Cast of Characters: | Nadeshiko Fujisaki, Kukai Souma |
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
It's been a few days since he's seen Kukai, not counting school, and a few days since The Incident. (That's what he's come to call it in his head to try and stall the cacophony of emotions storming through, but it doesn't work.)
Of course, he's seen him in school. Or Nadeshiko has. But the thing about taking up a part is it's easy to observe and hide behind masks, and whenever she'd get up the nerve to actually look over at him, he was otherwise occupied.
Add to that that he can't find his phone and has no idea if attempts at contact has been made, he's been trying to chalk it up to a fluke.
A very nice fluke, of course, but a fluke nonetheless.
He's not exactly sure how he finds himself scaling the wall of a downtown store. All he knows is a little girl was crying because her brother had thrown her dolly too high and it snagged on an air conditioner. He's precariously stretched from the thankfully stable drainpipe toward the unit, leaning in and shifting weight and finding new footing until the vinyl foot is in his hand.
When he's safe on the ground again, the girl rushes up and snatches her dolly back, snuggling her close. He smiles and ruffles the young child's hair when something catches his eye.
When he spots Kukai, it's like he's frozen where he stands.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai Souma had been sort of busy since the other day. School, practice, patrolling, life. It meant that he hadn't had the time to get to where he could call or text Nagihiko. Finally, late the next day, he'd sent him a neutral sort of greeting.
And then waited. And waited. And went to sleep. And woke up, and waited, and went back to school and saw Nadeshiko, and went to practice, and waited some more.
By the time he goes on patrol after school the next day he's trying to put things out of his mind. It is a pure fluke that he happens upon a particular purple haired boy climbing up a wall as if he's got suction cups on his hands.
He stops, leaning on the wall to watch, as Nagihiko descends back to the ground. Then there's that stop, that frozen stand. Kukai raises a hand and waves a little. "Hi." From off his shoulder, Daichi leans around and waaavewavewaves.
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
There's that moment where he's not sure exactly what he's supposed to do. He's only aware of all of this from his own perspective, and that alone is mired by self doubt and second guessing just about everything.
On top of everything else, if what happened wasn't a fluke, which he'd also entertained in those moments where his mind races a thousand kilometers per hour, which one of him would Kukai want to be seen in public with? After all, though the taboo has dwindled to a sheer venear over the years, for some, it's still very much there.
It's not until Temari zooms out from his hair to tackle Daichi in a hug that his limbs are able to move again.
"Hi." He shifts a bit, hands slipping in his back pocket for something to do with them, and his head tilts to the side. "How's patrol going?"
Ug, why this polite talk?
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai shrugs. "It's ok. Just walking around at the moment, looking to see what's going on. It's quiet for now."
Eru pops her head up from one pocket on Kukai's jacket and peeks at Temari. Daichi, for his part, hee hee hees and hugs Temari back, cheerful and happy.
Kukai grins. "Got over my cold from yesterday, too, which was good." He looks back down the street for a moment, still trying to be nonchalant, giving nothing away. "I tried to text you. I guess you didn't get it."
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
"Oh, good! That's...good." Quiet is always good when it comes to patrols, unless the one on patrol is itching for a fight. And also quiet means Kukai hasn't met up with any trouble, which is also a bonus.
Temari whispers to Daichi about the silliness of their humans before puffing her cheeks out in a scowl.
Nagihiko blinks in concern at the mention of a cold. "You were sick?" Before he could get an answer on that, though, his shoulders droop at the indifference Kukai suddenly seems to have toward him.
Of course, and next comes the 'listen, about the other day...' and they part as friends and--
Wait.
"You texted me?" He tries not to sound hopeful and surprised and fails miserably.
He sheepishly tucks a lip between his teeth and rubs his hand against the back of his neck. "I, ah, haven't been able to find my phone. Since...the other day." His cheeks warm slightly, and he's very focused on a discarded aluminium can.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Daichi nods and shrugs. "I can't do anything with him." Eru flitters up and leans past Daichi. "Why aren't they already running towards one another?" She slumps on one of Daichi's shoulders.
Kukai starts to respond about the fight the other night. He turns, seeing Nagihiko's shoulders droop as he talks and then lip bite. Hold please, now rebooting Kukai.
"Oh. Wait, you lost your phone?" Hope surges eternal in Kukai as he grins. "Well... Ok. That's fine. I mean, not fine! It's bad! But it's ok that you didn't reply." He lets out a breath he didn't know he'd been holding for two days. "I said hi and stuff. So.. hi, and stuff."
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
Temari quietly wails. "Because they're both stupid!" She slumps against Daichi's other shoulder.
Seeing Kukai's grin and his apparent relief at the reason why his text wasn't answered, Nagihiko gives one of his own. "If I'd gotten it, I would have responded. With hi! And stuff."
His own relieved grin turns a bit sly as he takes a long-legged step to join Kukai against the wall. And maybe, this time, the biting of the lip is on purpose. "So. What do you do on patrol when things are quiet?"
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Eru flitters around, hugging and supporting Temari, nodding intently. "They're so dumb!" Daichi looks at the two of them and sort of doesn't get it.
Kukai nods, then gets nervous as Nagihiko moves in close again, the purple haired boy's eyes matching that sly look - whoop, lip bite again. Good thing he just rebooted, this won't take as long.
Kukai stares at that lip for a moment, not even hearing the question, before shaking his head and blinking. "Quiet? Uh. I mean.. if I've gone around the entire route, I just look for something interesting to do."
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
Temari nods and pats a poor, confused Daichi. Sometimes he could be dumb, too.
Nagihiko sighs as he spins to leans back against the brick. "Interesting like street dancing? I've tried that a few times."
He gives Kukai a sidelong glance. "Did you go the whole route yet? Or did something interesting distract you?"
Is he fishing? Hell yeah, he is.
Is he being subtle about it?
Well, to most people probably not, but this was Kukai.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Daichi hees and cuddles in with Temari and Eru, hugging them both. Yeah, he's a little dumb sometimes too.
Kukai nods and leans back as well. "Yeah, whatever shows up and looks intriguing. And I've almost done the whole thing - I didn't see anything so far, so I don't mind letting the rest go. It'll be ok."
He looks over at Nagihiko, then grins. "Why? Did you see something interesting?"
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
Temari rolls her eyes with more than a little fondness. She ruffles Daichi's hair, but other than that, accepts and returns the hugging.
The flutter at Kukai saying he could let the rest of the patrol go is a touch annoying, but only because he feels like a schoolgirl with a crush.
Which, depending on the time of day, is sometimes not a bad description.
He shrugs his shoulders and leans his head back against the wall. "Oh, nothing much, really. A few birds are building nests in several of the parks. That coffee shop is pushing spring flavors. I got a free sample." He's inordinately pleased with the fact that he didn't say our coffee shop. That's just presumptuous.
He cracks his eyes open a little, sly smirk still in place. "Things didn't become interesting until after I rescued a dolly from an air conditioner, though."
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai nods, leaning on the wall besides Nagihiko, missing the flutter but hearing the words. "Oh, cool. There's been a lot of birdsong lately, yeah." He licks his lips, thinking about coffee. And the last time he had coffee.
Finally he looks up at Nagihiko and grins, blushing after a moment and reaching over to put his hand over the purple haired boy's. "You did a good thing there, Nagi."
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
Nagihiko nods. "They all seem to be trying to find a bird of their own."
His head is away from the wall now, tilted and turned as he watches Kukai. His brain doesn't short circuit as Kukai's does at the unconscious lip play, but it's still pleasant to watch.
His hand lifts at the touch, fingers spreading. It's an almost unconcious move as his head tilts a bit in confusion. "Checking the birds nests? I just did that because I was bo--"
He pauses mid word before he realizes what Kukai had been talking about. His laugh is easy even as he blushes. "Oh, well. She was sad, and I could do something about it. Plus, it was fun. Climbing buildings is a different kind of fun than climbing trees."
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai Souma smiles and then squeezes Nagihiko's hand, gentle and warm. "I need to learn how to climb like that. It'd be useful." He shrugs. "I mean most of the time I just hover up there."
His hand holds onto Nagihiko's for several long moments before he looks over at him. "I was worried when I didn't hear from you. I..." He shrugs. "I thought.. all sorts of stuff." For some reason he finds it hard to express his emotions.
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
He raises his eyebrows. "I could show you. And until you get it figured out I could help." Is that a bit of a devious gleam in his eye at the word 'help?'
Why yes. Yes it is.
The gleam is gone as he blinks in surprise at Kukai's admission. His cheeks warm and he's the first one to look away, studying the other boy's shoes.
"So did I. Even after I realized I'd misplaced my phone." His fingers curl and flex against Kukai's hand, the skin a layered rough and soft of someone who climbs trees in the evenings and moisturizes before bed. "I kept wondering was it a fluke, and if it wasn't..." He lets that trail off as he leans his head back against the wall. "And if it was and you just--" He shrugs. "I figured I'll be okay." You know. Eventually.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai Souma nods and then grins. "Well, I guess some help would be appreciated while I learned how to do it." He sees that devious gleam and isn't quite sure what to make of it.
He looks at Nagihiko, then squeezes his hand. "...Nagi-kun, I meant what I said about trying to make myself happy. But you should be trying to do the same thing. What makes you happiest?"
Kukai turns, facing Nagihiko straight on. "I don't think it was a fluke. I don't know what it is. I've never dealt with anything like it before. I think I've felt it before, but I haven't had the chance to explore it."
He moves in, and suddenly Nagihiko realizes that it seems that Kukai might be just a little taller than him. "I don't want you to just be ok. I don't want you to go from happy and focused and finally back with Temari to just 'ok'." His fingers link in with Nagihiko's, squeezing.
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
What makes him happiest? He looks away and to the side. "I don't know." His tone is the same as Kukai's when he'd shamefully admitted his lack of drive to pursue that one challenge.
There's a shift, and suddenly it's impossible not to look at Kukai.
Nagihiko does notice the sudden difference in height, especially this close up. And it's the same way Kukai may notice that Nagihiko's eyes are just as large as always, easily read if a person knows how. Eyelashes almost brush against cheeks as he looks down, just, the result of genetics as opposed to the false plastic many in his field must resort to.
"Can we--" He doesn't finish the thought, something cheesy about exploring it together. Instead, he's suddenly very close, fingertips brushing down a cheek as a tongue flickers out to taste lips.
"I missed you." It's a soft confession, nearly inaudible, and it's a silly one because he saw Kukai at school earlier. But it wasn't the same.
The desire to erase that confession from the air gives him the boldness to press his lips against Kukai's, to deepen the contact.
The subtle hint of an almost desperation is about the only lingering effect of the confession.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai watches those lashes look down, hears a short, cut off sentence, and then hears the words he really wanted to hear, the ones he was wanting to hear.
And then there are warm, soft lips against his, and Kukai feels the electricity rising again as he reaches up, pulling Nagihiko close and hugging him tight against his chest as he leans down, returning the kiss.
Eru lets out a happy cheer and grabs Temari and Daichi, spinning around with them. "They're kiss-ing, they're kiss-ing!"
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
There's a happy sound -- whether a groan or moan or something else doesn't matter -- as Kukai's face is framed in both hands. Nagihiko's never taken being the shorter one into account in previous day dreams, and the tilt of his head is foreign. He lifts onto the balls of his feet, a graceful glide that ensure no cricks in the neck.
Idly he recalls what causes Kukai's brain to short circuit and reboot, tries it briefly, then its back to kissing.
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai Souma hums and holds Nagihiko close in the kiss, feeling him leaning up towards him. He leans back just for a moment, catching his breath, just in time to see Nagi bite his lip again, that devious, wicked look in his eyes, as if he had capital-p Plans for Kukai.
This time, though, some fire awakens inside Kukai, and a few moments later Nagihiko finds his back up against the nearest wall as Kukai turns him with a gentle push and presses in for a kiss that practically makes Eru's halo pop off.
He shudders, pulling back for a moment, getting control of himself again, then blushes deeply, looking down at the ground. "Uh... sorry. Sorry." He moves as if to step back, if Nagihiko disentangles his hands from his shirt again.
- Nadeshiko Fujisaki has posed:
His meets the wall with a startled gasp, and for the next short while, all he's able to do is hold on and try to keep up.
There's a moment where he's more than a bit dazed after. The apology almost isn't heard and isn't, in his mind, necessary. (Or maybe it is for were, but he's not really thinking straight.)
"I don't know, I kind of liked that." He laughs a bit and takes pity on them both, loosening his grip on Kukai's shirt.
He tries to think for a moment. Focusing very much on not doing that again. It takes a moment longer than it normally would for his thoughts to get in order. It's a habit for a reason.
"Do you have plans?" Its his turn to blush a bright red. "Did you want to go somewhere?"
- Kukai Souma has posed:
Kukai blinks, looking over at Nagihiko, still wrapped up in worrying thoughts (overaggressive, painful, forceful) as he tries to parse what Nagihiko said. "...Uh." He stands and rubs the back of his head, then smiles and shakes his head. "No. I really don't. Do you wanna go get something to eat?"
To one side, Eru has fainted in Temari's arms. Daichi is fanning her with her halo.
