drawing his hand away from the robot's interior, the helmet turns to direct the glowing, fiery t-shaped visor looking towards the girl down the alley. WIth the helmet covering his facial features, it's not exactly easy to read his facial expression, but since he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to move away from... er, his current position, he probably doesn't consider her to be a threat.
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 16:03:35 104670
Robots. And supoosedly combat capable ones? Siu immediately jumps to the conclusion, it's not legal for sure, she knows that nobody had the technology to create these that also said it aloud, so this must be one of those secret projects by either one of them. As far as she knows, US didn't deploy any UAVs in Japan but even if they did why would she know. More importantly, she knows that without a doubt she is looking at a magical girl right now. With that kind of strength and speed the person in front of him is a clearly dangerous person, not helped by her covered face brimming full of unknown, but her sense of danger is tempoarily surpassed by her curiosity.
"Hello? You are a magical girl, aren't you?"
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 16:09:10 104671
"...Nh." It's a low sound, somewhere within the armored figure's throat. For a good moment, that visor just stares back at Siu in silence otherwise, until finally-- the gauntlet-bearing hands are yanked back, and the one that withdraws from the robot's interior comes with... some kind of chip held between the fingers? WHatever it is, it gets slipped underneath that longcoat. So unfitting for the rest of the getup, that, where the armor is so Knightly and the coat is something not unlike a stereotypical japanese thug might wear-- just without sleeves, for whatever reason.

"...Do I look that much like a girl?" a rumbling voice booms out then, from within the helmet. The facial expression is still hidden beneath the faceplate, but somehow, the visor might actually look a bit... put off?
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 16:29:03 104672
"Right, a magical boy. I guess they don't discriminate these days, ahaha~~" Siu tries to cover her embrassment and stupidity with a sheepish laugh and smile accompanying that. Potential consequences runs in her head again. Magical boys, does that mean Kyubey will contract them as well, or does it mean someone other than Kyubey is making magical girls? And now he's doing something seemingly important, this definitely imply something deeper than it would already suggest. Either way her main objective is halfway accomplished, so she just needs to do the remaining steps.
"Nice to meet you for the first time, I'm Sa Siu. Do you know this little creature by chance?" Siu remembers to at least keep her basic manners before asking the most innocent of all the questions she wants to ask, showing her phone with Kyubey roughly drawn on it because he somehow can't be captured on camera.
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 16:36:46 104673
With the armored man slowly straightening up, with the robot fully and properly dealt with, the full size of him probably sinks in, too. He's *tall*. Taller than the average japanese man, for certain-- but then, that slightly modulated voice does hold just a hint of a foreign accent to it, even if the japanese words themselves are impeccably fluent.

For another moment, he just stares at the girl. Probably trying to figure out just what is up with this random, probably non-powered girl just approaching him like this out of the blue and thinking him a girl first?

But then she says that name. Kyubey. And the armored man immediately stiffens up visibly. "...Tch." SLowly, he turns to fully face Siu, he takes a few purposeful steps towards her. It might seem menacing, but he comes to a stop before getting too close to her, and leans down just enough to peek at the phone.

"...Explains your confusion," he growls, before straightening back up. "I know Kyubey. But I haven't dealt with any of his garbage. He doesn't give deals to us menfolk, anyhow. I take it he's been going all silver tongue on you?"
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 16:53:48 104674
(Alright, he's tall. Taller than I am for sure, and even some of my sempais.) Siu thought as she taks in the full scale of just who she is talking to. He looks really threatening as she approached her, but Siu keept calm and only took half a step back before she steadies herself and reaches for her can of pepper spray stored in a mostly hidden component on the interior of her windbreaker. He didn't get uncomfortably close before she stopped, but Siu kept her alert and held her pepper spary tight just in case.
"Indeed. What would you recommend-" Siu let only part of that question slip through before she realized he is clearly not friendly to Kyubey and shut up. She changed to a hopefully more neutral question, "What makes Kyubey garbage, beside appraently his bias to girls?"
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 17:00:23 104675
"Mmmrrh... I don't care about him only going for girls, even if it s a bit weird," he claims with a slow shake of that helmet-covered head from side to side. "From what I understood it's just some laws of the universe regarding how 'his' power works. I can't make much sense of it, but it is what it is. More importantly..." Slowly, his thick arms, with the muscular biceps exposed for whatever, fold up loosely together over his chest. "I know girls who have taken his deal. It's.... Mmmrh. It's a complicated matter. There are things that I've made an oath not to speak about, regarding it all... But you should, at the very least understand, is that I doubt he will intentionally tell you everything you should rightfully know. And that a lot of people haven't been able to handle it."

His helmet tips just slightly so, after that, to direct the visor peering at her arm. "And by the way," he says, in complete deadpan. "You can let go of whatever you have under there. I'm not that kind of guy" Oh, he's observant too, evidently.
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 17:18:41 104676
Siu at first clutches her spray even harder, but then relents and took her hand back out empty. If he wants to hurt her he can trivially, but he doesn't and has been willing to talk. That's enough to conclude that he will not turn hostile and that resistance is futile, so she better not earn his irritation. She carefully considers what exactly does he mean. So Kyubey is hiding things, and it's a *big* deal, enough that people can't handle, it, whatever that could possibly mean. He even considers that truth a private matter, such that he refuses to open up on it. On the other hand, what does he stand to gain with lying or otherwise to prevent me from contracting? ...Nothing really, he doesn't deal with Kyubey so there are probably no conflict of interest there.

"Why did you pick a fight with that robot?" Siu tried to picked the question with the highest chance to yield something interesting from several options.
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 17:24:58 104677
His head tips slightly when he sees her draw out her arm. "It's not bad to be careful like that though," he murmurs then. "If you are in a place like this. But that's a lecture someone other than me should hold, I think."

Upon her question, he tilts his head back slightly, just so that he can peek over one broad shoulder back towards the wreck of the robot. "...mmmh. I would like to say it picked a fight with me first, but... That's a story much too long for a place like this. Let's just say it was sent by... someone who is not a good person."

With another tilt of his head, his visual attention returns back to her. "But regarding that rat... Hmm. The fact that you're trying to find out more instead of just accepting it first... That tells me you're smart, at the very least. So tell me. What was your first instinct, when it came to you?"
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 17:50:49 104678
That failed. Oh well. He has his own questions too. Alright, guess it's not to be all take and not give anything back. Siu thinks back to that moment, when she was browsing the net for roleplayers and their experiences at making various wishes, and coming up with one of her own full of legalese. That's when a sound in her mind saying she can actually make all that come true. She see it, that white mascot, with a smile in his face offering everything I can concive and more, for but a comparatively small price. Sounded too good to be true, and appraently her she's right accroding to the person infront of her right now. As for what pops up in her mind when she first herad the offer, that's obvious enough.

"The sort of things any munchkin worth her salt would think. Post scarcity society, technological singularity, P=NP, omnipotence. Second thought, something more down to earth but still wild like unlimited wealth and world peace." Siu answers honestly in detail, "And even now I'm having more ideas."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 17:59:43 104679
"...Uh." THat's the only sound the armored man makes in response to that, with merely an akward stare following after.

( Smart was an understatement, I guess. This girl's mind is in completely different places from where kids her age should be at!!!)

OUtwardly, he remains otherwise stoic, however. "...I see," he eventually grunts out, before continuing. "I sincerely doubt things like 'unlimited wealth' and 'world peace' would be... things you would want to ask for, if you did go for it. They require too many paradoxes to remain a constant, don't you think? Not to mention interference in free will."

"Either way..." Those thick arms unfold slowly, to fall at his sides. "It wouldn't be right for me to tell you not to do it at all, especially since I am vowed to withholding certain things. But... word of advice, at least. THe road that comes after what Kyubei offers to you is not an easy one. It's dangerous-- not just for you, but for people around you. And it comes with duties beyond what he already spoke of, and the need to... take close care of yourself. Not just for your own sake, but for the sake of everyone else. Your life will change completely, and not for the better in all aspects. And there's no going back."

A low sound muffles into his helmet-- a sigh, perhaps? "...There's a certain level of admirability, I find, in the willingness to take up that kind of duty, if I am being honest. But it's also... ruined the lives of some friends. You have to be ready for everything that comes after. THe duty and all the unpleasant changes and surprises along the way."
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 18:22:16 104680
Siu can almost feel the suprise she gave with that answer. He raises good points, although none that she haven't considered already. He once again offered warning, but no actual details is revealed. Although for that last thing, she definitely has something to say about it.
"'But if I reflect on myself and find myself to be right, then even if it be an army of one hundred thousand, I will go forward'. Mencius said that. Everybody who made the contract must have searched their feelings, knew them to be true, then with their reason to fight they wouldn't have regretted even at the very last moment."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 18:28:21 104681
"...Real read up on stuff, aren't you?" he murmurs, with just the faintest hint of amusement in his voice.

Slowly, his boulder-sized shoulders roll around once, with silent consideration given to the girl again. "...Well. Like I said. It comes down to your choice. I merely want you to understand that it is... It comes down as a very selfless endeavour, in the end. You can't effectively do it for your own sake, considering the sacrifices that come with it. That is to say... If you decided to do it for the sake of being able to fight for others? Then it truly wouldn't be right for me to try to stop you. Afterall..." His arms unfold, and one fist turns to tap against the left side of his chest. "... I'm not any different in that regard."
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 18:41:48 104682
"I pride myself in my readings, so thank you." Siu doesn't keep humble on that, if she isn't a bookworm she is nothing. She does know very well what she is talking about, or at least she is confident she does, but that mood diminishes a bit when she sees the stout boy taps his chest. He must have uncountable weight on his back too. It wouldn't be appropiate to pretend she understands what it truly entails until she joins his ranks as a magical herself, so she had to keep it simple.

"I'll take your advice seriously."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-28 18:45:15 104683
"THat's good," he murmurs, with a nod. But without waiting this time around for the next point in their conversation, he instead goes on to immediately ask of her; "If there wasn't any wish-granting involved beyond being given power as... mh. Magical girl..." Evidently he finds that term incredulous still, for some reason. "...Why would you want to become one? How would you use that power?"
Sa Siu 2019-04-28 19:04:50 104684
Another question she had answer to, but this time not as intelligent as as what she had for the wish itself. "Does 'going on a power trip' count? But more seriously, power can be a goal in and of itself. Although that's not what I am after. My end my power would be the means to is a more equal world. Adults says the world isn't fair all the time, so how about we go change that. There are oppression and inequality all over the world, I will take them down. At least, the parts the grownups cannot do. Replacing that with a working system is their task." Then her eyes dims as she lowers her voice, "Although given the track records of us I can't be too optimistic."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 15:51:26 104685
"Careful," he rumbles out, arms returning to crossing up along his armored chest. "The world is just as complicated as it is unfair-- too much so for changing something like that wil not be easy. Certainly not without side effects you may gome to regret... assuming you didn't lose your way in the pursuit of it, anyhow. I have seen it happen too many times." A slow side to side shake of the helmet. "... That being said, it isn't still wrong to do what we can to try to make the world a better place. A safer place. Just... power should never be seen as something that gives you free reign to impose your will on others."

The way the light seems to fade from Siu's eyes with her last statement might be touching something within him, though. And so, he unfolds his arms and shifts a bit closer, settling one large, steel-clad hand on her shoulder. "Us humans... We are, in many ways, awful and terrible. But that doesn't mean we don't have the capacity to be beautiful, too. It's up to each and every one of us to try to be the best we can be amongst us. That responsibility is even greater with people like me. And maybe--" The steel hand gives a gentle squeeze to her shoulder, then. "Maybe you, too. Even in the face of everything else involved with Kyuubey... *that* is our greatest challenge."
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 16:42:28 104686
"I am not sure what else power should be used for, if not change things for the better. I get what you mean though, what is good for the goose might not be good for the gander. Umm... If we all fought for what's right, the world would be in eternal war. Does that imply some degree of subservience is always required for stability? On the other hand, I'm not sure how much drive people would have to improve if the don't fight for what they think is right. Or am I confusing the pursue of justice with tribalism? Does having a particular brand of justice and acting on it imply tribalism? What is the biggest common interest for all of humanity..."

Her deep dive into the rabbit hole of being a human is interrupted by a hand on her shoulder, firm but not tight and hard but gentle. And then some more about Kyubey and his danger. But it's so comforting she cares about that part less, she just wants to be reassured like that. "What example would you give on us humans being beautiful or terrible?" Despite her negative atheism the first thing that come into her mind is religous figures for beauty, but she can't actively thinks of anyone that fits that part of horrible without invoking Godwin's law. "Can people be evil for the sake of it?"
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 17:15:36 104687
It's probably a good thing that there's a helmet concealing the Knight's facial features, since the spiral of philosophy that Siu falls down brings some... rather concerned and confused twists in his facial muscles that would otherwise be seen.

"Let's see..." His hand draws away from her shoulder, and moves on over to rub along the side of his neck for a moment, instead. "...It's strangely more difficult to consider an example of someone 'beautiful' in this sense. Especially so without pointing at someone specific... But it'd be someone who is able to care for all the people around them, and not inflict any selfish violence upon anyone. The ability to care even for people who aren't that fond of them." His shoulders slump a bit, after that. "...Dreadful people are too easy to think examples of, on the other hand. I've seen too many. Human traffickers on the non-powered side, people who seek power that feeds on the life of others on the powered side... Anyone who seeks advancement at the expense of someone else. People... can certainly be evil just for the sake of evil, too. They are more extreme cases, but I've seen it, too. I wouldn't want to call them human at all anymore at that point, but it wouldn't be right to deny the capacity for evil we have. But... people like that who explicitly act for selfish reasons aren't the only ones who can be terrible. Even those who try to do what they think is right can do terrible things. Single-minded focus can lead to it. That's why I'm telling you to be careful about imposing the desire for a better world too hard on people. If our world could be turned into an utopia without any collateral, someone amongst us 'powered' people would have already done it. Interfering with the order of things can do more harm than good."
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 17:55:53 104688
"I'm not sure that's what I meant. When I say people who are evil just for the sake of it I mean it. Human traffickers are evil, but they at least want profit. Power seeking at the expense of others is evil too, but they at least want power out of it. I'm talking about evil that doesn't have a reason, if people can have evil as a goal just as they can power or good. A utility function that's just a negative of what normal people have... I don't believe it for a second. There have to be a reason, and if there is a reason there is a way."

She thinks backs to history, " Is it 'Prosper, and the people suffer. Wither, and the people suffer.' ...No, that's stupid. There are instances of steps being taken to better people's lives, and indeed at the expanse of much suffering, but what they did stood the test of time, and has been remembered as positive. Do you hear the people sing..." Siu turns resolute, and hums in confidence of her conviction.
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 18:11:54 104689
"No, no, those were examples of people just being terrible overall," he corrects, with his hand held up to make a little side-to-side motion with it in the air just before him. "Those were distinct from people being just thoroughly evil for the sake of evil itself. Who I *have* met a few of, too."

And then there's plenty of staring sent down at the girl after... well, that. Behind the faceplate, there's a slooooow blink of the eyes. Not that she can see it, but she might be able to pick up on it anyway from just the sheer length of silence from him while he stares at her.

"... You are an odd little cat."
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 18:25:09 104690
Really... that made Siu's entire worldview crumble, starting from the ant's nest of the fact that people can be evil just for the sake for being evil, meaning there's exists unsolvable conflicts between good and them, which screams the conclusion of violence... But Siu is stubborn, and her dam of worldview patches back up with the fact that pure evil isn't synonymous with irredeemable evil, and communication and mutual understanding is still the key to it all.

Then there si the stare and the dead air, clearly smelling of his disapproval or at least concern. And to his comment, Siu has only one obvious thing to say...

"I am."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 18:34:33 104691
"...Nothing wrong with that, I suppose," the Knight allows, with a brief rub given to the side of his neck again.

"...I should probably mention. I was very close to a girl who took Kyubey's deal and hadn't ended up that well, so--" Shoulders roll around slowly. "That might be painting my... opinions on the matter. And why I'm so invested now, I guess." There's a low sigh muffling into his helmet, and the visor is turned off to the side, assumably to avert his gaze from Siu for a moment.

"...What are you going to do?"
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 18:41:23 104692
Figures. Why else would he refuse to just spill the truth about Kyubey other than that, if the truth is so important? And so that leaves Siu one thing to do,

"I am going to find answers."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 18:50:33 104693
"...I see." Slowly, he nods his head with that. Apparently that's all he is willing to say any more on that particular matter, for now.

But what he does do is hold out one large, metallic hand, with the palm facing upwards. "Give me your phone for a second?"
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 18:59:54 104694
Siu thinks for a bit, then complies. Should be easy to see what he wants to do. "Here you go."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 19:04:41 104695
With the phone placed on his hand, he tips his head slightly, and... "Go ahead, Krieg."

    << JAWOHL >>

It's a peculiar, synthesized sound that speaks out the single german word -- and it's *loud*. And kind of sounds like it's coming from the gauntlet? There's no visible cue for what actually happens, though, and just a two seconds later, he's already holding the phone back to her.

"There. The number for the phone I use with this guise is in there. It's under 'Stahlritter'. Let me know when you make your decision, alright? Or if you need help with anything at all."
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 19:12:24 104696
And that fully confirms Siu's suspicion fromt he start for the most part, that Stahlritter, appraently, is not a result of Kyubey but created using some other means. Siu swipes her phone a bit and finds said number. And she would like to find out more about the voice, but it is getting late and she should come home.

"Alright, I will. Thank you for you help today."
Alexis Raskoph 2019-04-29 19:17:42 104697
"I didn't do all that much," Stahlritter claims, while he starts turning away from her. "...Also, be more careful going down alleys like this when it's late, alright? It's not safe."
Sa Siu 2019-04-29 19:22:27 104698
Siu makes a nod that turns into a light bow and starts walking back out to the main street, finding her way home. This has been a very fruitful conversation, and Siu does not feel the need to goes down her list until tomorrow.
