Sidetrip for Donuts
Date of Scene: 17 July 2015
Location: Pikarigaoka - Kaoru's Donuts
Synopsis: What better snack after a long day than a donut?
Cast of Characters: Shiori Sato, Ikiko Hisakata

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
It's late afternoon, and the temperature is a bit lower today than it had been during the week -- not by a whole lot, but enough so that it's merely "warm" instead of "scorching".

With the relative coolness, fresh donuts seem like a much more reasonable snack! Kaoru's Donut Stand is doing brisk business, with several people sitting on nearby benches while they eat donuts with friends.

One of the few people sitting by themselves is Ikiko, who appears to be resting her feet while she nibbles at a donut. Two bags rest next to her, and she seems to be thinking about something.

Shiori Sato has posed:
Late evening is a good time for donuts, yes, because it's later in the day. Heavier things are okay now, because most of the day's activities are done. So no heavy donuts in the tummy preventing one from doing things due to that 'full' feeling. So, with all of his homework and chores for the day done, Shiori heads for the donut shop to get something sweet and entirely not at all healthy for him! Something with WAY too much powder sugar on it.

He is taking a big bite of this donut with entirely too much powdered sugar on it when he happens to notice Ikiko. He pauses in mid-bite, and blinks. Then he realizes what an utter /mess/ he is! So he takes a napkin and starts brushing the powdered sugar off the front of his shirt. Just his luck he happened to wear a light colored t-shirt and black jeans. In fact, the shirt is pink. Not a bright, offensive neon pink. A subtle, pastel tea-rose pink.

Once he's suitably cleaned up, he heads in Ikiko's direction. "Hello," he offers politely. He doesn't approach too close initially; she looks like she's deep in thought and he doesn't want to startle her too much.

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko blinks slightly as a semi-familiar voice greets her. Looking over, it takes her a moment to recognize the face -- last time she saw it, there was an animal shelter uniform involved.

"Hi, Shiori!" she smiles, moving over slightly to free up some additional space on the bench. "How have you been? Seat's available if you want it."

At this range, it's easier to tell that one of the bags has several metal bowls in it, while the other bag has what appears to be a mostly-empty bag of dog food inside.

Shiori Sato has posed:
Shiori smiles when Ikiko recognizes him, and nods. "Not too bad," he replies, taking the offered seat. "Thanks!" To note, he does still have a bitten-into donut in his hand. He notes the bags' content but doesn't ask about it just yet.

Continuing his earlier statement, "Yeah, things have been pretty good with me. Can't complain. How about you?"

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko takes another quick bite of donut as she shrugs. "Been keeping busy with club stuff," she remarks, nodding towards the bags. And it /is/ true that's she's been busy with stuff under the club's auspices...

A wide smile crosses her face. "Glad that the first school term ends in half a week, though," she adds with a grin. "Time for a break!"

Shiori Sato has posed:
Shiori nods as he continues eating his donut too. Once he can do so withotu talking with his mouth full, he answers, "Oh I know. It's impossible to think properly when it's that hot. I swear my brain's frying sometimes. Like you could crack an egg on my head and get a perfect, if rather hairy, sunny side up fried egg."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"At least it's not hot enough to hardboil it in water!" Ikiko giggles. She goes to take another bite of donut, but the image of the contents of an oversized egg being dumped on Shiori's head to cook causes her to giggle even more.

"Sorry, just had a silly thought," she smiles as she finally gets the giggles under control. "Still working at the animal shelter?"

Shiori Sato has posed:
"No, then we'd have a lot of parboiled students in gym class," Shiori points out. It's summer, so swimming classes are a thing, right? "Well, moreso than usual, when they forget to put sunscreen on."

The question about the shelter gets a nod. "On and off," Shiori replies. "I'm just a volunteer there, and sometimes I just have too much homework. Or, I freely admit, sometimes because I'm just feeling too lazy, with this heat."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko nods understandingly -- with this heat, sometimes it feels like the best thing to do is to sit around in the shade and not do much. It's what a lot of her canine friends have been doing, after all! It's part of why she happens to have leftover dogfood today; because of the heat, they haven't been as hungry lately. She did make sure that they had enough to drink; it's part of why she's here as late as she is instead of being closer to home.

"Just wait -- come winter, we'll be wishing we could have saved some of this heat," she notes with a small laugh.

Shiori Sato has posed:
Shiori laughs. "Definitely. We'll be complaining about how it's so cold all we'll want to do is huddle under mountains of blankets," he agrees. "But you know, that would be a lucrative thing, if you could literally SAVE heat from the summer, to use in the winter."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"I'm not even sure what could be used for that," Ikiko muses. "And what would happen if people saved /too/ much heat?" A thought of snowstorms in Tokyo in July comes to her mind...

She shakes her head. "Maybe it's better this way," she shrugs before taking another bite of her rapid-diminishing donut.

Shiori Sato has posed:
"Hmmm..." Shiori seems to consider this. "Depends on what it was being stored in. Though now that I think about it you just reminded me of something in a game I played. This huge creature lived in this polar region, and it turns out the region was cold because it stored heat in its body and breathed cold air. It wasn't hurting anything until this horrible mist settled, and then it turned hostile. One of the missions you have to go kill it, and these three people fuse with it and try to get it to self-destruct. If you can't kill it within a certain number of rounds, it blows up and destroys the entire region." He shivers. "That would suck too, if someone blew up where the heat was stored."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
Ikiko frowns slightly. "Either all of the heat would be released at once, or it'd be gone for good," she muses. A sudden blast of massive heat, or a permament loss of the heat? "Either way, that /can't/ be good," she shudders.

Shiori Sato has posed:
Shiori nods. "In the game it had a convenient plot effect, but I have my doubts that suddenly releasing that much heat could have anything but an immediate and disastrous effect," he replies. "So yeah, I guess it's better that was can't store heat. Because you know how people are, someone would mess it up and boom."

Ikiko Hisakata has posed:
"Or take too much and leave a place unseasonably cold, or take what little heat the winter has and make it colder, or who knows what else," Ikiko nods solemnly. Messing around with nature that drastically can have severe consequences, after all!

She finishes the last of her donut, then takes a look at the time. "I should probably head home now," she sighs as she stands and picks up her bags. "It was nice seeing you again, Shiori!"

Shiori Sato has posed:
Shiori adds, "'Some things mankind was not meant to tamper with', et cetera." With a chuckle. "Besides, you know people-- extremes one way other the other." Then he nods as Ikiko mentions she needs to get going. "Yeah, it's getting pretty late, and walking home in the dark isn't fun." He smiles. "Be careful on the way home!"
