It's the end of the school year and that means exams. All day every day with only a few exceptions. But once these exams are over it means several months of off time. At Infinity it's an especially stressful time of year as there's hardly such a thing as an 'easy class' or 'easy test' at the prestigious school.
Madoka Kaname has been doing her best to study despite all her extra-curricular distractions, fretting over every question and essay sentence, doing her best to put her best foot forward in this difficult academic environment. In a way these exams will be the determining factor in deciding whether or not she's cut out to be an Infinity student; she was given a pass on the last tests by virtue of having just transferred in, but now she's spent an entire term at the school after having moved back to Japan from America.
At least there's English to artificially inflate her GPA and test scores.
Each exam day does bring one respite, however, and that is the lunch period. As one test ends the bell rings for lunch and many students breath a collective sigh of relief, some heading to the cafeteria for food while others find quiet spots to eat or get out their home made or store bought Bentos in the classroom.
Madoka usually eats elsewhere, but that last test was so draining for her that she doesn't want to take the time heading to the roof or one of her other usual lunchtime haunts. Instead she gets out the bento box her father made for her that morning and unwraps it, opening it up eagerly to see what he made for her today.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi finished her test with a cramp in her hand, and set her pencils aside. While everyone else is busy going to collect their lunch, though, the young girl instead grabs her stomach briefly, before reaching into her bag. She hunts through it for a moment, then frowns. "Woops," she mumbles. "I forgot," she says.
Then she just smiles and shrugs, "Oh well, there's always dinner." She instead grabs out a small pocketwatch, its glass cover busted, and the hands clearly not turning, along with a precision screwdriver set. Apparently she means to fix it, instead of taking a lunch break.

Madoka giggles a little with bright eyes when she sees her lunch; there's tempura prawns, three pieces of pan-fried fish, garden fresh vegetables, a nice pile of rice, and some hotdogs cut to look like octopuses to complete the seafood theme. She's getting out a pair of chopsticks while she looks around the classroom, peeking at the lunches of those remain, when she notices that Anshi seems to be doing something other than eating. Was that the 'forgot' she heard earlier?
After a brief thoughtful moment she sets her chopsticks down on a napkin and gets up from her chair, walking over to Anshi's desk. She leans over it slightly, "Hayakawa-san, can you do me a favor?" The pink haired girl smiles and closes her eyes, "My father packed too much food in my lunch and I can't possibly eat it all by myself! Do you think you could help me finish it?"
Technically it's true; Tomohisa makes Madoka's lunches large because she's usually sharing with some friend or another.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi looks up from her pocketwatch when Madoka joins her, then smiles. "Kaname-san!" she says excitedly. "Help you? Sure, I'd love to help you. I can ... wait, eat your lunch?" she looks a little confused, but not at all upset. "Sure, if you're really sure! I don't have one, today, so that would be a huge help to me, too."
Anshi drops the pocketwatch and screwdriver set back in her bag, then hops out of her desk and moves to slide into one next to Madoka. "Oh my gosh, these are so cute," she says of the little octopus-hotdogs as she peers at Madoka's bento box. "Did you maked them?"
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
A quick nod is given and the smile on Madoka's face widens as her offer is happily taken up, "I'd be happy if you'd share it, Hayakawa-san. It's always more fun to share a meal than to eat alone." She goes back over to her seat and scoots the bento closer so that Anshi can get to it just as well as she can, retrieving an unopened pair of disposable chopsticks and offering them to the other girl.
She's quick to deflect when she's asked about cooking, "No, I'm not very good at cooking. I tried to make them like that once and the legs kept falling off." She laughs a little at her clumsiness before noting, "My father made everything. He's a really good cook though! He can cook anything, and everything he makes is delicious."
If the other girl digs in she'll find everything really is top notch, both delicious and healthy. "Oh! You can call me Madoka, if you like," the girl offers her classmate with another smile before helping herself to some of the vegetables.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi reaches for one of the little hotdogs and squeezes it between her fingers, making the little tentacles wiggle. She giggles excitedly before chowing down on the thing. "Ohhh so good," she mumbles as she chews, then swallows.
"It's funny, we never really did spend a lot of time together this year," Anshi says to Madoka with a grin. "I was just going to say my friends should call me Anshi. But thank you for sharing your lunch, Madoka-chan. It's really tasty." She doesn't hesitate to help herself to more, although she's very careful not to take quite as much as Madoka with each bite. After all, it's Madoka's lunch first!
"So what are you planning to do over the winter break?" Anshi asks curiously around the food. "Got any special plans for Christmas or the New Years?"
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka giggles as the hotdog is played with, looking happy when the other girl seems to enjoy it. She's quick to agree with a nod when the other girl moves to a first name basis. "You're welcome, Anshi-chan! It's so good that it would be terrible to let it go to waste." Certainly it would all get eaten anyway, but it wouldn't remain as fresh as it is now. Mostly she's just trying to express that she's pleased to be eating alongside the brunette, rather than just offering it out of pity.
She nods happily to the questions given to her, focusing on the second one rather than the first. "Christmas I plan on spending with Takashi-kun," the faintest of blushes- the rumors about what happened at the last Charity Ball were talked about for days, it's pretty well known that the two are dating. The rumors that they were started before they actually decided it, but for the last few weeks there's been no denials from Madoka.
"For New Years I was thinking of going to this big party that Hotel Augusta is throwing. It sounds like it'll be a lot of fun, and they're opening it up to all ages this year," she says happily, taking a few bites of prawns and rice afterwards. She's a pretty big eater, for being so small. She adds with a smile, "You don't have to hold back, Anshi-chan. Have as much as you like. Really!" Perceptive, too.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi's eyes widen just a little at the mention of Madoka's Christmas plans. "Madoka-chan!" she says excitedly, then laugh a little. "I thought it was just a rumour! You're really dating Agera-san? But he's like the smartest boy in our grade, and he's so cute! That's amazing," Anshi says. But rather than jealous, she sounds excited on Madoka's behalf.
"That New Years party sounds really grand," Anshi says thoughtfully. "I'd go, but unfortunately I already have plans with my family that day." Strictly speaking it's true, even if her plans are the same every day. "Are you going to join Crafts club again next year? It's been really great seeing some of the amazing things you put together this year. Maybe next year we can work together on some projects."
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka's face turns just a little more pink at the reaction to her Christmas plans. She avoids Anshi's gaze for a moment out of embarrassment, though she doesn't look truly uncomfortable. "He is very smart, and handsome too. ...and also sweet, once you get to know him." Others might dispute that fact, but she seems to think so.
She briefly looks excited at the mention of the New Years party, but calms herself once Anshi says she'll be with her family, not wanting to rub in the fact that she can't go. "I haven't decided just yet, but I think so! I worry I'm not spending enough time in either of my clubs to justify membership, but as long as it doesn't upset anyone I'll probably rejoin." Considering how club presidents like to bolster and inflate their member rolls in order to get extra funding it's not very likely she'd be forcibly removed.
"You really liked them that much? I didn't really make anything especially nice," except that ice cream container, she notes to herself, "but I'd be happy to work on a project with you, Anshi-chan. I think that would be a lot of fun!"
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"I'm pretty sure they don't care as long as you show up once in a while," Anshi says to Madoka as she leans on the desk she's borrowed. She seems to have stopped eating, though whether that is out of some misappointed politeness or because she's full isn't clear.
"I think we should do something, though," Anshi agrees. "I wish we could have done more this year, but I was so busy, and I just didn't make it nearly enough. Next year I'll do better, though," she promises.
Then Anshi gets a sly little grin and leans in, "So tell me about what you're going to do for Agera-san. He's so dreamy. I can't believe how incredibly lucky you are to be dating him, Madoka-chan. What are you going to do for Christmas? Have you two kissed, yet?"
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
"You're right. I probably shouldn't worry about it so much, but I haven't been very active in clubs at all ever since I started volunteering," Madoka replies. She started volunteering at the hospital almost as soon as she moved back to Tokyo, but she's thinking about how active she was back at Mitakihara Elementary.
"I'd like that, Anshi-chan." She offers a bright smile and adds with a tone of optimism, "We'll have all winter to think up something good for when school starts again in the spring." Madoka is very good at finding the silver lining in most situations.
She eats while Anshi asks about her plans, and has to actually slow down a bit so she doesn't choke. The forwardness of it catches her off guard. It's not a bad thing, but most of her friends think her choice of boyfriends is terrible. She's not used to hearing enthusiasm and interest in her love life!
"Ahh, well, um... I'm just planning on finishing something that got interrupted before." She giggles a little and peeks out of the corner of her eye towards some of the boys Takashi hangs around, "I can't tell too much, because someone might be listening and spoil the surprise!" Her head then shakes very fast, twintails tickling her cheeks, "N-no! Nothing like that! Not yet, anyway..."
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi giggles at Madoka's blush, and reaches up to very gently pinch the girl's cheek--but only very gently. "You have the most adorable blush," she tells the pink-haired girl excitedly.
Leaning forward, Anshi eyes Madoka excitedly, "Do you want to kiss him?" she asks in a conspiratorial whisper. "I bet he's a really good kisser. For a booknerd, he seems like he's totally one of the weird cool guys. I'm so jealous, Madoka-chan."
Anshi follows Madoka's gaze towards the other boys, then grins and drops her voice to a whisper. "What's the big secret? C'mon you can tell me. I won't tell him, I promise," she says. "Just whisper it quietly in my ear. No one will hear."
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka lets out an embarrassed but playful whine when her cheek is pinched, and when her blush is pointed out to her she asks, "W-what?!" with a stammer, her face turning positively red. But really, it's kind of nice to be teased about -this- problem. She feels a little like Hitomi, for a moment.
More grilling, and she bites her bottom lip. If she hadn't just eaten lunch one might almost think she was hungry with how she chews on it. "A-anshi-chan!" After that scandalous remark she looks down, fidgeting with her fingers before peeking up shyly through her eyelashes, "I think so... but I'd rather have him try to kiss me."
As she's pressured Madoka turns her pink eyes over to the boys for a moment, and then back to Anshi. She struggles to think of what to do. She actually wouldn't mind telling her if the others weren't around... but she also doesn't want to give in to that kind of pressure when she already said no once. "Um... I've spent a lot of time on it, so I really don't want any chance of ruining the surprise. Sorry, Anshi-chan..." she says in a suddenly quiet, apologetic voice.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"It's totally okay," Anshi says, not even fased by the second denial. She also doesn't press the point any further; pressing once is as far as 'fair game' goes for her. "It's too bad we'll be gone for the whole winter; I'm going to spend the whole time wondering what happened between you two."
She sighs a little dramatically, then stares at one of the boys nearby dreamily. "I wish I had a boyfriend," she admits to Madoka. "But I don't have time for that. Still, it's nice to dream." She smiles at Madoka, then reaches up to squeeze the girl's hand gently. "I should probably go study for the next final. Trigonometry is not my best subject," Anshi admits with a little grimace. "But thank you so much for sharing your lunch. It was delicious. Please tell your father I said so, okay?"
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka blinks a little, realizing for the first time that not seeing the other girl at school means not being able to find out how things happened. "It doesn't have to be like that!" she says a bit too loudly. She leans forward in her chair, turning her hand over when Anshi's squeezes it and taking it in her own for a few moments. "Just because classes are out doesn't mean we can't talk. I can give you my phone number, and if you want I we can meet up to talk about boys and craft projects."
She giggles a little then and nods, "It is very nice having a boyfriend, especially one that really likes you. Even if you don't think you have the time, you should still try to find a nice boy if you want a boyfriend, Anshi-chan. It's worth it even if you don't get to spend time together every day."
Her head nods gently then, giving her own worried smile. "It's very hard... but let's both do our best!" A bright smile is given when the food is complimented again, "I'll tell him! He'll be very happy you said so."
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
Anshi's eyes widen a little at the offer from Madoka. Friends, outside of school? Does she even have the time for that? She seems to hesitate just a moment, then offers Madoka a big, bright smile. "Okay," she agrees. "I don't have a cell phone, but if you give me your number I'll definitely call you some time this winter, and maybe we can find a time to go hang out."
Then, she gets even more forward, and gives Madoka a very sudden hug. "And next time I'll buy you lunch," she promises, before letting Madoka go.
- Madoka Kaname has posed:
Madoka returns the big smile, and when she says she doesn't have a phone she reaches into her bookbag for the notebook she's using to study for the test, tearing a corner off of one of the pages and writing her name and both her home and cell phone numbers down on it before handing it over to the girl. "I'm sure we'll be able to find a time we're both available, Anshi-chan!"
When the hug is given to her she blinks in surprise before a softer smile sets on her face, her arms moving around the other girl to squeeze her as she leans into the hug. "Really? Thank you! And I'll buy you the next one after that," the friendly girl offers in return, as if saying they definitely will be spending more time together in the future.
- Sachiko Hayakawa has posed:
"That sounds great," Anshi agrees with Madoka, as she takes the number. "Good luck on the rest of your finals today, Madoka. Do your best!" she encourages the other girl, then practically bounces off towards her own desk and pulls out her trigonometry book to remind herself of the material.
