Talk:Mamoru Chiba/Minako
Hey guys. I've been thinking about how to de-poison Minako somewhat and also leave her somewhat less of a hot mess for future applicants. It'd basically require temping Minako (which I'd be happy to do), and having her tentatively ask for a senshi meeting to talk to all of them, and pass the holy sword to someone (most likely Makoto) for safekeeping/for use in protecting Usagi, while she officially goes off with Artemis to figure out what's still wrong with her head and put herself and her perceptions back together.
I really feel like this is necessary, since she's been open so long and is -- despite having been a trainwreck pre-D-point and a nonentity afterwards -- still a vital part of the story, and could in fact play her way into being a vital part of the team /if she were played/... but she's not, and the longer she stays the unplayed elephant in the room, the harder it's going to be to justify her long unaddressed absence as a new player.
I want to talk to all you guys about this and get your input, and try to come to a good compromise or provide a good enough explanation if anyone has concerns about handling her this way-- I just don't want the character to continue to have this much of a disservice done her.
So definitely, please discuss! I'm opening a wiki talkpage for the discussion so the board doesn't get spammed. It's at http://www.mahoumush.com/Talk:Mamoru_Chiba/Minako :) To sign your name end your note with four tildes (~)

I think this is an awesome idea. Not sure how to go about it since I'm basically Newest Man On Cast and don't have some of the history to go with why Minako would be a poisoned well for a newbie.
Hilarious silly/please don't actually take this seriously idea: any of the Shitennou getting the Holy Sword even temporarily to pass along. I could see so much NOPE. --Alpine (talk) 22:32, 26 September 2016 (EDT)
I am interested in pursuing this idea! Frankly: Makoto has had so little positive interaction with Minako that anything, even a one-off, will be helpful in making sure the bad feelings haven't thoroughly calcified by the time we finally do get an active Minako player.
(Also if Makoto does end up temporary caretaker of the sword, I could totally see my way through to a moment of comedy in which Mako shoves it into, say, Nephrite's hands all 'HERE do something with this while I punch that guy'. Because, seriously, it's Makoto "using my phenomenal magic powers would take too long, I'ma punch it" Kino we're talking about. XD) -- Joiedecombat (talk) 22:47, 26 September 2016 (EDT)
I am pretty sure Kunzite secretly is sure that he would explode in holy fire if he ever touched that thing's hilt; he is not at all sure that it does not REMEMBER killing him before. XD ... Mako's mental image with Neph makes me crack up even harder.
That said: I am in favor of whatever makes it easier for Senshi players to deal with Minako ICly in future. Seriously. Particularly Usa and Makoto, who I think have been the hardest hit by the problems.

I'd love to see a played Venus (and a played Jadeite for that matter), so anything that will make that easier I'm in favour of. I dont know enough about what's gone on, game canon or actual canon, to have much of an opinion. It doesn't seem odd for Naru to have (almost) no experience with her, but that's courtesy of Naru being Naru rather than anything else. So have at as you will, is my 2 cents (Canuck even, which as we dont have pennies, rounds to the nothing it's worth. :) )

Staff-Theme-Tyrant-wise, I'm okay with this. It seems like an acceptable way to put Minako on a bus without shattering her already-thin bonds with the group or making her truly abandon her calling. You can consider this official bossman okay for the way this seems to be unfolding. I'd also be willing to play Minako for a scene or two if that would help move this along, though I know Mamo has offered as well.
I'm not a Senshi or Shitenou, but this sounds like a generally good idea to at least address the issue for current Senshi, etc. I think her giving the sword to Makoto would nip one of the major problems in the bud of easing off the tension there, ICly- since when I have seen Minako brought up in the past- that's been one of the major sticking points.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to also imply that Minako and Arty are taking care of something else while they're gone. Her taking off to resolve her issues is a great idea, but if she's gone long enough to miss a number of major events, I fear it would start to look selfish of her to stay away for only that reason. But maybe she can be taking care of something that's important, but wouldn't suit an entire team leaving town for. Investigating residual pockets of Dark Kingdom youma? Tracking down relics of Silver Millennium magical tech? Tracking rumors of a future villain organization? Depending on how the rest of the senshi want to play it, either she could be keeping that a secret for a future Minako to expand upon later, or they could be keeping in regular communication with her to exchange updates and intel.
(Nephrite is, of course, entirely happy to be Mako's sword holder while she kicks ass.)

I agree that it might be good, depending on how long it takes us to obtain an active Minako, for there to be some kind of senshi business she and Artemis are off working on in addition to sorting out personal issues. If that ends up being the case, I'd very much prefer that it not be something she's keeping a secret from the other senshi.
For one thing, if it's a secret then that doesn't help the possible outward appearance anyway, at least not until it's no longer an issue. But I also feel like having her keep something like that a secret would not help foster any sense of trust towards her or give Mako, at least, any reason to think that there's going to be any change in how Minako behaves toward the rest of the team. So at the very least I think it'd be better for her to be up-front about it if there is something else she's off working on, whether she stays in regular contact to keep them apprised of the specifics or not.
