Donuts and Foxes
Date of Scene: 27 October 2015
Location: Pikarigaoka - Kaoru's Donuts
Synopsis: Ikiko shares a donut with a hungry-looking fox... who turns out to be Ayana, much to both of their surprises.
Cast of Characters: Ikiko Hisakata, Ayana

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
The weather might be getting cooler, but sunny days like today are still enjoyable. And what better way to spend some free time than to eat some delicious donuts, freshly made right before your eyes?

Ikiko takes a deep breath as she walks over to Kaoru's Donut Stand, savoring the scent of fried dough. There's a person or two ahead of her in line, so she has time to decide on the important things: what flavor of donuts to get? Or should she just ask for an assortment? Decisions, decisions...

Ayana has posed:
*Splash!* In a nearby park, not far from Kaoru's mobile donut stand, a black fox falls into the water in one of the ponds! There is a little shrill of surprise as the fox realises that while the day may be warming, the water is *cold*. Rather than chasing the fish it was initially after, the fox paddles hastily back to shore and emerges, shivering, from the waters. The little creature shakes itself vigorously to try and get rid of the water, but stares longingly back into the pond at the fish.

That's about when the smell of donuts reaches the creature's nose. The little fox's ears perk up curiously, and it turns in the direction of the donut stand. Still shivering, still wet, the little creature puts its head down low and creeps its way towards the donut stand. It drips with every step, but surely someone will drop a donut, and the little fox will be ready to snatch it up the moment it hits the ground!

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
The sound of the splashing water blends in with the noise of the donut machine, and Ikiko's attention is on the donuts rolling through the machine. After a few moments of waiting for the people ahead of her to depart with their donuts, Ikiko steps forward. "I'll have a small assortment, please!" she smiles.

Kaoru grins, then starts boxing up a collection of donuts. While he does that, Ikiko looks around, and she spots a black fox looking soggy and miserable, its stance that of a scavenger in wait. "May I have a plain donut as part of the assortment, please?" she asks Kaoru after a brief moment of thought.

Soon enough, the donuts are given to Ikiko, and she pays for them and walks in the general direction of the fox. "Here you go, little clever one," she murmurs in caninespeak. "I have a little snack for you, and I can keep you company while you warm up."

Ayana has posed:
The little fox slows as it nears the donut stand, peering from around a curb. It peers at a particularly promising prospect for several moments, just waiting to see if a delicious delicate donut dives for the dirt. But suddenly, her vision is full of Ikiko, and the fox *stares* in confusion and suprise. "Ikiko!" the little fox yelps out.

Hopefully Ikiko won't understand what Ayana said in return, because that would just lead to all kinds of problems for her. But there's a donut being offered, and the little black fox accepts it greedily. "Ohmygosh donuts I love donuts so much, Ikiko, you're the best friend a fox could have," she says happily. Dropping the donut to the ground, she lays down on her stomach and starts to gnaw at it. Her slender, sharp-toothed mouth just isn't capable of stuffing full of food like her human mouth, but the little fox has practice with donut-eating in this form, and in no time the first half is gone.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata blinks a bit at the fox's yelp of surprise, then smiles gently as she's happily thanked. She puts the other half of the donut down where the first was, then gently reaches over and skritches the fox between the ears. "You certainly seem hungry," Ikiko remarks, this time in Japanese. "Glad I got a small box of donuts!"

She sits down and opens up the box, looking at the flavors present and glancing at the fox. The fox is obviously smarter than the average animal, and something about her seems familiar to Ikiko, but there's nothing firmly linking this fox to a certain magical foxgirl friend of hers.

At the very least, even a frosted donut probably won't cause any harm to this obviously special fox. "Hmm, I think I might split another donut with you," Ikiko murmurs, looking over at the fox and then tilting the box so the fox can see the available flavors. "Which one would you like next?" she inquires, swapping back to caninespeak.

Ayana has posed:
"Well of course I'm hungry," the little fox replies as it sits on its haunches, staring up at Ikiko with its shocking sapphire eyes. "I'm always hungry, you know that." When the box is tilted towards her, the little fox leans up to peek in, then points her nose at a chocolate donut with chocolate glaze and sprinkles. "Oh oh that one! Chocolate's so good!" And so bad for dogs.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"Oh, that /does/ look tasty!" Ikiko agrees, her smile widening as she takes the donut and splits it in half, offering part of it to the fox. Part of the smile is because she's getting a stronger suspicion as to who the fox might be -- the familiarity and the sapphire eyes are pretty distinctive -- while the other part of the smile is because chocolate/chocolate donuts *are* very tasty!

She pats her lap invitingly. "You're probably still cold from being damp," she remarks to the fox with a smile. "Come on and warm up a bit with me."

Ayana has posed:
The little fox takes the donut and once more drops it on the ground, but before she can dig in, Ikiko is offering her lap. Ayana considers it thoughtfully for a moment, tilting her head. "But then your lap will be wet," she notes, looking up at Ikiko concernedly. "And that would be super awkward. I don't think it's a good idea, Ikiko."

But she does think cuddling up against Ikiko's legs is a good idea, and she does just that, leaning into the girl's calves as she starts in on the second half-donut she's been offered.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata smiles warmly, reaching over and petting the fox. It's not something you can do to a human-form'd kitsune without massive amounts of awkwardness, but a kitsune in animal form? That seems reasonable enough.

"You're such a kind, considerate little fox," she murmurs appreciatively. "And you have great taste in donuts!" A few bites later, Ikiko finishes her donut half, then looks in the box. "Hmm, powdered jelly-filled; those are usually good," she muses in Japanese, pausing the petting long enough to take the next donut and split it, again offering half to the little fox.

Ayana has posed:
Ayana licks her nose and lips clean, then leans into the pettings happily. "Yessssssss," she hisses happily, a whining noise for everyone else to hear. Twisting around, she shows Ikiko her belly, but instead of getting bellyrubs, she instead gets jelly donut! "Oo, yum!" she says, immediately twisting back onto her feet so she can consume it. This one will be messy, but she doesn't care. Free food is free food!

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata grins at the fox's happiness. The only thing better than fresh donuts is eating fresh donuts with a friend, especially if it makes your friend's day! She eats her half of the donut while the fox eats the other half, still giving pettings with her free hand.

Once she finishes her donut-half, she licks her fingers clean and looks at the remaining donuts. They're tasty, but somewhat filling with the friendship added in. Perhaps taking a short break from the donuts would be a good idea -- focus on the fox-petting and such for a while. If the fox wants bellyrubs after finishing this current donut-half, then the fox can get bellyrubs!

Ayana has posed:
When Ayana twists back over onto her back, once more, the little fox's mouth is covered in jelly. She keeps licking at it, but it doesn't seem to be having much effect. Nevertheless, she almost immediately reaches for Ikiko's hand, gnawing on it very gently with her teeth.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata slightly turns her hand so she can stroke the fox's cheek with a finger or two of the gnawed hand. Freeing her hand, she then reaches down and gently bellyrubs the fox. "The ferocious donut-hunter, fresh from a successful hunt," she grins playfully.

Ayana has posed:
Ayana licks at her jaws once and lets out a yapping noise. "Darned right!" she agrees, then sighs contentedly. "Man, I don't deserve a friend like you, Ikiko. You're like the best. You buy me donuts, let me sleep at your house, give me pettings."

The fox's rambling trails off for a moment as she considers that, then she rolls back over and hangs her head as she leans on Ikiko's legs. "You deserve a better friend than me."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata scoops up the fox into a hug, putting the pointed black head on her shoulder and nuzzling the fox's neck. "Don't sell yourself short, Ayana," she murmurs into the fox's ears. "I think you're a great friend, and I wouldn't have it any other way."

Ayana has posed:
Ayana is still wet, but she doesn't seem to mind being hugged. That is, until Ikiko addresses her by name, at which point she yelps and squirms to try and get away. "You understand me!" she says, obviously both surprised and worried. "You weren't supposed to understand me!" At least she didn't say anything about Takashi.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"I think it has something to do with my heritage as a diluted werewolf," Ikiko explains, lightening up on the hug but not letting Ayana squirm away. "I've always been able to communicate in general emotions with dogs and the like, but once I became a magical girl I could actually communicate with them using /words./"

She gives her foxfriend a big grin. "But I never thought you'd be a *kitsune*! No wonder you have a knack for illusions!"

Ayana has posed:
Ayana lets out a little noise of unhappiness. At this point, Ikiko is getting wet, so there's no sense in not sitting in the girl's lap. Nevertheless, she also stares up at Ikiko with those telling sapphire eyes full of sorrow. "Well, I mean, I wasn't born a kitsune," she explains quietly. "We should go somewhere more private so I can shift back. I don't ... it's weird talking to you like this, and someone's going to call you crazy, and I don't want you to be picked on."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata headtilts at Ayana's comment, but nods, places the fox down, then stands up with the box of donuts. Walking to the nearby park, she heads to a quiet bench near a cluster of easy-to-walk-around bushes, then nods to the bushes and waits for Ayana to join her on the bench in human form.

Ayana has posed:
The little fox pads along beside Ikiko towards the park, then ducks behind the bushes before Ikiko even takes her seat. She emerges in a pair of jean shorts and a black tankini top, both damp like she's spent the day swimming in a pool. The sandals on her feet make loud slapping noises as she rejoins Ikiko at the bench and claims a seat.

Before she says anything, Ayana reaches into the box of donuts and pulls one out. The dejected look on her face lightens somewhat as she starts to shove it into her mouth, but she stops just shy of getting it gross, stares at Ikiko, and then tears the donut in half. She places the second half back in the box, in case Ikiko wants it, then shoves food in her face.

When she finally swallows, she asks, "What do you think a kitsune is?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata picks up the other half of the donut and takes a bite, a thoughtful expression on her face. "A magical fox-like creature, to put it simply," she shrugs. "Clever and mischievous, gaining in wisdom and power as they grow older. Shapeshifters, able to look like a fox or a human, at their choice, without the phase of the moon having any effect. Often known for their powers of illusion, but sometimes having other magics."

She gives her foxfriend an inquisitive look. "But I admit, I don't think I've ever heard of someone being turned into a kitsune," she muses. "They're not like lycanthropes, where an overpacked and usually corrupted soul tries to infect others."

Ayana has posed:
"That's because people aren't turned into Kitsune," Ayana replies with a faint frown. But now she's come to it, she isn't so sure she can explain the whole of it. So many questions will come from admitting this to Ikiko. So instead she just pulls her knees up to her chest and hugs them gently.

"I wish ..." Ayana starts to say, then shakes her head. "No, it doesn't matter. It can't happen anyways. Hey, how do you catch a fish in a pond without getting wet or in trouble?" she asks curiously.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata reaches over and hugs Ayana. "Never give up on your wishes," she murmurs. Her curiosity is piqued, but her foxfriend doesn't seem to be in a cheerful enough mood to be asked about it.

Instead, there's a question available. "Using a fishing pole and line should help keep you dry," she suggests. "As for not getting in trouble... all I can think of is to fish where you have permission to fish."

Ayana has posed:
Ayana leans into the hug a little, then wrinkles her nose. "Lame," she says faintly. "That sounds like a lot of effort. I wish it was summer; I could just go swim in and grab one in my mouth. They're stupid and fat and they don't think they'll get eaten, but they taste so good." She sighs a little, then glances at Ikiko briefly before asking, "Did you know it was me before I started talking to you?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"Nope," admits Ikiko. "I had a vague suspicion once you started talking, but it wasn't until the chocolate donut that I was pretty sure that it was you. Between your eyes and how you knew that I knew you, it made me fairly confident in my guess."

She gives Ayana an extra squeeze and a warm smile. "All I saw was a wet and hungry-looking fox lurking around, so I thought I'd give it a small snack to take the edge off of its hunger."

Ayana has posed:
Ayana blushes a little, then reaches in the box for another donut. They're almost gone! "And then you realized what a horrible mistake you'd made, when the fox didn't stop eating!" she says with a grin, before tearing this one in half and nibbling on it. "You really get your power from that amulet, huh?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata munches on the other half of the donut. "Then I realized that I was eating donuts with a friend, which is the best way to eat donuts!" she giggles. Fewer donuts to eat, but more enjoyment to be had.

She gives a half-nod at Ayana's question. "It's more of a catalyst than a source, but it /is/ important," she clarifies. "It amplifies my soul, which then grants me power; without it, I'm just an average girl who happens to have a little bit more soul than a normal person. Enough to be slightly magical, but not enough to do much in terms of magic."

Ayana has posed:
"Must be nice," Ayana mumbles quietly. She reaches up to touch still night--currently dangling from a choker around her neck, shaped as a little black fox-face. "Still Night is just something I got after I was already magical," she explains. "But ... I'm not like you. Not really."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"So?" shrugs Ikiko. "You're still a magical girl; you're still clever, kind, and brave; and most importantly, you're still my friend." She then proceeds to emphasize that last point by giving Ayana a big hug!

Ayana has posed:
"Not really," Ayana says with a wrinkles of her nose. "Just a kitsune," she mumbles unhappily. "And not even a natural one at that." She shakes her head, then licks her fingers clean before hugging Ikiko. "You're too good to me. But I'm glad your'e my friend."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"And I'm glad you're my friend," Ikiko smiles warmly, leaning into the hug. A dog-girl pair of friends -- a kitsune (of sorts) and a werewolf (who's diluted) -- who would have guessed it?

An idea comes to Ikiko's mind, and she giggles slightly. "Y'know, now we have a way to talk with each other in relative secrecy while still being in plain sight," she observes. "Not a lot of people understand caninespeech, even among magical girls."

Ayana has posed:
Ayana sniffs amusedly at Ikiko, then shakes her head. "You're so odd," she tells her friend quietly. "I mean, that's true. But you're still odd." She hugs Ikiko again, then asks, "So what are you up to, today?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"Not much," shrugs Ikiko. "Helped out at a local animal shelter earlier, but other than that it's been a pretty uneventful day, and I don't really have much of anything else planned." She leans against Ayana, then looks at her foxfriend. "What about you? Other than trying to fish, of course."

Ayana has posed:
Ayana leans against Ikiko in return, then shrugs a little. "Just trying not to think about all the homework I should have done," she admits. "My brother's gonna be so mad at me when we get our grades."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata nods. "Homework usually isn't fun, but family finding out about your grades is worse," she agrees. "I know they just want us to do our best... but sometimes it almost feels like more trouble than it's worth."

Ayana has posed:
"Mmff," Ayana replies quietly, then gives Ikiko another hug and a kiss on the cheek. "I should probably go. I'm going to get in so much trouble," she grumbles. "I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko Hisakata gives Ayana a big hug! "I should probably head home as well," she agrees. "Still, it was nice seeing you today, and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!" She takes the now-empty donut box as she heads off, disposing of it in a nearby trashcan and then waving one more goodbye to Ayana.

Ayana has posed:
Ayana smiles a little as Ikiko heads off, but the smile fades quickly once her friend is gone. She sighs and melds down into her fox form once more, then pads off towards her home, and her 'brother', Takashi.
