"What do you think of him?"

"Which him?"

"Osaka-san's partner. The tall one, with the, you know, the hair?"

"The awful hair!  Oh, I feel so sorry for her, having to put up with that.  But at least she has a partner she knows."

"-- well, maybe."

"Doesn't she know him? They come in together, they leave together..."

"She's so ''quiet'' when she's dancing with him, though. Didn't you notice? Every time she's partnered with someone else, she seems so much happier. Laughing and smiling."

"Well, she wouldn't be here with him if she didn't want to, would she?"

"Maybe."

"Maybe?"

"Maybe it's a family thing.  Maybe her family and his family are -- you know.  And that's why she's here with somebody so much older than her, who she doesn't even like much."

"Oh.  ''Oh.''  The poor thing!  At least if it's ... you know, arranged ... maybe he'll have money, later.  Or inherit a business.  It can't be all bad."

"Maybe we should just ... keep an eye on her, though.  I mean, he's --"

"He's what?"

"He's ''creepy.''  ''I'' wouldn't marry him, even if my family tried to make me, and I don't think ''she'' should have to, either.  Especially if she doesn't like him!"
