Late Night Attack

Guardian Hino, under the influence of Rising Crash, attacks Homura. Tuxedo Kamen and Princess Runealy intervene, but Homura is on death's door.

Homura Akemi leaps from rooftop to rooftop. She's listening to her feelings, paying close attention to the magical despair that gives away her prey. To those who know her, it's pretty clear what she's doing. She's hunting for Witches, and tonight she's hunting alone.

The cold wind flips her hair back as she pauses on a roof, narrow eyes scanning the streets beneath her. Tonight was unlucky. She wasn't finding any Witches. At best she found some weaker youma that ran off after she made a scary face at them. Whatever their evil scheme was, Homura didn't care. She wasn't dedicated enough to stop them.

After a heavy sigh, she mumbles, "... another dull night. Maybe I should just head back."
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 03:11:42 9570
Rooftop hopping. The favorite past time of the Mahou Shoujo. Face it. Ground travel didn't cut it when you could leap or fly or dart through the night and saving people from forces of darkness. Sometimes though, that darkness wasn't particularly obvious. Sometimes. You were carrying it with you all along.

Guardian Hino is hopping through the night. He was dragging that device along-- what was it called? Lost Logia? With him. He felt it could be of use. Maybe it could drain people? He wasn't sure. He wanted to find out....

He spots the figure of Homura hopping not too far away. He has a vaugeness of who that is.... That's Homura. A Puella Magi. Friends with that Miss White? A tHeART to WalDIA?

It really wasn't clear when that last thought entered his head but for some reason it made perfect sense as it had always been true.

"IGNITION....!" Guardian Hino called out as a firebolt raced from his gauntleted hand towards the Puella Magi.
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 03:16:00 9571
'The Princess' has a somewhat different opinion of the minor monsters roaming the Tokyo night. Where Homura has been content to lose interest in them if they lost interest in her - perhaps justifiable, given the limitations Soul Gems place upon their owner - Runealy has instead opted to skirmish with them. That she never came into contact with Homura, despite possibly having monsters scattered and thus easier to find and attack thanks to the Puella Magi's efforts, is perhaps odd.

Regardless, they're not the main reason Runealy is out tonight. Destroying or damaging them is simply an apology to the people of Tokyo, some means to make up for her real purpose: She is out hunting, just as Homura is. The difference is their choice of targets: the alien princess looks for people to hurt, to take energy from. "Should have about two more months," she remarks to herself while wandering the alleys of Mitakihara. "Just need to make a few more big pushes before we go home."

These prospects leave her unhappy, but she continues her patrol in the hopes of finding the likes of Sailor Jupiter or Mars, or any of Tokyo's other wonderful heroes who have the energy she is so desperate to steal for her own use.

Perhaps these thoughts weigh her down too much to notice the fight. Perhaps she's too low to the ground to see it, as Hino attacks from the rooftop. Or at the moment, she may well just be too far away to notice what's happening.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 03:21:05 9572
Ground travel means that you might run across actual people. Why would you ever want to do that? What if they ask about your costume? What if they ask other embarassing questions? What if they call the cops because you're carrying firearms? Better to just jump around.

Homura hears someone shout an attack name and turns towards the source. The firebolt catches her by surprise and she just barely raises her shield in time to absorb the hit. The fire splashes over her shield and singes the hem of her sleeve, but most of the damage is absorbed by her henshin.

"And who the heck are you?!" demands Homura. "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?" Homura has run across a number of magical people in her day. Maybe Hino was one of them? She can't remember.

Homura reaches behind her shield and retrieves a pistol, lining the sights up with Hino and pulling the trigger a couple of times.

"Don't think that you can just pick a fight with me!"
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 03:32:36 9573
Hino has straight up bullets shot at him. He isn't faster than bullets----so they ping off magical armor. They still hurt. Humans don't handle bullets to the chest very well otherwise. Hino reaches for the sword. He hasn't noticed that the Lost Logia that may be hanging off his belt now, has begun a charging countdown.

The pain does make him pause a moment. Why did he just do that?

Oh, right.

He draws the sword and leaps into the air, down at Homura as it lights on fire. He attempts to come down on her hard.

This is not a fast attack.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 03:43:56 9574
The enemy keeps coming. Homura frowns and furrows her brow. As Hinote closes the distance, Homura starts to reach for her shield, but...

How many Grief Seeds do you have?

You can't afford to do that.

She grits her teeth and holds up her shield again. A purple barrier appears around her and Hino's blade smashes into it. Her shield struggles against the flaming blade for a moment before the purple barrier shatters, letting the blade in. "No!"

The impact from the hit sends Homura flying backwards, landing in a rolling pile of hair and angst. Her shield now has a large dent running down the middle. It might break outright if it takes another hit like that.

It takes a moment for her to move after that hit. She props herself up on her hands, then her knees, one foot, then the other. When she finally does stand up, she is glaring at Guardian Hino.

"The heck did I ever do you, jerk?"

She produces a grenade and throws it at Hino, and follows it up with another, and yet another on top of that. "I'm warning you! Back off!"

This could be a serious problem if this guy doesn't leave.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 03:50:44 9575
'What did I ever do to you jerk?' it's another odd moment. He has to actually pause for a second. The device continues to charge....

ThREAT. THREAT. PriNCESS THREAT!. It's not quite a voice in his head, but more like instincts being fed to him and it feels wrong and right all at once.

"You!? You're a the Princess!" he insists. This is not the case.

He gets blasted by a grenade. This causes him to be flung across rooftops.

He manages to land on his feet barely before he levels his sword down at Homura, and shoots a stream of fire from the time. "BURNING IGNITION!....." he calls out.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 03:57:40 9576
"Oh my god it was an accident! I didn't know she was your princess!" What's she even talking about? Only Homura knows. Maybe she thought it was a better response than 'what?'.

The stream of fire comes out, and Homura actually tries to dodge this time, since her shield isn't really in any condition to help her. She manages a quick leap to the side, which spares most of her body, but her long flowing hair gets caught up in it and set on fire.

Henshin magic stops her hair from staying on fire for long, but there's kindof a cloud of smoke where some of her hair used to be.

Homura brings out a sniper rifle this time, looking down the scope at Hino before firing a few rounds of hypervelocity bullets. It's probably her most effective weapon at range, though it's also pretty bulky.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 04:09:32 9577
Guardian Hino has sniper bullets shot at him. This is really odd--- and Hino manages to dive to the right. Two ping off his armor. One sticks into it. It hurts. It hurts a lot. But this really only makes that thing on his hip charge /faster/... and soon, it's insisting it's done charging....!

EnD It.

"....RISING... CRASH!" he calls out. The device lights up. His sword lights up. Hino lights up in red energy which shoots up into the sky----then suddenly being flung downward into his sword, as what amounts to some sort of red death fire laser emits from the tip of the sword. It's an incredibly powerful hit that's most likely the powerfulest thing that's ever been fired from that sword------ and in fact, causes the sword to shatter in steel shards out from the blast. Magical Fireswords reform in time, but for now it leaves Hino with a broken half-longsword.

He has to take a deep breath because channeling hell into you kinda sucks for a moment.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 04:16:38 9578
Homura doesn't even have time to react before the red fire laser smashes into her. There's no time to raise her shield, no time to do a timestop, and no time to get out of the way. There's only the sudden, brutal energy crashing into her, washing over her, engulfing her as she lets out a loud shriek.

The knockback from the blast sends her over a few roofs, not stopping until she smashes headfirst into an air conditioning unit. She slides down to the ground, barely able to move.

Her breath is ragged, her eyes are barely open. Blood trickes down her forehead and further down her chin, and another trickle goes in front of her ear and down her cheek. Her whole body shakes as she tries to breath. She wants to stand, but her legs don't even respond.

She's afraid. More than she has been in a very long time. Her hand reaches for her shield, but she doesn't even have the strength to touch it.

The worst thing is that she still has no idea what this is about.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 04:28:32 9580
Then things get errie quiet as he stands there. He looks down at his sword. He frowns a bit. He blinks. Why did he ju......

Take it.

"Right...?" he blinks. It feels like. He's forgetting something. Something important, but something isn't really letting him remember. It's doing a good job of fucking with his head.

So Hino leaps through the air and with a wave of a hand makes one of those crystals appear. He slowly touches it down to Homura.

This isn't particularly going to end well.
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 04:30:29 9581
Some distance away, 'The Princess' hears a noise she can't quite identify as Homura's shots ring out just at the edge of hearing range. "Hn? That's nothing I hear back home, but I haven't heard it around Tokyo often either. What is it? Is... ...ah!?" An obvious red light pierces the dark sky, and suddenly being unable to identify 'the very edge of gunfire noise' isn't as important.

Mentally tracing the light to where it likely landed, she her boot-wings light up with silver light, hurtling her to a roof and then to the next, then another... and then she sees who's involved. Did someone attack Homura, and Hino showed up just in time to help?

No. A chill runs through her as she sees what he's doing, as an energy line starts to flow to one of the crystals she provided Hino to use in draining others. It makes no sense to her that he's doing this, when she insisted Puella Magi are off limits, and a mix of confusion and horror cut through her thoughts. "Wh... n... Hino... what... why!? Stop!" Her wand aims at the gap between him and Homura, firing a thin red beam. She's aiming to intentionally miss both, unwilling to hurt either of them, but she's trying to force Hino to back off. "What are you doing!?"
Mamoru Chiba 2015-09-14 04:39:07 9582
And then out of absolutely nowhere, a black and red and white blur slams into Hino at the same time as the thin red beam's cutting through the air: a Tuxedo Kamen-shaped missile, which skids on dress shoes to stop himself, transfer all that kinetic energy to Hino.

Lightning-fast, he snatches up the prone Homura to his chest without looking at her further, yet, and shields her with his arms and his cape as he jumps to the top of the HVAC unit she'd slammed into moments before. "You keep him the FUCK away from us," he commands the princess, almost snarling, as he starts checking Homura's vitals, her injuries-- her soul gem.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 04:41:44 9583
Homura's eyes go wide as the crystal touches against her. She doesn't know what it is, but it doesn't seem friendly. Especially not after everything else that Hino has done tonight. The word 'Transfer' is uttered, and Homura starts to object. Her voice is little more than a weak whisper.

"W-wait... you don't know what you're doing... don't...!"

The energy starts to transfer, and her eyes go blank and dead. The purple gem on her hand begins to turn dangerously black, evil clouds covering its once purple surface. Her henshin fades away, and she isn't moving.

It looks worse than it is, but it's still pretty bad. Homura is having an out-of-body experience, as her Soul Gem looks upon the rest of her, disconnected.

It's a struggle not to give into despair, so close to its edge as she is, but it's a fight she's been fighting all her life. Still, it terrifies her. Is she dead? Is this what that's like?

She's strangely aware of Runealy's attempts to cause Hino to back off, but not because of sight. It's more like she just feels her there... So, that was the princess he was talking about. She said she wouldn't attack Puella Magi... maybe that was a lie. Another reason why Homura can't rely upon others.

Is that Tuxedo Kamen? Really? Maybe there's someone she can depend upon after all, though she worries that it might be a bit late...

From the outside, Homura's current condition looks scary and awful. She really does seem like a warm corpse at this moment. Especially with that dead, empty stare. Maybe someone should close her eyes because it really does look creepy.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 04:56:40 9584
Something really strange happens to Hino.

Something hard and fast knocks him across the rooftop and sends that blue crystal, filled with some of Homura's energy spinning from his hand where it skitters across the rooftop. Of course that isn't the odd thing.

From Hino's point of view, he saw Homura hopping across rooftops-- perhaps thinking of just waving her down in the back of his head......

Then he's sort of being flung across a rooftop--- much like a really shoddy jumpcut in his head. Tuxedo Kamen yells something--- a thin red beam flys between him and the Puella Magi he saw earlier...

...and The Princess is in extra super worry mode asking what Hino his doing. He emenates pure confusion until he realizes he's also holding his sword and it is shattered.

The terror in his heart is suddenly /palpable/. "W-what!?" he calls out he actually drops his sword. "I didn't....." babbling. "Why would I...!?"

"O..oh god..."

He doesn't even confront Runealy, he just begins running to the right and attempting to get down into the alleyway.

He has no idea what just happened but a lot of bad feelings are telling him bad things at the moment. Runealy can probably chase him easily enough. Tuxedo Kamen probably has more important things to worry about.

Like letting Homura not die.
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 05:00:42 9585
Runealy starts to move toward Homura and Hino, only to stop when Tuxedo Kamen arrives and slams in to her sworn friend. "You!? Where did you..." No, 'where' is not important right now. "I don't even..." She has no coherent reply to him.

Instead, her attention turns to Hino. 'The Princess' speaks with none of the forced melodrama she normally uses to try to impress others, hoping it makes herself seem mysterious or powerful. Instead, she speaks with shaky voice and tiny gasps punctuating her words. "I don't know either, but... no! Come back!" She starts to chase after him, but instead heads for the crystal after just a few steps. Despite moving for it, intending to pick it up, she continues to call out, "Come back!" She's not angry, she's terrified.

A hurried remark is made over to Tuxedo, "I know you have no reason to trust me right now, but do not take her away yet. Just don't, it's absolutely important!" She speaks with wavering eyes, voice high-pitched with worry as she begs him to not bring Homura elsewhere.
Mamoru Chiba 2015-09-14 05:07:32 9586
The gloves are off: Kamen doesn't close Homura's eyes, not at first; he's got his bare hand cradling her head, and he's patting her pockets just in case she has a grief seed on her; he's doing his best to heal her body of the damage it's taken because he knows he can't heal her soul-- but he knows what can.

His blue eyes are hard, behind that mask, as he glances down toward Runealy. "If you've got something to do, do it now, Highness. You don't have time to help her and catch him. If you go after him, I'm taking her away. Choose."
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 05:12:15 9588
Homura only has one Grief Seed on her, in her front pocket. She's got a chain through it, like one might wear for a necklace. It's only about half-used at this point.

The rest of her body isn't difficult to heal. The energy in it is very lacking, and she's bleeding in some places, but aside from that she doesn't really seem like she should be dying.

She can't really do much but lie limply in Kamen's arms. At leas her Soul Gem isn't getting any worse.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 05:12:18 9589
Guardian Hino has run all of ten feet.

He's sort of kneeling over next to a dumpster in that alleyway.

He's trying to remember what happened. He cannot.

He's far enough away from the others that he can't hear anything at least. He's not particularly hiding too hard.

He's most definitly crying because he's certain he just did what he think he did.
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 05:14:47 9590
'Choose.' Runealy looks down, stricken and wordless as her gaze turns heavy. She wants to find out why Hino did this, but she weighs questions against... "...She might be dead." For most people, she knows what that would entail. She has seen it up close and personal, and found it to be one of the most frightening things imaginable.

However, the operative term is 'might be.' Maybe she's already dead but can be brought back if action is taken now. Or perhaps she's just short of death's door. These thoughts guide her choice, and she jogs over to Homura and Tuxedo Kamen.

With the crystal in hand, she sets it beside Homura's Soul Gem. "Stop. Let me try this before you do anything else. And don't interrupt me... if I do this right, it... it should go back to her."

Runealy hops back a few steps, and unless Tuxedo Kamen moves to interrupt her actions... she begins a series of slow spins and pivots, twirling her wand in wide circles and figure-eight patterns. It's an odd display, made odder as she is starting to sob while doing this; crying as her friend is, just in front of others rather than near the trash.
Mamoru Chiba 2015-09-14 05:22:21 9591
Tuxedo Kamen stays put, since the princess is acting now: and this is something he'll trust her to do.

She cries too much to be a villain.

In the background, he can hear Hino crying as well; Runealy had been shocked and horrified; he can remember Hino promising him he wouldn't go after children, either. And Hino brought him to Iris after that other time...

Gripping the soul gem he's found on a chain in Homura's front pocket in his other hand, he continues the steady stream of his own energy into Homura's inert body, a boy-sized life support system while Runealy dances and performs mudras and weeps.

He's silent for a long moment, not interrupting, but he whispers to Homura, "I remember where you keep them. Hang in there, Homu-chan."
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 05:32:57 9592
For the next minute or so, Runealy continues to dance and wand-twirl. The crystal responds to this, with Homura's purple energy rising out of the jewel as a wavy line of mist. Some of it simply snakes around, finds nowhere to go, and evaporates. Then the rest of it connects to the Soul Gem, and... begins returning, undoing some of the harm that has been wrought. Eventually, every bit of the energy Hino took begins to float in the air and begins its slow return to its rightful owner.

Yet when the process is about half-way complete... Runealy suddenly spasms and coughs, falling to her knees! "Hgk!? H... c..." Her wand drops. A few tiny bits of Homura's energy manage to return just before this happens, but the rest of it dissipates into the thin air... wasted. It is gone, no longer in the crystal nor back in Homura's Soul Gem.

The princess is clutching her hands at her throat, gasping syllables out. "Ca... h... hh! Ca...! B... hhk!" She doubles over, face buried to the concrete rooftop as she thrashes and coughs and chokes.
Mamoru Chiba 2015-09-14 05:37:11 9593
"HINO," yells Tuxedo Kamen, "I don't care what you're upset about: if you care for your princess, she needs you now! I know you're still close, I can hear you! Don't make me split my energy between the girl you hurt and the one you serve-- come help her!"

And timing be damned, he moves to touch the half-used grief seed to Homura's soul gem.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 05:42:14 9594
Purple energy seeps into the soul gem on Homura's hand, and also into where her heart would be. Her eyes begin to look a little less dead, and she takes a sudden, ragged breath as life starts back up again.

Her once limp body is now shaking, though Homua avoids moving it because moving is painful. Her eyes blink once before focusing on Tuxedo Kamen and then on Runealy.

She tries to speak. She coughs instead. She feels so... so... weak right now.

The grief seed touches against Homura's Soul Gem. Darkness comes out of her Soul Gem, restoring its own purple shine, but there's so much to take in that the Grief Seed becomes dangerously dark. It'll have to be disposed of soon.

Homura frowns down at it, and then looks up at Mamoru.

"Kamen-kun..." her voice is weak, barely a whisper. "... what is this...? she said... she wouldn't attack... so why..."

Homura really has no idea what this is, but she almost died over it so it's suddenly of great importance to her.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 05:43:37 9595
There's a very long pause.

Did Hino run away?

No, he's back up on the rooftop. He's looking particularly dead inside at the moment. It's probably surprsing he's still henshined. He wonders about that too.

Runealy is....? Having some sort of attack? He isn't sure. He just kind of wordlessly scoops her up.

Then jumps in the opposite direction. He'll let Tuxedo Kamen handle the Puella Magi. He's confused. Runealy is now hurting for some reason...

And he possibly killed someone tonight.

This is going to be a long couple of days.
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 05:46:38 9596
Runealy's contribution to the conversation is the same set of hacking syllables and spasming coughs. It's getting worse, and purple energy can be seen flowing out of the side of her neck. This mist isn't the same color Homura's was, it's darker, more sinister with black lines tinted through much of it.

She can hear Homura talking, and forces her head up to face the Puella Magi. The princess is sobbing, trying to respond to that question: "I don'... I'm sor-- hhgk! Uhhh...!" She's quickly reduced to incoherence, mist continuing to float around her even as Hino picks her up.

She is in no condition to resist this, and simply tries to stare at Homura and Tuxedo Kamen in the meantime... though her gaze goes up to Hino as they become more distant in her vision, still thrashing and choking. 'What are you doing!? Why!?' has given way to wide-eyed fright, looking straight up at him.
Mamoru Chiba 2015-09-14 05:52:25 9597
"Hell if I know what's going on with those guys, they're at sixes and sevens," Mamoru mutters, sharp and staccato and angry, though his face is so relieved. So relieved. He hugs Homura to him, glancing up at the princess' wide eyes receding, then back down at the first real friend he made in this weird world of magic they live in.

"But we'll find out. And we'll stop them," he tells her, lifting her up again, getting to his feet. "I'm taking you home."

Then he jumps them up to a higher roof, and then up into the night sky and away, vanishing among the skyscrapers, shadows, and stars.
Homura Akemi 2015-09-14 05:55:25 9598
Homura hears the same kinds of hacking cough from Runealy as she hears coming out of her own mouth. Well, that puts an end to her questioning. That line of conversation isn't going to go anywhere, with two of its participants almost unable to even speak.

Kamen speaks, and Homura smiles up at him. "Y-ye-" whatever she's about to say is lost in a coughing fit, but it sounds like she was going to say some variant of 'yeah' or 'yes'.

Homura leans against Mamoru as he hugs her, and lets herself be carried away as Mamoru vanishes with her.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 06:01:39 9599
Guardian Hino doesn't say anything to Runealy yet. Not while he's taking her away. Not while something else could strike them. He really doesn't want to know what an angry Tuxedo Kamen is capable of because he belives it involves Rosemurder.

Stop upon a rooftop whose vents make a private little square of space. Enough to hide him and Runealy.

He places her down. He doesn't say anything for a good long moment as he sits down and closes his eyes that. Rising Crash is still on his belt, though his scabbard's empty at the moment.

He doesn't appear to be particularly worried about either.

He finally speaks.

"....I don't know." he says. There's a very stark truth to his voice. And he doesn't elaborate for a moment as he just holds his head between his knees.

"I saw that girl hopping rooftops. Went to say Hi........ and then it felt like I jolted awake when something hard and fast hit me."

He pauses. "Did he attack you? Are you okay? I don't... I don't know what happened back there. I... why did you convulse...!?"
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 06:06:11 9600
Runealy tries to take in these details Hino is offering, even as Tokyo is a blur, her tear-filled eyes unable to see much of note; all she can see is a haze of color matching him. She's still 'leaking' dark energy, still coughing...

But she does manage to force out one coherent reply. "No! Neither of them...! Hh...! D... did...! Ah... nnh! Anything!"
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 06:12:27 9601
Guardian Hino blinks... Runealy is.. leaking something? He doesn't really understand. It feels wrong. "Princess... Runealy.... relax. Take deep breaths. Why are you leaking... leaking whatever this is..." he says.

"Please stay awake..." he says as he places a hand against her forehead. He reaches behind himself to grab his cape off and place it over her, because he doesn't know much else he can do right now. He isn't a healer. He's just really good at burning things.

What happened. Why is this happening!?
Runealy Waldia 2015-09-14 06:15:30 9602
Oddly, Runealy's forehead feels very cold to the touch. Ice cold, which is not a natural state for that part of the human head to feel like. She clutches the cape and pulls it tight against herself, continuing to thrash and cough...

...And then in a flash of red light, her transformation disappears. The 'leaking' stops at the same time, but her eyes close. She does not stay awake, despite Hino's plea.

She does, however, continue to have a pulse. Rune is unconscious, not dead.
Hinote Kagari 2015-09-14 06:21:06 9603
Guardian Hino is very confused. Very lost. Very Sad all at once. He somehow manages to keep his own henshin despite all this despair. Though the only thing keeping it up right now is the great concern he has for Runealy right now.

He stands back up and scoops her up and takes off as fast as he can back to the store. He doesn't particularly trust a hospital at the moment with this.

How would they help anyways.

He gets Runealy into bed- and then he go and lay his head down on the counter as he has a seat.

He doesn't partiularly let himself sleep but he'll probably end up nodding off eventually. When he does, the henshin fades off.
