NOT THAT LONG AGO, Cure Gull managed to rope Riventon(-chan!?) into a date. Somewhere after asking she managed to feel like this was going to be a horrible idea and thought Riventon was just going to blow her off. But then--- THEN he actually replied to a text she sent like DAYS ago! She gets juuuust a little more hopeful when this happens.
Riventon is directed to the top of a burger stand near the beach where Cure Gull is seated on a table ON TOP!? of the stand. Corvus is not there. A promise was made and she's keeping it. Corvus is playing his MMORPG while he glances out the window from the Infinity dorm. He may be a LONG ways away but he can still sense Gull--he'll know if something begins to go pear shaped in a bad way. He's still worried and gave Gull a stern lecture about safety around strange boys after his last attempt to talk her out of foolishness failed---if he couldn't stop her, he'd at least make sure what to do!
There's a green candle on the table and Gull is sitting there staring at it as she blows her Cure bangs up out of her face. Riventon isn't late- but she is nervous and just trying not to hold onto the table and shake for dear life. She manages this well enough.
There seems to be no way UP onto the Burger Stand from the ground so this is a special setup.
Riventon is not, actually, late. He is perfectly on time. A few moments before the alotted time Gull can probably sense him getting closer, soaring through the sky. He stops in mid air upon seeing the table and it seems to take him some time to process it's existence.
But he takes it in stride once he does - because things are strange when you're a Dark Magical Boy agreeing to go on a date with a Rebellious Magical Girl in henshin. So he lands, nods at Gull, and pulls out his chair.
"Hello, Cure Gull." Because what else does he say. 'come here often'? It's her date! He's actually kind of at a loss for words. It's all so strange!
Haruna Kurosawa blinks and looks upwards. Smile~ Yay! "Hi Riventon-c----" she pauses. "Hi Riventon!" she says just straight, trying to be polite and less goofy right now. As much as Riventon-chan just /rolls off the tounge/. (It doesn't!). She sort of bites her lip. "Hey--uh...!" she calls out.
"I can hear you~ What is it you two want~" says the Burger Stand runner down below. Yeah that's a thing. "They do good burgers and fries here! But no milkshakes. They do smoothies instead with fruit and bannanas and stuff." she says.
"...he also knows I'm a Cure---I mean like a magical...defender. Thing. He was nice to lemme grab a table and chairs from down below and bring em up here so no one would see us!" she beams.
She sort of head tilts and bites her lip. "H--heh---I'm sorry for...presuming too much just..." um... "I kinda think...highly of all the people I interacted with when I was... the witch thing..." she mumbles. "Like H-" she catches herself. "I mean White-chan....!" she fixes. She didn't say the full name-- at least, and just the 'ha-' sound. "She's like one of my best friends." she mutters. Then she deflates a bit.
"So..burger? Double burger? Triple with everything?" she asks with a smile at least.
Riventon shrugs, thinks on it, and calls down. "Double with cheese, and the biggest order of fries you have." He likes french fries. Ayana also likes french fries. This means he does not get to eat many french fries.
Riventon leans back in the chair as Gull stammers her way through her explanation. "White-chan is a good friend of mine, and I don't have many people I trust. She's one of them." he says.
"But that doesn't explain why you think so highly of me. I mean, I just tried to figure out what was going on with you. And I didn't catch it in time. Maybe I would've if the other guys hadn't stolen you? But really I didn't get any results. So... I was really surprised, to say the least. But I hear you're working for Miss White now."
Haruna Kurosawa raises a finger and jumps down to the side. "Hold that thought." she says.
She comes back up with two plates! The plates are nearly identical, save for Riventon's which has so many fries some fall off the plate. Burger dude means bussiness. There's a third burger there, but it's wrapped! She smiles. "The wrapped one is for Corvus when I get back home. I won't hear the end of it if I don't bring him back at least one~" she teases.
She looks down at her food and pauses as she thinks on what he said earlier.
"White-chan is a good friend. She knows we're gonna butt heads a lot and that's okay... friend's don't always need to agree, right?" she says softly.
She bites her lip. "Well... um. If Corvus was here- he'd just embarass me by saying--- 'She thinks you're pretty handsome!', so I'll just say it for him!" she says as she crosses her arms and blushes fiercely at what she just said. There! Really. It was basic.
She blushes. "Yea. I am." she says gently. "Don't worry. I'm not in any position to learn anything I'm mostly there to help her punch stuff and make sure she gets outta places safe cuz sometimes she overdoes it, you know?" she says softly.
Riventon considers it. He'll have to ask burger-guy for something for Ayana when he gets ready to leave, too. He picks up a french fry and noms it. "These are really good!" he says.
When she talks about White-san, he nods along and takes a bite of the burger. Which he then has to swallow when she calls him handsome. He's a bit conflicted now. Does he compliment her back? Is that leading her on? He just smiles. "I don't hear that often, thank you." he says, a bit quietly.
"Yeah, Miss White and I both... we get in over our heads sometimes." he says. He feels like he could say more? Should say more? It's hard to know what to do. He's not sure what to say here.
He doesn't want to lie to her about things, but he also knows it must've taken a lot of bravery to ask him out, and he doesn't want to ruin it by talking about his civilian life. Plus, what if he somehow gives away who he is? That could ruin /everything/! This gives him a /very/ concerned look on his face.
Cure Gull doesn't seem too intrested in asking personal questions. She already knows what Riventon 'does for a living' so to speak. She was there. She knows he's some sort of 'ruthless researcher'. She figures Riventon will tell her who he really is whenever he feels ready- if he ever does. She takes a deep breath.
She does manage to blush at the thank you though. But no 'you're welcome'. She just eats her burger awkwardly in silence for a bit else it's just going to get cold and the cheese is still all melty and that's the BEST PART of a cheeseburger! Right?
"....I heard Desparia was realllllly upset." this is the most hilarous understatement Riventon heard. "After the whole mess I was in. I feel bad I'd never get to thank her. I won't ask you to pass that along I----I know what happens... just." she sighs and just sort of makes a squeezed fist.
"I made some friends there, and while some will talk to me and even if we have to stop each other we still are friends---but then there's others who just ignore me or outright threaten me... it's hard... you know?" she says softly.
"I don't want to be that way. I'd prefer to not hurt people. But---- sides don't exist when we're not fighting. That's how I see things. This doesn't make me stupid- I'm not gonna blurt out everything I know- but it doesn't mean that... we can't just sit here and eat burgers sometimes and talk, too, right!?" she says. She's said this sentiment before- but this one sounds different when Corvus isn't around.
Riventon nods. He kinda has an idea of what Pretty Cures do for a living, too! "Desparia doesn't take 'assets' vanishing very well." he says, using his fingers to make air quotes at 'assets'. There's a french fry still in his left hand, which he eats afterwords. "I dunno that you should thank her. Or me, really." he admits.
"I mean, we weren't out to help you. That was a sort of... side effect? We were trying to help ourselves first and foremost. That's what makes everything different. Hannah's the same way. She has a goal, and she'll work with people - but the point is her goal, not you or me." he says, bluntly. Maybe this is a little bit cruel, but it's also true.
"I'm only not threatening you because you're not trying to stop me - and because burgers." he admits. "I mean... it's great that you find my handsome, but you only know a little bit about me. That's why I was so hesitant. It's hard to date someone who will try to break all your hard work, and I think if you were in my lab, you'd start punching things. And me." he smiles, and eats a french fry.
"I mean, sure, we're not enemies now. But that's only a matter of time." This whole thing doesn't strike him as hypocritical /at all/ when it comes to Madoka.
Cure Gull shrugs. "But I'm not. And if it comes down to that, we-well...! It has to. That's when sides start existing again...." she softly looking down. "I know what White-chan's doing and why she is- and I trust that she told me the truth." she says. She looks down. "I know some of you guys just saw me as an 'asset' or an 'experiment', or a 'specimen'. I didn't like it either. But that doesn't mean you guys still went out of your way for me- you know...?" she asks.
"Well.. Corvus doesn't want me here but I came anyways!" she insists and shoves more of her burger into her mouth."
"And maybe after that it's only a matter of time until we can talk again and I can continue to feed burgers to you." she insists.
Riventon leans over. "Yeah, but I'm sure you could find a not-evil guy to date. Someone who's not going to give you that sort of trouble. You seemed to want more than just one friendly date." he says, remembering the previous conversation. He plucks one of her french fries (stolen food tastes better!) and eats it, despite there being a healthy number still on his own plate.
"Hey, maybe Corvus is right? I mean, now that he's not being a godzilla-sized crow monster. Or maybe he's right but in the wrong way, and you should just punch good guys for us instead."
"I generally won't turn down a burger... but I also don't want to give you the wrong idea - because that's not really fair to you."
Cure Gull doesn't seem to mind having a french fry being stolen. Friends share... right?
"Well...maybe..." she mumbles. "Look----I wasn't...expecting much from this. I'll say that. I guess you not blasting me in the face is as good as it's gonna get at the end of this, right?" she asks.
Also, she seems ready for that. She's silly, maybe a little too much heart. Nooooot completely stupid.
She kind of looks down. Her burgers done. So are most of her fries. "I just wanted you to know n' stuff I guess...." she mumbles. "And---we can still meet for burgers occasionally. You don't need to tell me anything. But if you ever need to get something vauge off your chest or something..." she looks down and sighhhhhhs a bit.
Riventon sighs a bit, too. "Look, Cure Gull - you're a really nice girl - a pretty girl - and you have a big heart. And I try not to blast anyone I don't actually have to. You're not in my way here - we're having a burger, so I'm not gonna blast you." He says, taking the last bite of his massive burger.
"But I also am not gonna tell you that would hold true if you were in my way." he adds. Not missing the mental understanding Madoka could get in the way and he... doesn't... think... he'd blast her? He's not sure. He's /really/ glad Madoka isn't a magical girl!
"And that's not a good foundation for romance! But... I think you have a point. It's an okay foundation for friendship and burgers. And you can talk to me too, if you like. I know you work for Miss White, and I have no desire to see her hurt by the loss of an employee." Sometime it just happens, like with Homura. "so... we can do burgers again, for sure."
Cure Gull huffs. "AND if you need to blast me! I'll still ask how you're doing and stuff after and feed you more burgers---oh right...." she humphs. "This guy here is really nice and he makes nice burgers and he treats my friends nice- so that means he'll treat you nice! So don't blast him, okay?" she asks politely. "He's just a normal guy. HE finds us strange but he likes the neat costumes and gives us discounts. He won't stop you or anything. I mean the most he can do is take your discount away." she says.
She stands up. "Well..um...." she bites her lip. "I really enjoyed this. Even if it was akward as heck." she admits. "-and...I know your're jerk. Maybe you won't be someday. But.. right now. I'm just glad we talked." she smiles. She grabs Corvus's burger.
"Oh- right. I paid! So. you can just leave. I told him I'd come back early and take care of the mess on his stand tommrow. So no worries, okay?"
Riventon smiles. "That's actually really cool of you, Gull-chan. A lot of people would hold that as a grudge." He can't help but wonder if she'll feel that way when it happens - when those feelings wash over her - but she was also hanging out as Scorn, so maybe!
"I promise I'll be cool with your burger-dude. I don't think it'd do any good to remove somebody like that. Only bad! And I liked that burger." he adds.
"It was a little awkward. Maybe next time it won't be so awkward, because it won't be new?" he says, eating the last french fry off his face. "Cause we know the score now. And it was nice to talk. And we can talk more next time."
"Okay, I'll let you take care of it. But next time I'm picking up the tab, okay Gull-chan?"
