Seishous new transfer student Seijuro Ginga is a little weird, but is an amazingly talented flute player and super-cute, so hes always dodging some gaggle of girls or another. But secretly, Seijuro is Ail, a humanoid from another world, come to Earth in a final desperate gambit to keep together the last few sparks of life in his species. While he interacts with humans during the day, during the night he summons monstrous Cardians to drain the energy of those same humans, so that he can feed it to the Makaiju, a massive alien space tree. Without the energy from the Makaiju, Ail and the last of his species will die. Because of this, Ail has adopted a us-or-them mentality and will do whatever mental rationalization he needs to justify his actions - because hes unwilling to face the consequences to do otherwise.
