...Wait, this isn't right.
It's dark. There's nothing here. But it's dark. Not 'can't see' dark, but... black. He can see, just there's nothing here to see. No sound, no lights, nothing around. It's a void, though he can feel a floor under his feet.
This isn't a dream, is it?
But no... it is. Shiori's gotten where he knows the feeling of a dream. And yes, this feels like a dream. But what kind of a dream is this? Should he start walking? Which direction? Does it even matter?
"...So there you are."
That voice. He knew that voice. A woman's voice, low and a little raspy, as if the owner didn't speak all that often. But where was it coming from? It sounded like it was coming from all around him. But he knew who it was, even if he didn't know where it came from. And he spoke her name.
He heard a chuckle to his left, and turned his head in her direction. And as he did, she faded into view. The ninja girl from all his dreams of the past, the one that had appeared in Mamoru's dream. Long black hair pulled back in a ponytail, black clothing with light brown armor, red sash at her waist. "You are improving."
"Improving?" Shiori inquired. "What do you mean? I'm not nearly as good as you are... or should I say were?"
"Either," came the terse reply from the ninja. It wasn't unkind, just clipped. Shiori recognized the attitude-- he was much the same when he was channeling her power. "Not your body. You must first train your mind."
Shiori tilts his head. "I guess that makes sense," he agrees. "Just sucks that I have to depend on you for everything."
Akahana's eyes narrowed. "You don't think you can rely on a woman?"
Instantly Shiori started to shake his head vehemently. "N-no, I didn't say that!" he said quickly. "Besides, aren't I you?"
"You were," she confirmed.
Shiori nodded. There was a moment of silence. "...So... what do we do now?"
There was a sound from Akahana that sounded like a chuckle. "Making contact again will be easier in the future. I know you are confused. I will guide you when you are lost. You need but seek me out."
Shiori was awake before he realized it. One moment he'd been speaking to Akahana. He blinked. And the next thing he knew, he was staring up at his ceiling. His bedroom was light, and he turned his head, squinting without his glasses at the alarm clock-- 6:29, one minute before his alarm would have gone off if it had been on. He was still on school vacation though, so it wasn't.
He sighed, looking back to the ceiling, folding his arms behind his head. So... Akahana finally got in touch with him. Shiori wondered if it was related to Mamoru's dream... did that connect him to Akahana more closely? Or was it always there and he just needed to meet her halfway?
...Why the heck did his past incarnation have to be so darn CUTE?!
Shiori couldn't help but blush...
