Dinner and a Show
Date of Scene: 06 January 2016
Location: Pikarigaoka - Clover Tower
Synopsis: Takashi and Ami definitely do NOT have a date at the swankest restaurant in town. But they do meet to peer review one another's findings--or in particuliar, Takashi's findings related to the papers provided by 'Professor' Izono.
Cast of Characters: Takashi Agera, Ami Mizuno

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi Agera had a long night. A long night that included taking an orb of energy into the back and decidedly not getting a Jewel Seed. He pretty much collapsed into bed, and checked on his readouts in the morning. He did not like what he saw. A half-hour later, he liked even less what his tests showed. He pulled out his phone.

Ami-Chan TXT: Please tell me you didn't accept any internships from Professor Izono. Or any gifts. Or anything.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami is lounging about in her livingroom, texting Usagi when the message comes in from Takashi. Her mom is in the kitchen making breakfast, and for a rare treat, Ami actually has no responsibilities pressing on her. When the text comes in, she looks confused for a moment, and then realizes it's not from the person she's been texting with.

"Huh," she mumbles, then puts in a reply.

To Agera-san: I have not accepted any internships, although I do intend to continue investigating the interview opportunity. I suspect they are both fraudulent and evil, however.

Then she flips back to Usagi's conversation.

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi sighs a little bit in relief. Why did he sigh in relief, he suddenly stops to ask himself... Well, because he'd hate to lose a chess partner - that'd be a lot of practice down the drain. He's been beating all of his other opponents.

Ami-chan TXT: I can confirm both of your assertions. I've also been able to pull some worrying data. Can we meet somewhere? Talk it out over a meal maybe? I don't want to send it all over text.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami smiles at her texts with Usagi, then glances up at her mother again with a worrying look. She rolls her eyes, then starts to text Usagi again, only to have her text interrupted by an incoming message from Takashi. She halts mid-sentence, then reads his message.

Arching a brow, Ami debates how to reply to that. But first she finishes her message to Usagi. Finally, she returns to reply to Takashi.

To Agera-san: Somehow I am not surprised that you and I approach these things the same way. I'm spending the day with my mom, and I might actually be willing to give up the world for that. She has to go back to work tonight, though. I can do a late dinner. Say, 7-ish?

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi stops for a moment, reading the text. He finds his hand sneaking up to the locket that's around his neck again - stopping himself midway. When he texts her again it's almost with shaky hands until he regains a bit of stability

Ami-chan TXT: I understand that. Please, don't worry about it until this evening then. We'll have dinner at the Verde 45. It's at the top of Clover tower. Do you want to meet there, or your place?

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami continues her conversation with Usagi, fingers fllying over the keyboard as she inserts Kanji swiftly. When the next text from Takashi comes in, she flips over, and her jaw hits the ground.

"Holy crap," she breathes aloud.

"What's that, dear?" Doctor Mizuno asks.

Ami doesn't respond to her mother right away; she just texts Usagi rapidly while she tries to think this through.

After a moment, she looks up, "Hey, mom? I sorta just got asked on a date to Verde 45."

"Wait, what?" Doctor Mizuno asks, looking up at her daughter confusedly. "By Usagi-chan?!"

"What?!" Ami asks, then shakes her head, "No! No, it's a boy. And it's not really a date; he's a fellow academic. He mostly just wants to talk about a project we've been researching together, but that place is like super black tie, right?"

"Yes," Doctor Mizuno says, hesitantly.

"Mom, I don't think I've got a dress I can wear!"

"Oh, Ami-chan," Doctor Mizuno says with a smile. "Well, Mama will take care of that. You said you wanted to spend the day together. This seems as good a way to spend it as any."

Ami smiles broadly. "You really are the best, mom," she says, then goes right back to texting.

To Agera-san: Sure. But if you're taking me *there*, I expect you to wear a suit. I'll meet you at the base of the tower at 7, okay?

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi looks askance at his phone.

To Ami-Chan: What else would I possibly wear? Anyways I'll meet you there at seven. Please, enjoy the day with your mother.

Takashi leans back, and the smile goes to a frown as he looks over the data. "Man, this is going to be such a mess. I'd better enjoy this dinner." he says, hands running fingers backwards through silver-grey hair. He picks his glasses up from the table and puts them on, and spends the rest of the day sliding around in his chair all over his labratory, checking and doublechecking results and possible solutions.

    LATER THAT EVENING

Takashi is standing in a midnight blue suit with a black bow tie, and under one arm is a secondary copy - with necessary dangerous personal data expunged in a process that took Takashi over an hour - of the experiment results.

He's not looking at his watch - but Axion is helpfully telling him the time anyways. He's hoping he didn't make a mistake in not pushing the issue earlier.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami isn't too terribly late. Just a few minutes after 7, a black car drops her off in front of Clover Tower. She emerges in a lovely knee-length blue dress with tulle sleeves and a matching overskirt. Strappy black heels and a matching leather clutch are her accessories; she's dressed for fashion, not the weather!

But then, it shouldn't be too cold inside the restaurant. Nevertheless, Ami shivers almost immediately as she steps out the car. The driver pulls away slowly as Ami steps up to the tower, then smiles at Agera. "You clean up nice," she notes with amusement as she moves to join Takashi at the door.

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi looks. Okay, Takashi stares. For just a moment until he realizes he's being rude. Then he grins at her. "I'm sorry Miss, I'm waiting here for my chess partner." he adds before feigning shock. "Oh, she has been replaced by a terribly pulchritudinous young lady, I see!" Then he starts walking with her towards the elevators.

"Seriously, though. Saying I clean up nice? That is some very pot-calling-the-kettle-black stuff." he adds. "But I didn't come here to talk about our respective fashion senses." he admits as they step onto the elevator that takes them up to the top of the Tower, his facial expression falling a bit.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami actually giggles at Takashi's floundering. She has the good grace to blush at the compliment, but it's a very ladylike blush, rather than the childish itching hives she normally gets. "Well, you mentioned one of the nicest places in the city," she reminds him gently as she follows him into the elevator. "I thought it best to at least pretend like I'm a classy lady, even if we all know I'm just a chess nerd."

Ami's blush fades at his reminder of the more serious discussion at hand. "Mm, let's at least sit and get settled before you start pronouncing doom and gloom. Unless you think it's urgent? But if you did, I would hope that you would have warned me before you let me spend an entire day dallying about trying on pretty dresses and feeling like a princess."

Takashi Agera has posed:
"Ah, but now I know you're a classy lady and a chess nerd." Takashi says wagging a finger playfully toward her. "You can't hide your secret, elegant nature from me anymore, Ami Mizuno. You've revealed your true nature." This very anime-villian esque speech is delivered totally deadpan.

But then he turns to her. "You act like spending time with your mother shouldn't be an urgent priority." he says. This isn't sarcastic, or deadpan. It's a very real expression of how he feels about it. "Look, it's not good. I'm not going to say it is. But I don't think we could've done anything about it this afternoon anyways, and you're right, it can wait a little bit longer." he says, as they step out of the elevator and he walks up to give his name to the waiter at the front.

Verde 45 is so named because it's on the 45th floor of Clover Tower, the massive super-structure that broadcasts TV and radio signals through the Three Wards. It offers, if you can get a table on the edge, a massive view of the skyline of Pikarigaoka, Uminari City, and Mitakihara. On a late night, the view of the wards is nothing short of majestic. Of course, Takashi Agera has a specific reservation for a table that's near the back (away from the busier bar and center of the place) and next to one of the windows.

"I hope this is alright." he says, as they walk to the table. He's being serious here - the tone doesn't indicate he's fishing for compliments.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami's eyes widen just a little, and she blushes far more girlishly this time. "Agera-san!" she murmurs, very quietly. "You are being very forward to use my name like that." She rubs at her bare arms a little and takes a tiny step away from him. When they reach the restaurant floor, though, she waits for him to step out first, then follows him through.

As the waiter leads Takashi and Ami to their table, she sneaks views of the entire restaurant. It's beautiful, of course, in its muted and elegant greens. Her outfit was chosen to match: just light enough not to clash against the green, but blue so she doesn't blend in. When they reach the table, her eyes widen a bit, and she settles into her seat without a word. Of course she chooses the one with the most commanding view of the city, because if he's trying to impress her she's certainly willing to be impressed. "It's breathtaking," Ami admits, her earlier embarassment forgotten in the view of the brilliant lights below. "I've never seen Tokyo from this angle before." At least, not when she wasn't busy fighting for her life.

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi blinks a little bit as she admonishes him. "My apologies." he says, but then, as an afterthought. "If I'm going to use your first name, though, as you requested? You should use mine, as well."

He looks out at the scenery for a moment. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" If she's fast enough, she might catch that when he says this, he's not actually looking out the window anymore. Takashi, on the other hand, doesn't even notice himself doing it - he shakes his head though, as though pushing out whatever thoughts are rambling around in there.

The waiter is headed over with menus and takes orders for drinks - and Takashi, being Takashi, orders a Coca-Cola. Even in a ritzy place like this.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Takashi-san," Ami tests out his name thoughtfully, then shakes her head. "Takashi-kun," she says instead. It just sounds better. She smiles at him, then looks out the window at the city, while he's busy looking at her. "It is," she agrees quietly. "So serene. It reminds me of why I want to protect this," she says quietly. "I think if I ever start to forget, I'm going to come here again."

When the waiter arrives, Ami also orders Coca-Cola--literally speaking the words at the same moment as Takashi. She laughs at their mutual order, motions to him, then smiles at the waiter and begins looking through the menu.

Prices, of course, aren't even mentioned on a menu like this. And there are very few items. But Ami is quick to spot the fillet mignon and asparagas, and motions to it for Takashi. "I'd like this," she says to him with a smile. "I think it's proper that you order, however, in a place such as this."

Takashi Agera has posed:
When Takashi looks out the window at the cities, he sees something different, though. It's the same reason he likes flying so much - there's a part of him that just really relishes looking down on people from on high. That feels right, to him.

But it's clear Ami sees it differently. And there's some part of him - maybe coaxed out by the Escalation and Open Heart he's been subjected to recently - that feels the call out to the same things she's saying.

Takashi laughs too as they ask for their drink in unison, and smiles. "Sure. But you're missing out." he grins, as he points further down the line to a fillet mignon that's marinated in coffee. One of the specialties here.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami wrinkles her nose just faintly at the suggestion. "I appreciate it," she says quietly, "but coffee's too bitter. Maybe I'll steal a bite of yours to try it, though." Ami winks at Takashi, then turns to look out at the city thoughtfully.

And there, Ami falls silent for a short while, as she considers the landscape. She leans on her elbow, chin in hand, and just loses herself to the night.

Eventually she does come back out of her reverie--probably some time after Takashi has ordered, and without looking to him asks the question she's been dreading all day. "Alright. What did you find?"

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi decides to just lay it on the table - all of it - and he figures if he's grossly miscalculated in what Ami knows, or the magical nature of her abilities, he can have an awkward dinner, go home, and forget it happened. It's easier than asking every time.

"So I'm going to go out on a limb, and hope you understand what I'm saying. If it sounds like I'm insane, then just don't worry about it - but I have a sneaking suspicion you'll understand everything right off." he prepares.

Then, after a deep breath, he starts pulling out some papers from the folder. He passes them to Ami. "So. The pamphlets that professor was handing out? Dark energy. Not a little bit, either. Wasn't a sprinkling. The paper was coated in it, the printing press probably was made of it, and the printing house was probably some spooky black dark world. Practically dripping. And it's not just a plot to spread the stuff - there's a purpose. I reverse-engineered it."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami tears her gaze away from the window and reaches for the papers he offers. She says nothing as she goes over his results. After a moment, she reaches into her clutch and pulls out a pair of wire-rimmed reading glasses. With those in place, Ami takes her time, carefully analyzing his notes, his analysis, and his conjectures with a critical eye.

The end results are, without a question, unmistakable. "Damn," she whispers quietly, as she returns to the first page. "If you're right," she murmurs, "this is going to happen ... tomorrow." She looks up at Takashi over the rims of her glasses, a grimace on her features, just as their food arrives.

Ami moves the papers out of the way so that her meal can be placed before her, then sighs and reaches for her phone out of her clutch, as well. "Excuse me, there are ... some people I need to contact." But this isn't a normal looking cell phone. It's a beautiful sky-blue with gold trim.

Takashi Agera has posed:
"There's no if. I ran the calculations all day while I was waiting for our dinner, just trying to make sure they'd work out right every time. They do. There's zero room for error. And since I picked up multiple pamphlets - two from the show plus one that was delivered directly to me - I can confirm they're all like this."

"One was delivered to most people in Tokyo, as far as I have been able to check. And for a lot of people, it's gonna be way too late. Most humans have a really low tolerance for this sort of thing. If you have one yourself I really recommend incineration. Probably anything else she was hocking, too." Takashi leans back a bit as she makes her call.

"So I took the liberty of checking my archives for anything that might be able to counteract the damage. I've got... one waveform, that should be able to undo the damage. I'd think anything in the same general vicinity should be able to do it." he says, flipping to the page with the very familiar energy signature.

"Failing that, you can likely just exhaust them. It's a temporary madness, but it's going to be all consuming. So if you wear them out, they should be fine by the time they cease being unconscious. But..." he points dramatically to the waveform "...THIS is still your best bet."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"The one I have is safely stored in subspace," Ami murmurs, as she continues rapidly typing on her strange cell phone. She begins rubbing at her arms, scratching them gently, as a rash begins to form slowly. "Oh shit, the book," she says aloud, then grimaces.

Ami looks up at Takashi concernedly, then looks right back down at her phone and keeps on typing. It's another three minutes before she finally closes the phone. She doesn't put it away pleasantly; doesn't smile at him and resume their nice dinner. She just sits there, staring at the phone, clutching it in both hands as if she doesn't know what to do next.

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi waits for a second. Ami doesn't move. He leans forward. Ami doesn't move.

"Ami-chan." he says, softly. "Sitting here in shock isn't going to help anyone or solve anything, you know." he says, a bit pointedly.

Then he gestures to her steak with his fork. "You should eat your dinner. Ask me questions. Get your mind turning again. Tokyo's gonna be in bad shape tomorrow, and the last thing we need is someone talented like you sitting on the sidelines trying to reboot." His tone is direct, but not harsh - it's caring.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"I can't project a wave-form on command," are the first words Ami replies to Tadase. She swallows, then finally puts her phone away and grabs knife and fork. "Oh god, it's going to be so bad," she whispers. "Takashi," she doesn't use an honorrific, "I don't know what to do. This is so much bigger than anything I've dealt with." Bigger than the White Flower. "I don't know anyone in Virtue who can create a wavelength on command, like that. If I had ... a few days. Weeks, maybe? Maybe I could come up with that. But that's just not how it works, for me."

Ami begins cutting her steak into small, bite-sized pieces. She looks up at him, then rubs her face. "I let them know. Virtue knows, now, at least. God, I feel like such a failure. I didn't even analyze it; I just assumed ... I don't know what I was thinking. I've got so many threads I'm chasing in this tapestry, right now, and it's too much for me, Takashi-kun. I'm overwhelmed, and there's no one else in virtue I can rely on to help me analyze all of these problems. It's not that they're dumb, it's just ... the one person I could count on to understand my research is gone."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi nods - after stalling a moment over the use of his name sans-honorific.. "Well, someone can create it. I mean, I didn't make this up. I saw it. Well. I recorded it, anyways. In the field. Are you sure you've never looked at something like this? Or like... in the vicinity? I know it's not easy to visualize it on paper, since it's not moving." he admits. Shoulda put the animation on his phone."But please, try to. You might have more experience with this sort of thing than me."

"You're not a failure, though. Most people wouldn't have the faintest idea of what I'm saying." he observes, starting to cut his own steak and look up at her with his green eyes. "There's a reason that science is based around peer review. There's no one person that's going to get every solution right the first time. That's why I brought you all the relevant data, in case I made a mistake."

Notwithstanding the fact that Takashi does not have many people he considers 'peers' to do any such review. He's still not sure he puts Ami in that role, but he's giving her the benefit of the doubt. And any way you slice it, this is a major enough problem for him to step outside of his comfort zone - it's why he's here. If Ami can help disrupt this plot, then it's a better chance for him to get the crystal in question.

"It's not that they're dumb, I'm sure." He's not sure. THIS is the biggest lie he's said today. "It's just that what we're working with is way over most people's heads. Again, I could've given this to anybody currently involved in dealing with magical stuff - but I chose you. And you can always bring me in if you need assistance." After a pause. "If you trust me enough."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami opens her mouth to respond to Takashi, but it's somehow in the midst of all of this that she finally manages to look at the waveform he's presenting. She looks, and her heart skips a beat. Ami reaches up to grab the page from Takashi, then hugs it. "Oh thank god. Escalation," she says happily.

"I'll tell Sailor Moon," she promises Takashi with an honest smile. "She will take care of it." She offers the page back to him, then, and begins to eat in earnest. "Tomorrow's going to suck. But ... maybe, just maybe, we'll be okay."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi smiles a bit. "I thought you might know someone." He rolls the name over in his mind, almost visibly saying it silently, commiting it to memory, and considering where he's seen her. RIGHT. The experiment at the school. But he's also geuinely relieved; he didn't want to go through this gambit for nothing. That relief appears on his face.

He refuses the page. "No, no. These copies are all for you. In case something like this happens again." There shouldn't be anything in there that could backfire on him - not anymore than just giving the information at all could - in the future.

"I have faith that we'll be okay as long as you and I don't panic. We can leave the panic to other people..." he says with a grin. "It's our job to think, though, and panic's bad for that."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami nods her head at Takashi faintly. "You're right, of course," she says quietly. "I didn't mean to panic, I've just ..." she trails off, then sighs. "I've got literally twelve ... no, fourteen threads I'm chasing right now, and each of them is equally important. It's like trying to cure every form of cancer at once, and having no lab assistants or peers to bounce ideas off of."

She shrugs, faintly, then sets her fork and knife aside. She's eaten the entire steak, somehow, while they've been talking. Quickly and cleanly! "I know so little about your involvement in this world," Ami says to him quietly, "but I'm really grateful to you for bringing this to me. Maybe after this blows over we can figure out how to start peer reviewing one another's work. It would be really helpful."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi has two peices left as Ami starts talking, and he places one on her plate. He doesn't ask, he just does, since she mentioned it before. Then he pops the last into his mouth. "I'm sure we both have secrets we feel it's necessary to keep." Ami, you have no idea. "But this sort of plausibly deniable assistance will probably still be fine." Then he looks at Ami.

"Peers? I wish you luck trying to find any. If you're as intellectually competant in general as you are in chess..." he leans back and grins. It's another one of those mischevious ones. "Then all of the peers in Tokyo are quite likely sitting at this table." It's a fine thing to compliment the person you're looking at while also boosting your own ego. Takashi likes it.

The he blinks again, his mind dredging something up. "Did I hear you say something about subspace earlier, by the way? Before you underwent your hard shutdown?" he asks, incredibly curious.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami blushes a little at his compliment, but she pops the shared bit of meat into her mouth to save her having to reply. She chews carefully, thoughtfully, then swallows before admitting, "It's not actually as bad as I thought it would be. Still a little bitter, though."

Wiping her mouth daintily with her napkin, Ami drops the cloth onto her plate and shifts it aside so she can go back over his research on the dark energy again. "Yeah, that's one of my little tricks," she says absently of subspace. "I can create subspace pockets and tunnels," she says, then smiles up at Takashi. "Actually I'm really proud of that, but no on eseems to have noticed. It's not something most others like me can do; I reversed the process an Intelligent Device uses to create a Barrier, then realised I can't actually do that, exactly, so I ... just sorta worked out an alternative. I take a single point in space and expand it to the size I need, which result in a subpsace pocket. Tunnels weren't a difficult leap from there, although I've thus far only managed the energy to do a few miles at a time."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi listens to Ami, and as he's putting down his fork, and talks about her abilities - and he's actually so interested he stops putting his fork down mid-discussion. So it just hangs there, over his plate.

"That's actually really impressive. Also, you have experience with Intelligent Devices?" he asks, with a smile. "That means it's not just a similar term - it means you're actually accessing the same subspace I know about then, doesn't it?" he asks - and actually forgets about that fork. He drops it. It clangs loudly on his plate before he grabs it and firmly puts it on his napkin with a VERY STERN FACE before returning to Ami.

"A few miles is pretty good. I'm still vaulting between buildings." At least, as Frost Knight. Riventon's flight manouverability is pretty solid. "Jumping a few miles at a time though - that's handy. Do you experience any disorientation? Of the surroundings or of yourself?" he asks.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami covers her mouth, amused, at the sound of Takashi's fork clanging loudly on the plate. Of course several heads turn, and she tries desperately not to look embarassed, but mostly she's just amused at him. Her blue eyes meet his green, and once she has control again Ami lowers her hand back to her lap.

"So are you a device user, then?" Ami asks curiously. "I am not," she explains, just in case it wasn't clear. "But yes, I have interacted with more than one. I won't name names, to protect my allies and friends ... I hope you understand."

But now he's asking pertinent questions, and she can be very, very proud of her accomplishments, "No there's no disorientation. I mean, there might be if you have preconceived expectations, but I know what's going to happen when I step through the portal, so it doesn't bother me."

Ami shrugs, then explains, "I simply take two points in relativistic space, extrapolate a subspace field at both large enough to accomodate myself, and then use a gravimetric distortion inside the subspace fields to force those two points into a parallel convergence. Functionally it's no different than stepping through a doorway."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi can feel the moment where everyone's heads turn. Someone else might actually feel embarassed, or ashamed, but if there's one thing that Takashi's upbrigning has done for him, it's given him an unflappable confidence and charisma. So once he's done rebuking the fork with his facial expressions, there's a half smile and that's all it gets out of him.

"I didn't say that." he adds, in regards to his use of a device. He didn't not say that, either. "I do understand that, though. It wouldn't surprise me if we knew some of the same people, though."

"Yeah, I imagine being unprepared for a transfer like that would be confusing. But no nausea or tingling or anything. That's pretty impressive. Your tunnels must be very stable. I know someone who fell out of subspace and they weren't well for a while after, but that was uncontrolled."

He would like to say something specifically about Eclipse's stacked space, but he knows better. "That sounds like something I've encountered a few times before - but much more useful, because it's two points chosen at the moment." he says. He's not taking notes - because his Device is doing that for him. "So tell me, how do you ensure saftey at the exit point? Do you always just choose somewhere you know? Or do you have it somehow avoiding solid matter?" Since Ami's talked technical, he's asking functionality. "And creating a subspace field isn't any small task either."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Unfortunately," Ami admits to a flaw, "It takes a rather tremendous amount of energy, and the setup time is non-instantaneous, so it's not combat viable. But for swift travel across Tokyo it can be very handy."

Ami grins at his question, then leans forward and says, "Well, with my scanning software, I have catalogued hundreds of waypoints throughout the city that I consider 'safe exit points'. The conditions at these waypoints are stable enough--not accounting for weather, which I can calculate at the last minute--that I'm able to use them as permanent exit points. The probability of a non-anticipated event is less than a tenth of a percent."

Takashi Agera has posed:
"Most teleportation I've seen includes that problem, though. Dimensional Transfers are the standard and they take forever to set up. And then they're prone to interference. Have you been able to, or tried to, jump from within a barrier space to outside? I'm not even sure if that's technically possible... but I'm curious. Subspace doesn't follow the usual rules, as far as I can tell."

"That's a really good margin of error, especially for jumping like that. And I imagine you haven't been doing it as long as Dimensional Transfers have been refined, so you're likely to get that down. Do you know what the consequences of a failure would be - or what a failure would even look like?" Takashi asks, still squeezing her for information. "It does sound a lot better than vaulting rooftops.

"I mean, just the ability to manipulate subspace isn't something my archives have mentioned being capable of anything other than massive equipment, like the peices of that ship that fall around here. You can color me impressed. Whatever color that is." he adds with a grin.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Well I wouldn't describe it as 'forever'," Ami replies, taken aback at his choice of words. "Creating a local subspace pocket only takes me a few seconds. I've used it effectively as a trap. A subspace portal is only slightly more complicated than that, but I can generally generate one within the course of a sentence. Say, ten seconds, on the outset? I've not actually timed myself."

Ami shakes her head, then theorizes, "I'm fairly certain any localized events would either involve a subspace sheer caused by dark matter or a coexisting subspace field--which I cannot predict, of course--or would simply be an unwitting person walking by. But that's why I choose the waypoints I do: they're out of the way and unlikely to have witnesses or bystanders."

Takashi Agera has posed:
Takashi waves his hand. "I didn't mean what you're talking about, not your subspace tunnel - I haven't seen it in action, I can't judge time on it. I'm talking about Dimensional Transfer - that's the standard spell for moving people or things from an Intelligent Device. It takes ages to get working right. It doesn't tunnel or anything, it moves things through the universe directly and requires a tremendous amount of energy to set up and run safely. I mean tremendous. Nuclear power plant size, if I could convert it directly to electricity."

"On the scale of what I'm used to seeing, ten seconds is ridiculously fast." He nods at her explanations.

"Anytime you're working with subspace my big fear is a dimensional distortion - which is a fancy way of saying a tremendous burst of utterly uncontrolled energy that results from a lack of containment. They can, I understand, scour worlds or destroy them completly. But they're more common the bigger your fields are, so with what it sounds like you're doing I think the chances of that are infinitesimal. Even less if your spheres are stable." he says, nodding.
