It's a single note, plucked on the string of a violin. It echoes far more than it should. Far further than a violin note should.
A man stands in the center of a deserted park. He wears all black, a feathered ruffle around his long coat. Scruffy blue hair, face hidden by a birdlike visor. A violin is tucked between his chin and his shoulder. His free hand plucks the strings slowly, the air around him humming, shivering with the note. The sound beckons to the hidden heart inside.
And soon the call is answered. From all over, young people begin to heed the call, their eyes blank and glassy. Most are in their nightclothes, though some of the older kids might not have gone to bed yet. They're drawn by the sound.
And once they've gathered, the man in the black coat raises the bow to the violin proper. The intrument glows a sharp, malevolent purple. And then he draws the bow across the strings. A sad melody begins to rise from the instrument. Wisps of darkness begin to surround the young people gathered. And in a few moments, black eggs begin to exit their chests. Glossy, almost chitinous black eggs, each one with a white X across most of its surface.
Each egg mewls plaintively, "Impossible... impossible..."
One by one, as each egg rises, the person it came from falls to the ground, unconscious. Then, as one, the eggs move to surround the man in black. It is clearly his power that holds them in sway, as when they surround him, his body begins to glow with the same dark energies as emanated from the young people when the eggs were taken from them.
Unseen by any, the face that looks out from behind that mask is lifeless, his eyes just as glassy and blank as the young people called by his power.
Far away, Kazuomi sees. The remote camera shows him everything that happens, and he sees the eggs drawn away by Death Rebel's power. And he smiles.
Now that all of that silly free will had been eliminated, this living instrument named 'Ikuto' was much more useful...
