People intrested in apping this new OCC might find the following Information Useful. This is taken from the original player's application. This is just the Background, Personality, Friends and Combat Section.

3) Background: What’s your character’s past? What put them where they are when they start the game? If they haven’t discovered their secret magical life yet, please include, briefly, how you expect that to happen.

Kazuki's first life was during the Silver Millennium, born into a line of historians, his name was Astraeus. His family was entrusted with the protection of a magic tome that maintained a historical record of important events that shaped not just the Earth, but the entire solar system. They were also celebrated magisters, known to possess fair skill in the art of magic. As the first born child, it was expected that Astraeus would take upon the responsibility of being the tome's guardian. This was a role that he had no trouble accepting, being fascinated by the history of all the worlds.

Astraeus was still fairly young when guardianship of the tome was passed on to him. His father, its original protector, was lost and it fell to Astraeus to continue the family role. The magic powers that it provided to its protectors were his to wield. So too was an apprentice position within the royal library of the Golden Kingdom. He wasn't the only historian there, though he was the youngest and the status of his family always separated him from the rest. As a result, Kazuki focused on his study of history and training with magic. With the devotion to his role, Astraues learned quickly both the secret history of the solar system and the use of magic. It was a good thing to, as his role at the royal library also included teaching the basics of magic to the newest members of Earth's ruling class. This was his first meeting with the kingdom's Prince Endymion and would lead to numerous stories in the years to follow as he tutored (or tried to) the young man in using the Golden Crystal.

Unfortunately, all things come to an end, including the Golden Kingdom. As the forces of darkness broke upon the kingdom, Astraeus was forced to watch as people he knew were killed... Or worse, fell to the corruption. Chained by his duty to the tome, and realising that its knowledge and power could not fall into dark hands, Astraeus had no choice but to leave everyone behind at the end. Astraeus sought out a lesser known branch of his family in a more remote area. He placed heavy seals on the tome so it could not be found and used, unknowingly connecting himself to the tome in an unexpected way. He then hid it away with his distant family, leaving it behind forever so that it could not be tracked through him. He then returned to try and find any survivors of the attack, only to fall like all the rest.

For countless generations the tome was passed down. Remaining dormant, knowledge of its true existence was lost to time. Eventually it simply became a strange book, passed down through tradition. However, the seals placed on the tome were not everlasting, slowly breaking down as time passed.

We now come to modern times. With the failing seals, and slow return of magic to the world, the tome began to wake from its slumber. It began to resume its function, recording history. With that came a need for a guardian, but none of its current owners were capable of bearing its power. Then fate intervened. The reincarnation of others from the Silver Millennium echoed within the tome, touching upon the ancient connection forged with its last protector. On the edge of that reincarnation magic, Astraeus was reborn as Kazuki Saito.

Kazuki was once again the first born. His early childhood was fairly normal, eventually leading to the birth of his sister. Although she was born weak of body, Kazuki adored her none-the-less. He doted on her often, up until her body finally succumbed to the weakness and she passed away. Kazuki was only ten. As a result he fell into deep despair, isolating himself from everyone. One day, hoping to engage his son and distract him, Kazuki's father introduced him to the heirloom of their family. This was Kazuki's first interaction with the magic tome. He simply dismissed it as a pointless antique.

Then one day, Kazuki's family home was caught in a neighbourhood fire. No one had been there at the time, so there were no injuries. However, when going through the remains of their home, Kazuki discovered the tome. Everything around it was charred black, but the book itself was unmarked. This intrigued Kazuki and he resolved to learn more about this strange object. His parents and grandparents knew essentially nothing about it, and also dismissed any of Kazuki's claims about its strange nature. With no one else to go to, Kazuki began to research the tome's origins through any means he could. It was during this that he realised his passion for books and all the wonders they contained.

As Kazuki continued his research, he slowly started coming out of his shell. He began to develop relationships again, finding friends amongst his schoolmates. What simply started as a way of finding out more about the tome turned into the cure for his depression. But it didn't stop there. Shortly after Kazuki turned sixteen he was accosted by something he couldn't identify. A creature of shadow, like nothing he'd ever seen before. Kazuki knew his life was in danger, but there was nothing he could do about it. Then suddenly, the tome appeared floating in the air in front of him. It opened, its pages flipping over and glowing with a majestic light, scaring off the dark creature and saving Kazuki. Upon touching the floating tome, Kazuki's guardian connection was forged with it, unlocking his magical potential and opening his mind to a new world.

It has been a couple of months since Kazuki realised his magical abilities, though he has yet to use them for anything significant beyond practising. The tome remains mostly blank, though Kazuki has a feeling that it was not always this way. However, without guidance it has been slow going for the young man. His ability to control the magical pages of his tome has been increasing bit by bit. During this he has noticed strange things happening, things which most other people don't seem to recognise. It is obvious that something unusual is happening in the world and Kazuki resolves himself to find out what it is.

4) The More You Know: Personality: Give us a brief rundown of what makes your character tick, how they present themselves to other people, what they keep locked up inside and what color their shirt is when they wear their heart on their sleeve.

On the outside, Kazuki is your fairly typical friendly-type. He tries to be helpful, courteous, respectful... When he sees someone feeling down, he'll do what he can to make them feel better. When he sees someone doubting themselves, he'll try his best to make them realise their value. He's not as shut away as he once was. He will not tolerate people being bullied, or hurt by others. He will step into the path of said harm to spare others from it. He generally appears to be an all-round nice guy.

Things are a little more complicated on the inside. Kazuki hides it well, but he often feels directionless, uncertain. He acts the way he does not because of any real personal reason, but because it's expected of him by society. He's not a bad guy, nor can his actions really be considered fake or insincere. It's just that he doubts his reasons for them. Kazuki often questions what his fate will be, what destiny has in store for him. He's searching for a purpose. He might have found it as a protector of the tome and by fighting the forces of darkness, but he also has no idea where this path will lead him or if it's one he even wants to follow. All he knows is he has power now and he has a responsibility to try and use it for the good of others, regardless of his own desires... Of course, he also doubts whether that is truly the right thing.

Hobbies and pastimes: What does your character do in their spare time? What school clubs, athletic or otherwise, do they participate in? Are they super social or reserved studybugs?

Kazuki is a member of the origami club at the university. He's a natural at it, discreetly wielding his control over paper to help create these works of art. He finds the hobby a nice change of pace from the rest of the world and that it can also be a good way to express and convey feelings to others without the use of words. Kazuki is only part of the one club though, as a lot of his non-school time is spent working part-time at the local library. Another thing he's quite good at doing, having a strong connection to the books thanks to his magic.

Hopes and dreams: What do they plan for their future, what do they dream of? How do they feel about magic and about the powerful forces at work in the world around them? How do they feel about the magical girl organizations out there, and the roles they and their friends play? What are their goals?

Kazuki doesn't actually have a plan for the future, which is a little troubling to him. He can't seem to find a path that he feels he should follow. He does have dreams though... Dreams of having a purpose he can believe in. Dreams of fighting for something worth fighting for. Dreams of finding these things. He sees the current strangeness of the world and his ability to interact with them as a possible means of achieving these dreams. In the other magic users fighting against the darkness, he sees possible friends, but also possible obstacles to finding what he dreams of.

Friends: A life is lived better with people around you that understand your feelings and share them. Who are your character's friends? How does your character feel about them?

Past - After speaking with the others in the cast, we have come to the following thoughts: As mentioned, back during the Silver Millennium, Astraeus was quite well acquainted with Prince Endymion, having been his tutor in magic despite being of similar ages. He both admired the young man, and was also rather frustrated by him at times. Especially after Endymion started dating Serenity in secret. This is how Astraeus began to know the Sailor Senshi. They shared a common problem of their royal troublemakers being more interested in each other than their studies. Also being somewhat versed in the history of the other planets, this sometimes led to conversations with the Senshi about as much. Astraeus also knew Endymion's four generals to a lesser degree. He didn't tutor them and was otherwise not in their service, so he mostly knew them through Endymion. With perhaps the exception of Nephrite due to their common scholarly natures.

Present - The present is a different matter. Having recently moved to Tokyo and transferred to Infinity University, Kazuki hasn't really developed friends yet. He has 'acquaintances' amongst his fellow students, people he hangs out with whether during breaks or clubs. But they're not really people he'd share personal details with. Having spoken with Mamoru's player, we've agreed that, through RP, the two will (probably) develop a friendship with one similar to what they had in the past, but reversed with Mamoru more of the mentor type. As for the Senshi, we decided it was easier if for the most part Kazuki hasn't met them yet. The exception may be Ami, who Kazuki may have seen around the library once or twice but hasn't been formally introduced to.

5) Fighting and combat: Here, we’ll deal with the combat section of the application, and deal with your stats! MahouMUSH keeps it pretty simple, so this form should be easy to fill out! Staff reserve the right to modify or set your stats for you (to get you on the MUSH quicker), and will set them for you from the get-go if you ask nicely. Most characters will have at least two stat blocks: one for their ‘base form’ (or human disguise, if a youma/antagonist type) and one for their combat form. Some antagonists that do not have a disguise will only have a combat form (e.g. Queen Beryl). The numbers are subject to change as characters grow and evolve (and gain new power-ups, as Mahou Shoujo tradition demands!) and as the combat system evolves as well.

Base Henshin: For the base (or disguise) form, all characters have 25 points to spend between the two primary stats of Spirit (Offense) and Heart (Defense); these stats individually cannot be lower than 5 or higher than 20.

Being my first character, I really have no idea! But I figure with his combat type as described below, a 60-40 split in favour of attack sounds like a good way to go. So 15 Spirit, 10 Heart. Of course, I defer to whatever staff feel is appropriate!

Combat Henshin(s): Currently, for the combat henshin, all characters have 60 points to spend between their two primary stats: Spirit (Offense) and Heart (defense). Currently, these stats cannot be lower than 15 or higher than 45. If you happen to have multiple combat henshins, you may list separate stat sets for each henshin.

Pretty much same as above, so 36 Spirit, 24 Heart.

Iconic Attack(s): A character may have more than one, but all characters should have at least one, e.g. Moon Tiara Action! or Supreme Thunder!

'Legend Reborn' - For now, and probably quite some time, Kazuki's only Iconic attack. But it also technically counts as multiple Iconic attacks. This is due to its function. When certain pages in the tome are complete, they allow Kazuki to summon manifestations of people or events in the recorded history of the tome. For an example, I plan his first one to be called 'Legend Reborn: The Rider', which creates the shape of a warrior on horse back, charging the target for a powerful attack, before vanishing again. These manifestations might, in the future, have the option of appearing in solid form, depending on what they are. But initially they are simply made of magic. But the idea is their appearance is usually brief. There can of course be exceptions if plot calls for it.

Fighting Style: Describe your character's powers and general style of fighting here. What is their power set based on? Elements, a specific feeling? What do they tend to do in a fight? Do they generally fight melee with fists and weapons, or do they usually hurl thunderbolts and rays of love and healing? Do they feint and distract, do they stand back and feed tactical information to their teammates?

Kazuki's fighting style revolves around his tome and his control over paper. The tome is capable of creating a theoretically unlimited supply of magical paper sheets. These sheets can be quite sharp, and can also become extremely solid, capable of surviving against many things that normal paper wouldn't. However, Kazuki's control is skill based and in the beginning he'll only be able to control a few sheets at once to perform basic forms of attack and defense. As his skill grows, he can control more sheets and make them do more types of things. The tome itself can also be used, both to club people with or block attacks. The tome can be damaged, but given time it will repair itself.

However, Kazuki is unlikely to use the tome much, since his preference in a fight is to stand back and provide ranged attack support. Although he's starting out as a newb, I wouldn't be surprised if in time he also began to develop tactical skills to offer advice and help guide his allies.

Also, since there isn't really anywhere else to put this, I'll just make a few additional points on the tome itself, belatedly named the 'Watcher's Tome'. It contains a large amount of history leading up to the end of the Silver Millennium, when old-Kazuki placed his seals on it. It has also started to record recent history, since the awakening of Kazuki's power. The information recorded isn't all encompassing. It focuses on fairly significant events that are easily witnessed. It might record a battle fought within a castle far away, but not some lieutenant of evil meeting in secret with their ruler.

Additionally, this information isn't immediately accessible. For one, the further back you go, the harder it is to read and the more skill it requires to do so. To add to this further, some of the seals old-Kazuki placed on the tome still remain, if deteriorating. As a result, the tome is mostly blank. Though with each use, the seals deteriorate further and words begin to appear on the pages. Even then, they start out in an unreadable form, only coalescing into something legible once the entire page is restored. This is the general idea behind the development of Kazuki's power. The more he learns to use the tome and his powers, the more words appear and the more he unlocks. This also makes it convenient in both keeping events of the past secret, or revealing them for plot purposes.
