Date of Scene: 01 October 2019
Location: Text messaging
Synopsis: Naru's version of Inktober? Doesn't involve ink this year. And it gets an admission or two out of Kazuo.
Cast of Characters: Kunzite, Naru Osaka

Kunzite has posed:
OCTOBER 1: RING

TXT from Kunzite: <a careful linework drawing of an ornately heavy ring, set with a large stone in which is marked a half-abstract shape of curves that could be a running deer, or could be an undulating dragon>

TXT from Kunzite: You inspire habits.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT from Naru: Ooh, that's nice. Do you want to carve that up and see how it casts?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT from Kunzite: Someone did, quite a long time ago; I drew it from the image. You have the imaginative practice, I have the practical.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT Both are important. Riff on that theme and you'd make my mother very happy.

TXT: <A watercolour sketch, all airy and ethereal of the sun, and the solar flares forming a ring around it. The tendrils of light seem to almost dance and sway, radiating far beyond what would be scientific, and into echos of faces and fairy-esque forms amongst the abstracted swirls.>

TXT: Watercolour is so completely different to my norm.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I'd be interested to see if you can describe the difference.

TXT: Also to see the reactions if you displayed that piece.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: I usually work in ink, or oil. And those are immediate. They are solid, and firm and dark where you put them. Watercolour oozes and splooshes and builds up in layers and wanders off and you chase along after it.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Providing guidance rather than enforcing precision.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: I have to work with it, adapt and accept rather than inform the paint on what it is doing. It's probably good for me.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I can only imagine that you are undergoing an experience not unlike what happened when I was first introduced to Nephrite.

TXT: In which case I will assure you that the urge to maul an inanimate object does grow more manageable with time.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: My new sketchbook is grateful that it will feel less threatened (and hold onto more pages) with time.

TXT: I'm not sure if I love watercolour, but as much as inktober has ink right in the name, I'm turning left at that suggestion.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: It makes sense. Last year there was no challenge to keep your attention.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Exactly. I don't remember why I didn't do it last year, I wasn't kidnapped, possessed, evil or anything. Probably just bored. This year? It's an interesting challenge, if I change mediums.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: It will be interesting to see what happens, given your history with challenges. You run away with them in interesting directions.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: I'm currently in a lull of weird. Which is weird in an of itself.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Precious events. Or perhaps merely dull, depending on one's perspective.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT It's been long enough to have lost the shine of unusualness and settled into the mundane. Normal is the norm again, and that's .. vaguely disconcerting, in an odd way.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: For values of disconcerting that involve an unusual number of spears.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT No spears here! Only spears by proxy, but your point stands.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I am briefly disappointed that 'spear' is not a prompt this month.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: I was very careful not to look ahead beyond today. I tend to think about later in the month and not about today's prompt. So I am trying to keep surprises.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I shall use appropriate caution, then.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: It's not the end of the world either way.
Naru Osaka has posed:
OCTOBER 2: MINDLESS

TXT: <a photo send of the full page of a watercolour sketchbook. At first glance, it's just grey mist swirling across the page, but zooming in shows ghostly figures in that mist, most with snarling vicious expressions outlined in just slightly darker grey, giving the whole thing a sense of formless malice. At the bottom there's 3 small notes in ink: Naru's maker mark, #mindless #inktober>
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Am I correct in detecting a virtue being made of necessity?
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: If it's going to be a swishy pain in the arse, I'll paint swishy pain in the arses.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Also, I admire this. I've been unsuccessful in thinking up a subject that is neither a television nor Neil.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Also, the lack of preview on prompts lasted 'til Oct 2.

TXT: The first thrown away sheet were zombies. The second thrown away sheet was a doodle of a PS4. Watercolour doesn't doodle like that.

TXT: I'm glad I got a watercolour sketchpad of 100 sheets. I might make it through inkober.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Or else, you might have to improvise.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: I suspect Kyouko might comment if I use our apartment walls for inktober.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Not to mention that the watercolours would run.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT Watercolour on walls would suck, I should expect. Although interesting to try.

TXT The mural over at your guys' is still fine, right?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Nothing has detached itself lately. The shark wars left it unscathed.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Good. I hadn't noticed anything amiss, but I haven't necessarily been looking either.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: The kitchen being more interactive, in general.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT To my knowledge, I've never animated anything in the kitchen.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: That was not the kind of interactive I meant, but is nonetheless true.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: :innocent:

TXT Admittedly, text conversations are much less '... wtf' now that a) I dont randomly screw up my magic much and b) I no long have daily questions about our mutual society.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I have confidence that you will in time find somewhere other than watercolors to challenge yourself again.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Have you?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I've met you.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT More recently than that. What is your current challenge?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Gardening.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Beyond Fiore?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I have difficulty connecting to my magic. I have difficulty connecting my self firmly to my body. My palace remains near barren, dry and almost dead, and has no proper anchor to Earth. I am working on correcting these things. Self-repair is difficult and slow.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: It is difficult and slow. Gardening is good for patience, to let things grow and find root.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: A useful but aggravating symbol.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT What helps feed the connection?
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: If we could answer that reliably, artistic burnout and writer's block would be things of the past. (It is not the same, but related.)
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT So.. time with people we love, and sunsets and laughter, and good books and interesting people and places, even if those interesting places are just around the corner.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Connection feeds connection, yes.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT And in my case.. stress, but not too much stress.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: These things have helped. There is water there now, a little, and if I tend it regularly one courtyard has some green. But it is not what it was, and not enough to restore the place itself, let alone the land it once fed outside it.

TXT: Which may be just as well, given satellite imagery.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Nothing is ever as it was. That's sort of the point of growing and changing. You aren't trying to make it what it was, you are finding out what it will be.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: True. On my own I would be amenable to that. But Mamoru prefers healing as well.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT Wait.. how is that not healing?

TXT: When I break a leg, and it is not healed magically, but it does heal.. it is not identical to how it was before, but it is healed.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I have been working around what Mamoru considers longstanding damage for a very long time. The scar tissue, so to speak, is now interfering with my ability to function properly. We are working on the problem.

TXT: In your analogy: sometimes an improperly tended break heals badly, and can benefit from further care.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT So the physiotherapy stage of it all. Yeah, that's fair. It's still never identical. That's the bit I am stuck on.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: No. But restoring the structural capability for function is sometimes useful before resuming physiotherapy.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT The poor analogy is struggling. XD
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Then let's say that we are not trying to produce an identical result; we are attempting to restore a lacking capacity.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT That's fair.  I don't think I can help, or rather.. I dont have any idea how to help, but I wouldnt mind visiting the bits of green if I may.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: You are more than welcome to visit.

TXT: After all, there should be a door from Kyouko's somewhere.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT Opening random doors in Kyouko's palace is.. interesting.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: I'd suggest asking the rat for directions, but I'm not sure even I can say that with a straight face.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT I do rather like the rat, although he (understandably) prefers Kyouko to me.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Some of them are like that.

TXT: After a while, the realization that they're stuck with us but you have other options may begin to set in.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT I dont visit anywhere terribly often these days. Not even Jadeite's tree
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: That's a pity. You do better when you take up more space.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT I went and took up space in the mundane world a while. I've a medal and everything, but it feels unbalanced.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: Then you are all the more welcome to visit.
Kunzite has posed:
OCTOBER 3: BAIT

TXT: <a lightweight and somewhat squiggly sketch of a handful of suspiciously familiar tubes and a few brushes and pens lurking in front of an open bag of flour>
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: Is that a hint? Cause it's a good one.
Kunzite has posed:
TXT: It seemed appropriate for today's prompt.
Naru Osaka has posed:
TXT: <A bright blue sky, sunny day clearly, and an urban streetscape. Casually brushed in, more suggestions than the realism that's usually in her work. A person, nondescript just loitering upon that street and hints of darkness approaching. What's down one of the alleys is an attempt at a detailwork of .. probably someone, or something, but the medium is not well suited.>

TXT: I hate watercolour. I might redo it.
