Rune has had a lot to think about since her encounter with Cecelia the other day. In many cases, her questions still have no good answer. However... she has enough information to go on that some people around the house deserve an update.

This brings the elder princess upstairs in the mid-evening hours, heading toward Fate's room. She stops by the door for a moment to listen for any obvious signs that Fate might be busy (such as unusually loud music), and unless she gets that signal...

...Rune reaches up and makes a few gentle knocks. She announces herself in a soft tone: "It's me, Fate. It is not urgent, but it is important; may I come in?"

Fate T. Waldia is sitting at her desk typing at a laptop on some bakery forum. Chatting online about trivial things like this is novel to her. She leans backwards a bit as she finishes a post about a new way to make pizza dough she found out about! The rest of the users seem to know it already but they have tips for her to make it better.

She's about to start a new post about 'What's your favorite cookie?' when Runealy knocks on her door and she closes the laptop and spins to the right of her chair. "Come in, Runealy!" she says.

"I was just chatting online! About Pizza dough!" she says. She'll wait for Runealy to enter. "Is um.. everything okay?" she asks with concern.

Rune steps in, though she makes no attempt to pry into what sort of things Fate is doing on the laptop; it's all entirely foreign to Rune and she has made no serious effort to learn about computers. Thus, Fate's announcement is met with a puzzled reply: "...You can... do that? I had no idea." A lack of comprehension isn't the same as a lack of approval, though; confusion fades for a quick smile, "I'm glad to hear it, in any event. If the computer is teaching you about food or cooking, that sounds wonderful!" That's not quite what Fate said, but it's what her tech-illiterate sister got out of it.

"Though... I admit, the main reason I came by was to warn you about someone. Someone who might attack you for your connections to me, though it's difficult for me to tell just how far she will go with it; she seems to have lines she hesitates to cross."
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 01:12:38 106648
Fate T. Waldia nods. "Like... how we text? On the phone but.. with lots of other people at the same time." she says. "People you don't know in person who could be on the other side of the planet! It's fun to chat with people like that." she says.

When Runealy talks about a threat she blinks a little. "Huh?" she asks. "Who?..." she asks. "And why?" she asks with confusion. "Did you... upset someone... accidently, Runealy?" she asks. She's not getting the full picture here, obviously, yet.
Runealy Waldia 2019-09-07 01:16:29 106649
"Like text messages... ...oh, I think I see. Is that why these are larger?" She indicates the laptop with a palm gesture, but doesn't touch it. "So there is room to talk to more people? I could see that being exciting! Though..."

She really does need to address the less happy of these topics, even if seeing Fate gush about texting a lot of people is fun and satisfying - another reminder that Fate is continuing to grow and express herself, a vast improvement over when they first met.

So after a moment's pause, Rune answers: "Either accidentally or unknowingly, yes. Her name is Cecelia Stovjord, and she wields significant ice magic that I can't account for. Which is strange, because she is clearly from home and has renounced Waldian citizenship. Several days ago, Mistral and I found her attacking people at an amusement park."
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 01:37:31 106650
Fate T. Waldia finds Runealy's understanding of that amusing, it illicits a small smile. But no laugh. "Kind of." she says. She leaves it at that. It's not her style to rag on Runealy for things like that. It's mean! For now...

She listens to Runbealy talk about Cecelia, and how she's from home and has magic that Runealy can't account for?

"Why was she... attacking people?" she asks with a hard blink, a furrowed brow as she stands up now as she crosses her arms a little in front of her.
Runealy Waldia 2019-09-07 01:44:16 106651
"I simply don't know," is Rune's immediate, soft-toned answer. "With most things I ask, she simply throws the question back at me and blames me for not understanding. What few answers I do get out of her are ones I've had to be extremely careful in how I ask her. However..."

Rune paces around a few steps, then her gaze returns to Fate. "The reason I bring this up is she has something against me, personally. What it is, I do not know. I do know she seems willing to kill me, and might attack you as well. On the other hand?"

Rune holds up a hand, stalling for a moment to gather her thoughts. "Cecelia also went to significant lengths to avoid killing park-goers. She would harm them, but not kill. I suspected it during our fight, was nearly certain of it when news heralds on television confirmed everyone had only modest injuries, and Cecelia confirmed it was intentional. She even asked how dangerous my staff is to anyone close to its explosions."
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 01:58:04 106652
Fate T. Waldia finds this a little odd. Blame Runealy? For not understanding? Why? Should Runealy know her? Or does this girl things she should? Fate closes her eyes a moment. Nanoha, Runealy.. lots of others are screaming questions at her as she battled for 'Jewel' seeds.

Fate goes to ask what she thinks she might have against her, personally when Runealy also raises that hand and Fate closes her mouth, pursing her lips when she takes in the rest of the information.

"So ... she has something against you? And attacks people... hurts them but seems careful to not... kill them?" she scratches the side of her head.

"That doesn't make sense, why hurt them to begin with at all!?" she asks with confusion.
Runealy Waldia 2019-09-07 02:02:52 106653
"Precisely. I don't know why she's doing any of that, but she is. I'm telling you all this," Rune takes a few steps to arrive at the other edge of Fate's desk, apparently having a bit of nervous energy to burn, "Because I don't know what she will try to do. She might decide you aren't part of her grievance with me, and ignore you. Or she might decide your relation to me is ample reason to attack you. I simply don't know, and you deserved to have some warning."
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 02:13:30 106654
Fate T. Waldia narrows her eyes. "Oh, I'm a part of her grievance. She's attacking you. She has... a problem with my sister w-well..." she closes her eyes and nods matter of factly. "She has a grievance with me too!" she says with a little mellodrama in her voice.

"But... I will... be on the lookout." she says. "We know her name...? Has.... father sent anything about this?" she asks. "Since she's from our world? Or does no one seem to know who she is? Do.."

"Do we know where she is here? On this side of the portal?" she asks curiously.

Rune blinks, coiling back a step in surprise at Fate's resolution. Not disapproval; Rune simply didn't expect it. "Thank you. I had hoped to spare you from that, but if you're joining in... I'll admit that does set my mind a little more at ease."

Then a slow headshake. "He is looking into the matter, but so far has little to share." What Rune doesn't realize is that this is a matter of him being unwilling to provide what he knows, not unable to; he is attempting to handle ongoing 'political ugliness' on their homeworld by himself rather than involving his daughters in it. A significant mistake, but well-meaning.

"And I do not know where she lives. She attends the same school I do, though... we've spoken, and agreed that the campus is not an acceptable battleground."
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 02:30:56 106656
Fate T. Waldia frowns. "I don't go to that school. I go to school at Seishou..." she says. Not for want of wanting to go where Rune goes, but... She likes being near Nanoha. She hasn't been able to convience Nanoha to switch schools. She tried. Nanoha likes how close it is to her home.

"But maybe I'll find an excuse to get the teacher to send me on an errand there one day..." she says quietly as she thinks up a scheme to meet this girl. They know her name. That should help her find her.

She frowns. "Well.. hopefully... he'll find something..." she says quietly as she crosses her arms a little.

She pauses a moment and offers Runealy a hug, opening her arms. "You're not in this alone though. If she has a problem with you, then she has a problem with me and I'm sure the others feel the same way to some degree. I couldn't fathom why they shouldn't..." she says.
Runealy Waldia 2019-09-07 02:34:06 106657
"An errand there? If you do, please do find me; I'd love to see you during that school day if I can!" With the worst of the topic covered, Rune is warming up... and meets the embrace Fate offers. "Thank you. I've only wanted to avoid dragging others into my troubles, but... I do appreciate this! Though, if I may change the subject,"

She nods down to the laptop, but makes little effort to see the screen itself; Rune is at least aware people have some expectation of 'tech privacy' and is glad to honor it for Fate. "You've been discussing food with others? I take it your interest in the culinary arts continues to grow, then?"
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 02:49:23 106658
Fate nods. "I'll try to let you know if I'm able!" she says with a smile. "I'll text on the way and hopefully you'd get a chance to check between classes!" she says. She then looks to the laptop. She closed the screen earlier, anyways. The laptop is folded down. She folds it up, to show the banner of some Forum about baking.

"Yeah!" she says. "I mean... Nanoha's family is REALLY good about teaching me and---- oh! Right! I have a job on Saturdays there now! I'm an apprentience!" she says.

"-- but-- back to the internet um. It's nice to see how other people do things, and learn from that!" she says.

She nods a little. "But yes I've been discussing a lotta food ideas. I'm just not... super great at it. Yet." she says.

"I mean things beyond baking. Cooking is... different." she says. "Like one is... math and the other is... science...."

Talk of meeting at school gets a quick nod, but Rune seems far more interested in Fate's progress in hobbies. "You're helping down at the Midori-ya? That's wonderful! Between the Takamachis and the world wide internet, I imagine you will be come quite skilled in due time! Though I'll admit I am curious,"

Rune raises an intrigued eyebrow, "What attracted you to these? There is obviously no need for you to pursue cooking or baking, you will always have funds for any food you desire. Obviously it is far more fulfilling than that, and I would love to know... what makes it so delightful, so engaging?" She's careful to keep her tone soft, trying to avoid any chance of seeming judging; this is inquiry, not veiled criticism. She's mindful that it could be taken more harshly due to what she understands of Fate's background, and trying to be gentle with the questions.
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 03:04:55 106660
Fate T. Waldia smiles and nods. "Saturdays. I'm being paid!" she says. She fidgets a bit. "What attracted me to baking?" she says as she bites her lip a bit. It's a personal question. "Well.. when I was... staying with the Takamachis...." she says silently. "...they asked if I could help out with the shop while I was there and-- I liked it." she says with a series of nods. "So it kinda stuck." she smiles.

"Like... I told you before, Runealy. There's... things I know about who 'Fate' is... and one of those is... 'She likes to bake'." she says with a wide smile.

Her computer starts bleeping at her suddenly though before it blue screens. She blinks. "W..wha happened!?" she says as she sits down and starts tapping away. She tries to reboot the computer. It doesn't reboot.

"....N-no! I think the computer died!" she says with wide eyes. "Um.. I should... call tech support..." she says turning the computer upside down to look for a phone number... and a serial number and things like that. Usually... that's how this works here. Right? Call Tech Support!

"That's lovely," Rune's tone is soft, but immediate and interested in Fate's reason. "If you're comfortable with it, I'd be delighted to continue hearing about your progress as their apprentice! And... hn?"

She stares down at the machine now that Fate is having problems with it. Problems Rune simply doesn't understand; she only grasps that it is 'blue on the screen' and has no idea what that signifies. "Is it that dire? If it's able to be repaired, so much the better... but if not, do not worry; I would be glad to replace it. I hope it doesn't come to that, though... I had thought Earth technology was more reliable. Regardless, we'll see this computer matter set right!"
Fate T. Waldia 2019-09-07 03:13:14 106662
Fate T. Waldia picks up the phone, calls the number, and is told there's a wait time of TWO HOURS and she hangs the phone up.

"You know what. I think I need a new one anyways." she says defeatedly. "Come on... let's go a electronic's shop!" she smiles.

An excuse to go shopping with your sister. Always a good idea.
