Lunch Break
Date of Scene: 26 August 2015
Location: Mitakihara - Easter Corp. Skyscraper - Dark Laboratory
Synopsis: Yomi and Euphemia meet while the former has lunch and the latter works on a project.
Cast of Characters: Euphemia Barchetta, Yomi Takanashi

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
Sitting in one of the common areas of UMBRA's new headquarters is a girl with bright cyan hair wearing a simple white dress. Anyone who paid attention to dossiers would know her name is Euphemia Barchetta and that she's not from Earth, but rather Midchilda and was accepted into Eclipse in exchange for a large number of Midchildan Devices- items that allowed their users to cast magic in short. Not long after joining she was assigned to Takashi's new UMBRA division. Anyone who paid attention to gossip would know she's curious to a fault, extremely eager to get to know people, and at times annoying as heck and a walking disaster area.

Currently the twelve year old girl is sitting at a table, a large pile of technological pieces scattered out in front of her along with a few tools and a small bottle that is suspiciously labeled 'Krazy Glue'. There's a look of concentration on her face as she keeps attempting to fit the pieces together, and every now and then when they seem to fit but not hold together she'll reach for the little bottle, apply it liberally to one piece, and then stick the other on it.

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
Yomi Takanashi enters the common area from one of the side-doors. It appears to be her lunch break- the dark-haired girl has a small brown sack in one hand, and she casts her green eyes about the room from behind her glasses, seeking a place to sit. They alight upon the girl in the white dress, a few years younger than herself, and her lips quirk to the side slightly- not a smile, more like an expression of thoughtfulness. She recognized this girl from her snooping- er, research in the company files.

After a moment, she walks over to the table. She speaks in a soft, but well-cultured-sounding voice, as if she always thinks carefully about what she's about to say. "Excuse me. You're Euphemia Barchetta, aren't you? Do you mind if I join you?" A small smile touches her face, and she holds up the sack. "It's my lunch break."

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
The girl continues working on her little project as Yomi arrives, hearing her footsteps but focusing on her current task. She's currently wiggling a couple pieces together, pursing her lips a bit after a moment and tapping her finger on the table. "I -know- these two go together..." After a few more moments they miraculously click together, fitting so perfectly the seem is invisible- unlike the very-visible seams of those other, glued pieces.

"Yay!" Euphemia cheers, just in time to get a look at look at the other girl as she walks up. She gives a quick wave with her hand, "Hi! Yep, that's me." It's about then she realizes one of her tools has glued itself to her fingers. "Erm..." With a small laugh she uses her -other- hand to wave her closer, "Nope, I don't mind at all. I'm using the table though so you might want to be careful."

Right about then she reaches over and picks up a large bottle of fingernail polish remover and opens it up, dribbling a few(way too many) drops onto her finger. A few seconds later the tool pops off as a bead of the liquid rolls down her forearm.

The area now smells of acetone.

"What's your name?" Euphemia asks brightly, leaning forward a bit over the table as she sets the tool down.

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
Yomi's eyes dart over the various bits and pieces on the table, taking them in. She recognizes that they are pieces of a Device, or Devices, but lacking any expertise in such things she has no idea how they work- or if what Euphemia is doing will actually work, or is exactly as dumb as it appears. Lacking evidence, she seems to give the other girl the benefit of the doubt.

She pulls out the chair across from Euphemia, putting the greatest distance of table between them, and sits primly smoothing her skirt. "My name is Yomi Takanashi," She introduces herself, again giving that little smile that never really seems to touch her cool green eyes. "I understand we're going to be working together, so I thought it would be a good idea for me to introduce myself." She places her sack on the table. The smell of acetone doesn't seem to bother her, though she does continue to glance over the other girl's 'project'. "Are you.. doing that for someone, or just for.. fun?" She asks after a moment.

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
"We are?" Euphemia asks with a small tilt of her head, "Then I'm happy you're talking with me- I hope we can be friends!" Another bright smile- her own eyes tend to shine when she does, or glint when she's frustrated or angry. The only time she ever really tries to hide her emotions is when she needs to placate someone and while that isn't uncommon she normally wears her heart on her sleeve.

She watches the older girl as she sits down so carefully, and then with a laugh answers her question. "Both! I took it apart for fun, but now I probably need to get it back together for Takashi. These things are -so- much harder to put back together than take apart." A short pause and she adds with a sigh and a small shake of her head, "Most things are, though."

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
By contrast, Yomi gives off the impression of being very reserved- as if she carefully considers every expression and word before she shows them, measuring their possible impact on the people she is around and whether or not she would be happy with the result. It gives her the mien of wearing a mask all the time, though she'd deny it if confronted on such a matter.

"I am sure we will be.. good teammates." She says graciously, removing a small salad in a bowl from her bag. She glances at the Device again, quirking a brow at the other girl's words. "Yes.. I imagine that's so. Are you sure you should have taken it apart in the first place if it belongs to Agera-san?"

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
Euphemia splits her attention between working putting more pieces back together and talking to Yomi, tending to look up every now and then at the other girl's face so it still feels like a two-way conversation. It looks like she's going for the glue again.

"Good!" she replies cheerfully, only to once again momentarily stop what she's doing, actually studying Yomi for a moment. "Hmm... you seem like the strategist type. I'll look forward to your awesome plans, then!" A quick smile and she goes back to trying to piece the Device back together. She laughs again, "Probably not, but he wouldn't even have it if it wasn't for me. He's also already studied this one and there's others like it. There's nothing special about it at all, it's just your ordinary Storage Device." She taps the handle of one of her small tools against her cheek, "I thought I should start small, for once."

She tries forcing the pieces she's working on with her little tool only to let out a sharp, "Ouch!" as she jabs a finger with it. She holds her finger close to her face and squeezes it. No blood! Back to work she goes.

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
Yomi carefully applies a conservative amount of dressing to her salad from a separately packed little container, then mixes it with a plastic fork before daintily raising a bite to her lips, chewing softly with her mouth shut as she watches Euphemia work. When the other girl says she looks like the 'strategist' type, she swallows before answering, again with that small smile on her lips. "I'm.. afraid you might be mistaken with that assumption, Barchetta-san. My.. other self, for whom I am sure my appointment to this task force was made is.." She hestiates, not really sure how to continue.

"Well. She is not very subtle." She finishes with, lifting her shoulders in another shrug. "Perhaps I can be of some use to Agera-san between missions but.. that has yet to be seen. He certainly has not requested it as of yet."

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
A quick look is given to the salad and the dressing to try and discern what kinds they are. When Yomi starts eating with dainty careful bites and perfect manners she grins a little, but doesn't say anything. A moment later her attention is grabbed by the other girl's words, "Ohhh, I getcha! Your ~other identity~ is a raging type, huh? You should meet Miss White! She's like that all the time. Oh, right, she's the Director over at WPS, one of our sister company....things."

Corporate structuring is not her strong suit.

Having successfully glued another two pieces together she starts trying to fit two of the already glued pieces to each other, twisting them around in all sorts of ways and looking like she's just mashing them on each other. "I'm sure you can be if that's what you want! And if you don't, that's fine too." She looks up with a grin, "That'd give us more time to play!"

Things don't seem to be going her way with her reconstruction and she makes a soft little, "Grr..." Setting down the tools she takes the two pieces and starts hitting them together more violently, eventually setting one on the table and then lifting the other high above her head and smashing it down full force with a loud bang that rattles everything on top.

"Oh shoot-" she exclaims as the bottle of acetone starts to tip over, reaching for it with both hands and grabbing it after only a small puddle has been made.

Surprisingly enough, the antics seem to have worked, the two pieces having synched together... though there's a mishmash of glued and unglued seams.

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
"Something like that." Yomi replies diplomatically to Euphemia's assumptions about her other form. At the mention of Miss White, she nods her head slightly, dark hair bobbing against her shoulders. "Yes, I have not met her, but I am aware of Miss White and her operation." She's aware of as much as she can find out by snooping through the files she has access to- and some she technically doesn't, but found a way into anyway.

When EUphemia starts to get a little.. overzealous with the repairwork, Yomi's lips turn down into a slight frown, and she carefully lifts her salad bowl off of the table itself, so that when the other girl slams the two pieces together none of her things spill, at least. "You certainly have an.. unorthodox method of Device repair." She comments, replacing her salad once the danger has passed. And perhaps silently thanking the gods that she herself does not use such a Device.

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
"You should meet her," Euphemia repeats, "She's really strong willed and passionate- and powerful too! You should see the awesome things she can do because of her research." Once she sets the bottle of polish remover safely back on the table she looks to the salad, then Yomi, and winks, "Nice save!"

She slips out of her chair and skips over to get a small handful of napkins, heading back to the table afterwards and cleaning up the spill. She also goes ahead and puts the cap back on the bottle, just to be safe. The wet napkins are then used to wipe up a few stray drops of glue- at least she manages to get this right, wiping every last one up.

"I imagine so! It's the first time I've gotten the chance to try. I could -probably- just get a manual or ask Bulwark for instructions..." She looks over to Yomi and gives the polite girl a happy grin, "but this is a whole lot more fun!"

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
Yomi finishes her salad, carefully closing the container back up and returning it to her sack. Waste not, want not, after all. She watches Euphemia cleaning up her mess, seeming to approve of the fact that, as noted, at least she does this thoroughly. "I imagine I shall meet her, before too long." She says, on the subject of Miss White. "Although I don't know much about the internal politics of.. the larger group, just yet. I do intend to learn."

That little smile returns, though it never touches her cool green eyes as she regards Euphemia when the girl extolls the virtues of 'learning by doing'. "There is something to be said for.. improvisation." She murmurs softly. "Although I imagine it often works better on simpler machines than that. Still.." She regards the Device. "It.. looks like it may function." Maybe? She doesn't know much about them.

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
Euphemia shakes her head, "To be honest I don't really understand the politics either. I think Takashi-san and Miss White have some kind of an arrangement though. I'm not sure if it's a formal one between UMBRA and WPS though. I'll ask next time I see him!"

The Storage Device is effectively a staff with a curious shape at the top, with most of that top piece now put together, minus the actual shaft. "I'd rather figure out how things work as I go than know how to put it together but not know why," she responds with a smile. "Though... you're right that on something this complex it's a lot harder. Once it's kinda-sorta together again it'll probably be easy to fix it up the rest of the way. I'm sure it'll work just fine once I'm done with it!"

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
Yomi continues to smile slightly, now done eating and resting her hands folded in her lap. "I admire your confidence." She says, with just a hint of sarcasm in her tone-, though not enough for most to pick up on. She's very good at those sorts of double-edged comments. Although it does give the sense that this is just something she does to everyone, not that she is attempting to mock Euphemia out of malice.

"Still.." SHe rises from her chair, picking up her sack again. "I should return to my desk. I do have work to do.." She sighs softly. "The internship was just a front, I thought, but they do seem to enjoy loading me up with busywork when there is nothing more.. interesting to do."

Euphemia Barchetta has posed:
The sarcasm goes right over the younger girls head and she responds by giving a smile. "Confidence is important! If you think you're going to fail you probably will." A few more pieces are glued into place, though once done she holds the piece out and gives it a skeptical look. "That's not right... but I wonder what'll happen if I leave it like that?" Somehow this seems even -better- than fixing it properly to the girl, and so she leaves it in place.

"Okay. It was nice meeting you!" She then laughs a little when the internship is brought up, "They suckered you into that, huh? I'm lucky- they don't want me anywhere near their paperwork."

Euphemia sets down the pieces she's working on when it seems the other girl really is done with her lunch and about to leave, giving her a bright, mischievous smile. "Don't worry, Yomi-chan; I'll make sure there's -plenty- of interesting things that happen around here!"

Yomi Takanashi has posed:
"I am sure." Yomi says, a response to all of the other girl's statements in one, as she turns to slip from the room. "I look forward to working with you, Barchetta-san. I am sure we will have.. interesting times." And then she is gone, as quietly as she came, to return to whatever work Eclipse deems it smart for her to do.
