The fact that Takashi didn't come in to school today worried Madoka. A little at first, but then more and more throughout the day as she thought about it. It wasn't just that it was unlike him not to make classes, but his considerable pride made her think he wouldn't want to show any kind of weakness or crack like that to his classmates. Another part of her mind said he might just show up tomorrow acting as if missing a day of class was of no issue to him because he was so far advanced, but she simply could not stop worrying.

It didn't take much checking around to figure out where he was; especially since Mitakihara General was one of the first places she checked. Knowing he has magic and also the rate at which certain other magical friends of hers end up there make it a pretty likely location for people with unexpected absences to end up.

Being a volunteer at the hospital has it's perks, though ones Madoka would prefer to not have to use. It takes only a quick word with the hospital's main receptionist to find out where his room is and get allowed a visit despite not being a relative.

She slips in quietly after gently knocking on the door to his room, and after taking care of a few simple things sets a chair next to his bed and sits down. It's weird for her, seeing him injured and in hospital clothes, in a hospital bed. She's seen friends like this before and while she doesn't like it she's gotten somewhat more used to it. This time it feels a little different, though.

It's not hard for her to guess why.

For a time she mostly just sits next to Takashi and watches him, not wanting to disturb his rest, knowing how important that is right now. But after a while she reaches over and, wondering if she's being a bit presumptuous, takes his right hand and lightly holds it between her own.

She continues to watch him rest with a worried expression on her face. Over on a stand by the window there's a vase full of flowers, freshly cut rather than store bought, and a small unassuming 'get well soon' card with Madoka's signature.

When Takashi finally comes to consciousness, his eyes open slowly. The first thing he recognizes is that his hand is really warm. Not hot, just warm. A nice kind of warm. But why only his right hand?

He looks over slowly to see Madoka there. "Madoka-chan?" he asks. His voice is vastly changed from it's confident (some might say overconfident) and firm tones. It sounds oddly tiny and small.

He's /really/ rather sure he didn't want Madoka to see him in this state. But he also knows that, deep down, he's very happy to see her here. "Are you..." he doesn't know how to properly process or ask all of the questions in his head, all of the feelings in his heart - which seem even stronger than usual! - so he cuts off his own question.

"It's good to see you." he says, finally.

As he starts waking up Madoka gives a squeeze to his hand. Despite the worry still showing on her features her lips turn up into a smile, and she nods lightly when he says her name. "It's me." The fact that he's not sounding resoundingly confident and powerful doesn't seem to bother her; unexpected, previously undiscovered frailty is part and parcel of being in the hospital. If she didn't already know it from observation she certainly found out when she was admitted herself not all that long ago.

She isn't sure what he's about to ask so takes a guess, "I'm not here for work; I came to visit once I found out. Indeed she's not in her volunteer scurbs, though she's not in her school uniform either. Instead she's wearing a black sweater with a colorful pattern a white skirt with a pair of warm black leggings underneath.

Her smile warms a little and shows more in her eyes, and she scoots closer to the edge of her seat while leaning closer, "It's good to see you too." She pauses for a moment and looks some mix between embarrassed and nervous "I... got worried when you didn't come to classes today. Isn't that silly?"

Takashi - with some difficulty - sits up. He uses his left hand for leverage, unwilling to part with Madoka's hand in his right. His chest is pretty heavily bandaged - if Madoka had read his chart she'd know he had some pretty nasty damage.

"This is the first time I've ever been in a hosptial from a fight." he admits. "It's... nice to have you here. Most people I know wouldn't come."

"I don't think it's silly. I'd be worried if you weren't around." he offers somewhat boldly. "Why do you think it's silly?" he inquires with a smile, his head inclining a bit closer.

Madoka is ready to lean forward and help him if he needs it as he sits up, but in the end he doesn't seem to. She gives a little shake of her head, "I came as soon I heard you were here." It's mostly true; technically she went to get the card and flowers first.

She makes a quiet laugh then and smiles again, "I'm glad you'd be worried for me." She's thoughtful for a short moment, "Because we're only just getting to know each other." Her tone suggests she doesn't think that's a very good reason. "And... you're not really supposed to mean enough to me that I worry about you from one little absence."

She holds his hand a little tighter for a moment, "You could have had something important to do. Something for school outside of classes, or for your work," yes, she does remember that internship offer, "or something with," how to put it, "the other you." She means Frost Knight by that, of course. "It could have been a lot of other things. That and... we're not even..." she looks mildly confused, "anything specific. That's what we said, right? So I shouldn't be worrying so much." But she does. Obviously.

Takashi smiles. "You're pretty great, Madoka-chan... rushing over to see me just because I got on the wrong end of a fight for once and needed a little rest." The bandages and wounds he has tells a different tale than 'needing a little rest' but he's not going to admit that.

"Well, I can tell you if you didn't show up one day I would be super-worried." he admits. Of course, he has the legitimate worry somebody had tried to kidnap her again... "And if I found out you were in a hospital? We'd be in the same place just reversed."

"So if it's silly for you, it's silly for me, and we're silly together, and that's fine with me." her says with a smile. "Besides - who gets to say how much we're supposed to mean to each other? Is there a rule, a guidebook? I don't think so. And as long as it feels right, as long as you make me this happy, just by being around? Well, if there is a rulebook, I'm declaring that it's wrong."

He pauses when he considers that they're not anything specific. "Well, whatever we are... I'm glad you worried enough about me to come see me, and I'm glad you're here, because it's making me feel better."

"I didn't think of it at first, because I was just so relieved you rescued me. But if you have that kind of power it means you're probably putting yourself in danger." Madoka doesn't actually say it, but from what she's seen fighting magical battles is going to get you at least moderately injured sooner or later.

She also doesn't say anything to him being worried if she was missing, instead just looking a little happy. At the mention of rushing to her side were she injured herself she smiles. "It's good to hear you care for me that much," a short pause, "Takashi-kun."

His next words have her looking slightly abashed, as if she's embarrassed to have been over thinking things so much. It's far from a sad look though as she seems pleased with what he's saying. "I don't think there's any books for situations like ours," she admits with a small laugh and a shake of her head.

She turns a bit more somber for a moment, squeezing his hand again between hers. "I'm glad I'm helping you feel better. I was worried when I saw how you'd been hurt," of course she looked at the chart, "but you look like you're recovering well." To her it does anyway; seeing him now, talking like he is, has him looking a whole lot better than when he was asleep.

She gets a tiny bit fidgety, "Also... it makes me happy just to be able to spend time with you, too. Even if it's in a place like this."

Madoka has to resist the urge to get up and hug him. Normally she would, but those chest wraps aren't just for show.

Takashi does something which Madoka might find out of character - not the least of all because Takashi does, too. "I care for you so much more than that, Madoka-chan." he says, honestly. "I don't think I'd even have that kind of power if it wasn't for you." This is, in a roundabout way, true. "I know a lot of words, but I don't have the right words for how you make me feel - anything I use doesn't seem good enough."

To Madoka's view of his injuries. "Yeah, that Kyouko girl got me pretty good." he says, giving her no honorifics. "I underestimated her." he admits. "I think I'll be okay after some rest... I usually am."

"Madoka-chan, I'm happy to spend time with you anywhere, too. Though, I'll admit, ideally I don't have to get cracked bones to do it." he adds with a bit of an impish grin. "Still, that may have been almost worth it." he adds, jokingly.

A potentially familiar flush shows on Madoka's cheeks at his words. Compliments given like that, with the honesty behind them showing in his face and eyes, they mean a lot to her. It also doesn't hurt that 'I feel this way about you, but can't explain it or put it into words' is something she's heard from others too.

Yeah, that's right. He totally owes Homura one for that.

"That's okay, if you don't know the right ones. I can't explain the way you make me feel very well either. Happy, excited, nervous... they all fit, but they're not quite right." She is quiet for another moment before adding, "I get self conscious when I think about how giddy I feel sometimes when I'm around you, but a piece of me likes that part too."

So it was Kyouko he fought? "That girl... she's frightening. But... my best friend also cares for her a lot. I'm sorry you had to fight her; she... hasn't been herself lately." Madoka isn't sure what to say about that matter, she only knows bits and pieces herself. For a moment her attention is somewhere other than fully devoted to Takashi, and she sighs, "Poor Sayaka-chan. Her relationship with Kyouko-san is very confusing, even more than ours." After all, there's no 'other boy' that Madoka is not-so-secretly crushing on.

She perks up fairly quickly, "Really? Then maybe once you're better we can do something together!" She smiles happily as he grins, shaking her head a little, "You don't have to get hurt for me to visit you, Takashi-kun. All you have to do for that is to ask."

Takashi smiles. "I'm not surprised you know her. She was very adamant I not get anywhere near Miki-san." he says, shrugging a bit - and wincing from the shrug. "So I told her that I was friends with one of Sayaka's friends, and that I didn't take orders, and..." He stops the story there, the rest is probably somewhat obvious. "I could tell she wasn't herself. Bad energy just flowing off of her. It's where she got the strength."

"Maybe I should talk to Akemi-san before she catches me an alleyway and tries to beat me up, too." he adds, half-serious, half-joking.

"Well, you don't have to be self-conscious around me. I'm not going to judge you for that. It's nice to know I make you happy, though... because it means that's not just one way - you make me all of those things too. Except maybe nervous? I actually feel calmer around you. Like everything is okay."

"Well, what would you like to do once I'm not trapped in this bed? What's a good thing to look forward to?" he asks, bruishing some of the falling silver hair out of his eyes as he leans a bit further over.
