The Ami Gossips Toniiiiight~!
Date of Scene: 14 December 2016
Location: Tsukino Residence
Synopsis: In the jungle, the mighty jungle, Ami gets an unexpected vidcall from one of her best friends. Breakups are hard! Future Disney Movie Dates are made, and Takashi is grossly adorable.
Cast of Characters: Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
One of the many benefits of having a father in the Know of one's Extracurricular Activities is that when certain...dates come up, it's easier to tell them why one is suddenly a moping snail of bundled up blankets.

It also has the benefit of said father feeling guilty for not being able to do anything about the year-ago trauma and calling one off from school for the next few days.

However, yes, while this is a bog reason for why Usagi is a burrito of star-and-moon blanket and messy hair, it's not the reason she hasn't eaten much today. (She didn't even go back for seconds!)

She'd call Makoto, but she is in school. Same for Naru. Mamoru and Kunzite are probably eating yummy eclairs.

If this were a year ago, she would probably be on Rei's doorstep (templestep?) right now wanting to know why. But it didn't happen last year, and experience has taught Usagi that if she pushes too hard, it's not good. (Though she doubts there's a danger to Rei's sanity like there was with Endymion. Eh, potato tomato.)

So here she is, all burritod up and intent on waiting until Ami's nightly call. But...

Ohhhh, Ami's not in school! And Usagi's waited long enough!

Taking a deep breath, she pulls up the program on her new laptop.

(Nothing too fancy. Early gift from her parents with the proviso it doesn't leave her room and that it's used mostly for homework. Well, that was her mother's. Papa said she could bring it directly to Mamoru's if she wanted, but no stops along the way. It's like they thought she was clumsy or something, sheesh.)

A deep, steadying breath as she pulls up the contacts.

She's calm and collected as she clicks on Ami's name.

And she's fine for the first ring or two.

But sometime between there and Ami picking up, Usagi's a bawling mess.

"Rei broke up with me and I killed Mamo-chan a year ago!"

(Technically a year ago tomorrow, but eh.)
Ami Mizuno has posed:
It's evening, not quite midnight, in the muggy warmth of the Peruvian Amazon. The forest never quiets, but this time of night is when Ami generally reserves for her studying. It's too early to call her friends, but too dark to really get much exploration done.

Miraculously--at least by Makoto's standards--Takashi has actually been good at his word of giving Ami plenty of space to do her studying. Holed up in the back of the plane by herself, Ami is busy at a small table, poring over her notes in preparation for giving herself another practice exam, when the Mercury computer begins gently vibrating the earing she wears that's attached to it.

Ami startles at it, then looks confusedly out the window of the plane towards where Takashi is busy fooling with the shadows. She shudders, just a little, at the dark energy at play, then reaches down into her bookbag and pulls out the slim cyan tablet that she's had for millenia.

Pulling out a stand, she places it down on the table, then puts on a curious expression as she answers. What greets Usagi is a dirty-looking Ami, still a little sweaty from the high humidity and day spent in the woods, in a tan overshirt tied sleeves around her neck, over a white tanktop.

"Usagi-chan?" Ami asks, confusedly. "Shouldn't you be in school? Is everything okay?"
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi blinks a bit at the sight of Ami. Dirty, sweaty. "You look like Indiana Jones!"

Not quite, but that's the mental image she has. Ami as Jones, Takashi as Damsel of the Movie, swinging from vines to escape rolling bounders.

And if Takashi occasionally screams like said damsels in her imagination, well. Usagi's not always nice, despite what she'll have you believe!

But now she's not thinking about those things. She sniffles and nods and wipes her nose in her blankets. "Yeah. But Papa says I should stay home for a few days. He remembers what I was like last year."

She sniffles some more, all wibbly lips.
Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami blushes at Usagi's description, clearly flattered. "I feel more like I haven't showered in a week, even though I took one just last night. I usually try to take it before I call you, so I'm not so ..." she looks down at herself. "Gross."

A faint shrug of uncertainty, then she leans forward just a little to lean on her elbows, studying Usagi through the screen. "Last year you were a complete mess who didn't really even know if you were a Milleniums-old Princess, a teenaged schoolgirl, or a defender of the Moon. Are you reliving the experience?"
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi snorts and waves her hand. "You're in the jungle, Ami-chan. You're supposed to be gross."

Then she shrugs and fiddles with the seam of her blanket. "I dunno, maybe? There's bad dreams, but that's not new. I keep wanting to call Mamo-chan to make sure he's still him. But he's busy with his own brain today and I don't wanna bug him too much."

After all, Usagi only believed she killed the love of her life. Mamoru's experiences were a bit more...not good.

And then suddenly! She's crying again.

"But at least I'm distracted by wondering why REI BROKE UP WITH ME!"
Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Oh, Usagi-chan," Ami murmurs sympathy of the bad dreams, but her friend continues and takes the bluenette entirely by surprise. Her bawling wail about Rei draws a blink out of Ami, who leans back a little and furrows her brow in confusion. "What?!" she asks. "I mean, she's been withdrawing a lot, recently. Are you ..." she trails off, then frowns a little. "I wish I could be there right now to give you a big hug and a disney movie night. Why did she break up with you!?" Ami asks confusedly. "Is she okay? Is she being influenced by someone or something? Or ... I mean ... what happened?!" She doesn't notice the shadow enter the room as Takashi comes to investigate the yelling.
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi shrugs, a helpless gaping bunnyfish. "I-I don't know! Just, I went there yesterday and she just...I mean, nothing felt bad. Just..." She sniffles and rubs her face with her hand. Her voice is small. "I wish you were here, too."

And then she's quick to reassure her friend. "But it's okay you're not! Really! You're where you gotta be! It's okay! Kunzite made me cocoa!"

She shrugs again. "I don't know what happened."
Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami offers a fond smile for Usagi as she tries to make this not the bluenette's responsibility. "Cocoa's good," she agrees quietly. "I'm glad you have friends around to help. You should see Mamor--eek!"

Ami cuts off with a faint squeal as Takashi enters the frame with his head on her shoulder. "You smell nice," he says, and Ami's face turns brilliantly scarlet. "Hello, Tsukino-san," he greets her, unashamed to be so familiar with Ami in front of the camera.

Ami shrugs her shoulder out from under him, still blushing furiously. "Shoo, go away," she says. "I'm talking to my friend!"

"Geeze, I was just saying hi," Takashi says, faintly irritated as he stomps off.

Ami's blush doesn't dissipate as she looks back to Usagi. "Sorryyyyy," she whines a little.
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
At this, Usagi nods! "Oh yes! And I saw him a bit yesterday, after. Today, he and Kunzite are, um, out, um. Looking. For um. Trouble. Signs of."

And suddenly she's glad she was discrete! She eeks along with Ami, blushes on her behalf as well, but hides her sudden grin in her covers.

It's still there in her eyes, though!

"Hi, Agera-san."

Yes, it's cute and adorable but she's still annoyed at him!

She snorts and giggles and whispers. "Well, you have the mace if he gets too uppity."
Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Usagi-chan!!" Ami replies, a harsh and loud whisper. She glances after Takashi, scandalized, to see if he's seen. "Geeze, he's not that bad. He just ... sometimes puts his head on my shoulder." Or in her lap. "Ugh, there aren't even separate bedrooms so I've been huddling my sleeping bag in the other side of the room from him. Sleeping on a plane is ... weird."

Here, she sighs and glances back to Usagi, then blushes all over again. "Oh my gosh, stop grinning, Usagi-chan," she says, scandalized by her friend's obvious interest in the relationship. "What are Mamoru and Kunzite looking for?"
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi turns her nose up just a little. "What sort of friend would I be if I didn't send you off without precautions?"

And then, of course, there's a 'mweeheehee' and a 'huehuehue.'

And then it's her turn to be all blushing!

She leans forward and looks around to make sure she can't be overheard. "Ami-chan, they aren't really looking for things! They're...you know." She nods her head along and whispers loudly. "On a date!"
Ami Mizuno has posed:
Usagi's trollish laughter is a good sign, when she started the conversation in tears. If nothing else, Takashi's brief display of affection may have had just the right effect on her friend. She'll have to begrudgingly thank him, later ... if he doesn't make it worse, again.

But then Usagi's blushing, and that's way out of character for the girl, except in a rare few circumstances. Ami has a brief moment of feeling like a deer staring into the headlights before Usagi spills the juicy gossip.

And then she's blushing all the more. "O--oh!" she says, then covers her face with both hands. "Oh, geeze, I should have .. I didn't need to ... oh geeze. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pried."

Wait they're actually dating, and not just really close?! Somewhere in the back of Ami's mind she's pretty sure she already knew that, but sometimes the line between reality and her written fantasies gets a little blurry with details that aren't important.

"W-well I hope they have fun," Ami says, clearly still flustered. "But Mamoru better take you on a date, soon! You deserve it."
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi gasps! Ami's reaction is, well, a touch more than if Ami had known known. "I didn't say anything and you don't know anything! They're keepin' it all secret because...people are old ways and stupid?" She scratches her head, not quite sure that was exactly the reason.

But then she's nodding. "Oh yes! Mamo-chan's gonna come over tomorrow. Or something. But I think today is more his bad day, and I think Kunzite's the best person he can be with right now for it."
Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami's smile grows just a little more genuine, less scandalized, and she sighs and leans forward with her chin in her hands. "Good," she says quietly, as she looks at her friend. For a moment there's silence, then she admits, "I miss you guys so much."
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi leans closer to the screen, eyes wide. "We miss you, too! When you get home, I'm gonna hug you for a month!"

She sighs a bit, leaning over so she's resting her head on her arms, face turned sideways. "And I'll take you up on the Disney Night then?"
Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Double disney night," Ami promises Usagi, then sighs once more. "I really need to get back to studying. But I'm going to call Mako-chan tonight, at the usual time, okay?"
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi beams for a moment before she looks sad again. "Okay. Study hard and all that stuff you'll do anyway! But also take some Ami time!"

She sighs. "And I'll be fine. I'm gonna mope for a bit, but I'll be fine, okay? So you don't gotta worry. I just wanted to talk to you."
Ami Mizuno has posed:
"I'm going to worry anyways," Ami informs Usagi succinctly. "But I know you've got good people near you to keep you company and make you smile. If you need me again, call, okay? I'll always respond as quickly as I can." She kisses her finger then touches it to the screen. "See you tomorrow."
Usagi Tsukino has posed:
The smile is small but genuine and full of affection. "I know you will." She repeats the finger kiss. "And same goes. If I don't answer, I'm probably asleep."
Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami smiles one last time, then terminates the connection. She lets out a sigh of sorrow, which turns hastily into a squawk of s urprise as Takashi puts his head on her shoulder again. "Oh my god, you are insufferable!" she says, thwapping him gently with a book. "Go away, I'm still studying!"
