It's Melanite's First Day of School!
Date of Scene: 10 November 2015
Location: Seishou Public School
Synopsis: The New Transfer Student is never a villain in disguise.
Cast of Characters: Makoto Kino, Ami Mizuno, Usagi Tsukino, Melanite

Melanite has posed:
And it's a pleasant November day at Seishou Public School. The sun is shining, the weather is cool but pleasant - at least it isn't raining - and most of the students would rather be anywhere else. There's been rumor about a new exchange student - Umino saw a tall blonde girl at the administration offices yesterday - but everyone thought she'd be too old for this class.

So when Haruna Sakurada enters the classroom and the class rep calls everyone to order, no one is expecting her to say what comes next. "Good morning, class! I do hope everyone is ready for another wonderful day of learning. Because we have a new student joining us, so let's all give her a warm welcome!" She must have just had an extra cup of coffee, she's that enthusiastic about it.

The door opens again, and in walks the tall blonde Umino saw. "Whoa," is the general opinion of the male students, as she stands by the blackboard and waves to everyone.

"Hi there!" she says, grinning widely. "I'm Kyra Nygaard, from Denmark, and I'll be spending the year studying with you all. It's great to meet everyone!" Tall and blonde, just as Umino promised. And since - like another tall girl in the same class - they don't make a uniform in her size, she's made do with a retailored boy's uniform. Complete with tie.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
There's a sharp jab to her ribcage.

Usagi, who has up until this point been discretely napping behind a book (fighting evil by moonlight takes away from precious sleep!), tries a discrete yawn and stretch.

"Who marks dens?" She whispers to Naru.

The redhead rolls her eyes and points to the front of the class.

Oh! New girl!

New girl in slacks!

Jealous...

She waves and offers a greeting with everyone else.

Looks like no one noticed her nap! Muahaha.

Makoto Kino has posed:
Not quite 'no one' - Makoto glances toward Usagi, smiling ruefully, before Kyra's entrance draws her attention fully back to the front of the room and the tall girl sits up straighter in her seat.

'Wow,' Mako thinks to herself, taking in the sight of the new girl's stature, and that very non-standard uniform. She finds herself admiring Kyra's confidence as she waves back. Maybe they can be friends?

"Welcome to our class, Nygaard-san," Makoto offers with a friendly smile. She totally mangles the pronunciation, but at least it was a valiant effort?

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Seated quietly at a desk near the front, the blue-haired Ami also has her own nose in a book--a textbook to be precise, but not one that has anything to do with topics taught at this school. This one seems to be on orbital physics. She doesn't bother looking up as Sakurada enters and says good morning; she just keeps on reading, knowing she can answer roll call.

But new students; those earn a faint and very disappointed amount of attention from Ami. She squints and hastily finishes reading the sentence she's on, then raises her head so that she can peer over the frames of her reading glasses. She blinks one in faint surprise at the girl's features, then provides suitable greetings, "Welcome, Nygaard-san," before returning to her textbook.

Melanite has posed:
Kyra turns around long enough to write out her name on the chalkboard, first in Romanji, then in Katakana. It's not -too- hard to pronounce, once it's spelled out. She beams proudly as other students offer their own welcomes, posing with her hands clasped behind her waist and looking over the class. Her eyes settle briefly on each of her fellow students, assessing them, lingering for a longer moment on one particular girl with a long raven-black braid.

"Welcome to Seishou Public School, Ms Nygaard," Haruna-sensei adds her own greetings. "Now, if you'll take a seat? I understand you're rooming with our Ami-chan, there's a seat open for you."

Wait, what? There aren't any seats next to Ami... but then the raven-braided girl stands up and bows, and Kyra grins. "Thanks, Sensei, Ami-chan." That's it. Ami Matsumori, not Ami Mizuno. Kyra takes her seat beside her host, and Haruna-sensei gets the class started.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
She catches the look from Makoto and offers a happy wave. Then Usagi's eyebrows furrow in confusion. Ami-chan? Which Ami-chan! (Such a source of confusion!)

(Then, of course, with everyone's attention diverted, a quick text to Mamo-chan! Because reasons!)

But wait! "How come Ami-chan didn't tell me you were getting a roommate?" So many sad faces at her short haired friend. (The wrong one, but hey!)

Makoto Kino has posed:
At the name 'Ami,' Makoto flashes Ami (Mizuno) a very confused and perhaps slightly wounded look - you're hosting the new student and didn't *tell us?*, her expression clearly communicates without words - but all is soon made clear when Kyra finds her seat.

"Pssst, Usagi-chan." Mako leans out of her desk to stage whisper. "It's Matsumori-san. The *other* Ami!"

Then she flicks an apologetic look toward Kyra, perhaps remembering how little she liked being the subject of even such harmless whispering back when she was the new transfer student.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Even Ami looks up very confusedly as her name is spoken, but then she hears Makoto's whisper, and everything makes sense again. She frowns a little, then shakes her head and digs her nose back into her book.

Melanite has posed:
Class goes on, as it usually does, from there. Haruna-sensei makes a point of calling on Kyra once or twice for various questions. She handles it well, though it's obvious that she's having a bit of trouble with picking out the kanji. Maybe someone could help her study sometime. She's sharing Ami - Ami Matsumori, that is - Ami's textbook, for the moment, as her own won't be in until tomorrow.

Eventually, there's a break between classes, and it's the chance to greet the new girl properly! At least Matsumori-san's there to help fend off the boys asking for ecchi things!

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Shortly into the break, Naru has to drag Umino away by the ear.

Usagi hovers over Ami-chan (HER Ami-chan) and her book, but she doesn't want to interrupt!

So she gives Ami-chan (again, hers) a quick hug before floating over to Makoto. Which, another hug! (Squish!)

Then she's floating to the crowd, because she thrives on crowds. She manages to wiggle in, because being petite has its advantages, and she just props her chin on the new girl's desk, enjoying the humdrum.

Makoto Kino has posed:
Hug! And then Mako lets Usagi dart ahead. She could plow her way through her classmates, but she prefers not to; instead, though she follows Usagi across the room toward Kyra's desk, Makoto hangs back a little behind the throng of curious students. She can easily see over most of their heads, anyway.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami pays attention during class, sure, but the moment they get a break it's right back to her book--right up until she's squeezed from behind!

Ami blinks in surprise and sets her book down, then turns to follow Usagi towards the newest novelty of the classroopm. While she is similarly small, Ami doesn't quite have Usagi's non-Newtonian fluidity, so she winds up standing beside the much taller Makoto instead. "She's about as tall as you are," she mumbles to her friend quietly.

Melanite has posed:
Someone's certainly feeling affectionate today! Unfortunately it isn't Kyra. She seems to like her Ami well enough, but she came very close to doing something unfortunate to a boy who pushed his way up and asked for her three sizes. Fortunately someone elbowed him away in time to save him.

The girls of the class seem to be more polite, and get more attention from her. With everyone coming to her, there's no need to get up and walk around to meet everyone, which certainly pleases her. She chats pleasantly with those who are polite to her in turn, her eyes bright and warm, her lips constantly smiling. Eventually she turns her attention to the sleepy girl resting on her desk. "Hello, there... Tukino-san, was it?" She doesn't quite seem to have gotten Usagi's name right, apparently. "Enjoying the view from down there?"

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi was torn between falling asleep again and wiggling back out to poke her friends when her name is...misspoken.

"Tsukino," she corrects with a yawn, sitting up and streeeeetching. "And yup! I learned about two more curse words." She points to the profanity still scrawled on the desk.

Makoto Kino has posed:
Ami's murmured comment gets a nod of agreement from Makoto, before she hears what Usagi professes to have learned. "Usagi-chan," she protests, laughing. "I don't think that's something you should say so proudly."

A glance towards Ami, and then Mako picks her way over to offer Kyra friendly hand. "Nice to meet you," she says. "I'm Makoto Kino. You look like you're managing fine anyway, but if you need anything, feel free to ask. I was a new transfer not too long ago myself, so I know a bit about what it's like."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
And Ami? Ami is still not entirely certain about this whole people thing, but both of her friends are introducing themselves, so she follows in Makoto's wake and winds up next to her friend at the new girl's desk. "I'm the other Ami," she introduces herself, "Ami Mizuno. Do you know what clubs you'll be in, yet?" Blunt, much?

Melanite has posed:
Kyra ahhhs softly. "So that's what those are." She takes out a notepad she's been scribbling kanji in all class, as she works out which means what, and adds them to her list. "Dare I ask what they mean?"

She looks up at Makoto, and stands to take her hand. "Thank you very much, Kino-san. I'll be sure to call on you if there's anything that I can't ask Ami-chan for." She flashes the other tall girl a warm grin. "Maybe you can show me where to find girl clothes my size around here?" Ooh, shopping!

To Ami - Mizuno, that is - she offers one of her pleasant little smiles as well. "It's good to meet you as well, Mizuno-san," she says, "Ami-chan's been telling me all about how I should ask you for advice on studying. Clubs?"

"She's joining the Light Music club, with me!" says The Other Ami, "No poaching!"

"I'm afraid she's right," Kyra says, earning disappointed groans from a few who'd been hoping to recruit her for other groups.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi shrugs. "Mako-chan's probably right." She leans against said girl. "But someone will let you know, I'm sure." Not because she doesn't know of course! She totally does!

Then she leans against (her) Ami-chan. "If Detention were a club, I'd be president." This makes her sound like a delinquent, most likely. Oh well. "But I haven't been there as much lately!"

Then, because she cant choose which of her friends to lean against, she hugs both of their arms.

Makoto Kino has posed:
"That's *definitely* not something you should say so proudly," Mako tells Usagi, but there's a teasing lilt in her voice and her green eyes are bright with affection as she loops an arm easily around her friend's shoulders.

Bringing her attention back to Kyra, she grins and nods firmly. "It's not easy finding cute clothes in bigger sizes," she says with easy commiseration. "I can show you all the good places I know... although I usually have to alter things for myself at least a little. If it's something easy like a hem or just putting in some darts, I don't mind doing it for a friend, either."

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami manages to facepalm--no wait, she's just removing her glasses and placing them in a pocket of her uniform. "Ah, not Chess or Swimming, then," she says with a faint frown. But really, what else is she going to add, except, "Usagi-chan, did you finish your homework for Mathematics last night? Or do you need my help completing it at lunch, again?"

Melanite has posed:
Kyra nods and settles back in her seat, giving HER Ami a quick hug. "Nope, chess is over-analyzed, and swimming... well, there are better uses for water. Like cruise ships!" She -can- swim, certainly. She just doesn't do it for no other reason.

"Thanks a lot, Kino-san, I'll definitely take you up on that offer. I'll need to pick up, well, a bunch of things... the airline lost one of my suitcases, last I heard they -think- it's in Chicago... but then, the first time I checked they said it was in Dubai, so, I'm not holding out much hope."

She casts a final glance at Usagi, of the Detention Club Presidency and the math homework. "I do hope she's a very good friend," she murmurs to Ami.

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Her face jerks up to Kyra. A very good friend...? What did that...?

She thinks for a moment, but she's not liking where her mind's going.

Instead, she smiles up at (her) Ami-chan. "Um, most of it? No wait, I did. But can you check it over for me?"

She clings to her friends' arms a bit more, sort of hiding behind them now.

Why wouldn't she be a very good friend...? What?

Makoto Kino has posed:
It's sort of a delayed reaction, the way Makoto blinks at Kyra's murmured comment. A moment ago she was smiling in commiseration over the poor girl's lost luggage, but that glance at Usagi, and those words - something in it makes her back stiffen, and Mako falls silent, a slightly more guarded look coming over her face like the shadow of a cloud passing in front of the sun.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
Ami frowns just a little at Kyra's response to chess and swim club. Seriously? Who would find chess 'over-analyzed'? With a faint roll of her eyes, she turns her attention fully to Usagi. "I'd be happy to," she tells her friend with a nod. "I'm really proud of you for getting it done." A little encouragement goes a long way, right?

Melanite has posed:
Kyra shrugs, still smiling. "I'm sure we'll all be very good friends," she promises, and stretches out, hands high above her with her head thrown back to look up at the ceiling. "Mmm, so, what are you working on in math?" she asks, hoping to compare it to her classes back in Denmark.

She nods as Ami encourages Usagi. "I'm sure you did just find, Tu - Tsukino-san." She looks at a piece of paper for a moment, apparently her class schedule. "Math isn't until after lunch, right?"

Break is growing short, the next teacher must be almost here....

Usagi Tsukino has posed:
Usagi preens and gives a happy hum at Ami-chan's encouragements. Mako-chan is tense beside her, so she leeeeeans a bit more against her and snuggles, petting her forearm.

Her friends both have Tension! This must be resolved.

So she scoots her chairs back and stands up (most of the boys had found something shiny. Umino likely has a dirty magazine he's showing to them right now...)

"Yep!" She says as she pulls both her friends into a Comforting Sphere of Usagi Love and Adoration (TM)

She forgets the exact name of whatever math thing they're doing involving polythings, so she doesn't say this.

Makoto Kino has posed:
With Usagi determinedly cuddling her arm, Makoto relaxes, and the shadow that came over her expression passes, although maybe the easy, friendly openness of a moment or so ago has dimmed just slightly in its wake. "Ahaha," she laughs, bringing her free hand up to the back of her neck in clear embarrassment. "I'm not going to be the person to ask about math, sorry. Break's going to be over soon, too, so we should probably get back to our seats... I hope you have fun here at Seishou, Nygaard-san." She says it with all sincerity: an honest wish.

Ami Mizuno has posed:
"Advanced polynomials," Ami supplies for Usagi quietly. "But Mako-chan is right," she notes, hugging Usagi and Makoto both. "Welcome to class, Nygaard-san. I'm sorry you don't like the more interesting clubs," and then she turns and heads back to her own seat--and her book.

Melanite has posed:

There's a nice little cascade as Usagi's chair pushes people into each other behind her, apparently the boys had indeed found something to cluster around. And, probably something of Umino's, yes. It happens. Fortunately no one falls over this time.

"Thank you once again," Kyra says to Makoto, and "I do hope you'll be free for a bit tonight, to help with the shopping?"

To Ami (Mizuno, not Matsumori), she simply nods again, letting the girl get back to what's important to her. She has her own important things, after all, and one of them is right here next to her.

The other... well, she's not likely to find Queen Beryl sitting in this classroom, now, is she?
