Large dog, smol conbenie
Date of Scene: 10 January 2017
Location: The AM/PM Mini Market
Synopsis: Nanami and Alcyone meet Kyouko! There's snappishness at first, but the Magical Professional teaches the Magical Noob about a couple things.
Cast of Characters: Nanami Hamakawa, Kyouko Sakura

Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami is stubbing along with Alcyone at her side, looking groggy and entirely out of sorts. Her braid is slubby, nowhere neat as she normally keeps it, her eyes half-lidded. She's bracing her weight more than usual against Alcyone's harness handle as she walks into the conbenie. She doesn't want to worry her parents, so she's making it a point to spend time out of the house. Alcyone pauses after a moment, in front of a shelf that's too low for Nanami to easily reach, and picks up the bag of chips.

"...I guess that's fine, Allsie, but it's not like you to pick things for me." Alcyone grumbles slightly, tail wagging back and forth in a slightly doggy 'sorry' wag. "Not that I'm complaining, I just... it's new..." The average person might think they hallucinated the mumbled, muffled not bad??? from Nanami's hip. Nanami... responds to it. "No, not bad."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko is behind the counter of the small store, where she generally is when she is on-duty. She's wearing her usual work uniform, which consists of a black t-shirt and jeans, beneath the orange apron with the AM/PM Mart logo on it which marks her as an employee. She's poking at the register when Nanami comes in, but the sound of the door opening results in her sing-songing, "Welcome to the Am/Pm Minimart~" in a rote greeting that is a nearly pavlovian response by this point in her career.

Only after she finishes whatever she was doing and hits a button on the register does she actually look over.. and blink slightly at the girl and her large dog. "Hey, kid, no dogs in the store." She says, with a faint frown. "Not even talking ones." The angle is such that she can't clearly see the harness on the dog, and so clearly doesn't realize it's a service animal.
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami's half-lidded gaze shoots up and becomes sharp, intense. "Learn to read, then." She gestures at Alcyone's harness, where the embroidered patches stating her status as a service dog are. They're under the handle that Nanami is resting her weight on. Her gaze is direct, an ice-shard glare. "I can take off the leg brace, too, if you have issues with cripples." The venom in her tone is practically reflex. She's used to pettiness regarding her disability, and is very bitey as a result. Nanami and Alcyone move to where Nanami can more clearly face down the other teenaged girl.

"...She heard..." Alcyone says around the bag of chips in her mouth. This gets Nanami to start, and process the rest of what Kyouko said.

"...You heard a dog talk and you're not acting like you just had a few special brownies?" It's a question, but only a mild one, and the glare turns into a look of suspicion.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
"Hey," Kyouko snaps, because people snapping at her in her own store is not something that her temper deals with particularly well. "I can read, my only issue with cripples is when they're rude to me because I didn't see the damn patches, alright?" She pauses, then takes a deep breath, obviously stuffing her temper back down. "Sorry." She says after a moment. "The dog's fine."

She glances down to said dog again at the question of it talking, and more importantly, her hearing it. "Sure," She says, with a mild shrug. "Talking dogs, talking cats, talking little flying yellow lions, even talking birds. I seen it all, kid. I'm more concerned with dogs that take merchandsie off the shelves than dogs that talk." She eyes the bag of chips, as if concerned the dog might run off with it.
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
"And I'm used to people being nasty, since Nanami's harness is usually the only thing people see until I move." Her gait, notably, is pretty obviously messed up, with her right leg moving incredibly stiffly. "Sorry about that." The dark-haired teenager snorts at the comment about 'take merchandise off the shelves'. "That is another assistive task. I can't bend down that low without basically... sitting on the floor, so Alcyone grabbed it for me." Alcyone is holding it for her, in an incredibly soft-mouthed grip.

"Little flying yellow lions? Sounds like the stuffed animal-looking thing from last night, though..." Nanami shakes her head a little, offering the bag of chips to Sakura to ring up. "I... are you familiar with magical girls?" She doesn't want to sound crazy, but since Kyouko is taking Alcyone talking in much better stride than she did last night... well, maybe the redhead won't think she's dropping acid. There's an almost feverish, tired-but-intense look in her face. It almost seems scared.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
"Sure, I know about magical girls." Kyouko says, casually, without tipping her hand too much. She takes the chips from the girl, after they are retrieved from the dog, and rings them up. "100 yen, please." She says, automatically, placing them in a bag and then pulling it up onto the counter where the other girl can reach it. "Why?" There's a bit of a suspicious look, as if the handicapped girl with the service dog might actually be some kind of spy.

Well, nobody ever said Kunzite was the only paranoid Shitennou.
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami hands over the money. Her expression brightens considerably at that confirmation. "...Something happened last night and-- I was worried I was going crazy, or something. ...Alcyone couldn't talk before last night," she admits. Alcyone nods, forehead wrinkling as she tries to think of the words she wants, the concept she's got in her head. She's not used to thinking like this, not right now.

"...Dark... hurt Nanami, almost killed us," Alcyone adds. Nanami looks around, almost paranoid. "Nanami tired now." Simple thoughts, since she's not used to thinking or talking quite at this level.

"...Yeah. And since then, I've just been... really tired." She also has a Weird Marble, but she's not sure if the Weird Marble would mean anything to the redhead.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko rings the money into the cash register, and presents the receipt in the appropriate manner. "Uh huh," She says, with absent interest, as if she's heard this sort of story am illion times before. She leans an elbow on the counter, eyeing the girl and her dog on the other side. "What almost killed you, if you don't mind me asking?" This addressed to the pair in general.

She considers a moment, then grabs a small pad from beside the register and scribbles down something. She passes it over. Its the address of the ECFH. "Look, if you get in trouble and need help, go here, okay? Some good guys live there who sort of make a habit out of helping magical girls. It's safe." She pauses, and then adds, "But don't even think about causing trouble there. You'd regret it. Not that I think you would, you look harmless as a puppy," She asides to Alcyone, "No offense," then continues, "But I'm obligated to give the warning anyway."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami tucks the chips and receipt away, sighing gustily. Oh thank god, she's not losing her mind. "It was some kind of card, I think? There was a little girl with a bunch of cards she used to get it sealed away." Alcyone just watches Kyouko, tilting her head. "We got-- more or less launched off a roof, and there would have been some nasty spine injuries for both of us if... well... High-pressure water apparently has enough force to slow a fall like that."

Also, fur coat. Nanami is still not sure about the fur coat.

Still, Nanami takes the address and tucks it away. "It'd take more energy than I have right now to cause trouble, and... I'm not a big fan of starting things, anyway." The brown-haired teenager smiles tiredly for a moment. "...Are you-- god, this sounds insane, but I guess that's the new normal-- are you a magical girl, too?"
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko's phone bings, and she picks it up and eyes it, smirking as she taps out a reply, while listening to Nanami. She puts the phone back down afterwards, and regards the girl and her dog across the counter once more, crossing her arms over her apron and seeming to debate what the best way to answer that question is.

"I'm a magical professional." She finally settles on, with a half-smile. "Tell them Apatite sent you," She gestures to the address. "They'll look after you, if you need it."

As for the events of last night, she rolls her eyes slightly. "Sounds like Sakura. Girl is a handful. And those cards of hers seem designed to cause trouble. Seems like you came out of it alright, though."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
"...Right, as opposed to a complete newbie," Nanami says with tired good humor in her voice. She debates the name she's given before settling on a response. "That name sounds hard," she offers. Alcyone gives Nanami a slight glance, used to her handler getting bad responses (groans, threats, the occasional thrown snack) when she uses that tone of voice. "I'll tell them. I'm Nanami, by the way."

"Yeah... she seems to have it handled better than me, considering I attacked the thing with the light from my phone."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
"No, I just think it sounds more dignified." Kyouko says, sniffling slightly. "I'm a magical professional. I solve magical problems." Generally by stabbing them, but she doesn't mention that part." She leans over the counter, propping her chin on her hand. "It's not hard. It's a gem. Look it up sometime. Very pretty. Nice to meet you, Nanami."

Kyouko rolls her eyes. "No offense, but Sakura-chan having something 'well-handled' doesn't sound like the Cardcaptor I'm familiar with. But it was your first day, I suppose you can be forgiven for being impressed."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
"...It was a bad pun, since rocks are hard," Nanami says. "I speak English pretty well, so words like 'Apatite' don't really throw me off much." Nanami smiles crookedly, half-bowing at Kyouko.

"I didn't say well, I said better than me, and that is because it's my first day." There's a slightly thoughtful cast to her expression. "I think I might go... I don't know, take a nap or something. Know any good spots relatively nearby for someone to chill?" She gestures at her right leg a little, indicating the need for close.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
"Oh." Kyouko says, looking mildly annoyed with herself for not recognizing the pun for what it was. But she doesn't speak much english at all. Being a middle-school dropout tends to put a crimp in things like that. "Well, fair enough," She then says, with regards to Sakura. "I'm sure you'll do fine kid, there's plenty of people around this city who can help you out."

She pauses, then adds, "Just don't trust anybody named Miss White, or anybody from a group called WPS, alright? They're troublemakers."

As for spots to chill, she shrugs. "Well, you're right in the middle of downtown. There's a little shrine a few blocks down though, that's pretty quiet and has some nice places to sit."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami nods a little at the advice. She tucks it away in the corner of her brain that is afflicted with a particular genre-savvy worry, a worry that if she's showing up, there's something to fight. "One last question before I leave. Seen anyone with weird marbles like... this?" She fishes in her pocket, digging out the Weird Marble. It's weighty, as if it were a solid marble, but looks hollow inside, with a small amount of what appears to be slightly-glowing water in it, enough to fill it half-full. It stays in Nanami's hand, as if she's averse to letting it go, somehow. "That showed up last night, and it's... weird."
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko eyes the Weird Marble. "Nope. Never seen nothin' like that before." She shrugs a little bit. "That's probably your magical focus, though. Most magic people got 'em. Sort of like a talisman that focuses your powers." She holds up her hand, showing off the silver ring with the red gem set in it, worn on the middle finger. "That's mine."

"You should take care of it. Bad things usually happen if your Focus gets messed up. If they can be messed up. Depends on the focus." She shrugs her shoulders again. "But no I ain't seen one like that before."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami nods, gnawing on her lower lip a bit. "...Anyone in town do wire-wrapping who would ignore it being... well... I keep calling it the Weird Marble, since it kind of looks like one." That way she can wear it, or hang it off of Alcyone's collar, or something. "I'm glad I asked. I'm not sure if it can get messed up, but... I guess that also explains why I didn't want to set it down, though!" Nanami chuckles, though it's a 'nervous tension-release' chuckle more than any actual humor.

"I'm going to stop being Obviously Weird in here though-- I mean, what if someone normal came in? Thanks for the advice." Nanami half-bows again.
Kyouko Sakura has posed:
Kyouko shrugs her shoulders a little bit. "Eh, normal people tend not to notice. Somethin' about magic trying to keep itself a secret." She makes a vague shooing gesture, but it's more friendly than actually dismissive. "Go on then. Come back if you need somethin' else, or if you need any more advice. I mean, I do actually work here so I gotta do my job, but. I know people. If you need a contact, I'll see what I can do."
Nanami Hamakawa has posed:
Nanami nods, heading out with a slight wave. Alcyone's tail is wagging slightly as they go, the dog happily whuffing at the air as if she weren't anything different from a normal Newfoundland, white spot on her forehead and suddenly-developing ability to speak and think more like a human be damned.
