Synopsis: Naru and Maki debate and discuss art and tactics for wall painting over ice cream smoothies.
Cast of Characters: Naru Osaka, Jiaying Maki

Naru Osaka has posed:
Another day of school. Another lovely day potentially wasted by being another day of school. At least the sunshine and warmth have continued into afterschool, to make hanging out in an arcade and dessert shop possibly not a fabulous idea for those hoping to enjoy the lovely weather.

Naru has taken over a table, with a brilliantly coloured ice cream smoothie sitting ignored next to her as she doodles in a new looking sketchbook. The place is busy, although not quite yet a zoo as it will probably become a little later.
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki makes her way upstairs, a sudden craving for something sugary and awful for her striking fiercly during the last hour of her school day. While she doesn't find the school thing a waste of time, she is rather bored. She's at least wearing the correct school uniform finally! Still, she makes her way through the crowds and survives the line long enough to order a shake with a multitude of flavors that might sound.. off. The person taking her order certainly seemed to think so guessing by the look on her face.

Still, taking her shake and taste testing it with a bit of a grin, she then makes her way towards the tables, spotting one table occupied by someone sharing a uniform, all alone and doodling in a sketchbook. She considers quietly to herself for a moment before stepping over to the table where she offers a cheerful smile and asks curiously, "What are you drawing?" before stopping to murmur to herself, "That was rude.." and adds more audibly, "Sorry, I was just curious!"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Oh!" Naru glances up as she's asked, and there's no offense upon her face. There's a smile as she moves her hand a little to show the drawings on the page. "No, no. I don't mind. I don't think it was rude either. I'm always curious too when I see someone drawing."

The page has a general outline of what looks like a wall, with the doors and windows drawn in pen. Her doodles, mostly vines and foiliage are done in pencil, as she works out how to make it fit and look right.

"Are you an artist too?" Naru asks, gesturing a little towards one of the empty seats at the table.
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki takes the offered seat, taking a moment to eat more sugary deathmix before then fishing around in her satchel. She sets her own sketchbook down and says, "I am! Kinda. Uh.. I like drawing at least?" She opens the little sketchbook and offers it over to the other girl. Her name is written in traditional Chinese on the cover so it may not read quite right, but she offers at the same time, "I'm Maki by the way! What is your name? If that's alright."

She busies herself with her phone for a moment, probably updating someone on what she's up to and not totally distracting herself for handing that book around. The book itself has a mixture of art that looks like she's a definite horror fan, full of monsters and ghosts and the like. There are also what look like rough sketches of spell tags that she's scribbled out and other things. She actually looks embarassed at those.
Naru Osaka has posed:
"You like drawing, and you have a sketchbook. I think that makes you an artist." Naru declares as she takes the sketchbook, and in the interest of fair play in vulnerability, nudges hers over to Maki if she might wish to peek more closely than just the page Naru is on.

"I'm Naru Osaka.. just Naru really. I think we go to the same school." She smiles easily as she flips through the pages curiously. "Wow, these are really cool. Either you have a great imagination, or you see some nasty stuff." She points at one of the rough sketches of spell tags. "What's this?"
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki offers a brief shrug and says, "I always figured an artist was.. a uh." She pauses, quietly thinking, "Professional? I am a hobbyist." Squirming in her seat a touch though as Naru flips through her book, she decides to distract herself. First with another sip of her shake, then flipping through Naru's book all curiouslike. As almost an afterthought though, she says, "Uh, Jiaying Maki's my full name."

She does spend a few moments admiring some of the plantlife, especially if there are any Camellia flowers. Though at the comments from Naru she looks up and blushes just a touch, "I uh.. imagination. Yes! Why would you think I'd seen that kind of thing?" Totally not suspicious. At least she has a good lie for the tags, "Oh those are uh.. you see the monsters, some of them have them as part of the design so I wanted them to look right!" Totally wasn't practicing speed or accuracy. No ma'am.
Naru Osaka has posed:
There is just a quirk of a skeptical brow at the blushes and the attempt to dissuade from the potential of drawing from example rather than reality. Naru mmms softly, not really buying it. "It's amazing what goes on in Tokyo, that so many people just never notice really. I never noticed until not so long ago. Almost like whole other communities, right under the noses of so many of us who live here. The comment is casual, and could mean oh so very many things, depending on who might be listneing.

Naru's sketbook has a lot of plants. A lot of different plantlife. One page that has a sketch of a milkshake glass, as realistically rendered as she could manage. People, done in little cartoons, mostly classmadtes and a lot of Usagi in chibi form.
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki hesitates at the milkshake glass, being kind of the odd picture out. Flipping it around and holding it up, she asks curiously, "Too many days here?" Though at the comment about Tokyo being weird, she eventually just shrugs and says, "Every big city has it's quirks I am sure. There's a lot of things going on just beneath the surface." She started to say something else, then shrugs it off, flipping further into the book and noticing a trend in the person being drawn repeatedly, albeit all super deformed! "Someone special?" another honest question and a better change of topics than she'd usually pull off. Maybe.

In her book, there are all sorts of mythological sorts, though there are a few pictures of the lunar rabbit, a few of what she thinks Nuwa would look like, a couple of pictures of what looks like a ghost... posing. With the hints of a stuffed animal at the bottom and a page dedicated to a cutely drawn fox.
Naru Osaka has posed:
A little lean over the table to see which pictures Maki has questions about and Naru giggles softly. "That was a rough conversation, and the glass was a really good distraction while Kunzite and Usagi and I talked, it does look odd amongst everything else, doesn't it?" She points then to the chibi figure and her smile is fond. "Usagi. She's been my bestie basically forever, so there's a lot of pictures of her. The stupid little doodles of her all anime style are easier in class than a real drawing."

"This little fox is basically adorable." Naru declares as she points at the page of foxes. "You're good!" She notes as she nudges the notebook back to its proper owner.
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki offers the book in return, a hostage trade if you will. She flips through the book quickly, pausing on the fox. She kind of glances around and snaps the book shut after. Taking her book back, it gets stuffed into her bag carefully, then she rests her elbows on the table, propping her chin up on her hands with a smile. "Kunzite is an odd name isn't it? Where is it from?"

"You're better than I am with uh.. like plants and stationary things. I'm awful at backgrounds and still lifes.. lives? Bowls of fruit." She laughs softly, drags her shake over and begins to drink from it for an extended amount of time.
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I don't know where Kunzite got his name from, to be honest.. as much a nickname as anything, I suppose." Naru smiles and gives a little shrug of acceptance. "He might be cross with me for calling him by it to others, he's got stern down pat."

Naru reaches for her brilliant coloured ice cream smoothie, forgotten for long enough to be runny and sips from the straw. "I practice. A lot. A lot more with the vines and stuff right now because a friend commissioned me to do a mural in his apartment. Although I may need to double check with him if he still wants vines, and plants.. all things considered, but I'll paint something for him and his roommates." She flips to the page with the wall and the drawings on top of it. "That's what I'm doing here. Trying ideas out without having to do them at wall size yet."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki shakes her head and says dryly, "A bit of an odd nickname for a guy." With a shrug, she stirs the remnants of her shake with her straw and says, "I'm familiar with stern. You talk to some of the older sp-sorts and they get all formal and stiff. One of them complained that my Chinese wasn't proper." She sticks her tongue out and mutters to herself before quickly changing away from that line of thought.

Looking at the book on the other side of the table, she asks, "So kind of like a thumbnail? Just seeing what works and what doesn't? I'd be intimidated to try and paint the whole wall if it were me, but... it would be fun." Her head tilts and she asks quickly, "Wait are you doing it with like, brushes or with spray cans? I've always wanted to try the spraycan kind."
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I seem to meet a lot of odd people." Naru answers with a little giggle. "Mostly good odd, some just odd odd." She quirks her head, curious. "Is your family part Chinese?" She asks.

"Exactly. Seeing what works and what doesn't." Naru nods in agreement and then shakes her head. "I've never used spraycans.. so I'd planned on using brushes. The spraycans do look fun though. Those things in your book, the tags.." She gestures towards the put away sketchbook. "You don't do those with a spraycan?"
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki shifts in her seat, getting comfortable as she crosses her legs. Cheerily she offers, "Good odd is goo... that sounds awful. I Like odd, you get to meet so many strange and wonderful people." Whether they're alive or not. At the question about her family, she shakes her head a touch quickly and says, "I'm not from the mainland! I've got some older family members that were, but they're grouchy." And ethereal, not that she admits that.

Still, at the mention of art, she grins while asking, "Are you going to go with base coats and all of that, or.. just like, stretch canvas across the wall?" The question about her spell tags gets another quick shake of her head and she says, "I do those with a brush and ink usually. I like calligraphy too!"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I think grouchy is a trademark of older family members." Naru agrees with a little giggle and another nod. "That is kinda neat, though, to have that connection."

"The plan is to base coat and then paint right on the walls." Naru mmms a little. "They've done a whole lot of renovations lately, so the walls are really boring and plain and mostly primer, really. I should get some base coats on before the guys mess up the walls, come to think of it." She hunhs softly and then ooohs. "I've never learned much in the way of calligraphy. It's so pretty though."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
"Grouchy is a trademark of my extended family in general" She offers a touch dryly. Leaning back in her chair, she looks up at the ceiling and laughs softly, offering "It is kind of neat though, yeah. I mean, not many people get to have the... opportunity to meet their ancestors. Uh, figuratively of course"

After, Jiaying rubs her chin, still watching the ceiling as she says, "What are you going to use for texture? They make that.. textured paint, but I bet you could use the canvas stretched across or something similar to make it easier and less... time consuming?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Well. Not only is it at a friend's place, but it's at my bestie's boyfriend's place." Naru gives a little twisted smile. "So I don't actually mind it potentially kinda taking forever, because it's a fun place to hang out, and this gives me something to do while I'm there."

She hunhs softly, as if thoughts are occuring to her. "I'd thought on just doing shadow and texture in the painting.. but.. stretched canvas.. I could do like.. three dimensional bits. That would be SO COOL!"
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki drums her fingers against her chin and asks, "Wait, is she dating older or does he just live alone?" She peers at her empty shake mug sadly then suddenly asks, "Do you want another?" Gesturing to the drink. She seems hungry still.

Though at the follow up, she stops and grins, "That would be neat too, I was just thinking I'd hate to have to use gauche on an entire wall... but that's probably not the right kind of mindset is it?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"She's dating older, and he lives with a swack of housemates. It's surprising how many people aren't living with their parents. I feel like the odd one out more often than not." Naru considers her smoothie glass and then shakes her head. "Thank you, but I'm alright for now."

Naru giggles softly. "I'm planning on using boring wall primer that you get at the hardware store, and acrylic paints, because I'm going to need a lot. Way more than I'd want to use gauche for. This is a bit more rough and tumble than that sort of formal. I think it'll work still."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki nods slowly and says, "Neat?" before laughing and adding, "I live with my father! I think. That's the rumor anyway, he's not home a lot. Not while I'm awake" or home for that matter herself. She takes her own glass and rolls it between her hands, consdering quietly if she wants to burn more pocket money or not.

She nods at the suggested paints and asks, "Are you going to seal it with matte.. varnish?" She scowls, realizing she can't remember if that's the right term or not. Oh well.
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I live with my mother. She works all the time, and I'm not home much either, so we mostly leave notes for each other." Naru smiles as she points out the reality for most of Japanese schoolchildren.

"I found this spray sealer stuff at the art store, that I want to try in a section and see how it holds up." Naru explains with a grin, delighted about being able to talk details with someone. "I think it'll be easier than the brush on stuff. I just want it to be able to hold up to getting bumped and possibly wiped now and then. I mean, I dont expect the guys to be scrubbing the walls all that often."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki gives up and sets the glass aside, she doesn't need more sugar yet. She's sure for the next five minutes at least. Looking back to Naru she nods slowly and offers a wry shrug, "What can you do?" in response to the notes, something she's familiar with too. Texting at least makes some of it easier since she's flighty sometimes.

"For the mural, that's the right word right? You're going to be painting it green, how dark? Is it opposite the window? I wonder how it's going to affect the lighting in the room with that kind of thing..."
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Mostly greens, although I'm trying to decide if it's just going to be all greenery, or if I want to introduce other elements into it. Like castles, or stars or something." Naru gestures a little with her hands, still envisioning it all. "The apartment has huge windows. I could paint the walls black and it would still have great light, but I dont want it to be just green. I'm starting ot think of putting a tree in the corner though. With lights. I wonder if Mamo would kill me for doing that. I should probably ask him first."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki nods at the suggestion of greens and the like, then asks curiously, "Maybe try a different kind of forest? There's a few out there I'm sure have splashes of whites, greys and browns right?" She's not sure if they're all in the same place, but it's an idea. Though at the mention that they're huge windows and all, she nods and adds, "Though with that in mind, maybe the darker would work. It would be all moody though wouldn't it?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Well.. so.. there's five guys who live there." Naru comments as she doodles a little in her book. "So I was thinking of trying to have different trees and foiliage around each of their doors, kinda to make it more theirs." She chews on her bottom lip a little. "I'm just not sure I can actually pull it off without it looking dumb."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki drums her fingers and looks towards the door, chasing thoughts around her head. "It's five guys, just paint it like a swamp?" She grins toothily for a moment, then quickly resumes a neutral lok while adding a little more helpfully, "Maybe base it around animals rather than different trees? Might look a little less jarring maybe."
Naru Osaka has posed:
Naru laughs brightly. "At least one of them is a neat freak, and there's enough visitors who have no qualms about just overhauling the kitchen, that it's not so bad. There might be a whole ecosystem on the walls though."

"A swamp around one door, and have it come up to more pastoral around another, and then to a forest... this might be more than I can manage!" Naru laughs easily. "But Wow, it would be so cool. Start with a starry sky up by the ceiling in one corner, and just make it evolve through all different terrains over the walls and around.. okay.. I might need to actually try this.. on paper."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki continues drumming her fingers, blurting out, "Do the rough on paper so you can set them up like a box kinda? That way you can see what it looks like, would look like sort of?" She's still smiling happily as she adds, "Though that might not show any problems with angles or the like. Uuh, could take a picture and try painting it directly maybe? Do it as an overlay at different times of the day?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Oh! Oh that's a great idea!" Naru beams in delight at this notion. "A little bigger than my sketches in my book, but so that I can set it up like the apartment and actually see' it!" She squeals happily. "You're brilliant! Oh that's awesome. I might have to do that tonight, see if I can take it over, at least a prototype to Endy's place tomorrow."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki tilts her head in confusion and asks, "Endy? Thought it was someone else?" She seems actually kind of confused and all. She's eyeing her milkshake again. She holds a finger up and scoops the glass up, making her way towards the counter to order herself something a little more mundane, strawberries and nothing else before hurrying back over. Scooting in closer against the table, "Could do it with like.. a projector too you know? Project the forest on the walls if you've got one. That would be... probably too small actually. Nevermind, you'd need like, magic you know?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Nicknames again." Naru looks sheepish at the confusion. "I am pretty sure that just about everyone I know has at least two names that get used for them, sometimes fairly interchangably. It makes for a whole lot of puzzles when you first meet people and they aren't using the name that you were introduced to them as."

Naru laughs softly. "I am, alas, utterly mudane. Not a bit of magic to me, and I don't know anyone who does art magic. That would be really cool though." She speaks of magic as if it is perfectly possibly, or perhaps she's just got an excellent imagination. "I think I'm okay with free handing it, I think. A lot of pencil sketching first, although a projector would let me get the proportions right off the top. Hunh."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
The newly sugar satiated girl raises an eyebrow at that as she sips at her shake-smoothie-thing. "I thought it was mostly the Koreans that did two names" teasing just a touch, "Though I will admit I've run into a lot of strange people out here since we've moved here. Including apparently a uh.. what's the word. Ugh." She shakes her head and says under her breath something about pixies. Maybe.

Looking to Naru after her mind's finished wandering off track, she grins and says, "That might be a neat idea too, add splashes of color and light in with like.. mist. Or fog you know? Misty woods are nice. Uh, the projector though! I bet we could find one. I could find one maybe. I don't know about the magic, that might be a bit harder." To do that is. Jiaying's never really tried!
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Pixie?" Naru picks up on the muttered word. "Or fairy?" She offers as an alternative. "I'm not sure if they're different." She digs out a pencil, and turns a page in her sketchbook to start writing rather then drawing, little notes to remind herself of some of the ideas they've been brainstorming.

"Misty woods, castles off in the distance perhaps.. I might need more wall. But I have lots of wall, but this could be a forever paint job, and that would be fairly spectacularly awesome." Naru grins at the idea. "Start off with the big picture, and I could just keep adding little details to it everytime I'm over there and have some time."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki shakes her head and says, "Not that word, the guy that had I ran into had a label attached and that's the word I forgot. People want to hit him though!" She says that last bit cheerily like it doesn't worry her, though immediately after she scowls and adds, "Should probably look into that actually." Watching the other girl write, she asks curiously, "A forever paintjob? Like just keep updating it as soon as you finish? Isn't there a bridge somewhere that they do that with?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"Hunh. I've never heard of pixies. I mean, other than in stories." Naru amends with a curious little noise and she mmms softly. "Was he trying to do bad things to people?" She speculates on why people were trying to hit him.

"Yeah. Updating it as soon as I finish, more.. adding to it. Like an eternal doodle, or treasure hunt. See what new things get added." Naru uhhs softly. "I don't know about a bridge, but that sounds cool."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki shrugs and says honestly, "I don't know for sure, never confirmed. I've never met a pixie either though. They're.. mostly Ouzho-..European right? I want to meet one, they're probably neat. The person I met talked about eggs too mind you." She doesn't really understand it and is still convinced she somehow ate hers after his story if it was true. Still.

Looking down at her shake, she laughs and says, "You'd have to strip it down eventually or it would start shrinking the apartment right?"
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I can't imagine they're going to stay there that long!" Naru laughs and shakes her head. "Besides, I'm not that fast a painter. I've got some time before it all starts caving in."

"Eggs?" Naru asks and then there's a little hunh and a shrug. "Weird. There's a lot of weird."
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki grins and says, "It also depends on how many layers of paint and how thick you're painting it!" She drains at least half of her milkshake in one go after that and peers inside the glass before murmuring, "Should really stop doing this, it can't be healthy." At the question of eggs, her head looks back up and she nods, "Yeah he mentioned eggs and stuff. It was very weird."
Naru Osaka has posed:
"I think as long as you don't end up with Daisuke level milkshake drinking, you're probably safe." Naru giggles softly, lifting her hand to move across, indicating a whole row of empty glasses after a spree.

"Just teeny layers, acrylic paint is pretty thin. This isn't oil paint! That would be crazy." Naru laughs a little at the idea.
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki shrugs and says cheerily, "I have no idea who Daisuke is, but uh, I can imagine if you're not exaggerating" She gestures to the.. gesture. Still, Jia rests her chin on her hand again and adds playfully, "I've seen some pretty thick acrylic, especially if you spend a lot of time looking up badly painted models online. You get some of those anime statues that look like they were just dipped in paint. Thick paint."
Naru Osaka has posed:
"He was all stressed over his grades, and I think he was chain-drinking them, because somehow excessive sugar will totally relax you about your grades." Naru laughs and shakes her head. "He seems really nice though, I've only met him a couple of times."

Naru wrinkles her nose at the mention of badly painted models. "Those are AWFUL. Ugh. You can barely tell who they're trying to be!"
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki nods and grins, "It looks like a cheap knock off of a cheap knock off, all deformed and slathered in paint and ugh!" She stirs the shake a few times with the straw and takes another long pull from it. "Hmph, I don't worry about my grades too much, I have other things I have to worry about! And.. I have a high metabolism so I need it! Really!" Still, her second shake is out and it's getting later in the afternoon. She fishes around in that pack and pulls out a scrap piece of paper and writes a number out, then slides it over to Naru, "We should totally eat awful food again sometime. With more pencils next time."
Naru Osaka has posed:
"We totally should!" Naru agrees as she takes the slip of paper and then tears a page from her sketchbook to scribble her number down and slide it over in return. "We can do some sketching together, and actually practice. That would be great!" She beams. "Nice to have met you Maki. See you at school perhaps?"
Jiaying Maki has posed:
Jiaying Maki nods and fishes out her phone to put the paper away before it gets swallowed in the depths of her bag. The phone then gets shoved into the bag unceremoniously. She grins cheerily at Naru though and says, "Yes! Totally, I'll bring some colored pencils or markers too. And yeah, seeya at school!"
