Norie Okana walked down the hallway of the large two story apartment her father owned. She often did not come down this hallway anymore. It led to her brother’s room. Usually. The two made efforts to avoid each other. This meant her brother always took the long way around down the other hall and through the sitting up room upstairs. She just turned to the right from her room.
She closed her eyes and sighed and reached up to knock on the door.
“I’m busy.” came the voice of Ryo Okana. “Go away, Norie.”
“Stop trying to suffocate yourself on your ‘study partner’s’ mouth. We need to talk.”
Ryo could be heard flustering again and popped out- shutting the door behind her. “Stop that. You know mom and dad don’t want any of that in the house.” he snapped. Norie only rolled her eyes in frustration.
She frowned. “I want a moment of your time soon. To. Talk. When mom and dad aren’t here. To meet. One of my friends.” she says. “She… we… have. Something. To talk. About. Or. Something. Maybe...” she began to break down. Why was she even bothering.
Ryo merely narrowed his eyes. “You’ve got to be kidding me Norie. Speak straight for once in your god damn life.”
This did not help Norie’s frustration.
“Me and my friend want to talk to you about something.” she said flatly and deadpan, trying to suck as much emotion out of the statement as she could.
“I think that’s a lie.” he says leaning down into Norie’s face. “You don’t have any friends.”
Norie Okana began shaking a little. It was frustration. Why did she even bother. “I do.” she said as icily and deadpan as she could. It was the only thing she could do. Try to disassociate herself like she’s always done when she was trying not to cause an incident. “You know I do. And she and I want to talk to you. Her name is Rashmi Terios. Her family owns the curry place.” she says quietly. “You do know that shop down in Uminari?” she asks.
Ryo merely frowned. “Fine. Just. Give me a stupid time and I’ll meet your stupid friend.” he asked. A voice chimed from behind the door. “Hey Ryo?” asked the voice. “Everything okay?”
“Jeeze, everything is okay Sen, I’ll be back in a moment. Just my dumb sister.” he said. He looked back down to Norie with a frown. “I need to get back studying. Go do. Whatever it is you do nowadays.” he said as he closed the door.
Norie could only frown and stare at the door for a few minutes before she found the will to stop wanting to rip it apart and walk back to her room and close herself in for the rest of the night. Tonight was definitely a hide in the closet night.
