Kazuomi was not happy. The vein pulsing slightly on his forehead was a good clue to that. And the trembling lab technician in front of him, clutching a sheaf of papers, was probably why. "...Explain this to me once more," Kazuomi requested.

"W-well sir..." The lab technician tried to get himself together before continuing. "The drain of keeping Ikuto under constantly is beginning to make the machine deteriorate. We've got to turn it off."

Kazuomi exhaled the drawn-in breath in a growl. "What does this mean for our control over him?"

"Oh it's still absolute when the machine is on," the technician replied. "And it can be re-established within moments of powering the device back on. It can be safely powered off and then powered back on without having to worry about breakage. In fact, powering the machine off will increase its lifespan."

"...What about distance?" the Director inquired.

The technician smiled, finally starting to relax. "It's no obstacle, sir. Wherever he is, once the machine is powered on, Ikuto will still fall back under control."

Kazuomi thought a moment. The machine would be hard to replace. Not impossible. But it would take months, and in that time he'd have no control over Ikuto. He'd have little control over him if the machine was turned off... but little was better than none at all. So long as Ikuto came to him when called, that was really the only concern.

But as Kazuomi had drawn in a breath to reply... an alarm went off. The technician fumbled with his papers, dropping some, and retrieved his phone. "What is it?!" he answered, probably a little stronger than he'd intended to. Pause, and his eyes widened in horror. "WHAT?! How long has it been down?"

At that moment, one of the suited enforcers that Easter employed burst into the room. "Forgive me for intruding, Director-san. But Ikuto's gotten loose."

Kazuomi looked to the technician. "...Explain."

The technician's look of fear is back. "The, uh... device went down. Overloaded its power source." That vein appears at Kazuomi's forehead again. "It can be replaced, and then everything will be just like I said, I promise!" He hopes.

After a moment Kazuomi looks to the enforcer. "...Try to get him back if you can. If not..." Here he pauses, and his eyes narrow. A horrible smile pulled ever so gently at the corner of his lips. He stood, and then turned to the window. "...We have the means to call him back if we need him."
