Synopsis: | In which Naru actually remembers to tell someone before going to Australia. |
Cast of Characters: | Naru Osaka, Kunzite |
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> There's a race this weekend. It's not a stupid impulse move when I've been training for a year, right?
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> That depends on what you've been training toward and whether the race matches it.
<TXT> Also whether the race in question includes mountaineering or firewalking. Not that you're Neil.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> It fits what I've been training towards. Even if I never actually picked a race that I was aiming at. And no mountains or fire. International travel, however.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Ah. Do you need any assistance convincing your mother?
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I'm 18 with a valid passport. I don't actually /need/ to convince her.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> 18 is not always a magic number. But JAL doesn't specify needing parental accompaniment to the gate at that point, true.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Exactly. I don't think she'll protest, but by rights, I can travel without her permission. The reality of my non-passport holding partner, however, is more challenging. (Also I will need to sort out how to ship my bike. I am not riding for over 180 km on bike that is not mine.)
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Difficult at this stage. More warning does help. Where is the race?
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Australia. Not awful for time zone. Bad for travel. (ie I can't pop through France.)
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Not easy for shipping or Kyouko, no.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Okay, bike can come on the plane with me, presuming I am travelling the boring old fashioned way. Which seems likely. Suggestions on how to explain that I'm popping over to Australia for the weekend to do mundanely stupid stuff to Kyouko welcome.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> You haven't - of course you haven't. Have you considered that wording?
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> It might well work. It is just a one day race.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> A day between it and the flight either side might be advisable, if available seats permit.
<TXT> Still, with Kyouko, direct is often best.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I can accept missing school on Friday, but Friday AND Monday feels pushing it.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Either you will be right or your calves will have a learning opportunity.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> It's only a 7 hr flight. (Okay, my legs are going to hate me.)
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> (Just a small amount. From the flight alone.)
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> The swim is fine. The run is fine. Even those two back to back are fine. It's the 180 km cycling before the 40 km run and then 7 hrs of sitting. Okay, perhaps Monday off school is wise.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> I imagine you'll be off school either way. On purpose might be less painful.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Spend a day seeing more than the course in Australia. I expect I wont do much touristing.
<TXT> So this sounds crazy but doable.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Which is generally your target area for these things.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> It's a pretty good baseline for most of our lives.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> I can't argue. Particularly given Kyouko's birthday.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Also mundane stupid, but with less travel time.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> In fairness, parts of that event required a great deal of intelligence and planning. Tragically misapplied, but a great deal of it.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I was skeptical, but it was awesome. And yes.. more planning than I expected too!
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> These events remind me to be grateful we have acquaintances who enjoy putting them together.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Left up to us, there'd be social events of long runs in silence.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Which would prompt Neil, Kyouko, and Saburo all to explode, not necessarily in that order.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> And makes me think I should look for a wilderness race, or something along those lines for the summer.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> In Japan, or international?
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT > Japan, if we can find something good.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> I recall a few interesting ones.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> The one up the mountain is tempting. Crazy, but tempting.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> That was one of the interesting ones, yes. Wilderness here usually involves mountains.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Yep. Although the various mud races, or spartan races also appeal. I suppose I should survive Ironman first.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> If you die in Australia, you'll at least be spared research, yes.
<TXT> (Please do not die in Australia.)
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I have no plans to die in Australia. It's just a mundane race. It will be a long sweaty day with a lot of other tired sweaty people.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> At least it's almost winter there.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Should cut down on the sunburn potential. It should be a good race, if I pull off the logistics. I'm kinda excited.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> I'll start looking at the summer races. Logistics should not be the exciting part.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I'm pretty sure there's at least one Spartan race that came up when I was googling.
<TXT> You gonna race with me for a summer flavour of stupid?
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Possibly. If nothing else intervenes.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> Fair. All races subject to the potential of the world attempting to end again. We're in enough of a lull to be complacent. (Or I am at least.)
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> (a photo of a runner in a shark costume follows)
<TXT> The end of the world was not what I was thinking of, yes.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> <snicker> I'm not doing Ironman in costume. Shorter race, very tempting.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> I merely expect hostile action from within the apartment.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> The most hostile action in our apartment is Dog's GI tract after he's been eating junk. That dog can /stink/.
- Kunzite has posed:
<TXT> Perhaps I should be relieved you can't draw that. I understand chemical weapons are limited by international convention.
- Naru Osaka has posed:
<TXT> I've never tried drawing stink before. Mmm. Experiment time!
