Seijuro Ginga, the transfer student who transferred out last year, has returned! And then promptly tried to find some way to avoid the gaggle of girls chasing him. Not that he minds, just that there's so many of them and it makes it hard to choose. Or think. Or plot.
Being able to leap schools in a single bound is really good for that, though, and now he's let himself down on the other end of the school, under a tree. He leans against the tree, pulling a strange flute from his vest and putting it to his lips, playing a soft tune. The notes carry across the shady little enclave, but not a whole lot further.
Naru Osaka is often with a gaggle of girls, but today?
Today, there is a quiet spot at the far end of the school, and a quiet Naru that had found a comfy spot with a bit of a breeze to sit with her sketchbook propped up on her knees. She tracked the fall of the boy from the blue sky above, to watch him land safely. She turns a page, to settle pencil to paper again, smiling at the music. She's not hidden, per se, nor is she trying to be quiet.
Seijuro picks up on the girl's presence just a little bit too late, and quickly goes into a sort of damage control mode, other hand behind his head. "Oh! Sorry! Didn't... realize anyone was there or I'd have stayed in the tree." Yes. The tree. Not the roof. Normal people don't casually leap off rooftops and land.
Okay. It's one girl. Not twenty. One he can work with. "I'm sorry, I hope I'm not intruding." he says quickly, with a tilt of his head and a casual half-smile.
The tree comment is met with a skeptical look and Naru glances past him up to the rooftop pointedly and then back to Seijuro with a quirk of her brow. "It's alright." She shakes her head a touch. "There's room enough for two to hide here if you like." She grins at him and then leaves off sketching to gesture. "I don't think I knew you played the flute. It's good. You're good, I suppose is better."
Seijuro looks at Naru and looks back at the tree equally pointedly. But he doesn't say anything more about it. "I appreciate the offer, though." he says, though he stows his flute back in his pocket. "I spend a lot of time playing it. It's soothing. An...d my sister appreciates it, too." he adds, hitching a little bit as he remembers names.
"Are you drawing? It's nice to meet another artist, of a sorts. Music and painting are a lot alike, after all." he says, moving somewhat closer to her now. Getting his wits about him again.
"Were you part of the school orchestra at your last school?" Naru asks curiously, also leaving off the minor detail about trees vs rooftops. "You did just transfer, not all that long ago, right?" She asks as she resettles on the ground, to something a little less curled up and a little more sitting in something conversational.
"Yes. I draw." Naru nods, glancing down at her sketch and then back up to Seijuro and then she giggles softly "Paints are a mess in my school bag. Pencils are much easier."
Seijuro shakes his head. "No, I've never been a part of any orchestra. It's something I picked up travelling. My sister has spent a lot of time sick, and it seems to help her rest, so I've gotten a lot of practice." he says. "Yeah, I transferred last year, but then I had to leave for a little bit. This year I think I'll be staying though. I kinda hope I can stop moving, it's really stressful. I like to think that we've finally found a place we can call home."
And suddenly Seijuro plops down well within Naru's personal space and looks over at her sketch. "I've always found a special affection for artists. You can see someone's true beauty when they lay it out, wether it's on canvas, paper, or music." he says, turning to look very closely at her.
"I've never lived anywhere but Tokyo." Naru shakes her head a little in awe. "I can't imagine moving so much. It must be so hard, and have to meet new friends all the time. I hope your sister is feeling better."
Naru glances at him as he sits up close and personal with her, the sketch on her notebook plain at that distance. Nothing too exciting yet, the outline of the tree that he ostensibly came out of, just starting to get its texture and shading across the bark. "I.. well. I think most artists leave something of themselves in their work, their /real/ work, rather than just little doodles or noodling around. Don't you, in your music?" She asks, looking at him as directly as he's looking at her.
Seijuro nods a bit. "It's a very beautiful place here. So vibrant, so full of energy." he says, wistfully. "I think we can settle here, for sure. if we can deal with a few little difficulties."
"Of course. You put your heart and soul into your work - anything that matters to you, not just a little tune - and I think if people know where to look, it's evident. And it shows off a special sort of inner beauty - not that you don't have a fabulous amount of outer beauty to match!"
"What sort of difficulties?" Naru asks gently, watching him as he answers. "I love Tokyo, it has so much life to it. I like visiting the countryside, but I am glad to come home again." She ums softly. "Is it just you and your sister here in Tokyo?"
Naru smiles and ducks her head a little, colour coming up on her cheeks. "Now you're just flattering me." She shakes her head a little. "I'm hardly one of the pretty girls, but that's alright. I don't mind. I .. well.. that's what makes going to galleries interesting. To look at the art, and see what the artist was feeling, and telling you, and how they used paint and canvas to bring about emotion. It's amazing."
His eyes grow a little bit more stern. "Just... some people here don't like foreigners. And I'm not native to the area." he says with a bit more strength than is strictly neccessary. "But I won't let them chase me off. And yeah, it's just me and my sister. We're the last of our... family. I don't like talking about what happened though..."
"I'm not flattering you. There's more to beauty than just what people see on their first look. I think you're very pretty." he says, gesturing with his hand. "Pretty enough to be the subject of one of those paintings." he adds. "But yes... the nice thing about art is that you can use it to put yourself in the situation the artist wanted to convey. If I play a happy song it can lift spirits. If I play a sad song it can take people back to a sad point. And by weaving them together I can tell a little story... about love, loss, and survival." he says with a smile.
"Tokyo can be kinda xenophobic." Naru agrees ruefully. "I'm sorry that you're running into that. I hope it settles down soon, and you can just y'know.. focus on school and settling in and stuff." She smiles, her expression hopeful.
Naru wrinkles her nose and shakes her head quickly. "I'd far rather be behind the canvas than on it. Usagi can be the model, she's happy doing it, and delighted to be the centre of attention." Her tone as she mentions the blonde dynamo is utterly fond and there's a little smile. "Music is so much more effective for storytelling than painting. You get to explore those transitions, take your audience where you wish to and bring them back again. I get one moment in time. One frozen piece to share a story with, rather than something ongoing. It's hard, sometimes, to get it just so.. and you never know if you have until you show it to others. You always know what you meant."
Seijuro nods. "I'd really like to be able to make a good life for myself and my sister." he says, quietly. "And I'm going to do that, whatever it takes." he says with a bit more force. "I'm not going to let anyone take her away from me, or let anyone tell me we don't deserve to be here." But he calms quickly and returns his attention to Naru, wether she wants to be the center of it or not.
"You get one moment frozen in time, sure, but you get to paint that moment exactly as you see it. It's hard to paint moments with music. The emotions come and they go, the notes hit the ear and then they're gone. They're just good at different things - each medium has its own value. Now, if you can paint a picture and share music at the same time - if you can have two people helping everyone share in the moment and the emotion - now then you have something special." he says with a wink. "Sometime maybe we should work together on a project. I'm Seijruo Ginga - and you?"
"It's sweet how close you and your sister are. Are you close in age? Does she go to this school too?" Naru asks, all curious with a bit of a smile. Her eyes widen a little at the notion of working together. "That would be so cool! How to integrate the pictures into the music.. although I guess that's kinda like a music video. Except with art, rather than a mini-movie" She hunhs softly, looking up into the tree as she thinks on this a bit more. "A multimedia piece, with music all round, or in headphones, and lights coming on to highlight different pieces at the appropriate time." She mmmms and then ohs! A blush, all over again. "Er. I'm Naru Osaka. Nice to meet you."
