Haruna Kurosawa has spent the better part of this morning throwing balls of paper at Hannah Sharpe, who is one bed over and eventually the nurses finally asked her to stop and she hrmphs! All the papers had hearts drawn on them.
Despite her best efforts, Hannah is still there snoring her currently one armed self off.
Corvus isn't here with her. Her left leg is in some sort of weird splint/cast affair and doesn't look particularly comfortable. She has IVs in her arm.
She's now watching TV boredly and otherwise keeping to herself and looking a little moreose, sometimes searching her thoughts, looking sad, but then perking back up a bit.
She looks around and darn! They took her notebook away!
"Nrg. Hungry. When's dinner." she whines a little to herself as she looks at the clock.
It turns out when you're a fourteen years old volunteer the Hospital would rather wait until your home situation is confirmed stabilized before asking you to come in to work. Or even letting you, as Madoka Kaname found out when she called Monday to see if she could come in. Now it's Tuesday though and her family's home has been inspected, deemed safe and the broken windows replaced. There's still rubble in the yard but that won't be a problem for too long.
The important part is that her family has moved back into their house and thus she's been allowed to come in and volunteer for the first time since Walpurgisnacht attacked Tokyo. Things are, mostly, not as bad as she might have expected from the level of destruction. The prompt evacuation must have saved countless lives, and the Witch itself, despite the difficulty of even harming it, was destroyed before it could reach any of the shelters.
So up until now it's been a surprisingly normal afternoon and evening of volunteer work for Madoka, who is currently dressed in her pastel pink volunteer scrubs. She's mostly finished with her rounds for the night, many patients having drifted off to sleep, when she sees a man from the kitchen carrying a dinner tray. It's not really her job to help with those but the sooner he finishes up the sooner the next person will get their dinner, so she eagerly asks to finish the delivery herself, taking the tray carefully with one arm and making note of the room it's intended for.
There's a little knock and her familiar friendly voice can be heard calling, "Dinner service! Am I interrupting?" If no 'yes stay out's are forthcoming she opens the door to the hospital room carefully and walking in. The first thing she registers is who the occupants are, and the second thing she registers is that one of them is asleep. "Haruna-chan," she offers in a much quieter tone. "...it's good to see you!" If not under these circumstances, her tone implies. "Was this for you?" she asks, nodding down to the tray of food.
Haruna Kurosawa looks to the door. "Come on in~" she sings out, a visitor! Is it Yuko-chan again? She was worried about the girl. She seemed so guilt ridden about not helping up. She waits and her eyes light up. "Oh...! Madoka-chan!" she beams. "H-hey! How are you!? I'm well! Yes, that should be mine! What is it?" she asks peeking. Probably not a burger she wants right now. She really wants one. Ugh.
She motions. "Hannah-chan is knonked out. Usually, her snoring isn't so bad though-- I can usually sleep through it!- I dunno if I could sleep through th----" then she blushes because she realizes what she's talking about! Change of subject!---
"Are you safe Madoka-chan? Is your family okay? Aki and Corvus are okay. Corvus crawled up a wall all yesterday being worried sick about it. It was kind of endearing and he cried and called me 'Haruna-chan' and everything!" she grins.
She sort of swings her tray table into postion as she waits politely for the food to be placed onto it.
"So did your boyfriend make it okay? You sound a little down about something..." she says softly. "Is it me? Don't be worried about me!" she smiles.
Madoka smiles when she sees Haruna's expression at her arrival, "I'm doing well, thank you! My house, the hospital, and school are all fine so most of my biggest worries made it through." Most of, anyway. She sets the food tray down on Haruna's table and tilts her head, "It looks like a tuna steak and all kinds of vegetables- they must have cleared the harbor as safe if the fish markets are open again!" Sadly not a burger, but not low quality icky 'hospital food' either.
She looks over to Hannah and- pales several shades. Her gut clenches inside of her a level and she almost reaches over to put a hand down to keep herself steady. But... she's acting as a volunteer hospital worker right now and acting like that is not acceptable. "Hannah-chan! I didn't realize she was so badly injured. I'm sorry I didn't come by sooner, I would have visited if I'd known." She does her best to keep her voice even and mostly succeeds, but she's still not hard to tell she's worried and upset by seeing her injuries.
Madoka appears to miss the fact that Haruna knows that Hannah snores and sleeps in a position to hear it but actually she does and just doesn't consider it a big deal. It'd be telling in itself, if she wasn't busy worrying over Hannah.
The conversation gets turned to her and she nods, "Yes, my family is safe. They stayed in the shelter and made it through okay. I think they're upset I went out into the storm, but I needed to see it for myself." And her medical supplies came in very handy- but she can't exactly say that out loud when she technically stole them from this very hospital. "I'm glad Aki-chan and Corvus are okay. He cried over you? That's... really sweet." Though the pink haired girl can't help feeling a little bad for the poor bird.
Then her boyfriend is brought up and Madoka looks briefly confused, "Oh! Takashi-kun, um, I... don't know. He hasn't been coming to school- maybe he decided to avoid Walpurgis altogether, knowing Homura-chan and Endymion would be there. I wouldn't blame him if he did." There's a small pause and Madoka notes with growing embarrassment, "Actually though, we kind of broke up a few weeks ago..."
Funny, she doesn't look very upset over recently breaking up with her first boyfriend.
Haruna Kurosawa awwwws. "I'm sorry to hear that, Madoka-chan! I'm sure that- you'll meet someone else cool though!" she says. "...did you keep the big piece of jewerly?" she asks coyly. Then she looks over and Hannah and looks down...
"s'my fault." she says. "Hannah-chan said it isn't." she says. "But... She saved me because I was doing something silly to protect Hannah and her friends and I could had died but I knew it. So she stopped me from doing that and now she's like that." she says softly. "She's not upset. She's... actually pretty upbeat considering. She's more bored than anything. I think she has a plan."
She nods. "He was worried for me. I'm just glad he's okay. He was with Aki. I'm glad he's okay too- but I know Corvus-chan is tough!" she nods matter of factly.
She looks at her food and then ehs? "Oh, Why would he be worried about---"
she shakes her head. "None of my bussiness." she smiles. "So. I bet it's been super busy here. I'll be out soon, I think." she nods matter of factly. "Just my leg is all messed up and I have some weird imbalances and stuff." she motions to the IV.
Madoka smiles softly, "It's okay, Haruna-chan. It hurt a lot at first, but he wasn't mean about it at all. He just realized it wasn't going to work out, I think, and didn't want to lead me on." 'Waste your time' was the way he put it to her. The necklace is mention and she blushes, "The- Oh! I... guess I did. He didn't ask for it back. If he does I'll give it to him but it almost would seem rude to offer first." Not that she's likely to ever really wear it again. Keeping it means accepting the feelings he did have for her at one time; or at least that's how she sees it. She kinda wishes it was less ridiculous now that Haruna has reminded her of it, though.
She blinks a little when Haruna starts blaming herself, "Haruna-chan..." She steps a little closer, reaching over to put a hand on her friends shoulder, squeezing gently. "You shouldn't do that to yourself. If Hannah-chan was protecting you it means she made the choice to do that herself. And if I know her the fact that you're still alive will mean more to her than anything that happened to her."
She lets out a small embarrassed laugh when she hears that Hannah is more bored with her hosptial stay than worried about her awful injuries, "Eheheh... yeah, that does sound like her. Um, do you think it would help if I got you a bunch of Mad Libs from the gift shop or something? It's not much, but it's something fun the two of you could do together to pass the time." Madoka says nothing about the plan because she doesn't want to encourage or condone something that might involve aggravating injuries!
She tilts her head a little at the mention of imbalances, going over to look at the IV bag when it's motioned too. "Half-full still," she murmurs to herself- not time to call a Nurse in to change it. "I hope you recover quickly, Haruna-chan! But actually it isn't as busy as you'd think; a lot of patients were transferred to other hospitals when the storm was coming. Most of them, actually, and not all of them decided to come back. One move can be hard enough as it is."
Haruna Kurosawa listens and grins. "Well keep it. If he asks for it back, give it back, but until then- someone bought you a nice piece of jewerly. I'm sure you can wear it to a fancy affair." she says softly. She looks at Madoka and begins to eat. Nomf. It appears to be some sort of meat bun perhaps.
She nods.. "I know." she says. "It doesn't mean I still feel a little bad..." she motions Madoka over and gently pulls up the soft silver locket around her neck. "Corvus told Hannah-chan I wanted jewelry... but Hannah-chan also wanted to give me something nice and living..." she says softly. The locket, indeed, is very pretty and has a small gem stud. Nothing ostentaious. She opens it. Inside!-- is a picture of Hannah's family! with an older woman in the back, she smiles. "She said that I'm a part of her family now- so she wanted to give me this." she says softly. She closes the locket up nice and gingerly places it back down.
"I think it's nice. I got... um. Hannah-chan a copy of a book that was very important to me, in braille." she says softly.
"Oh-- um." she thinks, taking another bite, chewing, swallowing.
"So you were out there that night...!?" she suddenly asks, she smiles. "You're very brave and kind Madoka.
Madoka nods her head, "That's what I'll do. I'll give it to him if he asks for it. I feel bad since it was so expensive, but I also know that he wanted me to have it." As much as people might complain about his attitude Takashi never seemed like the kind of person who would give a gift and then ask for it back.
Theres a small nod and Madoka gives her a sympathetic look when she mentions still feeling bad about what happened to Hannah. "It's very hard isn't it? When people you care about get hurt protecting you. I used to worry about that myself but I think I've decided it's the decision of the person who wants to do protect." After a moment she adds, "Not that I don't worry about it when they do or don't feel bad if they get hurt."
She looks at the locket as it's shown to her and smiles, "It's very pretty, Haruna-chan." When she opens it and sees the picture of Hannah's family, "Aww, that's so sweet! She really said that to you? I'm really happy for you, Haruna-chan." The book is mentioned and Madoka smiles again, lifting onto her toes and dropping back to her heels, holding her arms behind herself, "Maybe you could ask her to read it out loud do you?" That would be just too sweet and adorable.
Madoka gives another embarrassed look and nods, "Y-yeah, I was. I made it to the top of that really tall tree. By the time I made it it was almost over, but it looked terrifying. You all who fought it are the brave ones, not me."
Haruna Kurosawa nods. "It was scary- but it was defeated! It cackled like made. Very loud. Lots of weird familars. But that's in the past now!" she smiles. She crosses her arms. "Ugh, we're equally brave!" she insists to Madoka's insistence that they were the brave ones. "You may not be a magical girl Madoka but you have the heart for /five/ of them!" she says with a wide smile.
She nods. "Yeah.. Hannah said that- any girlfriend of hers is a part of her family. She told me-- that's her grandma-- she never knew her grandma well before she passed away but she was the world's first female kickboxer! N' she follow her footsteps." she says. She looks down...
"Heh. I'd like that. Actually." she grins.
She ponders. "Madoka-chan...?" she asks. "How do you know so many... magical girls anyway? I mean. I know how we met because Corvus has a big beak~" she teases. "But you know a looot more! Do they have masocts with loud mouths too?" she winks.
Madoka manages to giggle a little when Haruna insists their bravery is equal, "That sounds good to me." She's had some 'more X than you' back and forths over the last few days and the Precure just put a stop to any such silliness before it could get out of hand. Then she's complimented in the nicest way and she blushes brightly, shifting on her feet a little, "Th-thank you, Haruna-chan. It means a lot to me to hear you say something like that."
"Hannah-chan's grandmother was the very first?" she asks with a wide eyed expression, "No wonder it means so much to her." She's quiet for a few moments, daring to peek her eyes over in that direction again. Injured like that... no, she won't think about it just now, it'd just be sad. Instead she focuses on a different point. "I've always looked up to my Mother because she's such a strong, cool person, but to have a Grandmother like that... it must have really been something."
When asked how she knows so many magical girls she looks thoughtful. There's a lot of ways to answer that question. "Part of it is because I have the potential to become a Puella Magi. That means I can see magic and other things that other people without magic can't. I also seem to get into a lot of trouble and danger, maybe because of that, so Magical Girls keep having to protect me." She looks pretty embarrassed about that part.
She decides to be fully honest with Haruna, "You were at the meeting, so you know that Homura-chan is a time traveler. What she didn't say was that the reason she was going back in time over and over was because she was trying to protect me. She tried so many times, but Walpurgisnacht was too powerful," among other things. "I think Homura-chan has told a lot of people about me, in order to try and help protect me. Hannah-chan is probably one of them; I know that Homura-chan works for her and they're friends, and Hannah-chan was very protective of me when there was danger."
