Cast of Characters: | Momo Akatsuki, Sachiko Hayakawa |
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
The lunch bell had rang and everyone ran out to find a spot to sit with their friends, family, or even both. There was hectic activity as everyone who hadn't brought their own lunch tried to get something remotely edible, and everyone who had tried to stake a claim on a table for themselves and the people they wanted to sit with.
Momo had claimed a table mostly for herself, a bento box in front of her filled with octoweenies, rice, eggrolls, and a big fat pink cupcake resting beside it that she'd unwrapped. She hadn't started to touch her food yet, sort of hoping today someone would sit with her. Maybe Reiko, but Reiko usually sat with some other girls since Mei left. So maybe someone else Momo knew would sit with her in the sun.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko is exhausted. Mentally, physically, and emotionally, the weekend was long and highly distressing for the poor girl, and even now in the midst of Tuesday, she still looks tired. But at least she's here today; yesterday she was so bad off that the teacher sent her to the nurse's office early, and she never did come back.
When the lunchbell rings, Sachiko is one of the last to the doorway. She retrieves a small, beat-up bento box covered in gears and little devices, then Heelys her way to the lunch area.
Once there, Sachiko resumes walking, though with how lidded her eyes are it's anyone's guess whether she's watching where she's walking.
Evidence points to 'no' though when she runs face first into a cheerleader and gets yelled a for it. The cheerleader's shrill irritation chases poor Sachiko all the way to the side of the lunch area, where the girl drops onto a seat and tries to hide from the cheerleader's vindictiveness.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Coincidentally, the table Sachiko had settled at was the table Momo was at. Noticing the presence of the friend she'd (hopefully) made the other day, Momo's eyes lit up brightly. "Sachiko-chan! Hey!". She was so excited that her friend had sat with her.
The cheerleader, being a cheerleader, had been about to come over and keep up the tirade until she saw who Sachiko had sat with. Specifically, she saw that it was Momo and her camera, a combination that wasn't exactly something someone wanting to stay popular should tussle with.
Momo didn't really notice that the cheerleader had ran Sachiko over, or even that she'd been about to come over to continue what she'd started. She just knew Sachiko was sitting with her. "I'm so glad you sat with me, Sachiko! Want a cupcake?!". Momo only had the one, but she was excited about offering it to Sachiko just as much as everything else.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko looks up in surprise as her name is called. She blinks once, then her eyes widen in startlement. "Momo-chan," she mumbles, almost as if she's confused by the girl's presence.
For a moment she just stares at Momo, as if she's completely not processing. Then a small smile forms on Sachiko's face. "I like cupcakes," she agrees quietly as she opens up her bento box. Inside is a large bed of rice on which hastily arranged and artistically devoid little hotdog rolls have been laid out. It's not the most nutritious meal, and it looks about as appetizing as a mud pie, but at least it's edible.
"Um. Do you want my cookie?" Sachiko asks, pulling a small chocolate chip cookie out of one of the side compartments of her bento box. Because you should trade when someone offers you a cupcake. The cookie, at least, looks edible!
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Blankly, Momo stares at Sachiko's bento box for a moment or two. "No thank you. You can have my cupcake as a gift of friendship!". Possibly also because that is the most depressing bento box Momo had ever seen in her entire life, and she'd seen some bento boxes.
Momo offered a warm smile, holding out the cupcake to Sachiko now. "Want some of my bento too? I've got a spare egg roll, they're really good.". She used the hand not holding up the cupcake to pick up one of the egg rolls with a pair of garishly pink and gaudily glittered chopsticks, also extending it out towards Sachiko.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko looks uncertain for a moment at Momo's polite refusal. Should she also politely refuse the cupcake and the offered egg roll? It would be polite to split their bentos evenly, but even Sachiko knows that what's in her box right now is about the least amount of effort one can make for a lunch.
She knows, because her big sister Anshi used to make her lunches, at the beginning of this school year, and Anshi always made sure that Sachiko's bento was the best in the class.
How else do you hide the horrible home-life?
Looking down at the tragic meal she has brought, Sachiko hesitates a while longer, then shudders quietly and reaches up to wipe at her eyes. Hiding behind a broad smile on her lips, Sachiko looks back up at Momo and says, "Sure! I bet it's delicious."
Sachiko stands up just enough to lean forward over the table, opening her mouth wide she says, "Ahhhhmp!" as she chomps down on the egg roll.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Not really registering that her friend was bothered by it, Momo beamed brightly as Sachiko chomped down on the egg-roll. She pulled her chopsticks from Sachiko's mouth and picked up the other egg-roll to pop it in her own mouth, chewing along with Sachiko with that doofy smile on her face.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
As expected, the egg roll is delicious, and Sachiko takes the time to savor it. Honest, it's not just because she's half falling asleep from energy drain, she actually enjoys the egg roll.
But eventually she has to swallow, and return to her own crummy bento. Picking out one of the sad little hot dogs, she pops it in her mouth, chews, swallows, then reaches for her milk. "So Momo-chan," she asks curiously, "what do you do after school? Do you like to dance? I got the Minion to let me start taking dance lessons last week. It's been a lot of fun so far."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Picking one of her own octoweenies from her bento and popping it in her mouth, Momo chews the thought over quite literally. After swallowing and picking up another to repeat the process, she takes up a strawberry milk and took a sip. She keeps thinking over Sachiko's question the entire time, like it's some great mystery to her what she does after school.
After doing this for quite a few moments, Momo smiles. "I like to take pictures. They're great ways to make memories you can always see!".
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"Stopping time," Sachiko repeats the idea from the other day. She considers Momo's camera for a moment, then resumes nibbling slowly and uninterestedly at her little hot dogs.
After a few moments, Sachiko looks up from her bento to her friend, forces that fake smile again, then asks, "Do you think you'd like to come watch me dance some time? My teacher says that we will put on a summer performance in a few months. It would be nice to have a friend there to watch me."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo's eyes grow wide and even seem to sparkle at the invitation. "I'd love to, Sachiko-chan! Can I take pictures when you dance?". The prospect delighted her immensely. She even bounced in her spot on the table's bench.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko's eyes widen at Momo's excitement, and she leans back a little. "Whaaaa," she murmurs, clearly not expecting that much bounciness at what--to her--seems such a simple request.
Since when does anyone (except Greta) take that much interest in her life!?
"I ... I would like pictures," she agrees quietly. "But I don't know if Sensei will allow them. I will ask," she promises quietly, then hesitates a moment. "You'll really come?" she asks, still a little awed at Momo's excitement.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo set her chopsticks aside and held her hand out towards Sachiko, pinkie extended. She didn't say anything right then, just looked intently at Sachiko with those big pink eyes, waiting to see what she'd do.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
The intensity of that look. The confidence in Momo's eyes. All of it reminds Sachiko of someone else; someone she hasn't seen in more than a month, now.
Tears threaten to well in the exhausted first-grader's eyes, as she leans forward to lock her own pinkie with Momo's. She doesn't say anything. If she did, she'd probably start to cry!
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo speaks for them both then, as her pinkie entwines with Sachiko's own. "It's a promise then.". Her eyes burned bright, almost hot pink with the fire of her promise in her heart.
Perhaps too happy about it though. Her feet started to kick in excitement under the table.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Momo's excitement is infectuous, and Sachiko smiles brightly along with her friend--and this time it's a genuine smile. She doesn't kick her feet because she's still too exhausted, and besides they're both too short for pinkie swears across the table without one of them standing up, and today that is her job.
"I'm really glad," Sachiko says, then her eyes widen and she hops up onto her seat, then onto the table, then walks across and drops down onto the bench beside Momo and gives the girl a big, tight hug. "You're a good friend, Momo-chan. You make Sachiko happy."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo blinked for a moment at Sachiko walking across the table, but only for a moment. She lifted her arms and wrapped them tightly around her friend. "Are we best-friends, Sachiko? Best friends forever?". Momo managed to make the question be filled with immense amounts of emotion, and her voice still quivered with it.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Best friends!? Well, that's really not a high bar when you had to leave all your other friends behind. Consistently, Momo has been Sachiko's only friend, since Anshi vanished.
So, "Of course we're best friends, Momo-chan," Sachiko says, as if the idea of it being any other way is foreign to her. "You're the best friend I've ever had. And I just know when An-chi gets back, she'll love to meet you."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo hugged her best-friend ever so tightly, a bright smile on her face. She'd never let anything happen to her best-friend, never ever. She figured she should probably say so. "I'll never let anything happen to you, Sachiko. If I can stop it, I will!".
Sachiko's words about someone coming back brought something forward to her mind, and the smile dimmed just a little. "I'm sure when Mei-neesan gets back, she'll love to meet you too.". The thought pushed the impending worry back in her head and the brightness of her smile came back in full force.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"You have a big sister, too?" Sachiko asks, eyes widening in surprise. "I didn't know," she admits as she looks at Momo curiously. "Mine is An-chi. She got such good grades she got to go to the Infinity school for a while. But then she became a magical girl," she explains, "and she had to defend a lot of people from that big big storm a few months ago. I ahven't seen her since, but Greta-chan, An-chi's best friend, says she's still out there fighting monsters so I have to be brave and wait. I just ... I don't know. The Minions say that she ran out of time. So I don't know who to believe anymore."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo pulled back from the hug, but kept her arms extended to grasp Sachiko's shoulder, her eyes focused on just her. "My sister, Mei-neesan, had to go find mamma, but she'll definitely be back. Her and mamma. Some family is looking after me, and my sister's best-friend, Reiko-sempai, looks after me sometimes too. Believe she'll come back, okay, Sachiko? Hope is powerful!".
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Hope. It's like fresh water in the ocean, or oxygen in space. Ephemeral, ellusive, and yet oh so vital. It's an emotion Sachiko has been struggling with for weeks, and struggles with still. And here at lunch, the little girl in the pink is overflowing with it. Sachiko begins to cry, right there with Momo holding her shoulders. She leans forward, practically collapsing on Momo as the tears flow down her cheeks for the millionth time since Anshi's disappearance.
Hope is powerful, and Sachiko doesn't have the strength to hold onto that much power alone, right now. They're good tears. Honest. She's just a little overwhelmed and exhausted from being vampie-snax.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo doesn't really seem to hesitate. She's seven, but that can't stop her from having really grown-up moments. She adjusts herself and tightly wraps her arms around Sachiko, holding her tightly. "It'll be alright. We'll wait for our sisters together.".
It's hard to not cry when someone else is crying with you, especially someone you care about and even more so when you're both crying about someone else you care about. Tears start to run in small rivulets down her cheeks, blurring the intensity of her pink eyes. She holds Sachiko all the tighter as she cries with her, not letting go at all.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko sniffles and cries along with her friend, tears feeding tears, and yet the hug is so very useful to help them both recover. Unfortunately for both girls, they've spent so much time talking and crying and being 'serious' that lunch is already over. When the bell rings, Sachiko leans away and wipes her eyes. "Oh Momo-chan," she mumbles. "I'm sorry, I made you miss your lunch. I'm so sorry. But I'll make it up to you," she promises. "I'll make it up to you. Tomorrow i'll try and bring something special. But before we go to class, should we share that cupcake?"
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo smiled as tears stopped flowing down her face like a simple turning of a valve. She tilted her head a little at the mention of mentioning her lunch. "I got to eat my egg roll and some weenies, it's fine! But I'd like something special from you... And sure! Let's share!".
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko wipes at her eyes several times to clear the tears, then hugs Momo once again. "Let's share," she agrees, reaching for Momo's cupcake. She splits the thing in half, then holds up one half in her fingers for Momo, offering it to the girl. "Say ahhhh," she says quietly.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo hugs Sachiko back when she goes to hug her, and at her bequest opens her mouth wide. "Aaaahhhh.". She holds it open, staring at Sachiko.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Sachiko giggles at Momo and pushes the cupcake gently into the other girls' mouth, then licks her fingers clean. Then she turns to start putting away her own lunch, knowing that they're going to have to be back in class any moment. She'll eat her half of the cupcake later. Maybe.
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Momo chews on the piece of the cupcake Sachiko had pushed into her mouth, swallowing after a moment. "Aren't you going to eat your half, Sachiko?", she asks as she starts to busy herself with tucking her chopsticks into her bento box, one that actually looked like a pink camera somehow.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"Mmm, I will," Sachiko says quietly as she finishes getting her bento put away. She picks it up, then, and shoves it in her mouth, chewing hastily. "Ohhh so good," she quietly says after she swallows. "Thank you, Momo-chan," she says, then stands up and offers the other girl her hand. "Come on, we're gonna be late if we don't hurry."
- Momo Akatsuki has posed:
Giggling at the way Sachiko had eaten her cupcake, Momo grabbed her own bento box and clutched at the offered hand with the other. She gave a firm nod, certain they'd arrive on time together.
