Synopsis: | Mamoru meets Rei and Minako after school to go to Crown, bringing his new friend Saburo (JADEITE), and they are joined by Mio (MIO), and things get awkward and weird. |
Cast of Characters: | Mamoru Chiba, Minako Aino, Rei Hino, Queen Beryl, Jadeite |
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
After school, after the day's clubs, and the sun's shadows are long on the pavement. Mamoru Chiba's on the path out to the gates with his new partner in crime, Saburo Yukimura! He's just as godawfully pretty as Mamoru, but blond.
"Lunch was great," he's laughing, hiking his school bag a little higher on his shoulder. "But now you've gotta see the arcade. It's basically *the* hangout spot after school, and I can introduce you to some friends of mine-- I was planning on meeting up with a few of them on the way today, they probably already got here--"
And indeed, they're coming into view of Rei and Minako, and undoubtedly also in view of Mio, who's likely also leaving school just now...
- Jadeite has posed:
Saburo's eyes are bright, laughing-light as he follows half-a-step behind Mamoru to wherever Mamoru chooses to lead. He seems in good humor, his own school bag slung casually across his body, although a faint wash of skepticism passes over his face at the words. "Are you sure? I don't want to *intrude*, if you already had plans." It's mostly lipservice, the offer to be polite for the sake of having done it rather than any real desire to leave. After all, an arcade sounds fun. It sounds *good*. Friends sounds even *better*.
- Rei Hino has posed:
The last time Rei saw Mamoru things didn't go so well. There's more than a little bit of guilt about that.
Oh well. Maybe this time things will be going better. Maybe Rei can just avoid that topic.
Rei sees Mamoru walking up to the arcade with... a friend? A pretty friend, Mars has to admit, but also a friend she isn't sure she's seen before. Or maybe she has? ... naaaah, she'd remember if she saw a guy like that.
Rei holds her hand in the air and waves at Mamoru, trying to get noticed in the crowd.
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino discreetly stands there behind Rei, acting as if she doesn't notice anything at all. Just sort of stares off in the direction of arcade noise or snacks, eyes dull and body nearly motionless.
Slowly, as Rei's arm goes into the air, a single wiggly finger reaches out to sneakily tickle at her armpit, being careful not to even turn her head or shift her body or make any tell-tale motion that she's responsible for anything that might occur.
- Queen Beryl has posed:
Mio is walking home from her classes, as well - she's got a book under her arm, and her bright eyes are scanning the horizon as she does so. She's not entirely sure herself what exactly she's looking for - and then she sees the boy she's come to understand is named Mamoru Chiba. And another boy with him. She recognizes him - sort of. In the strange way she feels like she recognizes Mamoru's other friends - and she's not really entirely sure how she should feel. Or act. It's why everyone considers her so wierd.
In the absence of a knowledge or emotional empathy about how she should /act/, Mio just /does/ - she walks brazenly right alongside Mamoru and his new friend, smiling softly, and acting for all the world like she belonged there - like she'd been with them the entire time, and her presence isn't strange at all.
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"Nah! You're new, you should meet new people anyway, right?" the black haired boy with the glasses says cheerfully to Saburo. And then he catches sight of Rei waving, and Minako beside her and hidden a little except who could miss that blonde head and big red bow? And he waves back! "There they are--!"
Aaaand that's when Mio falls into step to his side, and he feels a disturbance in the force a hair's breadth before he catches that bright red hair in his peripheral vision, and he takes a deep, steadying breath, and forces a smile. "And Yukimura-kun, this is Mio Kuroki. And that's Rei Hino, and Minako Aino--"
This as they're approaching. "Hino-san, Minako-chan, this is Mio Kuroki and Saburo Yukimura."
His eyes are saying to Rei in a manner that completely disregards their prior spat 'omg help'.
- Jadeite has posed:
And just like that, Saburo's entire head feels like it's buzzing. It seems like everywhere he looks, there's some nagging familiarity tugging at his hindbrain, digging its fingers into his skull. None of it is nearly as strong as it seems to be around Mamoru, but there's enough of it in a small area that the tall blond actually seems to suffer a brief chill. Hooooo, deja vu, or something close but not quite there. He manages to turn the involuntary gesture more into a bow, just deep enough to be polite. "It's my pleasure to meet you all." He says, and as it turns out, the guy's got a voice like *velvet*, if velvet were made out of liquid music. It's the kind of voice that invites listening, over and over.
Which makes it more the pity that he doesn't *keep talking* immediately. Instead, he straightens, and immediately flicks a glance to Mamoru's face like he's trying to gauge something he sees on it. His eyes follow that thread of whatever straight to Mio's face, and Saburo goes straight to looking pensive.
- Rei Hino has posed:
Rei, who usually has pretty good instincts, doesn't seem to be so sharp when it comes to sensing mischief. So when the finger brushes against her armpit she's caught completely unaware. "Ah!"
She brings her arm down to her side, closing off her armpit from further attacks (and possibly getting Minako's hand caught under her arm). She turns around to look accusingly at the all-too-innocent Minako, blushing slightly. "Wha--"
She stares at Minako, dumbfounded for a moment, before Mamoru's voice pulls her away from it. She notices Mio, hears the name that Mamoru introduces her by.
.oO(Oh. So this is her.)
Something about her gives her a very strange vibe. She isn't sure what to think. Mamoru seems more than a little creeped out, too.
Rei decides to wear a polite smile and greet the two people she hasn't met yet. "Yukimara-san, Kuroki-san. It's good to meet you."
She could swear she's heard that voice somewhere. "Yukimara-san, you wouldn't happen to go to Verone, would you?"
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino introduces herself too, her stupid grin growing into huge, face-breaking proportions after seeing Rei's reactions.
"Hi you allll. Chibs-chan. Nice to meet you! You can call me Minako-sama, if you wanna!" she sings, looking over Rei with faux concern exaggerated to unreasonable proportions.
"You're turning red. I'm worried about you, are you having a fever? Your cheeks are turning tomota-colored."
- Queen Beryl has posed:
Mio smiles. "I think we've met before." she says to Minako. Then, she looks at Rei. "Hello... hino san?" she asks. Then, she stops talking - and she just sort of stares at Rei for a while. And then she pivots to look at 'Saburo' for the first time - to really look at him - and she turns. "You have very interesting friends, Mamoru Chiba." she adds. "It is very interesting. They are not like other people." she adds, bluntly. "Not in a bad way. Just a ...different way. They feel different."
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Rei might find it especially odd that Mamoru, apparently out of nowhere, clasps a hand on Saburo's shoulder-- a reassuring gesture after his bow of introduction. When Saburo looks at Mamoru's face, what he sees on it is a pleasant mask despite the initial forced smile regarding Mio's appearance at their side-- but he also sees a warm and honest concern behind those maddeningly familiar blue eyes.
They're eyes that keep secrets, though, so the clasp doesn't last long and Mamoru's abruptly looking at Rei and Minako again, half-grinning. "Nah, Yukimura here is a transfer here from Okinawa. I figured I'd drag him along to the arcade before pushing him to the library."
And then he sticks his tongue out at Minako. "Tomato. And I am /not/ Chibs-chan..."
...and then Mio speaks up, and his stiff and awkward smile is back, and he meanders QUITE NATURALLY over so he's kind of in between Saburo and Rei. "That's kind of a funny thing to say, Kuroki-san."
- Jadeite has posed:
Something passes over Saburo's face when Mamoru clasps one hand down his shoulder. It's so fast it's hard to read, but it knocks him off of his kilter for just long enough that the conversation picks up around him and drags him along with its flow, not quite on top of it. He opens his mouth to explain that he's just transferred from Okinawa and finds himself beat to the punch, eyes blinking slowly. Without seeming to particularly think about it, he moves as Mamoru does, apparently accidentally inserting himself in the space between Mamoru and Mio even as the darker-haired boy retreats to Saburo's opposite side.
- Rei Hino has posed:
"That's tomato!" says Rei back to Minako, almost immediately.
Then a half beat later: "And I'm not turning red! Geeze!"
She's totally red. If she were any redder she'd match her henshin. Mio's staring and commenting doesn't help matters, either.
Mamoru is talking. "Oh? Okinawa? So then we haven't met before." It's driving her a little crazy... but no, she's probably just overthinking it. No magical shenanigans happening here. Probably.
Rei pushes it out of her mind to focus more on pouting in Minako's direction, unaware that Mamoru is doing the social equivalent of hiding behind her.
- Minako Aino has posed:
"So so so red."
Minako Aino interjects with impassioned glances between various individuals and Rei, inappropriate gestures with her fingers (after retrieving them from Rei's armpit, of course), and the (stage)-whispered mystery phrase, "LoveLove triangle."
She doesn't really contribute to the conversation or argue with Mamoru's nickname insistences. She also stands in front of everybody and attracts attention. And calls people 'Chibs-chan'.
- Queen Beryl has posed:
Mio looks at Mamoru as he addresses her. For a moment, when she's talking to her - even if he's calling her way of speaking silly - it's like nobody else is around. It's probably pretty obvious to everyone except maybe Mamoru himself.
"I'm just saying what I see. That you -" she points to Saburo, Minako, Rei - and finally Mamoru, where her gaze lingers again "- are different from all of the other people I've been around. Special. Especially you, Mamoru Chiba. But it's interesting that all the really special people are so often together." There's no malice in her voice - just an odd curiosity, a wonder that is also somehow still very detached.
"...and yes, the word is Tomato." she adds.
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino claims to be different. Super-different. Royal-magical-super-special-different. "You've got a good eye, Mimi. I'm an idol."
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Once Mio's not directly next to him, Mamoru relaxes fractionally, though her intensity is still a little offputting. He tries desperately to emphasize the other parts of the conversation. "Minako-chan, what are you even TALKing about?" he sighs, reaching up to pinch the bridge of his nose, slightly dislodging his glasses.
Then he just takes them off and hangs them from his shirt pocket, inside his jacket. "And sorry, Rei-chan, you're a little red. But it's probably just the sun. Let's go to Crown, right?" That just sort of came out as a sigh, from Hino-san to Rei-chan in zero seconds flat, not even noticing.
Then Mio's speaking again and he takes a half-step further back, so Rei and Saburo are also actually actively like a social wall with a hole in it, sort of. His smile is strained, and he glances at Saburo to see his expression. Is what Mio's saying making any sense to him, or is she coming off as some kind of robotic Luna Lovegood? And argh why is Mio being all 'especially YOU' this is so uncomfortable.
- Jadeite has posed:
Saburo draws a long breath in, allowing his attention to flicker over each member of the little impromptu gathering in turn before he settles them back on Mio. The hesitation and misbalance that had previously dominated his expression is gone, now. He squares his shoulders a little bit, voice gentle without being easy to move, like it takes up physical space. "Kuroki-san, with all due respect, maybe that says more about the quality of the people you've been spending time with more than it says anything about *us*. Certainly I think your *persistence* says something about it." If there's a tactical retreat in the making, apparently Saburo is volunteering to cover it.
- Rei Hino has posed:
Re's pouting fades. Mamoru's words help. "Right. Right. Just the sun. That makes perfect sense." She totally wasn't ticklish or anything. She starts heading into the arcade with a slight yet noticable huff.
Wait, did he just call her 'Rei-chan?'
Standing in the doorway she turns around at Mamoru, raising a finger as if to fuss at him further, when suddenly she's distracted by a poster. "Oh hey, Is that a new Sailor V game? Awesome!"
Awkwardness added: She's standing next to Sailor V.
More awkwardness: She can't mention or react to that knowledge.
Instead of going on with whatever she was going to say, she just walks inside somewhat stiffly before she gets even more flustered or embarassed.
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino does her best to look embarrassed and blushy. You might call it a 'Rei impression' if you were Minako. It's a pretty good show.
"Ooh, so you like Sailor V? You Loooooove Sailor V? The game?" she coos out.
"Me too, 'Rei-chan'. It's my fave. I mean, I'm a fan, but obviously not the biggest fan here. But we're all pretty 'quality' people. Let's hang out and game," she gushes, flailing her arms around in a not-so-subtle display. She also keeps saying 'Rei-chan', but emphasizing it just a touch more masculinely than she would if she were talking normally.
"Rei-chan."
It's enough to get a crowd and attention and at least one person waving to Minako and calling her the game queen champion, so Rei gets to experience lots of other randos being around to hear Sailor V fan confessions.
- Queen Beryl has posed:
Mio turns (mercifully) away from Mamoru to look to Rei and Minako, and watch as they share thier own little interaction. Mio walks - right - through the crowd, short as she is, and looks up at the poster of Sailor V. She's transfixed. Very transfixed. Not the same way she looks at Mamoru. Different entirely. Confused. There's even a little concern on her face. She then points to the Sailor V poster, close enough for Mamoru to hear - and maybe some of the others - but not the crowd itself.
"I know her." she says, pointing at that poster. "I don't know who she is. But I KNOW her."
If anyone is looking closely at Mio, they might notice the small tear that falls from her eye, a product of an overwhelming moment of emotion and half-rememberances.
- Mamoru Chiba has posed:
More exhalation, and Mamoru's just happier and happier that Saburo's there and clearly has his back. As they finally move toward the doors of the arcade, Mamoru leans in toward Saburo and says super quietly, so only he can hear, "Thanks man, she's been kind of unnerving me."
Then his eyes widen, and he reaches forward and pushes super lightly at Minako's shoulder as she precedes them in. "Hey, knock it off!" he says aggrievedly, and then has to stifle a laugh at Rei's sudden awkwardness because it's not HIS sudden awkwardness.
No. That comes a second later, because a second later, Mio's overcome with emotion and confusion, and she's bright-eyed and a tear falls, and he really doesn't deal well with girls crying.
With the world's most uncomfortable hesitation, he steps through and toward Mio, then puts a hand on her shoulder, patting it gently. "Do you have memory problems?" he asks, and it's not a mean question, it's a sympathetic one. "She's been in the newspapers and there's a couple movies about her, she's worked with the police to bust criminals..."
He glances to Minako like 'this is your job'.
- Rei Hino has posed:
Oh geeze. Oh geeze. The trolling is getting worse and Rei can't do anything about it.
Rei gains 23 GXP! (Grumpy eXperience Points).
Rei gains a Grump Level.
Rei gains +1 Sarcasm, +3 Grudge, +2 Annoyance, +5 impatience.
Rei learned: Tsundere!
"Oh, she's alright," says Rei, pretending to ignore Minako's gushing masculinity. "I mean, if that's your thing."
Mio, for a moment, grabs her attention. Especially with her insistence that she 'knows' Sailor V. Okay, that's more than a little weird, but it also goes in line with what Mamoru was telling her earlier. She glances towards Minako, wondering if the two of them have met before? For some reason, it seems so important.
"Y-yeah. Sailor V is a hero, and a famous one at that." She does talk her up right in front of her... though not without wondering how Minako's ego will react. "You've probably seen her before from that."
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino lets her lips curl up into a huge, accusatory grin in favor of her new best friend Rei.
"Well, I agree with you. And I'm happy to get to know you and your preferences more. It's good to know what your 'thing' is... it'll come in handy for birthday gifts," she says, fluffing up Rei's hair as a celebratory gesture for whatever reason Minako feels needs to be celebrated before literally sliding herself across the floor into the front of Mio's view.
"Ooooh, she is pretty awesome awesome kicky pretty, if I DO SAY SO MYSELF," she chirps, turning her head and leaning just so, letting her arm dangle and her other raise up in the vaguest pantomime of the poster's pose.
Then again, Sailor V is 'a hero' and 'famous' and 'most beautiful', as Rei-chan says," she notes. "But the poster model is a pretty cute one too," she adds, voice hinting so strong. She even raises her fingers into a V gesture and moves her hair a bit, just like the poster model.
- Queen Beryl has posed:
Mio blinks a bit. Minako's intruding into her view of the Pretty Soldier, Sailor V, has actually pulled her a bit out of the trance. She turns. "I'm... sorry. It's hard to explain?" she adds. This is an understatement. It sounds like she's reaching desperately for the words, like her mind is a foreign translation book.
"I mean. Obviously. I don't know her know her. I've never met her. But it's like I have. Things like that. It's why people stay away from me. They call me creepy." she says. Her hand is in her hair, and she's pulling it a bit, nervously.
And yet in an odd way this is more emotion than she usually shows. Like that picture pulled her a bit forward.
- Minako Aino has posed:
Minako Aino comments about voluntary touching and WHO COULD THE POSTER MODEL BE.
