The Best Gifts
Date of Scene: 29 December 2016
Location: Earth Court Frat House
Synopsis: Kyouko has a present for Mamoru.
Cast of Characters: Kyouko Sakura, Mamoru Chiba

Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Christmas day. Kyouko has camped out in the ECFH living room with a literal pile of presents on the living room coffee table. This is the first year she's had the means to buy presents for... well, anybody. So she sort of went overboard.

Her goal is to sit here until she gets everbody. So far, Kunzite and Naru have been presented. Now, Kyouko is lounging on the couch. She's got on jeans and a t-shirt and... a Santa hat. But it's been quiet for a while, and she's dozing, arms crossed and feet up on the table next to the remaining presents.
Mamoru Chiba has posed:
The fear of god is in Mamoru as he creeps out of the hallway in his pajamas, behind the couch where he sees a santa hat. All he wants is coffee. That's it. Just coffee, and then maybe later Kunzite will make breakfast and breakfast is always most rockin' if Kunzite makes it, and oh god that's Kyouko and there are presents on the table and he heard the ruckus earlier and he's saving all his fuss-cope for the New Year's party, and--

--with his eyes on Kyouko, Mamoru trips over a half-abandoned Jadeite project, and his arms pinwheel and his eyes are wide as he topples in slow motion--

--and there is a resounding CRASH as the Prince of the Earth in fuzzy yellow pajamas takes out a wooden TV tray with extreme prejudice.

"...owwww..."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko was napping peacefully. She might have stayed safely asleep. But the spirit of Christmas will not be denied, and it punishes Mamoru for trying to avoid it. Crash. Kyouko leaps to her feet like a startled cat, eyes wide, tense and darting. Seeking out the danger. Of course, in this case the danger is mostly to the tray table.

Her eyes settle on Mamoru. "Holy shit dude, are you okay?" At least that comes out of her mouth first. But on its heels, she has grabbed a small package wrapped in yellow and black off of the table and is carrying it over to where Mamoru still sprawls.

She offers her (free) hand, and grins a little. "Merry Christmas, jerk. Cmon, on yer feet."
Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Mamoru's rubbing his forearm, where he's acquired a defense wound from his epic battle with the tray table, and he's grimacing-- but of course, by the time Kyouko's over there offering him a hand up and he's answering her first question, he's obviously fine. "I'm fine," he mutters in embarrassment as he takes the proffered hand and eyes the bumblebee package in Kyouko's other hand warily. "Um, happy Christmas. I'm going to make coffee if no one else did yet, do you--"

A beat.

He's really only partly awake yet, so as he takes a step toward the kitchen, he steps barefoot on a piece of tray table and flinches. "Look let me pick this shit up first. Jadeite's whatever inclusive-- Kyou-chan I didn't get you anything, I got you a thing for New Year's..." he says helplessly, spreading his hands and then crouching to start putting smaller pieces on the underside of the (intact) tray part of the table. "I mean if you want me to give it to you early I can but that's when everyone else is getting theirs..."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
"Kunzite made coffee earlier." Kyouko says, with a little grin. "There should be some left."

She's stooping to help gather up pieces too, as he does, or at least push them out of the way. But as he starts protesting, explaining his lack of present for her, Kyouko holds up a hand to forestall any further. "Listen, Mamoru," She says, in a quiet, but firm voice. "I needed to do this. You gave me the biggest gift of my life this year. You don't owe me nothin' else." A little smile, and she pushes the gift into his hands, before turning, feet shuffling against tray debris, and walks back to the couch.

"But I needed to do this for me. So just be quiet and open it." She sits back down, hands in lap. "But you can get coffee first if you want."
Mamoru Chiba has posed:
"...okay. Okay that I get," says Mamoru with something like a laugh and something like a sigh of relief. The tray table full of broken and project pieces gets pushed under the couch and he stands up, meeting the gift-push halfway. "And coffee can be-- coffee first or you won't get a properly lengthy reaction," he decides, then carries the present into the kitchen and doesn't put it down -- he carries it carefully in his teeth while he pours coffee then comes back out, present in one hand and coffee in the other.

Silently, he sips the coffee super carefully then puts it down, and sits next to Kyouko, and then trollishly slowly begins tearing the paper while watching her out of the corner of his eye.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko nods at Mamoru's words. She was confident he would get it. Red eyes track him as he walks into the kitchen, but she very deliberately does not say anything. When he comes back out and sits next to her, she leans just a little. She's practically vibrating with impatience, felt more than anything else, and she fidgets incessantly as the Prime Troll takes his time unwrapping the gift.

It's a book. A kid's guide to gemstones, the sort with big color photos and glossy pages. On the pages corresponding to the guys, Kyouko has taken a sharpie and added... embellishments. The pictures of cut gems have had little faces and stick-figure arms and legs added. Kunzite is all like <srs face> and Nephrite's all like :^). There's little props all around each page. Zoi-rock has long hair and Kunzite has a pile of books and Nephritis has a Hawaiian shirt and wine bottles.

There's no full page for Apatite, but there is a picture down in the corner of a page. She has a little fang and angry eyebrows.

On the last page, which was blank, Kyouko has drawn in sharpie each of the little stick-rock-figures all together. In these middle is a little stick figure in a top hat. At the thereof of the page she's just written "Thank You". The very bottom says "<3 Kyouko".
Mamoru Chiba has posed:
On finally getting the paper open enough to see enough of the cover to identify it, Mamoru rips the paper the rest of the way open; as he opens the book itself and starts to look through it, he can't look at Kyouko, but she can see the smile on his face: smiling so hard it could punch through mountains. And as he turns the pages, he has to go more slowly again because for some reason they're getting blurry?? like?? magic moving pictures that look like they're underwater??? do not understand--

--and he has to lift the cuff of his jammie sleeve up to his face before any splashes ruin the glossy pages or make the marker ink run, and it's a suspiciously wet-sounding startled laugh from him as he sees the Hawaiian shirt and wine bottles, and it comes with a sniffle and another tiny cough-laugh at the end of that. The last page--

Mamoru's abruptly leaned over, book still on his lap, to wrap Kyouko in a no-shame stupid big bear-hug, all sideways because of next-to sitting. And he mumbles into her hair with another little shaking laugh, "I want to blow those up and frame them."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko's smile grows and grows as she watches Mamoru open and then page through the book. She looks positively smug. She's just grinning so hard by the end, and then he's hugging her, and she's laughing and wrapping her arms back around him and squeezing.

"My art ain't worthy of a frame." She says, and her voice sounds suspiciously shaky too, but she's got herself under control. She tilts her head slightly and rests it against his. "You gave me a family, Mamoru. Nothin' I could give you could ever equal that. But I wanted to at least show you how much it meant to me. So.. thanks. Again, and forever."

A stronger squeeze, and then she's leaning back. "Plus, you're really hard to shop for, rich bastard." She laughs fondly.
Mamoru Chiba has posed:
Thick-voiced and laughing with more sniffles, Mamoru lets Kyouko lean away, but slings an arm around her shoulders, one hand back on the book, tracing the figures on the last page. "Dummy. This is the best kind of present. All I know how to get people is dumb toys and cute things and joke things. This is the best. Right here. Because you're the best."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Aand now she's blushing. But she settles comfortably against Mamoru when he slings an arm around her shoulder, and really just looks pleased as punch. "I'm glad you like it." She says, and her happiness rings in her voice. "Now if I can just catch Zo-nii.."
