Another morning at the Midori-ya! It's right at the crush of students seeking breakfast and caffeine fixes. And today? One rather well dressed magical girl. Kasagami White slips through the door, gold-and-silver cane tapping about. She's a familiar figure by now, and one of the staff is quick to offer an arm.
"Oh? Takeshi-kun, is that you?" She lightly elbows the man with a grin.
"Any luck with Aki-chan? You two married yet?" The poor employee is sent off to acquire her coffee and scones with a deep red blush. Hannah just laughs warmly.
"Oh man, like some kind of anime with those two. Heeh heh heh heh." She mutters, before pulling out a laptop. The back of it is emblazened with her company's logo: WPS in stylized letters. All blacks and greys. A lanyard to her ear, one coffee, and she's chomping on scones as she works.
"Budget budget budget! I swear, who does that guy think he is!? He trying to control me or something!? Dad is one-thousand percent better than that jerk! /HE/ would understand the books. Sheesh. ....I wonder if I can hire him. Is that nepotism?" She mumbles to herself. All in all, it's a little hard to miss her.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
The Midori-ya cafe is a pretty well known and loved place. But to the second graders of Infinity University it is a brand new discovery! Throughout the morning there has been kids running in and out buying treats before running off to school, all wearing the same black and white uniforms with their adorable hats.
Seemly just one amid the trickling stream is Nagisa Momoe. Yesterday one of her classmates had been raving about the bakery and she just couldn't help but check it out.
She slips in and weaves her way through the crowd towards the counter, staring at all the glorious baked treats. In truth she's here on a mission; the brownies are supposed to be simply divine, and as a member of the Cooking Club she wants to see if she can try them and replicate the recipe. That's the plan.
However, something catches her eye.
She stumbles back away almost in disbelief. Is that....
A cream cheese Danish?!
Soon her face is all but pressed against the glass, the small girl staring for nearly a minute. But... but wait! She's here on a mission!
Titanic struggles occur within the girl, the forces of good and evil, right and wrong- right up until it's her time to order.
"One chocolate fudge brownie, please." she orders, half a second later nearly shouting, "And a cream cheese Danish!!"
A few moments later she's sitting down at a small table with a look of glee in her eyes. So what if she spent tomorrow's treat money too?! Today will be worth it!
Slowly devouring her sticky, cheesy treat she starts looking around the Cafe, soon her attention falls upon Miss White, the woman being so gregarious in talking with the people around her as well as her fancy white suit. That catches her attention, but what keeps it is her laptop- or rather the company logo on the back of it. It's hard to miss- the seat she has at her table has her looking straight at it.
It nags at the back of her mind as she ever so slowly and delicately consumes her treat, until all of a sudden she recognizes it. She pulls out a card from her pocket and- yes! It's that same logo!
The way her head keeps bobbling as she looks between Homura Akemi's business card and the logo on the back of the computer is probably a little distracting.
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
So many people! Despite her complaints, Miss White all but glows in the midst of so much life and cute kids. Particularly the one making a ruckus about danishes!
She laughs lightly, brought out nicely of her funk from earlier.
"...Kids! Jeez, I wish people never grew up!"
Then she's down to work. The stare is utterly unnoticed by her, of course, lurking in her 'civilian' identity of Kasagami White. Good thing a certain magical girl Device User isn't around right now!
But fate conspires against Miss White. She's down on coffee, and stands up, prepared to recycle like a good environmentally conscious company woman. Unfortunately, one of Nagisa's compatriots left a chair out just enough that her cane doesn't touch it, and yet, her sandaled feet get caught up suddenly. Without her Device active, her reflexes are only human.
There's a tiny little girlish shriek of surprise, and then there's a highschool-aged girl in a suit tripping and tumbling and backpedaling towards Nagisa's table in an attempt to regain her footing. Most people scatter. The employee is making one heck of an effort to catch poor White-san, but he is simply too far even at running speed. It's all up to Nagisa to catch or get the heck out of dodge.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
The double taking comes to an end as the well dressed woman stands up, hastily stuffed back into Nagisa's skirt pocket. She closes her eyes and tries to think on what she should do, her morning just having gotten significantly more complicated, though her thoughtful face soon turns to one of delighted bliss as she takes another bight of her nearly finished doughnut.
Suddenly, a ruckus! She opens her eyes and nearly jumps out of her skin when she sees the tall figure stumbling in her direction. She drops her Danish onto the table and gets up, waving her arms in front of herself and moving towards Miss White, trying to catch her and keep her from falling.
It's not entirely altruistic- her treats are in danger!
Unfortunately the result is a simple physics problem. Miss White is a tall high schooler. Nagisa is a skinny second grader shorter than most girls a grade lower than she is.
She tries! But gets absolutely clobbered.
In fact if anything the impact against Miss White's hips and stomach might make it even harder to recover and the two go down in a heap.
Nagisa doesn't even make a decent landing pad, so small is she!
Despite this, however, it is Mission Accomplished, because she at least deflected the fall towards the floor and away from the table, where still sits a pristine brownie and a mostly eaten Danish.
The small girl is laid out like she's been smashed by a prize fighter, though in reality she's just dizzy from the tumble rather than hurt.
Too dizzy to notice a certain business card hadn't been put away well enough, and is now laying on the floor beside her.
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
Miss White's day is not starting off well. There's an impact, she bowls over, and down to the floor goes both pair of magical girls. Ow. Even she is dazed, Nagisa and Hannah fated to lay tangled for a moment or two. Takeshi comes up just as Hannah rolls off of the girl. Her hand finds something. A...business card? The feel of it is familiar, and her Device shoots a small line of magic. Information floods Miss White's brain as it's read to her.
It's Akemi-san's. Who /is/ that warm thing she just crash landed into? Is she in the magic world? Or was Homura going for a civilian contract?
Not likely, but possible. Her head hurts. And she realizes she just hurt a grade schooler.
"Ahhh! Oh no! Hey! HEY! You okay kid!? Speak to me! Come one, come on!" Hands are on Nagisa's face, lightly swatting her cheeks to wake her up.
"Takeshi! Warm, wet towel, glass of water! She bleeding or anything? Get a medkit!" Comes Hannah, legitimately worried.
"Hang in there kiddo! I am /sorry/!" It's a rare moment of panic, but never let it be said Miss White is yet completely heartless.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
Nagisa is a little too preoccupied with being dizzy and having smacked into the floor to notice the beam of magic scanning the card. It isn't until she hands start clapping into her cheeks that she starts to recover, flinching first, then jerking a little before opening her eyes. "Urrrrrgh..."
Then she hears 'medkit' and she shakes her head quickly, "No no no, I'm fine! I don't need a medkit or anything like that!" The nice smooth floors of the cafe mean that after a check she is not, in fact, bleeding.
Were Miss White's reactions not so panicked it might actually be fun to play at recovering slowly, but Nagisa is aware enough of what's involved in actual emergencies that she wants no part of playing hurt!
Speaking of emergencies- her head turns around quickly from side to side and she looks towards her table... still standing!
Calming down a bit herself she sighs, scooting back a little so she can sit up, not standing in case they're going to be super serious about making sure she didn't hit her head too hard. "It's okay, I'm perfectly alright, honest. I don't need a towel or a medkit... though a glass of water might be nice."
After that she just sits there for a moment. Well, this is awkward. Unsure what to do she resorts to politeness.
"I'm just glad it looks like you're okay too- ah... I don't know your name. I'm Nagisa Momoe, it's," pause," nice to meet you." That sounds a little odd, considering what just happened, but it's polite!
She starts to notice all the attention the ruckus has gotten, looking down and blushing a bit at all the stares.
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
Nagisa lives! And even sits up on her own power! Not bleeding too!
Takeshi is one heck of an employee, and despite the girl's protests, there's a medkit standing by just in case as well as a glass of water handed over. He looks to Miss White, but by the look on her face, instantly goes to check on the younger girl. He doesn't want to try that fight right now.
Miss White and Takeshi both seem serious about it indeed, checking the girl's head for a bump or bruise. Only when they're sure she's ok do they relent. Like a gentleman, both girls get hands up. White squeezes the cafe-employee's shoulder in thanks. He's off to get coffee for the slightly stunned high schooler. She slides into Nagisa's table, taking a seat opposite of where she was originally.
"Thank god. 'Crush a grade schooler' is not on my to-do list today! Seriously, sorry about that." She apologizes again.
Right, people staring. Hannah doesn't bother getting up, she's a little woozy herself.
"Now, I realize I am a vision of youth and beauty fit to grace greek architecture, but how long are you guys going to keep staring? I can feel those peep-holes boring into my skull." She adds to the staring crowds, sharp and clear and commanding. It gets them to quit it very fast. Miss White and Hannah Sharpe both have presence, if nothing else.
Then the girl introduces herself. There's a slight pause to Miss White. Nagisa. The girl from the park. The voice and recognition hits her. She can't be surprised. But hopefully 'dazed' covers any awkwardness or missed beats.
A hand is offered in her general direction.
"What a polite girl you are! The pleasure is entirely mine! Kasagami White, corporate flunkie and Director of Special Interests and Acquisitions Department of WitchHunter Professional Services. How about I cover your breakfast for bowling yo over like that? Sound fair?" Her shake, if taken, is firm and strong.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
As annoying as it is to be given a checkup when she honest to goodness feels just fine, Nagisa just sits there and accepts it, taking a drink of the water she's given. They should find that she has a perfect bill of health! Not even any bumps on her head. Which... actually might be odd, but isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility.
She takes the hand up offered to her, dusting off her uniform carefully before getting back into her seat at the table. Right now she doesn't go immediately to finish her treat either, instead drinking a bit more water.
She is relieved when sharp, commanding words get the people to stop looking at her so intently, and her little sigh of relief is easily heard. "Thank you, and you don't have to apologize for earlier, it was an accident."
Then she gets quite the confused expression on her face as a hand is extended out towards her. Her head tilts. Smiling at the compliment she also has to pause upon hearing the name. Kasagami White. Miss White. Is that her? It's likely, but she can't really be sure.
And then there's still that vexing hand! What ever could the woman want from her, thinks the girl with very little exposure to western customs and practices. But oh, she's offering to buy her breakfast! "I ate at home, but you could pay for my snacks if you really felt like you had to make it up to me."
That's when she reaches into her pocket and stuffs a little white paper receipt for her brownie and doughnut into Miss White's hand, oblivious to her original intent.
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
A receipt! Miss White looks a little confused at first, feels the paper, then gets the connection. She laughs a bit. /Right/, Japan. Old habits die hard.
"That will do, Nagisa-san! Yup. Even if it is an accident, it is very important to apologize properly when you hurt someone when you do not mean to. Gotta keep your debts nice and clean. Otherwise..." She leeeans in over the table. Her hands wave 'mysteriously'.
"Karmic aftershock! Real Buddha-level payback!"
Then she's leaning back, not bothering to explain to the polite little girl. One card later, and she's smiling at Nagisa again. Coffee sip.
"So do you go to school around here? Sound pretty young. Middle School? Maybe younger than that?" She asks casually. The employee from earlier comes back with more food. Seems she's well known around the cafe. If Nagisa got a look at the tip portion of the receipt, she'd likely realize why.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
Nagisa smiles brightly, actually letting her formalities slip a little on purpose in the presence of the WPS employee. "Thank you, then! Karmic aftershock does sound very serious. I'd hate to be the cause for it just for refusing to let you buy me a snack."
She takes another drink of her water, closing her eyes to think while she buys some time, only to pick up what remains of her Danish and take a bite of it.
This may not have been the wisest choice however because as soon as she gets a taste of the cream cheese, sugary goodness her mind wanders off, a happy and far away expression showing on her face.
She's pulled from her reverie by the sound of Hannah's voice, setting down her treat and then dabbing at her mouth with a napkin. "Infinity University, second grade elementary." she replies. Technically if she was being very polite she should have offered that along with her name, but right now she's not wanting to give away an extraordinary amount of information. She trusts Homura to some degree, but a stranger and one she has reason to potentially be in conflict with not so much.
That lack of complete might show, however, as Nagisa is currently unaware the business card from Homura is still laying on the floor and had been recognized, "You said WitchHunter Professional Services, though? That's a peculiar name for a corporation; what kind of business is it?" She asks with all the curiosity a child should have in her voice.
It's not a hard thing to do- she actually is very curious!
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
She can't see it, but as Nagisa bites into that pastry, Hannah catches the tiniest of sounds. It doesn't take much to imagine the girl's happy face, and Miss White is smiling gently. This girl is /adorable/! Just being around her seems to set her heart a little at ease.
"Such a tragic fate, not being able to supply the most adorable landing pad her sweets!" Teases the girl, before just laughing.
"Infinity, huh? I, ah, used to go there. Before I graduated and got this job." Lies, of course. She's still in school.
She keeps the focus on Nagisa. "You must be pretty smart! ...I barely got in." She admits, blushing a bit here.
And then the curious girl is being curious, and asking about what she does. Miss White goes silent, crosses a leg, and /thinks/. How to put it? She can't exactly spill the magic beans...or a lot of the mundane ones either. And how to put it to a kid and not frighten her?
"Well, the easiest way to put it, is that we protect people. Businessmen, politicians, foreign delegates, people like that who need people to keep them safe hire us so that if any bad guys go after them, they will make it out okay. Kind of like the police, only without a badge, and we do not arrest people. Think of us as knights for hire." She grins at that.
"But nothing for you to worry too much about. No bad guys would come after someone as nice and cute as you, Nagisa-san!"
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
The most adorable landing pad? A small blush comes from that, along with a stifled giggle that Hannah could probably pick up as she considers calling Miss White 'Helicopter-san'.
"You're an alumni? Then you must be far smarter than I for having already graduated from such a prestigious academy," Nagisa replies, layering compliments and modesty. "I had the best tutoring possible in my parents, so I was able to pass my entrance tests without difficulty," she adds, putting most of the praise on their shoulders without tearing herself down in the process.
She watches Miss White carefully as she thinks on how to answer the question, and pays very close attention to how it's answered. What she's told is entirely reasonable, though obviously isn't the whole picture. Not that that's what she expected, but a little piece of the magical side of things would have helped.
She's all ready to reply how she thinks it's good someone is around to look out for people like that, when Miss White continues and comments about bad people not being willing to come after her.
It's intended to be disarming and light, pretty obviously intended to be aimed at a normal little girl- but Nagisa Momoe is a magical little girl.
A quick flashback to only a few days ago where a high level partner attacked a cute pink haired girl minding her own business.
"Ahh, White-san, you're right. Not even the very worst bad guy would stoop so low to attack a helpless schoolgirl!"
So cheerful!
So oddly scathing.
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
Perhaps not speaking the nickname out loud is a good thing. No one should have to endure Miss White's Arnold impression!
The girl beams a bit!
"Smart? Please! The key to success is hard work, kiddo. Smarts help, but if you work hard and never give up, you can do almost anything!" Encouraging words from the woman!
"And all that work and tutoring got you in. See? Keep that attitude up and you will go far, Nagisa-san!"
The there's that scathing reply. It actually catches her off guard a bit. She seems confused. For some reason, the imagine of her partner flashes through her mind.
Nah. Couldn't be!
She leans in, and whispers.
"...A pretty strange tone there, kiddo. You in trouble, or something? We specialize in making trouble go away." Adds Miss White, voice suddenly serious, and more than a little concerned.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
"Working hard and practice are very important, I agree. I need to work very hard in order to get better..." It's not her schoolwork she's thinking about when she says that either. Detecting the serious tone in her own voice she intentionally perks herself up and picks up her brownie.
"I'm actually here on business! I heard these were the best, and learning the secrets to making the best treats is important for Cooking Club." She looks over the brownie and then ponders aloud, "Though maybe we should start making meals rather than snacks for a little while after this."
Then she's left trapped by her own off the cuff remark. She only wanted to put a /tiny/ bit of venom in her tone, but either Miss White is incredibly good at catching subtlety or the child isn't used to subtle rebukes.
Probably both.
"Oh! Umm, ahh..." she looks around a little, suddenly nervous. "I just... know very well how bad things can happen to good people that don't deserve it. My friends brother caught that coma sickness when it was going around, and a lot of students going to my school have been in the Hospital recently."
She's covering, and it could very well be noticed, but she's a lot better at hiding what she really means by using other aspects of the truth.
Somewhere in the world, Kyubey is going :3
- Hannah Sharpe has posed:
Nagisa sure is acting oddly! But Miss White smiles as she moves on to her 'mission' here!
"Oh, are you now? Hmmmm, maybe I should have my old school's Cooking Club cater at one of my meetings some day. Would you like that?" Smile!
"You guys get some experience and the club gets paid, we get to eat delicious food after going through boring financial meetings!" Plus having adorable school girls will surely melt even the heart of the board of directors.
Her head tilts as she takes in Nagisa's response. There's a small, dissapproving frown. She's clearly suspicious, a little disbelieving. Sigh.
"Well, either way, it is not really my business. But if you ever /do/ find yourself in trouble, call me, okay?"
Cue a business card, just like Homura's! It's slid over to Nagisa. Her phone, email, and even the address of the WPS building. Convenient!
"Sorry to hear about that, though. A...friend of mine got caught up in that too. Never been so scared in my life! But she's okay now. Hope they are recovered, your friend's brother."
Riiiing. Riiiiiing!
Miss White takes out her phone. It's her magical business one. She sighs.
"And I was having a good time, too. Ok, Nagisa-san? Sorry to do this, but I need to bail. Work calls. Here." She drops a stack of yen on the table.
"Get you and your friends something to eat at the Cooking Club, okay? Nice meeting you!" Then she rushes over, grabs her stuff, and is out the door, fumbling just a bit in her rush.
- Nagisa Momoe has posed:
Nagisa has to slow down a little bit. She hasn't been thinking her answers out as well as she should have, and now Miss White is suspicious of her. Considering all she's learned in the last few weeks, that's not good! Right now she'd really rather the woman thinking she has nothing to do with either danger or magic, but somewhere along the line she messed that up.
She accepts the business card politely with both hands and looks it over. This is the most astonishing thing to her about whatever she's doing; why would she advertise her location if she's making enemies out of Puella Magi? She seems way too intelligent for something like that. Every person has their weaknesses, but this seems like an odd one if that's what it is. It could be a trick, or a trap... but even if she has suspicions why would she want to trap Nagisa?
hough it's not like there's not precedent within her organization.
More confusing still is the offer to have her club cater a business meeting- it's an amazing opportunity if sincere, but also potentially hazardous. "I'll... I'll talk about it with them. We've done bake sales plenty of times, but never anything professional." she responds, with not quite the excitement and vigor that might be expected.
She should have just stuck with formal and polite!
Then Miss White has to go, and Nagisa stands too, bowing to her as she prepares to leave, "It was nice meeting you as well, White-san. Ahh!" That last part comes when she sees the money dumped on the table, "You really don't have to do-" but she's already gone. "that."
The girl just watches her go with a confused expression on her face. How can someone so seemingly friendly and nice be involved in a company doing such terrible things?
