Synopsis: | Iris Shelby has received an unconscious patient. The patient wakes up and is transfered to a different medical facility. |
Cast of Characters: | Iris Shelby, Tsubasa Kazanari |
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
Last night, after Walpurgisnacht, an unconscious and bleeding Tsubasa had been delivered to Shelby's appartment; the people doing so unsure who to contact or where else to bring her. The internal bleeding was severe, despite attempts to reduce it through both magic and first aid.
If Shelby has the means to look at the wounds, it's obvious that whatever inflicted these wounds was distributed throughout the body, and probably from an internal source. Most of her bones of hair fractures, multiple organs have taken serious damage, and many of her muscles are torn. This is severe.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
Iris was not at the main battle, but she was out fighting that evening. There were loose familiars to deal with, and they were the sort of thing she could handle while serving as part of disaster response. Still, once things began to slow down she had returned to her apartment...
...and was not all that surprised to see she has a new patient. Still transformed, she collapsed Valkyrie Wing from its magic staff mode into a handheld scanner and did a preliminary check. The monotone female voiced device quickly found most of those problems as it declared things like: <Alert! Doctor! Internal bleeding detected...> and rattling off lists of affected areas. Other problems were listed too, even as Iris then converted the scanner into a floating gurney suitable for lifting Tsubasa on to and bringing her into the apartment.
The interior is notably low class. All the furniture looks old, some of it has tears in armrests or cushions. The TV is bordering on obsolete, and plays local 'junk' fare shows. It is nonetheless to this living room that Tsubasa goes, brought to the couch and placed down on it.
With Tsubasa delivered, Iris converts Valkyrie Wing back to scanner mode and this time begins a more detailed check for where the bleeding is most severe, or any possible sources. "I can rule out the hair," she remarks to herself. "It's not red, so the bleeding hasn't gotten there. Or maybe that's just what your hair /wants/ me to think... maybe it's more clever than it lets on."
Tsubasa might not even be conscious to hear this nonsense. Iris does not seem to mind, regardless of whether her patient hears it or not.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
Tsubasa does not in fact hear this nonsense. The bleeding seems most severe around the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system, but it's strong everywhere. If it had been any worse, she'd already have been dead; and it ought to come as no surprise to anyone with medical expertise that she's not conscious.
At least a brain scan would reveal at least that there's no brain damage, or at least not enough to be noticeable. Considering the state of her body and the fact she's unconscious, the brain patterns are entirely normal, so that ought to be a good thing.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
Now Iris has enough information to go on. Rather, she has enough for priorities to form. "Got to make sure you don't choke to death first..." Her hands glow with a white light, hovering mere centimeters above Tsubasa's chest. The light drifts down, flowing into her patient in an attempt to work on cleaning up the lungs. Any sort of 'medical exploration' really has to wait until she at least has created some literal breathing room.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
And the unconscious magical girl coughs up some blood in response, clearing out some more blood to allow her to breathe more readily. The effort to clean up and heal the lungs is hampered by the net severy of the damage, but at least it's enough to stem the bleeding and allow some degree of healing to begin.
Stubborn as she is, after another cough, Tsubasa even wakes up, opening up her eyes and croaking out a weak and self-evident statement. "I'm... alive." She sounds like she's not entirely sure she can believe it, and it seems to cost her effort to keep her eyes open.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"Do you know why that is?" Iris pulls her hands back slightly to allow Tsubasa a little personal space. She's still working, but seems to be guiding the light across multiple places now... a general mending. "It's because you're very special to someone," she says this with an immediate smile.
"Who, I don't know, because you were here when I got back. I'm Dr. Iris Shelby," she looks a little young to be a doctor, "And this is my completely illegal medical practice for people needing someone who understands that 'I fell down the stairs. Again. In a building with no stairs' is really code-speak for 'I fight monsters.' In other words,"
A nod to Tsubasa, "you're safe here. And if your safety requires that you were never here and I never saw you, you'll find I can have a really bad memory when it's necessary."
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
Tsubasa listens to Iris talk about what happened, or the parts of it she knows, and then starts mentioning a string of numbers. It's a phone number. "Call them." She says as firmly as she can manage, while still sounding weak and sore. She doesn't say anything else for a few seconds, closing her eyes but not quite yet falling back asleep, apparently just taking things as easy as she can. After a bit, there's another word. "Thanks."
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"I don't need your serial nu... oh." Iris rises, walking over to the nearby table. There are several cell phones on it, all of them bottom-end junk models that retailers are either desperate to get rid of cheap, or are outright meant to be disposable. "Okay, I'll do that. Let's see here..."
Beep beep boop. Fingers tap controls, and the call is placed. Her free hand goes to fetch a blanket, setting it over Tsubasa as she waits for a ring and answer.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
The person on the other end is some kind of bland voice answering solely with, "How can I help you?" The tone is such that it's clearly someone answering in a professional capacity rather than a private phone, which makes the lack of identification a bit more noteworthy.
Tsubasa for her part doesn't really respond to much, she doesn't have the energy to. "Ame no Habakiri." She says, and then grows silent once more. She can't muster saying much more right now, but at least she's stable.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
However, Iris /does/ have some identification to offer. It just doesn't make any sense. "Hello. This is Dr. Shelby's office," the caller ID did not back that claim up, "and I'm calling because someone with serious injuries was admitted here. She has blue hair and says her name is Thanks," Iris may or may not have heard the proper introduction during this phone call, "and gave me this number as her emergency contact."
Her gaze stays down on Tsubasa for now, with Valkyrie Wing's scanner mode set up nearby to keep tabs on vital signs.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
Vitals are rough but not currently doing anything unexpected considering the state Tsubasa is in. The person on the other hand of the phone seems to be pressing some buttons, "Thank you for contacting us, doctor Shelby. Please stand by while we come to pick her up." The amount of people who ought to have this number makes the little data Iris has given them enough to be fairly confident who the patient is. "Please provide us with the location of the patient." Impersonal but polite.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"You... don't even sound the least bit surprised," Iris notes. "Does this happen often? My clinic is at..." She rattles off some numbers and a street name, along with the apartment number. "And may I know who to expect will arrive for her? She'll need something stable to stay on, I'm not comfortable moving her any more than necessary." Iris has no idea if those coming for Tsubasa will be equipped to deal with that or not.
She does become curious in the meantime, letting Valkyrie Wing continue scanning as she tries to find out just how this happened. Internal bleeding with no immediately obvious cause, that's how it looked to Iris at first glance.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
"Expect a medical helicopter painted black. Thank you for your assistance." That's when the other side of the line hangs up the phone, clearly that's all the answers they intend on giving. Valkyrie Wing may or may not, depending on the capabilities of its diagnostics package, be able to tell that the cause is some kind of magical overload; using more magic than Tsubasa's body is capable of handling without backlash.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"What!? No, I can't have helicop--" Too late. Iris is going to have helicopters. This introduces a problem, because her livelihood relies on having some kind of stable place to work from without too many people noticing. Helicopters at the apartment complex are liable to get the landlord asking questions.
Thus, medical exploration is cut short. "Residual magic all over, not just in the Linker Core... I'll have to find out more later."
She sighs, converting Valkyrie Wing back to 'hover gurney' form and loading Tsubasa onto it once more. Intent on not having helicopters in the parking lot, she begins to take Tsubasa outside and into the air... hoping to meet the black helicopter in mid-flight for a transfer. "Apparently someone really, /really/ cares about you if they have their own air service for this sort of thing, Thanks." A short laugh follows as she makes that quip to her patient.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
"Sorry." Tsubasa understands the necessities of secrecy, and thus does seems to realize why this may be a big deal. Otherwise, she doesn't complain or say a thing, taking as much rest as she can. Besides, speaking hurts. The chopper that arrives fairly quickly is manned by a small team, including a tall, muscular red-haired, red-goateed man wearing a red suit with pink tie.
As soon as they notice the floating Tsubasa and export, they redirect course there. "Thank you." The red-haired man's voice is distinctly different from the person on the other side of the phone. For one thing, he's showing emotion and concern both. The chopper floats in mid-air while the others, looking the part of the typical Man in Black, wordlessly open up the well-equipped chopper for patient transfer.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"That's an unusual name... Thanks Sorry. Doesn't sound local." Iris willfully misinterprets Tsubasa's name, amusing herself with this. She shifts around in the air, trying to keep steady as a helicopter meets her... and is very careful about loading Tsubasa in.
"You're welcome, Mr. Sorry!" Iris is all smiles about this. "I hope your daughter will be safe and sound now. For future reference, please don't bring hardware like this to my front lawn. I'll get evicted if my landlord finds out, and my next home would probably be a cardboard box. For her sake, and my other patients' sakes, we'll need to show a little more discretion from here on, please?"
Even talk of winding up homeless doesn't seem to dissipate her smile, oddly enough. Like it's something to joke about, rather than a realistic prospect she risks in doing her work in this odd way.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
"She's not my daughter." The man in red says, with an amused smile; and hands Iris a business card. "Call me if you need payment." And then without much more ado, the men in black prepare to move on, closing the chopper when Tsubasa has been loaded in, and the tall man just takes another moment to say. "We'll keep that in mind." It's not a very solid promise, but he seems to understand. "Sorry."
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"Well, I was going to follow up on that /later/ once your niece," Iris simply moves on to the next ridiculous cold-call guess at Tsubasa's relation to this red-suited man, "was all well... but it sounds like you really are familiar with this."
She has to wonder why, floating back to give the helicopter some space while inspecting the card he offered. "So I'll call you in a few minutes with my diagnosis and then tomorrow we can discuss billing. You have a good night, Mr. Sorry Not-Sorry!" She even waves to the helicopter, inwardly hoping to generate some kind of reaction from the 'MIBs'. She doesn't expect to succeed, but it's a fun self-imposed challenge on the spur of the moment.
- Tsubasa Kazanari has posed:
The only reaction the MIBs give is starting to fly off into the distance. The red-suited man doesn't stop them or engage in other conversation, not even discussing the accuracy of the next guess regarding his relationship to his niece. If Iris calls later, she'll find out he's willing to over good payment but in exchange demands total secrecy, before shifting the phone to another member of Section 2, who is even more insistent on secrecy.
- Iris Shelby has posed:
"Aww." Iris is mock-disappointed that the suited professionals showed no reaction to her, already making plans for silly displays later on to challenge their resolve. Then she flies back, returning to her apartment to make that call with her own diagnosis... she can only guess the precise cause, but points out that residual magic all over, with no external cause putting it inside the patient, is abnormal. She hopes that information helps, and promises to pursue payment at a less critical time.
Secrecy? She can probably do that. She needs payment. For now however, the self-proclaimed doctor flops onto her couch and just... tunes the world out, tired as she settles in to watch late-night junk TV until she falls asleep.
